Kim Ajoong was not always so pretty….

Voted as “best body” by Shape magazine readers, Kim A-joong was not always the beauty that she is now. It is really amazing what a little makeup, hair, weight loss and plastic surgery can do! Looking at the before picture, she has obviously lost some weight since highschool (many Korean girls who through a high-school fat stage, like the frosh fifteen). After losing the weight and gaining confidence, the next step is getting the double folds in the eyes. Getting the eyes done is no big deal – almost every girl goes under the knife to make the eyes bigger. In her case, I think (although I am not an expert) that she also got her eyes widened- the whites of the eyes are more visible. After the eyes is the nose. For Kim Ajoong, it’s very obvious that she got her nose done. For celebs, the minimum nose lift is about 5mm. If you are a regular person, an extra lift of 2-3mm is usually the norm. At the same time, celebs usually have to have cosmetic dentistry. Again, Kim Ajoong looks like she has veneers and her front teeth are larger (and whiter). To straighten teeth quickly, many celebs just get their teeth pulled and re-planted. The flip side of this is that your gums may turn grayish which is not attractive (check out Kim Heesun – she never shows her gums when she smiles). Also, it looks like that she might have gotten an implant in her forehead to make it look rounder. All this work at the cost of millions of won has helped Kim Ajoong be the beauty that she is now.*

  5. 5 oh please April 15, 2008 at 7:58 am

i think korean people in general have the highest sense of aesthetic taste when it comes to beauty. They are also naturally very beautiful and noble-looking. So if you combine that with ultra skilled surgeons who know how to enhance that beauty, you get great results! people all around the world have cosmetic surgery, but they like to hate on koreans out of jealously or plain ignorance.

    • 6 oh please2 May 26, 2009 at 4:17 am

oh please, hate on koreans out of jealousy? why would anyone be jealous of plastic surgery? korean girls are amazingly hideous, just go through a random high school and you would see what im talking about… korean girls Are famous for plastic surgery. its nearly impossible to find a girl who Hasnt gone through some sort of plastic surgery in korea. The only ones im jealous of are the korean plastic surgeons… they must make alot of money

      • 7 agree June 12, 2009 at 7:58 pm

AGREED.without plastic surgery koreans are ugly.while the rest of the world too indulge in plastic surgery, korea has the highest percentage where only 1:1000000 do not go under the knife.very superficial and shallow bunch i must say.

  6. 8 allets17 April 18, 2008 at 12:44 pm

all i can say is, there is no more beautiful in this world more than being a “natural”.

  7. 9 Ms Keno April 20, 2008 at 7:13 am

Dood, that girl was fuuuug before. My bro commented her face is gonna start melting off at 40. You can tell from the pics that she’s had multiple waves of sugeries, because no matter how powerful surgery is, it takes a lot more than 1 time to turn fug into beautiful.

Also, re: Linn, please get off your high horse and face reality — no country has ‘mostly natural’ beauties, and if they do, they are probably fug. I’ve seen some old school European and Australian dramas and yikes, no those people do not say “hearthrob” to me.

Even American stars get widespred surgery,it’s just not as transformational as in Korea. I think that has something to do with the bone structures between Caucasians and Koreans though and how more advanced cosmetic surgery is in east Asia and Korea.

  8. 10 Jonathan Wang April 20, 2008 at 7:44 am

How can you guys say that she is a natural when CLEARLY. She looks fake and obviously got plastic surgery

Like Ms Keno said, we can all determine whether is a FAKE or not. When she reaches 30 or so, and he face starts falling apart. That is, unless she gets BOTOX.

    @ ohplease.

Korean people? Noble-looking? Well then you obviously haven’t been exposed to the world. Why do so many Koreans get “major-transformations” (aka. plastic surgery)? Because in general, most of them were “Too ugly.”

