SuJu fans are killers Part II

The reaction of Lee Eun Ji’s suicide is somewhat mixed, demonstrating the complexity of this issue. First of all SM commented “What can we say? We are shocked by this as well.” Personally, I wasn’t surprised by SM’s comment, but they could’ve done more than just say we don’t know what to say. Why couldn’t they dedicate a song to her? Why couldn’t they attend her funeral services? Why didn’t they stop all activities for a day or two in memory of their fan? After all, Lee Eun Ji was SuJu’s fan just like any other die-hard fan and just continuing with their activities as if nothing happened seemed inconsiderate if not obnoxious.

Star King’s producers wrote on their message board that they are heartbroken to see a very bright girl end her life tragically and aired a minute tribute in memory of Lee Eun Ji. And finally Elves (SuJu fans) released a public apology letter apologizing for what they did. I’m glad to see some Elves taking responsibility of their actions, but what angers me most is that Lee Eun Ji’s cyworld post back in May clearly demonstrated that she was suffering from depression, but Elves just continued to torture the poor girl.

Lee Eun Ji mentioned that she went up to her attic several times because she thought that it was better to end her life than to continue with her rigorous diet (she starved herself for three months, drinking only one or two cups of milk daily). She also cried her heart out saying it’s very difficult to deal with all the crap she’s currently going through. Before her weight loss, people treated her like a pig and after her weight-loss people are treating her like a liar (some were accusing her of losing weight via plastic surgery and/or diet pills). Any sensible person would’ve realized that this girl is suffering a lot and that she’s in fragile condition, but Elves ignored her plead and continued to attack her, which apparently pushed Lee Eun Ji over the edge.

I just hope that this isn’t “hey I apologized and my conscience is clear” kind of deal. Instead, I hope that all fans learn the gravity of hateful comments towards celebs and fans to prevent future tragedies like this. Am I asking for too much?

Thosse fucking bitches, they’re not sorry for what they did. I’d like to pound their face in. What they did was completely uncalled for. I’d like to make them want to commit suicide.

  3. 3 kimchicakes June 11, 2007 at 9:08 am

if Suju say something about the suicide- dedicate a song etc, that means that they are taking responsibility so they probably don’t want to do that….

  4. 4 jane =] June 11, 2007 at 9:10 am

Personally, im not suprised by SM’s response either. i dont think that any of the things you mentioned that they “shouldve done” is really necessary. they could feel somewhat guilty sub-consciously, but otherwise, i dont think they really have a reason to. its not their fault that “elves” harbored so much jealousy as to torture & harass eunji. they didnt stir up this huge reaction among fans, and they didnt start it either. im sure that many of the super junior members or SM staff feel sorrow and pain because of this incident, but “writing a song” or “having a day off” in memory of her would be too much. i can say that almost every suju fan is somewhat dedicated, if not too much, and if one fan out of the millions commited suicide, is it really necessary to hold something in memory for her? i know im being a bit cold hearted, but im just saying what would happen if SM would ever do that. and forgive me for saying this as well: i argued this in the post before this, but it was eunji’s decision to cause her own death. it was also her own decision to decide to come on star king and publicize herself. i think she was mature enough to know that there would be nasty comments towards her, because almost everyone knows about the crazy jealous fans out there. Nevertheless, i really do hope that fans (antis and elves) will learn that people (ordinary & celebrities) have lives hard enough without their rude comments and harassments.
P.S. popseoul- did you use the links for the cyworld and picture that i gave you or did you go to soompi?, cause thats where i got most of my information.

i hope those pathetic fans burn in hell.

    Elves? More like Trolls.

  6. 6 joyce June 11, 2007 at 11:25 am

no youre not asking too much
this is a person’s life we are talking about not just some animals’
some artists take their time to visit dying fans then what about someone who already pssed away
im a fan of suju but seeing no reaction from them especially kangin is what im really worried the most..

dbsk and suju must learn to control their fans once in a while

i wonder if those people know what they really have done..

    because i believe in karma

when they grow older, and see their daughters do the same things i wonder what they would feel..would they feel guilty or say
‘oh that’s okay, i did that when i was younger too’

    sorry im really angry

  7. 7 luminality June 11, 2007 at 11:35 am

i agree with jane and joyce. however, i do think that maybe they (not all of them) could’ve at least attended the funeral service. i’m actually quite shocked to see that the group, especially kangin is not showing much reaction. well, i guess they probably have their reasons. they have lives too…it just bothers me how obsessive some fans can be. but i guess that’s what pop idol groups aim for. die-hard fans. *sigh* what can we do?

