Any drama addict will tell you that watching dramas is more than following the storyline – in fact, the best part of any watching drama is learning about the characters and finding ways to relate to them. If you aren’t already hooked to Witch Amusement, starring Han Ga-in and Jae Hee, here’s POPSEOUL!’s take on the characters to get you hooked!
Ma Yoo Hee (Han Ga In) is a charismatic yet an aloof high powered Ad Agency CEO who is quite clueless about dating. In the first two episodes, Ma Yoo Hee goes on dozens of so gae tings, only to get rejected by all of them mostly because of her “unfeminine” characteristics such as beating up her dates or wearing black from head to toe. During her rounds of so gae tings, she gets set up with Chae Mo Ryong (Jae Hee) only to realize later on that he’s not a resident doctor, but an aspiring chef…
Ma Yoo Hee’s character is still in it’s developmental stages and there are some flashbacks that offers more insight about her character as she reminisces about her first love, Joon Ha Sunbae and her rough childhood growing up with her over-controlling father.
Han Ga In is great in her new role as Witch Yoo Hee, but something about the way she speaks bothers me a lot. She sometimes mumbles her words or clenches her teeth while speaking as if she’s annoyed that she has to speak, making it quite awkward. But other than this minor adjustment to her new role, she’s kicking ass.
Chae Mo Ryong (Jae Hee) is a smart SNU med school student who drops out of school to actualize his dreams of becoming a renowned chef. His dad owns a Chinese restaurant and he is portrayed as a gifted yet stubborn cook who can’t hold a job for more than three months. While delivering Chinese food, he gets into an accident with Ma Yoo Hee and eventually becomes her housekeeper because he can’t pay the high damage costs. As the new helper, he cooks, cleans and consults Yoo Hee on how to become a lovable woman.
Chae Mo Ryong is currently dating Jang Sung Mi.
This is the first time I’m seeing Jae Hee in action and I’m quite impressed. He plays the character very naturally, but I think he’s just too thin – he needs more meat on his bones.
Johnny Kruger (Dennis Oh) is a famous French chef from America who’s also Ma Yoo Hee’s old friend. He works at the same restaurant where Jang Sung Mi works and we get to see him do his magic in the kitchen a lot and he looks steaming hot doing it. He doesn’t play a major role, probably because of his language barrier, but he’s going to play an important role setting Moo Ryong and Yoo Hee together.
Dennis Oh is so great to look at when he’s just cooking and smiling, but it’s still painful to watch him speak Korean. I do understand the difficulty of learning the language and I do want to give him credit for his efforts, but when it pulls you away from the story line because you have to decipher what he’s trying to say, it gets really really annoying!
Jang Sung Mi (Jun Hae Bin) is a Restaurant manager and Chae Moo Ryong’s girlfriend, who is excessively kind and loyal to him.
Jun Hae Bin is adjusting to her role quite well, but it’s just hard to perceive her as a submissive girlfriend after seeing her in variety of tv shows going all out there to attract attention. Every time I see her act, I feel like her dark side will surface and seek revenge on Han Ga In – but that’s just my imagination.
Yoo Joon Ha (Kim Jung Hoon) is a doctor and Yoo Hee’s first love. He has a minor role so far, but he’s suppose to be the ambitious boyfriend who left his girlfriend for success, but it looks like he’ll also be competing with Moo Ryong & Johnny for Yoo Hee’s love.
Kim Jung Hoon’s new role resembles Lee Yul from Princess Hours. Ambitious, lonely and aloof yet understandable so nothing new for him here. I think he’s just playing his smart and pretty boy image but if he wants to make a career out of acting, he should think about pursuing a completely different role. How about a playboy or a gangster for your next production?

Why are the secondary guy characters ALWAYS SO MUCH MORE ATTRACTIVE than the lead male role…also…give these boys a sandwich..geez
oh no you didnt just diss my jae hee. =) jk. but i LOVE him. he is the most adorable actor i have ever seen. but i have to admit dennis oh and kim jung hoon are pretty good looking too. i cant wait till this finishes airing in korea so i can watch it online.
would be great to get Kim Jung Hoon to play a cool gangster who is actually a undercover cop! hahahah
I agree with you jade, I adore Jae Hee, but he does need a McDonald’s quarter pounder. My god, he’s skeletal.
HAHA i totally agree with jade. hot non-leading males AND sandwiches.
but jae hee used to be quite filled out right? like in delightful girl choon hyang. is he thin now because he fell sick while filming ‘art of fighting’? oh my poor jae hee.