  9. 11 saranghae♥ May 19, 2008 at 3:05 am

The idea of beauty differs as you go from each culture to another, but most cultures have adapted to the westernized or anglo-saxon ideal of beauty. Korea is no different. From an artistic standpoint you have to admit that the transformation is incredible. Kim Ah-joong also has an incredible voice and is talented as a person. From a social and biological standpoint plastic surgery makes it impossible to pick out people with true natural beauty and those with “natural” beauty. Imagine marrying someone like Kim Ah-joong and having children that look odd and living with someone you thought you knew but don’t really know. It’s that sort of deception that scares me in this plastic surgery age that we live in. I have been taught to believe that everyone has beauty in them based on their talent, personality and sometimes outer appearance. You can’t always have it all. I believe Kim Ah-joong still had a cute look to her in her high school days. All in all it is up to the person to decide wether they will have plastic surgery or not but they live in a body that was fabricated and not naturally given. Surgery on the outside never changes the genes you must give to your future children. I think there are more important things to deal with and her change of herself shows her dislike of her blood. Her Mongol blood made her eyes, nose and mouth different and she should embrace that about herself. Why must we as Koreans keep changing if we don’t like ourselves based on what we see on tv? Americans don’t follow that trend. Eventually we will tackle issues like this. For now…Long live Korea!

i agree with you its scare me when its came to issue of marry with this plastic surgery people and i was wonedr what will happened to the child its kinda weirdo. but i am totally agree with you,ms keno n jonathan wang.sometimes how powerful the surgery is you doesnt know the effect of it,there on cases in my country(brunei)she was young about 19 yrs old, well i know this person, she already pretty but bcoz didnt satisfied of her beauty, she take plastic surgery but ih ner hometown she take operation to other country when 2 months of it she died bcoz of the effect it,its scare me,sometimes people desperate to be pretty just like kim ah joong,no offence ok..this just my view, btw thsi issue is very famous heheheehehe…..

At first glance it looks like a mandible reduction, malar reduction (zygomatic arch cheekbone), nose job, and epicanthal fold surgery. She looks great. Many Asians have wider and flatter cheekbones and bigger mandibles. I don’t believe they get plastic surgery because they’ve “adopted a Western Standard of Beauty”. The features they value are features that any culture around the world would find more attractive. Europeans simply have them more commonly, possibly due to a period in human history where they went through greater sexual selection for attractiveness than other racial groups. It’s true that people have different preferences, but the differences are usually for superficial traits like eye hair and skin color, and not as varied for bone structure. When people rate the physical attractiveness of anyone, they mostly agree. Most people find small round forward cheekbones, small mandibles, small noses, and big eyes with more of the whites showing more attractive in women. She still looks asian, just better.

    • 15 kej May 15, 2009 at 5:43 am

what are your assertions that “the features they value are features that any culture around the world would find more attractive” based on???? it seems more likely to me that countries like Korea have in recent times adopted a western standard of beauty. The evidence supporting this is that the ideal of beauty in these countries has changed considerably following the onset of ‘Western’ ideas – for example, small lips were once considered beautiful whereas nowadays people pay good money for collagen lip injections, undoubtedly an influence from the west; similarly, women with double chins were thought of as the ideal while today this is not the case. There are countless such examples to demonstrate that the standard of beauty changes between periods in history and varies between cultures.

Moreover your theory that “Europeans simply have them more commonly, possibly due to a period in human history where they went through greater sexual selection for attractiveness than other racial groups” is simply rubbish. it has no evidence going for it at all.

You also say that people mostly agree on standards of beauty. But this is based on surveys questioning those who are living today and in an international society where people are constantly exposed to aesthetic pressure (images, adverts, films, culture) from the west. Perhaps if you could go back in time with a clipboard and pen, you would get a very different response to questions about features of attractiveness.

Moreover your theory that “Europeans simply have them more commonly, possibly due to a period in human history where they went through greater sexual selection for attractiveness than other racial groups” is simply rubbish. it has no evidence going for it at all.

I love kim ah joong as a singer.. after i watched her movie 200 pounds beauty, i hurriedly check her song maria. but at first glance at her face, i know she had undergone plastic surgery.. and after i discovered myself as sucker for korean movies (esp the romantic ones) i found out that mostly koreans are fanatic of plastic surgeries!! (i saw other korean actresses, i thought maybe their mother or father maybe a foreigner coz they dont like like real koreans,, to beautiful and perfect) some korean faces is not noticeable that they had undergone surgery but some are pretty obvious..