  8. 8 Eve June 11, 2007 at 11:37 am

I don’t even understand how one picture can drive fans into a frenzy….I don’t get it at all. I don’t know if it’s their culture that makes them like that but NO ONE I know would EVER do anything like that. Not even mentioning what a horrible thing it is, talk about a waste of time.

Even if I was obsessed with a group – I wouldn’t waste my life stalking or harassing their friends/people they have taken pictures with. I’ve heard a lot of stuff about fans/anti-fans and no offense – they’re just as bad as each other.

They really should have better things to do.

  9. 9 ed June 11, 2007 at 11:45 am

thanks popseoul for the update & info. i wonder if these fans made harrassing lee eun-ji as a way to socialize with each other. since fandom is already a subculture in itself, with pecking orders, sisterhood and bonding. there’s strength in unity. and with the distance between people over internet, text-messaging, this type of bullying is even easier to do. you don’t have to look at someone’s face, so no guilty conscience there. you don’t have to see how they hurt in pain, their lives coming apart, walled in disapproval and hate their families can’t protect them from.

  10. 10 rargh June 11, 2007 at 12:04 pm

As great of a publicity stunt as it’d be if they were to dedicate a song to her and attend the funeral, copycat suicides wouldn’t be out of the question with these nutty fans.

  11. 11 Matthew June 11, 2007 at 12:09 pm

I think SM can be considered partially responsible, as they kind of approve and support the obcessive behaviour of DBSK and SuJu fans. For them it’s really good, they’re selling CDs and making a lot of money. However, the girlfans’ attitude towards their fandom has gone too far, yet SM doesn’t seem to care about it.

WHAT group, singer or whatever in the world would want such obcessive, insensible fans? You don’t need to do irrational things to show your love for your idol. The “Elves” KILLED someone, for God’s sake! One can argue the girl was already depressive for other reasons, but making it worse and leading her to kill herself isn’t something to feel guilty about?

  12. 12 monalisa June 11, 2007 at 12:10 pm

Perhaps Suju members did not attend the funeral for fear of their safety. Eun-ji grieving parents and relatives may not welcome their presence at the funeral.

  13. 13 suzana June 11, 2007 at 1:20 pm

i agree with matthew..i think that SM should try to at least look out for crazy fans…its vrey hurtful if a fan dies and then u hear things like this….i think SM is really irresponsible

  14. 14 lennie June 11, 2007 at 1:24 pm

agree with monalisa. also, who knows how hard suju is taking this? maybe publicly, they’re putting up a front, but kangin is human, and i’m SURE this is rough for him. of course this picture was not the sole reason for lee eunji’s suicide, but elves’ response to it pushed her over the edge.

  15. 15 han June 11, 2007 at 1:38 pm

i still can’t believe that picture is the reason the girl died…
and kang in isn’t even that hot (show this message to the elves i want to know if they can find me and do what they did to the poor girl)

if SM made a song dedicated to her, the crazy fans would probably start killing themselves (although i won’t mind this) so they get songs too,
    we all know they’re lunatics
man i hope they die a painful death
overweight people are the most insecure and hateful messages are the last thing they need…i used to be really fat too so i know…and the feeling that you’re ugly and fat never really leaves you even if you’ve lost all the weight…as much as i hate suicidal people, i can’t really blame her…but i think it’s such a waste that the girl spent the months prior to her death starving herself..

  16. 16 SeoulRia June 11, 2007 at 1:59 pm

the government should crack down on those and other fuckers who post malicious posts on the internet before it claims for innocent lives.

  17. 17 sara June 11, 2007 at 2:07 pm

freakin retarded …sm should have said or done more..but whatever…they should apoligize but whats the use, she’s dead they cant bring her back…i feel bad for suju but sm should have done done more…

  18. 18 Namcy June 11, 2007 at 2:15 pm

The fans responsible should realise they just killed a person.

