really like Ha Jiwon in Hwang Jin-i the series, so will really have to see what they can offer in under 2 hours.

Both of the dresses are beautiful…however, why don’t you see many Koreans wear the han bok, as much as Japanese wear traditional kimono’s. Does it have to do with function??

  3. 3 figbash March 27, 2007 at 6:02 pm

Actually, I’d say that aside from people in some segments in the service industry and a few ritual occassions, hanbok are seen just as frequently as kimono. The functions and meanings are pretty equivalent, and the major occassions on which they’re used (weddings, mostly) are pretty similar. There’s still plenty of hanbok-wearing going on among older people, in the countryside, and in certain occupations (especially ones with “traditional” connotations like tea shop owners, some artists, etc.) And I’d certainly say that a much larger percentage of Koreans own their own hanbok, while most Japanese rent kimono when they wear them for formal occassions like weddings, graduations, etc.

Thanks for the response. I was just wondering because I haven’t seen that many Hanbok. I’ll look around more.

Ha JiWon’s ki-seng is hot. Both actresses are hot but JiWon’s wearing the better outfit.

  6. 6 figbash March 28, 2007 at 4:40 am

Hang out around wedding halls – you’ll see tons of them. Or go to a teahouse.

I loved HJW’s performance in Hwang Jin Yi and IMHO I think Ha Ji Won is a better, much versatil actress than SHK..
Well, I must see the movie Hwang JinYi first and then see the results, becoz I was really satisfied with HJW’s performance in the drama.

  9. 9 lyn March 29, 2007 at 2:26 pm

I think they both look stunning.

  10. 10 MohtMohtjerry April 5, 2007 at 7:39 am

SongHyeKyo is the best one cos HaJiwon’s dress is so hot than Hyekyo

  11. 11 Anna May 1, 2007 at 12:56 pm

Hye Kyo looks like a serioius lady and Ji Won looks like a funny, nice lady… I think both of them looks nice in the Korean Outfits… (I don’t know what’s it call, for sure it’s not a kimono!)

  12. 12 hakkyo May 2, 2007 at 3:22 am

song hye kyo pops it best 4 sure! she is really great wearing han bok dress… ha ji won is pretty too but nothing compare to hye kyo’s face!

  13. 13 Gaek May 3, 2007 at 9:01 pm

    Mauwy,

What are you talking about? Ha Jiwon was awful in “Hwang Jinee.” I don’t think I exaggerate when I say that her performance was embarrassing–both to herself and to the historical Hwang Jinee. She has virtually no acting talent–just like the 99 percent of the young, up-and-coming Korean female actresses. And even if her acting ability was up to par, she was miscast anyways, because she lacks the class and sophistication and certainly the intellectual aura that the historical Hwang possessed. Stick to playing the ditzy strumpet, please.

In fact, I think the saguk industry will go extinct, because there are very few actors/actresses who can pull it off. In particular, the talent pool on the female side is god-awful. Can you imagine any young actresses today who can match a Jeon Inhwa or a Kang Sooyun performance in “Yuhin Cheonha”? Heck, even Hwang Sinhye comes off as a thespian virtuoso when matched against today’s younglings. At least on the male side, you got the guy who did a tolerable job in the Yi Soonsin drama, once the real heavyweights like Yoo Donggeun, Im Dongjin, and Yi Deokhwa pass from the scene.

I am really facinated with the beauty of Song Hye Gyo,
very soft and refeshing, you will linger on and her
beauty exudes even in the pix above, SHK stands out.
JiWon is a beauty in her own righ.

I have not seen both drama and movie, so I can not give comment on who the best is in this particular title Hwang Jini. However, based on the dramas I have watched (I have the chance to watched them in their respective dramas), I
can say Hye Kyo has edged over JiWon.

  15. 15 Gaek May 3, 2007 at 10:28 pm

    Tisyav,

I agree with you that Miss Song is a better actress than Miss Ha, but that’s not saying much.