  13. 18 yamyam162002 June 19, 2008 at 11:37 am

i forgot her name, but that actress in lovers in paris has many different facial transformations from her past movies to her recent ones (even tv series)

  14. 19 symmetry August 7, 2008 at 6:44 am

come one guys, don’t tell me that this facts shock you!? The most actor/actress and singer (and it doesnt matter from which country) are under plastic surgency!! so who cares, whether they are under plastic surgency or not. They live from entertainment and people like to watch them.
I like the movie and her song :)

  17. 22 Girl October 9, 2008 at 2:17 am

I don’t see a problem with plastic surgery, but I wouldn’t actually wouldn’t have plastic surgery, but if it does help boost someone’s confidence just a little why shouldn’t they?
& Song Hye Gyo is a natural beauty – in my opinion :]

    her face is fake!

  20. 25 Unknowntobeknown November 10, 2008 at 1:39 am

Hey guys just because she has done surgery doesn’t mean that we should be mean or anything like that many actor and actresses do surgery nowadays . She still cute and pretty lol and her songs are really gr8 :)

  21. 26 XVII November 10, 2008 at 12:48 pm

Haha, my friend asked me yesterday if all koreans have surgery and crap,

    and I was like, “Hmm maybe, I don’t know….why?”

and then she said that she’d seen all these korean moms and they’re like quite pretty while on the other hand, their kids are really ugly.

(The kids she saw were like teens 17 etc and also some 10~15 year olds…)

  22. 27 Dentist November 19, 2008 at 10:57 pm

Was absolutely blown away by Kim Ah Joongs beauty in the movie and looked for a few pics of her and came across this site. Didn’t realise she had plastic surgery but knew she had porcelain veneers straight away as i am a dentist.

I was in Korea last year for three months and commented to my cousin that most Korean girls are pretty fugly as students, but seem to get much better when they hit their later teen years. Even my cousin is now far more attractive now than when she was 15.

    http://kxnz.blogspot.com/2007/09/natural-but-ugly-or-pretty-but.html
This shows KAJ in her later teen years – she prob already had her eyes done but she is starting to resemble her current form, so I think she has a few procedures to enhance her beauty, not a complete makeover. No amount of PS will make a dog into a princess.

Im a Korean male. I have all the RARE idealised features like fair skin tone, high nose bridge and sharp straight nose, high cheekbones, angled jaw, and nicely shaped eyes with double fold- all due to my mothers genes. Fact is, most Koreans are not good looking and these features are RARE as a whole. Sure one might have a few features but RARELY all, and so the good looking ones are treated like royalty. I know how lucky I am, Ive grown up my whole life being placed on a pedestal because of my looks. Get constant comments on how I look princely, like an actor, must be popular with girls etc etc. I get preferential treatment in daily life, and every single girlfriends parents have loved me (we all know how judgemental Korean parents can be). With the bonus of my job and coming from a prestigous family, Im constantly getting introductions to the daughters of rich and prestigious families.

Girls are obsessed with plastic surgery in Korea because they know how big an impact it will make on their popularity, their chances of landing a 3-key husband. Korean girls display a veneer of innocence, but they are perhaps the sharpest of any female race I’ve come across.

Plastic surgery does not only represent a confidence factor in Korea, it carries the hopes of a better life, gaining BACK through marriage, things that are so powerful to the psyche of Koreans that Westerners dont often consider.

    • 28 uhhuh August 1, 2009 at 12:34 pm

You’re a dentist, huh? Interesting.. in order to have gained that degree in education, wouldn’t you know how to write? Your spelling/grammar usage suggests you to be a fraud in drawing your conclusions.

Also.. you’re Korean? As am I.. odd that someone doesn’t have enough pride in their country. Shame on you.

  23. 30 An December 17, 2008 at 5:41 am

Eh? I saw a picture of her when she was 20 and she had lighter hair and her face was slightly smaller so i KNOW for sure that she didn’t do plastic surgery. I mean, seriously..since when is teeth whitening plastic surgery?? Pfft If that’s so then that means i’ve done plastic surgery too then *eyeball rolls* Further, i read on another website that that picture isn’t her.

  24. 31 fligs December 17, 2008 at 3:52 pm

Lol at this thread. and at the news – how ironic. :P

  25. 33 Lildestiny December 21, 2008 at 3:26 pm

so that’s what had been bothering me when i watched 200 pounds.
she seem to be a bit too perfect, making it doesn’t look right and not natural at all.

  26. 34 aisuzieya December 21, 2008 at 6:40 pm

but its worth it, isnt it? look at where she stands in the industry now? thanks to plastic surgery.the nose job is pretty obvious. it looks fake. but she is one pretty face.