I love WYH~ currently watching it. I like the supporting casts too. I agrree with Hye Bin`s character, it was really weird seeing her as a “submissive gf” but its just that a more evil role would really suit her. yep, her always dancing in heroine6 is always on my mind its kinda new seeing her act. Haahaa. and as much as I love Dennis, he really has to learn more about the language.
I think the hot hot Kim Jung Hoon is doing a great job playing a villain, a hot villain at that. This show is hilarious and entertaining. Love it.
YooHee is my hero, she can kick major ass! XD
LOL i heart han ga in, she’s really pretty ^^, began to like her ever since super rookie. so far, i’ve only managed to watch one episode on VEOH, and i loved it so far, kinda hilarious lol.
oh btw, dennis looks as yummylicious as the food in the drama lol
im so loving this drama right now!
Jae Hee’s clothes make me think of all the French boys I used to see everyday. The scarf, the thinness, etc…
Makes me nostalgique!
i really like Jae Hee in this series. Dennis Oh and KJH are also good. HGI is really impressed me by her new hair cut. it looks totally different then the others actress.
I can totally see Jung Hoon in a gangster role… the strong, silent type. ^_^
KJH is a bad guy in this drama..love him so much..
but what happen with the ending??? lack of something……
they are really great… Han Ga in, she’s so pretty… i also like her manly attitude… Jae Hee, speechless… he’s so cute… but i think dennis oh is the most handsome of the 3 guys… but unfortunately, he’s not the lead actor… i love the story but the ending… i expected more on the ending but its just an “oh, the end”…
I agree, if the ending shows more of Han ga IN and Jae Hee being together, I’m sure audiences would be more satisfy. The ending is very important since it will be the last scene. So it should grab hold of people. But in this drama, there wasn’t this scene. Everyone seems dissapointed, good story..”ok” ending. If some parts of this drama and the ending is rewrited, Han ga In and Jae Hee more in love with each other, I say this story can beat all the other dramas. But too bad, they screwed it up…
i haven’t finished diz series yet..hopefully d ending won’t be tt bad.
i’m quite obsess with dennis b4 but eversince i watched sassy girl chun-hyang i think now i’m in love with jae hee..looking for more of his new dramas n movies.. =)
still in the middle of watching this drama. Here’s my low down on the actors/actresses
Han Ga In: so pretty but her acting was pretty OKAY. like nothing special.
Jae Hee: i agree, TOO DAMN SKINNY. but he makes me smile everytime. ^^ although he shoulf find some other role to play apart from the good guy
Dennis Oh: Oh OH sexy! in the mature way. <3 but his language barrier fails so therefore the idea of a ‘love triangle’ around yoo hee fails. COMPLETELY
Kim Jung Hoon: wonderfully evil and snide. ^^ what a beautiful badass.
and an extra special mention to the woman that plays sara: THE jennifer coolidge of Korea.
hmm…i just finished watching this whole korea drama …yup i;m pretty slow but i really love the drama alotz….ppl complaint that this show sucks and the story line sucks too but i find it otherwise….han ga in is really beautiful and she has a strong character that is lovable…hm….i’d give this show a thumbs up man !!!
Han Ga In is really pretty. I think I have never seen such a beautiful lady elsewhere. Korea rocks!!! Dennis Oh is so handsome. He could fit into ‘Superman’ role in Hollywood, he got the looks. Jae Hee is hilarious. He has the ‘comedy gene’ within. Witch Amusement may not be the greatest drama I have ever seen but the casts might be one of the best ever.
…….to be the lead actor, duhzz
I loved this drama. It’s really fun! Is that Ga In’s real hair or is that a wig?
hey popseoul!!! (i’m answering to your last sentence in this article)
jung hoon actually played a playboy in a ban-jun drama!!! (hopefully you know what i’m talking about!)
he was so good looking and stuff~~~~ so yea :] he matched that role exactly too!!!
(just for reference –> he starred in it with han ji hye!!)
**** ban-jun dramas –> REALLY short dramas (only like 30 minutes i think???? and they always have surprising twists at the end~)
just finished watching this drama online. i think the story is good, but i wasn’t really satisfied with the ending, oh well.
i think han ga in is so pretty. i also like jae hee, but he really needs to put on a little more weight!
you are Maganda^^
I Love YOu yoo Hee
Han Gan In was exquisite in the series – the acting for her role was good, and she certainly was beautiful and adorable.
It would be difficult for anyone who saw the series not to be attracted to the character Yoo Hee.
The script could have been improved, but nonetheless – the cast made the most of it and a decent series was produced. It’s a shame that I hear it was not well received in Korea – we certainly enjoyed it here in London.
Looking forward to Han Gan In’s next series.
hey who is the caster of “MA RI” the myo rong’s rival in cooking?~
