In Korea, the third Monday of May is Adult Day, so yesterday many 1987ers celebrated their rite of passage. This practice might seem odd to many since most people around the world celebrate their 20th on their birthday, instead of on some random day determined by convention, but this is how it works in Korea. In Korea, birthdays are not used to determine how old you are because you are one when you are born and regardless of when you were born and you turn two when the new years roles around. So if you were born on December 31 - you are one year old when born then turn 2 on January 1 because its the new years. In other parts of the world, that baby would be two days old, but in Korea the baby is two years old!
Since everybody ages on the same day, some wise ancestors back in the days came up with a special day to celebrate turning 20, hence the Adult Day. Throwing parties and giving extravagant gifts to each other to celebrate this special day have become the norm in Korea and of course, many are wondering what stars are doing on this special day. Unfortunately, only Jang Gun Suk had a special event for this day while other “adult” stars were busy with their promotional activities.

Yay for turning 20! I think the “adult” day concept is pretty cool, but since I’m all used to the regular way of aging…it seems a bit weird. But whatever! They’re all still gorgeous and hot and stuffs. =)

i believe i heard something like he was actually born in 1986 but wasn’t registered until 1987, yeah, something like that.
Junsu was born december 15th 1986, his parents didn’t register him until the 1st of january in 1987 because it is confusing for a child to be 2 years old before they’re 2 months old.
So officially he celebrates jan 1st as his bday even if its not. but going along with that sting he should have celebrated his last year because he is 21 in korea.
i thought that junsu was also 21 already…86, right? cuz he and eunhyuk from super junior are the same age….

i turned 20 as well i am from june 15 1987, so now i understand the reason why they waited for Junsu to be registered in january…thats cool i knew about the whole year thing, i am kind of comfused would they be 20 in korean years or be like 21 and 22 in korean years then. Because i know someone told me when i was 19 that i was 21 in korea, so that means now that i turned 20 thats like 22 or something!
Didn’t Junsu’s parents lie about the year that Junsu was born in? because his bday is in December and it would be kind of weird if all of a sudden he turns two when he can’t even lift up his head! haha. He IS the second youngest in DBSK. and hes not 21 yet. ooooo such a young talented guy ;D

yes everyone in asia using this system in some way and it isnt strange if you think about it. are you alive in the womb? yes. so why should you only count the days when you are out of the womb as being alive. technically you are in the womb for ten months so that is why you are considered one when you are born. in vietnamese tradition and chinese traditions they usually wait a month or two and have a one year birthday party for the baby. this is my first time hearing about the whole new year’s day add one year. how does that work? you born november so you are 1, then january first you are 2 then november again you are 3??? that makes no sense. i think popseoul was not clear in her explanation and what she is trying to say is what i am saying: when you are “born” you are one and in the next year you are two.
