Honey Lee sweetens Miss Universe pageant

Finally! Korea has a worthy contestant for Miss Universe! The gorgeous  Honey Lee (24) looks more Japanese than Korean with her cute, sexy image, but there is no denying that she is a total stunner! Although she is not a traditional Korean beauty with pale translucent skin and delicate features (think Song Hyegyo or Lee Youngae), she represents the best of what Korea has to offer- taking advantage all the excellent resources of the domestic beauty industry – plastic surgery to enhance her already gorgeous features (you can see where the nose job starts- look between the eyes), skincare, and perfect hair & makeup. But besides all of that, don’t you just love the name?*

Honey Lee is currently in Mexico for the pageant.

Why are there random filipino people trying to boast about the filipina candidate when this article is about honey…
i think filipina only won photogenic award because of the votes from the phillipines…

  2. 2 proud to be a Filipina May 30, 2007 at 1:40 am

Once and for all, Miss Japan won because she was the best in catwalk, posing and stage presence. It’s not all about prety faces anymore. it’s about being a SUPERMODEL. I was rooting for Philippines, but then when I saw the Preliminaries 2 days ago I knew Japan will take the crown. Look at the videos of the prelims and the pageant, She stood up, her catwalk was just so unique and the best. So sorry, let’s all learn from this. not prety face or intellect but supermodel atitude and confidence.

    Honey Lee was terrific!!!!

Not only for her beauty but her answer was the best and most original. (the translator messed up big time)
But all the contestants answers were just warm.
    But her words was sincere.

Please, dont say she looks like this and that… she is just a beautiful korean Girl!!!!

  4. 4 Rudá May 30, 2007 at 4:13 am

Parabéns [congratulations in Portuguese], South Korea!!! I’m Brazilian, but did think that you were number 1!

Honey Lee is very very beautiful!

    In Portuguese:

Pense numa gata! Honey é só o filé!
Bonita, simpática e – perdoe-me, mas não posso me conter – MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUITO BOA! E com aqueles olhinhos puxados… Meus hormônios ficam à beira de uma MEGA EXPLOSÃO!!!

Honey Lee is very very beautiful girl, really!

  5. 5 jane =] May 30, 2007 at 5:29 am

i think the translator really did mess it up..and i think its very kind and warm that all these individuals from different countries acknowledge that honey lee was (and is) beautiful.

  6. 6 migukin May 30, 2007 at 6:59 am

As an American that speaks Korean, I thought that the translator lost the competition for Honey. Instead of conveying her desire for humanitarian service, she talked of being a missionary. The English speaking judges took a religious tone to that, and they always mark down for that. If it was conveyed as she intended, she would have won.

  7. 7 luminality May 30, 2007 at 8:29 am

i completely agree with migukin. honey talked about how she wanted a wallet that never dried up so that she could always keep on helping others but the translator said she wanted a wallet that never dried up skipping the most important part of the phrase. ah well, even for miss japan, because even though she won, her answer was like 20 seconds long in japanese but the translator translated it into a 5 second phrase. i’m sure all the answers by the finalists sounded much better in their own language. although i have to admit that brazil answered her question very well.

  8. 8 okok May 30, 2007 at 9:56 am

    =O=

    this isnt surprising,,
1 out of 10 koreans have had plastic surgeries.
even their president has got one (on his eyes).

  9. 9 popseoul May 30, 2007 at 10:02 am

9999- the Korean media is making the same comparison….there is really nothing you can do.

  10. 10 christianpete May 30, 2007 at 12:34 pm

migulkim, I disagree with you. The translator did not properly translate Honey’s answer, and made it seem she desired more money for the sake of having more money. She actually said she wished for a wallet that never ran out of money in order to help others thru missionary work. This is a legitimate answer, one that coveys humanitarian compassion. Most missionary work do include building housing, digging wells, feeding the hungry, etc. not just proselytizing.

So its hard for me to imagine the judges penalizing Honey for a mistranslated answer, that also was misinterpreted by most english speakers as being materialistic rather than religious. Also, what evidence do you have that english speaking judges deduct points for answers with a “religious tone”? If that is true then thats anti-religious bigotry.

  11. 11 dfksdtyiyuouioiup May 30, 2007 at 1:03 pm

to all those that blame honeys final question:

honey had the perfect question and blew it!

she could have answered to have the power to heal ppl or something like that, but no she asked for money! why would someone ask for a wallet that never ran out???

    wtf

  12. 12 mina May 30, 2007 at 1:24 pm

actually..that before picture is not pre-plastic surgery. it is pre-makeup. that was taken at the airport just before she got into the plane to go to mexico. i’m pretty sure she DID NOT GET PLASTIC SURGERY because she has no ssangapul (without her makeup). It is the illusion of makeup!