  16. 17 alyssa May 23, 2007 at 2:33 pm

song hye kyo is the best!!!!!!

  17. 18 emkae May 30, 2007 at 5:16 pm

Both of them looked good with it.
In my opinion..Ha Ji Won looks prettier with it?? Ahh Hye Kyo is also pretty but with that suit… Ha Ji Won Looks more suitable… hmm

  18. 19 jenny June 5, 2007 at 2:16 pm

song hye gyo…..only song hye gyo…fighting…

  19. 20 gea June 5, 2007 at 2:19 pm

of course only song hye gyo, she’s pretty girls..and natural beauty. high talent…

  20. 21 zafrah June 12, 2007 at 3:50 pm

Song Hye Kyo very natural face..i like her….she’s pretty too…

  21. 22 hajiwon June 25, 2007 at 2:30 am

just because someone has a pretty face, it does not mean that they are the better actress. Ha Ji Won definitely has a better acting career than song hye kyo. Ha Ji Won can be cute, funny, and sexy at the same time~but song hye kyo has to work on all those traits; she is just for the cute look. ha jo won completely won the hanbok look, and she has the better edge for the role on hwangjini

  22. 23 hazelrain- July 7, 2007 at 11:21 pm

hajiwon’s better…. but i definitely like song hye kyo better than her xD~ song hye kyo is more suited to u nkow…. fun movies such as full house (even though she looked prettier in my girl and i) (\(^___________________^)/)

  23. 24 wella August 1, 2007 at 12:22 am

song hye kyo ofcourse! i love her!!! she’s so pretty and a great actress too!

  24. 25 Anti-Wrinkle August 8, 2007 at 9:50 am

I personally prefer Song Hye Kyo over Ha Ji Won because I think Ha Ji Won is a poor actress. She may be wearing the prettier hanbok, but she only appears as a cute girl in a pretty dress while Song Hye Kyo appears aloof and mysterious yet regal and beautiful.

I was shocked when I found out Ha Ji Won played this role. She couldn’t even pull off the fight scenes from Damo, how would she emulate the grace needed for dance? Of course, it turns out I was right. She still can’t dance but the editing team did a damn good job of covering it up w/ pretty imagery. I was mostly disappointed to not see any actual dancing, as I am not familiar with this part of Korean culture (I guess that’s what Youtube’s for). Dance is supposed to draw in the audience and captivate them. The itty bitty fragments disappointed me. Anyway, enough of that. You can judge it for yourselves.

Lastly, I’d like to add that EONS AGO, SHK was in this drama called Autumn Love Tale, which started the Korean Wave. It may have been past your generation, but you should realize that she was only in serious roles up to Full House, where she took a refreshing change and a funny role.

I am really excited for this movie, because I feel that it will be a major achievement for her career. SHK FTW!

  25. 26 Gaek August 16, 2007 at 3:44 am

    Anti-Wrinkle,

Ha Jiwon’s performance actually improves as the drama goes on. So my initial assessment of her acting ability (or the lack thereof) has been slightly revised. Nonetheless, I agree with your fundamental view that she was miscast for the role of Hwang Jinee.

  26. 27 Betty Yeo August 16, 2007 at 11:21 pm

Haji won can pull off any type of character thats being thrown to her.So far she is the best of all, C for urself!!!!! She is sexy n elegant n not chubby. She got the height, luv her.

  27. 28 Betty Yeo August 23, 2007 at 11:04 am

Ha ji won is an all rounder, she is sexy and elegant. By look she looks younger than her peers though she is two yrs older. She is classy, younger actors whom she work wif admire n full of praise. She acted as a teen in HWANG JINI, SUPERB!!!!!! no wonder the taiwanese call forever young.Hope you bless with all love and blessing HA JI WON.