  27. 35 SharnyaYoshihara December 22, 2008 at 7:56 am

Wow I see why she took the role in 200 pounds.I think does look way better now.But DAMN! how much did all that sur. cost her?

  28. 36 hmm December 22, 2008 at 10:33 am

lols dentist..ur comment made me laughed..insightful, yet somewhat narcissistic? i hope u marry off someone who is less unfortunate than you… Go spread some hope to girls without your RARE features so her kids can have an easier life

  29. 37 Eva December 22, 2008 at 11:58 am

wow she so lucky she can change from ugly to beautiful.but for me i dont want to change what god has given to me.i will accept it with a happiness.. :)

it’s all about money and you can do anything you like, you can even buy the world ^^,
if you didnt like it, it’s your problem

  32. 40 popop January 2, 2009 at 3:18 am

Why can’t people just accept their looks and get on with life?
The celebrities are making people feel as if they need to look pretty to succeed in life. It’s true that if you’re prettier you get more benefits, but people should be encouraged to accept themselves, not being put down for it.

  33. 41 pr4mnce January 30, 2009 at 9:27 am

OMG!! i so didnt see this coming!
i was searching up korean celebrities and when i saw kim ajoong i was like :O
this was soo unexpected and i actually believed that she was a natural beauty! -__-
*sigh w/e…now its normal for celebrities to get plastic surgery…

  34. 42 uberathlete February 9, 2009 at 2:26 pm

Hmm … interesting. There were times when my dad would mention that Koreans these days seem to look better in terms of facial features than they did before. Sometimes, my family discusses the different physical characteristics of certain nationalities and we have noticed that Korean beauty seems to have “developed” over the years. I don’t know how much of this impression is from seeing more Koreans who have gone under the knife or because the general group has physically evolved under various natural circumstances. It’s probably both, but I’ve certainly developed some suspicions and would now tend to take things with a grain of salt.

  35. 43 apriliak3 February 20, 2009 at 9:35 am

Oh my gosh I was just wondering if she did or didn’t do the plastic surgery, and now I’m all upset ’cause I got the answer already :’[ ’cause I taught she was a ‘natural beauty’ you know..

  36. 44 tifanii February 23, 2009 at 11:05 pm

    actually,
there is something wrong with plastic surgery

    you see, humankind specifically men
are to find good genes to ensure the next generation.
but the plastic surgery craze is destroying that goal.

you may marry this hot perfect girl and get bad looking kids. it’s because the woman’s genes were really bad to start with. well, that’s the downside of plastic surgery. (atleast one)

i read it from a book though.
that is why men wants good looking girls.
it’s actually for the next generation. xD

oh and i read someone commented “i wish i was a korean”
why hate your race? you haven’t seen every single korean anyway. they all dont look like celebrities you know. havent you notice the older women in korean dramas? i presume plastic surgery wasnt a craze yet when they were younger, that’s why even if you make them any younger they wouldnt look good like the celebrities nowadays.

before i was wondering how come all korean celebrities really look dashing, but the older ones doesnt really look good at all. (i mean of course they’re old, but still, even if they’re old you can tell whether they used to look as dashing as most korean celebrities now)

beauty isn’t supposed to be racy. i believe every race has a beauty of their own. it’s not like “oh korean. she must be gorgeous because koreans are all gorgeous” lol

  37. 45 sevnrock March 13, 2009 at 12:53 am

tifanii – that’s my biggest fear when going to korea. girl’s will be so deceiving! haha – i’m scared one day i’ll find the perfect gem and later on find out she had major cosmetic surgery when our children are butt-faced. and, in truth, i do find the older generation to be “physically” unappealing so this surgery boom has to be really recent (cost of today’s technology was probably too expensive back then).

this post really was a big shock to me as I had JUST watched 200 lbs for the first time and had ZERO clue that she has had surgery done (except the eyes which evverrryyy korean does).

  38. 46 lynmen March 13, 2009 at 1:10 am

it’s true. No matter how you look at it—- genetically it will show when she has kids. It’s amazing what technology can do to boost one’s image. Whatever works—

  39. 47 choonhee March 19, 2009 at 2:14 pm

*sigh* isn’t there anyone in Korea’s entertainment industry that HASN’T gone under the knife??