  13. 13 Peter May 30, 2007 at 1:31 pm

    I agree with dfksdtyiyuouioiup.
It was the easiest of the 5 questions.
The simple answer is “My superpower would be to cure all the diseases in the world so that everyone could live a long and happy life with those they love”. Done. Hand her the title.

What was this money and never ending wallet crap?

  14. 14 christianpete May 30, 2007 at 4:12 pm

people keep saying Honey should have said this or she should’ve said that. She gave a good answer considering she had no time to prepare for it, unlike many of you, who had 10 or 20 minutes to come up with your own “better” answer! you also didn’t have added pressure of the whole world staring at you…. And the other contestant’s answers were oh so brillant, yea right!

  15. 15 emkae May 30, 2007 at 4:44 pm

yay… miss korea won the third place,, I think it’s a good place anywayss..

  16. 16 Dawn of the dead May 30, 2007 at 4:46 pm

Mr. saejung, i am a filipino, we’re not bragging our contestant to you, but to Mr. Tom who insulted our country and the filipino women.

  17. 17 westcoast May 31, 2007 at 12:16 am

To the topic starter….plastic surgery my ass. Someone is trying too hard in trying to find plastic body parts in order to feel special. It’s called make up smart ass.

  18. 18 Gaek May 31, 2007 at 12:39 am

Regarding the issue of whether Miss Lee is a plastic beauty or not, in Popseoul’s defense, check out the following link:

    http://tong.nate.com/ice4b1/24179104

I think the link vindicates Popseoul.

  19. 19 Gaek May 31, 2007 at 12:41 am

And I still say Miss Lee ain’t that attractive, and she certainly doesn’t look Korean.

Miss Kazakhstan, on the other hand, is far more attractive, and she actually looks Asiatic–unlike Miss Korea or Miss Japan.

  20. 20 sexychikita May 31, 2007 at 1:41 am

to TOM- you’re so bad!..you have no right to criticize other races..just beacause your a white man,ha?..to say it in Filipino,”ANG KAPAL NG MUKHA MO!”..i hate people who discriminate Filipinos..Gabriela silang, proud to be a filipina, dawn of the dead are all right!!we,Filipinos, are intelligent people,handworking,understanding,god-fearing,polite,generous,patient,industrious,hospitable,risk-taker and most of all,we’re all beautiful and we have this natural charisma!don’t you evr criticize asians, how dare you!!!
the only reason why lots of Filipinos are working abroad is beacuse to work and to give their families a better life and provide them what they need,,they sacrifice a lot for their loved ones though it’s hard to be away from home..
Filipinos don’t do dirty jobs abroad,it’s just that some of them have no choice..i’ve watched several documentaries about how filipino women face their miserable lives abroad because they did go to that country hoping they can get a good job,but there are some bad people that fool them and just get their money..do you it’s fair?..though there are most of them who are lucky to have a successful lives abroad, who married a kind man who loves them for who and what they are, there are some who are still sacrificing just to have a living..and that’s what good about us,we can sacrifice just for our families..Filipino caretakers, take for example, they do take care of white and black old people, even they don’t know them, the’t traet them with kindness and care like if they are their kids..isn’t that a shame to americans?..i’m not generalizing at all,but look, you have you parents..they raised you up,they took care of you all their lives..and suddenly, when they grew old..you bring them to institutions for old people?..is that the right thing to return them all the things that they have done to you>,,if it were not for caring and patient caregivers,nurses,OFW..what is the life of other people in many countries?..would they still feel the care and love of a child if they were left behind?..it’s a shame to you, tom!!
and to tell you,all Filipinos are smart..we are all petient, hand working,studious..we don’t give up easily if their are problems, trials that come our way..those will not be ahindrance for us to work hard and study hard in order for us to reach our dreams..most of the youth in provinces and mountain areas in our country do take a long long long jorney of walk with their bare feet just to attend their classes..they sacrifice a lot, they resist the heat of the sunlight though it burns their skins..they do walk kilometers just to go to schhol eventhough they have no coins in their pockets, though they haven’t eaten their meals yet..Do you see the sacrifice,huh?..
we are naturally beautiful..with out morena skins, beautiful faces, and nice curved bodies..our miss philippines is very beautiful, just perfect for a beauty queen..and to tell you guys, she’s a suma cum laude in the university of the philippines with a degree in law..when my sister told me that,OMG..she’s got all of it to be a beauty queen!!as in,UP is like the harvard university in the philippines..and to graduate with flying colors is such a great honor for you to have!!!she has it all..beauty,brain,talent and kindness..

now, tell us..is that what you think of us,poor dirty slaves of white americans?..you should see it for yourself,go here and see who and what filipinos really are!i’m tellng you,you will be ashamed of what you have said!

