Uh oh! Psy is in trouble

0601-psy2.jpg

Korea’s yupkiest rapper, Psy is in trouble again. This wild and outspoken rapper is infamous for his “liberal” behavior and blunt comments, but this looks serious putting the newly wed in a difficult situation. Psy is under investigation because of acquisitions/rumors/evidences (there are so many conflicting reports regarding this – so take your best pick) that he failed to complete his “military duties.”

Although it’s called “military duties,” Psy did not serve in the army like the other healthy Korean males. Instead he took a job at an IT company, which somehow replaces your military service. I’m not too familiar with why or how this kind of arrangement was made by the Korean government in the first place, but basically if you work for a nominal fee for a longer time (I believe three years instead of two years you would’ve served at the army) at certain firms, it magically replaces your military duties. But this sweet deal is really hard to come by because there are only a handful of companies that are allowed to offer this kind of exchange. Anyhow, here are the acquisitions/rumors/evidences made by netizens and the prosecutors.

Rumor 1: Psy was able to get this sweet deal because his dad is a major stockholder of the IT company that offers them
Psy’s Rebuttal: My dad owns 2% of the company

Rumor 2: Psy was absent frequently
Psy’s Rebuttal: I was never absent during my three years of service, but I left early due to illness about three times

Rumor 3: Psy was a comp-mang (computer dummy), therefore he did not qualify to work for the IT company
Psy’s Rebuttal: I had the necessary credentials. I passed the Information Management Exam (정보처리기능사 자격시험) in 2000.

Rumor 4: Psy performed 100 times while he was serving his military time
Psy’s Rebuttal: I performed less than 10 times per year. I held less than two concerts and I was the feature guest at various concerts once in a blue moon.

This case is still under investigation and it’s been reported that Psy is fully cooperating with the authorities up-stairs. However this military investigation craze has been spreading and 7 other singers and 2 second generation chaebols are also under fire. Nothing is final yet, but it would really suck if Psy had to go back to the army to serve his time again.

    Aigoo ~ it’s really annoying so see so many netizens always pounding on celebrities about it. I’m sure normal people have tried to avoid the army…so why make a huge deal about celebrities doing it? -__-;;

    I think some Korean people are taking this whole Army thing a little to far. I’m not trying to be rude but I see why things are the way they are. I see why people move away from S.Korea. If people would get off there backs about there Army duties they wouldn’t run away. I can’t even believe that there investigating something that a bunch of people who don’t even know him said. I mean if people don’t run toward the Army before there time then people will be saying all kind of crap. You can’t even win.

    Korean netizens are indeed revolting and are only mildly less malodorous than cow feces; but on the matter of military service, they are right. These celebrities usually get plush enlistment job as is, but for them to try to get out of even that is really disgusting.