  40. 48 pho May 23, 2009 at 11:50 am

Asians especially koreans and chinese get so much plastic surgery done to themselves…Dont they have any self respect. God made them look the way they did, sure theyre not attractive even with all makeup they put on and the westernizing features they pay for, but thats the way they were born! Asians need to stop trying look less asian and stop getting surgeries to make themselves look like caucasian people….Have some self respect!!!

    • 49 crazykpop May 23, 2009 at 12:47 pm

you are right i mean why they have to change it,god gave us the perfect beauty, and u change it, that mean this person is didnt appreciate what god gave to us,and didnt grateful for it,however i am grateful for evrything, this is the problem every people have their own right for the opinion, the problem is about the plastic surgery,of course bcoz of this technology things, u can transform from ugly to beauty but is it will long last forever?will u can paid anything for beauty especially celebs, i was afraid what going to happen for next generation when she marry.its so creepy. i am feel sorry for her kid.

i mean they are desperate to be more perfect and beautiful but they didnt know what will be the effect of this thing?

this issue seem to be very glamour and i respect all people view and i totally agree with u all ^___________^

  41. 50 mysterygurl May 23, 2009 at 12:09 pm

now i have my answer ,before i was asking to myself while i was watching her film im not so sure is that 200 pounds if im not wrong?is she got plastic surgery that was pop in my mind because the way she act she kind like she naturally, the first thing i get attention is her face,is kinda so weird and unreal.no wander she has plastic surgery for me that not natural beauty.

  42. 51 Deej ♥s Kim Bum May 23, 2009 at 1:10 pm

Do not judge a book by its fake cover.

You have watched 200 lbs. Beauty right?

Remember what Kang, Hanna said before she had the surgery?

“She wants to have Plastic Surgery in order to start a life.”

I believe that it is also the reason why Kim Ah-joong had plastic surgery.

Please don’t be to hard on Kim Ah-joong and don’t judge her just because she had Plastic Surgery.

God made us the way he wanted us to be but I guess, there is nothing bad in dreaming to become beautiful. It might be a mistake but God surely would understand. He wants us to be all happy.

To Kim Ah-joong, no matter how ugly you are before, I wil always believe in your talent. Fighting!!!

  43. 52 Nor May 27, 2009 at 6:45 am

Need to know who is Kim Ah Joong’s real
    life boyfriend/hubby? Seems so difficult
to get any info abt her private life.

One thing stands about her is her voice,
fantastic, as in the story without looking
at her fat self, her voice is really
captivating, and her talent in acting is
    fantastic.

As for her plastic surgery, what else is
new in the entertainment industry? Hopefully,
she does not turn into what Michael Jackson
    did to himself.

All the best in life Kim Ah Joong,
    I salute you.

  44. 53 DeeDee May 31, 2009 at 2:05 pm

I don’t see what the big deal is If Kim got plastic surgery…so what? Look at MJ and Pamela Anderson, Lil Kim, that strange behind cat/woman who lives in NY ..she actually looks like a freakin’ cat….
If this enhances Kim’s career then go for it..but please don’t go overboard’

I read somewhere that she really did have PS for her role in 200lb of Beauty..Is that true?

  45. 54 jhaz June 10, 2009 at 10:35 pm

guys yesterday and most of the last years i tought all koreans are getting plastic surgery to be pretty.. but i found out that some of the pictures was fake, like lee min ho the picture was fake he only visited those surgeons so what ?.. it doesnt mean he took a surgery..
be a good observer before saying foul words..

  48. 57 Jennifer June 17, 2009 at 2:01 am

    she is 100% plastic.
    she got mulitple eyelid surgeries
    she got mulitple noes surgeries
    she got nose bridge implant
    she got chin implant
she got jaw shaving which is painful procedure
    she got forehead implant
she got cheek implant to be place at a new location to narrow her face.
she got some fat taken out below her cheekbones. This is done through the inside of the cheeks and is painful procedure.
She have other proceure done too besides the ones I mentioned above.

This is not anything unusal to koreans. Koreans love plastic surgeries. Parents give plastic surgeries as a high school graduation gift. This is done because of competition for jobs and chance for a mate. KOreans all live in a very plastic society. s. korean president and wife also got eyelid surgeries.