  21. 21 sexychikita May 31, 2007 at 1:47 am

i do believe she had her nose done, thogh it’s not really obvious..like as what popseoul always says,it’s just a matter of millimeters away to see the difference..but i don’t think she had a surgery in her eyes,i’ve seen the pictures way back before the pageant..and they are all the same..it’s because of the make-up,the eye shadow effect why her eyes look bigger..you know the power of make up!!haha!she’s pretty..it’s just unfortunate that she had her nose done,it’s nice naman before..

  22. 22 tina May 31, 2007 at 12:42 pm

don’t think she had plastic surgery. they don’t allow those major changers to the pageant for your information.

i think her real name is honey. not translated.

i am a white American living in Seoul and everyone knows her as ‘honey’ an written and sound like ‘honey’ in korean. don’t think it was porn name but a cutie name.

Both jap and kor ladies are deserving winners and back off europeans, they r coming. :-)

  23. 23 jane =] June 1, 2007 at 3:48 am

tina- actually her name is lee ha nee which is not “honey” they just made her name that way, it is “translated” i guess. its in the KOREAN newspapers and in korean its pronounced ee hA nee.

  24. 24 Pete June 1, 2007 at 4:08 pm

What kind of “stupidest” comment is that you say about “She looks more Japanese than Korean”…?? If She looks more Japanese, than what does Riyo Mori looks like….? A hideous Martian…? You have such a ignorant, unprecedented, stupid, inaccurate, inconsiderate, and biased stereotype about Koreans. I cannot believe that you have posted this disgustingly stupid comments on a public website…and I am sure you are not even an Asian, because any asians who see Honey Lee will recognize her features as a Korean woman…not a Japanese. I hope your disgusting ignorance will not get you into trouble anytime in future!!!

  25. 25 Lola June 1, 2007 at 6:34 pm

HONEY LEE did NOT have a plastic surjery!!!! The photo saying before, is actually the day of her flight to Maxico!!!
SO the photo has to be said as !!!!!!
No plastic surgery on Honey LEE for sure!! :)

please do not make bad rumors about her..

  26. 26 Ricky June 2, 2007 at 12:39 am

Miss Korea indeed offered what the best of Korea can be..
She’s so gorgeus, at any angle.. maybe a goddess in disguise..^_^
I just wished that she won the miss universe title..
    Hope to meet her soon!!..

    Go Miss Korea!!

  27. 27 Ricky June 2, 2007 at 12:44 am

Her face did not change a lot at all..
    even before the surgeries..
She’s still as lovely as she was now..

Her eyes for me may have been her best asset..
the other parts of her may have only been a “plus” for her..
but still even though she did not done some surgery, She still remains, not just an ordinary beauty, but an extraordinary one.. that rises above the rest.. ^_^

    Again, GO MISS HONEY LEE!!

  28. 28 jose June 2, 2007 at 9:51 am

she’s so hot. rarrrrrrrr. maybe she’ll become one of those drama actress. i’d totally watch it, it would be my guilty pleasure.

  29. 29 shin bi June 2, 2007 at 12:13 pm

im a filipina-korean but ha nee lee was the hottest and the most popular contender– not only because she’s beautiful but because she’s equally intelligent and talented … whatever her answer was, we should be proud of her.. she represented Korea in every way she could… and like us, i know everybody else in whole wide world really looked forward for her to win the title… all asians were strong contenders but i really liked her to win.. Filipina beauty is really very popular but for me, and i think its about time also for Korean beauty to shine…

Mabuhay ang mga Filipina… and Mabuhay ang mga Koreana (^_____^)

    http://photoimg.enjoyjapan.naver.com/view/enjoybbs/viewphoto/pstar/219000/20061222116677752481184800.jpg

Obviously, she had her nose and eyes done. I assumed she even made her dimples bigger and added one in the right side of her cheek.

But who cares? She’s beautiful now, and will be beautiful always and forever after the surgery. We just need to get over it now jealous people.

Congrats for making it to the top 5! and Congrats for a well done surgery as well!

  31. 31 3476876 June 3, 2007 at 1:16 am

    oh please people,,,,
just because you’re jealous doesn’t mean you have to insult her….
everyone knows Koreans are the prettier than japanese’

  32. 32 jose June 3, 2007 at 12:06 pm

maybe the eyes, but the nose definitely looks the same to me. and the eyes could also be a result of her loosing a lot of weight. in any case, if he did stuff, i have to applead the doctor who did it because she looks great.