  28. 29 ommel0812 September 13, 2007 at 10:19 pm

Song Hye Kyo is such a great actress, Versatile, she can do all roles. She makes us cry in Autumn tale and make us laugh in Full House. She is the best. In the picture she is serious here without make up but still beautiful that’s they called the natural beauty. Ha ji won too much make up.Song Hye Kyo rocks.

  29. 30 wahhda September 26, 2007 at 2:59 pm

m waiting till the movie’s out and see what has Song Hye Kyo got to win over Ha Ji Won.

  30. 31 Cecelia September 29, 2007 at 4:07 pm

Humm..interesting two most acknowledge actress playing leading roles hahas I have nothing against them but Ha Ji Won’s acting skill is SUPERB. Song Hye Kyo is pretty But i don’t really like her acting. And I don’t know if she is the real thing or not everyone got plastic surgery these days!! What can I think?!

  31. 32 Dona October 18, 2007 at 9:05 am

Both women look stunning in han bok but ha ji won’s make up made her look awful.

  32. 33 Oh My October 20, 2007 at 5:26 pm

actually, the term would be “giseng” because “geisha” is for the Japanese, while these are obviously KOREAN actresses portraying a KOREAN figure

  33. 34 mookie October 20, 2007 at 5:54 pm

SHK is prettier face-wise but I was bored to tears with her acting in the movie. In a particular scene when she has decided to choose her destiny…to be a giseng, and she spent some ‘quality’ time with her love….there’s no kiss… then
there was a scene where they were more intimate, but o nonono, the shot was on Miss SHK’s face, blank, wooden, I was guessin she was trying to portray turmoil or the distress of making the life-altering decision…but frankly I only saw Miss SHK’s distaste in having to show her shoulder and she looked so uncomfortable even in easy caresses with her supposing love. I think the actor would rather act to a pretty piece of cardboard.

I have lost ANY glimpse of hope I hold out on her for being a serious actress.

Though I’m not a fan of Miss HJW at least she did a decent job in the tv drama.

  34. 35 Gal October 20, 2007 at 6:02 pm

may i know if who’s song hye kyo’s mother. i wnat to know her name

  35. 36 betty October 24, 2007 at 12:44 am

Like everyone says SHK is wooden stiff. Ha ji won did a good job.She Rocks!!!!!!!!

  36. 37 april85 November 14, 2007 at 9:32 pm

i just watch hwang ji yi drama series. but i dont watch the movie yet.

but i would say, maybe the movie is better. because my 1st impression when i read the summary, i imagined someone who is absolutely not cheerful, funny and cute. but some one who is thoughtful, quiet and mysterious.

but don’t get me wrong. the series are good just like other good korean drama. just that it didn’t reach my expectation coz i was hoping something different and better when i read the summary. something that will make people remember.

  37. 38 starbrite January 8, 2008 at 1:34 pm

I have seen both the movie and the drama series. Both are are pretty in their own way. But in terms of acting, I think HJW fits better in this role…she gets you more into the drama. I love the way she moves and cries, her face and eyes can express many emotions.

Gaek, You need to loose up. People just have different opinion, no need to put others down. The more you try to criticize others, the more you make others dislike SHK…I don’t think you want that.

  38. 39 starbrite January 8, 2008 at 2:03 pm

    april85,

Both movie and drama are good. The movie and drama series are alittle bit different in how they portait Hwang Jini. Have to keep in mind that one is a movie and other one is a series which people have to watch 1 – 24 episodes. In the series the character and stories has to be entertaining at the same time not loosing or over doing it. The movie and series use a historical figurine for us to be entertainment maybe learn something from it..it is not necessary for educational purpose like the Discovery or History Channel.

    SO…
it’s Song Hye Kyo after all. So far, you’re the best!

  40. 41 Lorraine March 29, 2008 at 8:25 pm

People are used to see Song Hye Kyo in modern films. Therefore, I say that Song Hye Kyo’s look doesn’t suit the role as ‘Hwang Jini’. Song Hye Kyo’s indeed gorgeous but so modern-looking for the role.