  33. 33 sexychikita June 3, 2007 at 4:12 pm

she definitely looks like a korean!..come on people..korean girls have bigger eyes having no eyelids (in short, chinita) that japanese..koreans are more beautiful creatures than japanese..i’m not criticizing at all,but that’s what i observe..take a look at song hye gyo, park han byul, song ji hyo,kim tae hee and jun ji hyun, they are the most gorgeous and prettiest korean stars i’ve seen so far..:)

  37. 37 jose June 6, 2007 at 9:24 am

i think we all want that, well at least most of her fans, but i doubt we are getting them

  38. 38 derek88 June 6, 2007 at 1:05 pm

does she have an official blog?

  39. 39 jose June 7, 2007 at 12:01 am

i heard she does, i just dont know what it is

  40. 40 marsman June 9, 2007 at 9:43 am

I don’t think the Western ideal of beauty is the best. It’s all in the mind. If you say (for example) Nicole Kidman is ugly and a bunch of people around you say she’s ugly, she’ll be ugly!

Koreans need to get their pride back in their own natural looks and get the media off their backs!

  41. 41 julie June 11, 2007 at 4:20 am

she didn’t get her eyes done. look @ her video on missuniverse.com. i think her makeup artist uses tape or eye glue. i know this because i do makeup myself and i’m korean. i know the issue w/ koreans and eyes. she didn’t get her eyes done, but she did get her boob done (from looking at her Miss Korea 2006 photos). i still think she’s hot!

  42. 42 Gerald Anderson June 11, 2007 at 10:10 pm

Man,undoubtly this year’s ms.korea contender was the hottest whether she did the surgery or not but i think she’s not that intellegent based on her answer to the last question i could say that, that was not the answer the judges were looking for neither is ms. riyo’s answer. Their answers were both not that convincing. And even if the translator did’nt messed up, i think she will still not take the crown. But anyways i still like her, i think she has a very awesome personality..hope i can have more updates about her. By the way I am a Fil-Am who was captivated by her charisma…but i’d rather dig gals with intellect, she could have been more hotter if she had it?..

  43. 43 smiley June 14, 2007 at 12:54 am

to tell u the truth..she hasn’t done any plastic surgery..how would i know?? of course she’s my cousin (2nd degree)..thats all her natural look except that make up made it better..the eyes look bigger with the eyeliner on top of the eyelid..and the nose is more defined with some brush on the nosebridge!!pls stop bashing her..i know that the person who started this is only jealous..poor you starting an idea like that..at least u should start to accept that she really is a beauty!! stop or you will end up in court!

  44. 44 cute June 15, 2007 at 8:26 am

    ewwwwwwwww
she looks sooooo ugly……….i bet she got a million surgerys………ugh
korea should have a pagent for natural beauty
    not some plastic surgery pagent

  45. 45 giddygirl108 June 15, 2007 at 8:27 am

It’s true that she probably got plastic surgery…but think about it…which of the contestants who participate in the Miss Universe pageant hasn’t had any plastic surgery? I once read an article a few years back about the costs of plastic surgery and what the most popular physical features were worked on. They based this on the contestants from South America.

So yeah…I understand if you have something against plastic surgery. But don’t just single her out.

  46. 46 Gerald Anderson June 16, 2007 at 10:51 pm

Hey smiley, if you’re truly honey’s cousin, kindly send my regards to her. The crown couldn’t handle her awesome beauty that’s why she didn’t win. hahaha Anyways Kudos to her make-up artist she made honey more beautiful and hotter. Gosh I couldn’t take my eyes of her. To tell you the truth our candidates here in the Philippines don’t have to do plastic surgery to be beautiful, for us the more natural, the more beautiful. It’s against our principles to let our candidates do something on their face just to earn something. I really dig girls with natural beauty, charisma and intellegence. Congrats to all the the candidates ,you represented your country with pride and honor and that’s not a simple thing to do. And to Miss Honey, I really like your dimples,I like your eyes too but only with make-up though. Anyways even if they say your beauty is not natural, I know that your kindness is genuine and that’s what matter most more than the natural beauty a woman has.

  47. 47 starry June 17, 2007 at 5:18 pm

The before photo you have is actually a photo of her departure at the interview the day she was leaving for Mexico for the Miss Universe contest. She is at Incheon airport before her departure.

  48. 48 tini June 17, 2007 at 7:44 pm

    wah i didn’t know she’s really gorgeous w/ or w/o surgery

  49. 49 Roger that June 20, 2007 at 2:37 pm

DANG!!!!!!!!!! EVEN HER HAIR IS FAKE!

  50. 50 Matt June 22, 2007 at 5:08 pm

Roger that, you are a douchebag
why are u assuming shit? wheres the proof that she had surgery??…through before and after pictures, pshew gimme a break?? and wow fake hair…thats so f-ing radical and unnatural, she should definitly get disqualified for that….Seriosuly are u some jealous SOB thats sad ur country didn’t make the top 15 or somethin..get a life