  20. 20 junsufan June 11, 2007 at 2:41 pm

The fans are responsible..Suju is innocent..=.=

  21. 21 Narae June 11, 2007 at 3:26 pm

i don’t think doing a song or dedicating something to that girl was necessary…because then we will have die-hard fans killing themselves or doing whatever it takes to get notice and benefit the same treatment. Suju is not responsible. That girl was weak. I’m sorry but i don’t pity people who end up their lives for whatever reasons!

  22. 22 Brian June 11, 2007 at 3:36 pm

Sm Entertainment does deserve a lot of blame because Lee Soo-man pretty much developed and perfected today’s star-making machine that drives K-pop, a machine that exploits the crazed, hormone-driven behavior of young girls.

By focusing on the personalities (Kangta! HEro! Shin-dong!) rather than the music, SM Entertainment and their ilk play to the personal desires of the fans, young girls who are less interested in the music their favorite group makes than in the actions of their own personal “oppa.” SM Entertainment actively encourages this sort of hero worship as it drives sales and popularity, and that’s why the fans went so fuckin bonkers when “some other” girl gained the sort of access to their heroes that they can only dream of.

Poor Lee Eun-ji is a victim of a mentality perpetuated and encouraged by SM Entertainment as a sales strategy. And for that they should be condemened.

  23. 23 toocutedoggy June 11, 2007 at 5:24 pm

..ahh.. poor girl .. R.I.P ..otherthan that … people have been traeting the celeb like GOD …=__=… WTH…this isn’t right… u r supposed to like a celeb and respect of what are their doing….no coming through bashing their fans becoz of the act…>

  24. 24 amareally June 11, 2007 at 5:48 pm

Oh GOD !! what a crazy fans they are !!! do they even think they stand a chance with the boys themselves so they treated a girl like that ??? the extrimist Elves should burn in hell, and Super Junior should really take some actions towards those crazy Elves !!

  25. 25 Matthew June 11, 2007 at 9:23 pm

    @narae:
“Suju is not responsible. That girl was weak. I’m sorry but i don’t pity people who end up their lives for whatever reasons!”

No one is blaming SuJu for anything. The people to blame are the stupid girls who harassed Eun-ji. How can a girl that forced herself to drink only milk on a daily basis to lose weight be “weak”? The girl suffered before she died, and for no reason.

What I think SM should do is, at least, realize that those crazy fans’ behaviour is not normal, and it should not be supported. Just saying they are “shocked” because of what happened doesn’t change anything – pehaps they don’t want it to change. Oh, making a better statement would be nice, too. Can’t they write more than one line about what happened?

  26. 26 Gna4 June 11, 2007 at 11:06 pm

personally I think the girl who committed suicide just should have ignored the girls..because when add oil to fire -it just gets worst. If they knew she didn’t care about what they said.. they would have stopped eventually..and this girl seemed to be messed up from the beginning, she really had great mental problems/anxieties..and about the whole SM entertainment just releasing their statement like that.. I believe its for the best..because if they go on and do thinks like you said, dedicate a song..and what not, other crazy fans..and might think if they kill themselves -then their favorite singers might actually remember them…etc. -because some K-fans are actually insane fans; not sure if I explain myself…

    ~thanks for posting.

  27. 27 hwanheeholic June 11, 2007 at 11:12 pm

I seriously think it’s useless for the fan’s to apologize now. No matter how sorry they are, it won’t bring Eun Ji back to life. They seriously need to learn, after all these suicides, I can’t believe they can still be so stupid and continue torturing people like this. Poor girl didn’t do anything but take a simple picture with Kang In, just like any Suju fan would want to. They bash on people simply because they’re envious. Heck, if they have all the time to bash on people, why don’t you go do something more useful.

Sometimes I wish chattel slavery still existed–leave these no life suckers with something to do, something harmless.

  32. 32 KT June 12, 2007 at 6:07 am

    Okay…
I said this in the last post,
BUT… you need to change the damn title!
Because all Suju fans are NOT killers okay.
God. It’s posts like this that give people the wrong impression.

And as sad and horrible as this is, why should Suju stop what they are doing or dedicate a song for something that wasn’t even their fault? So some of their fans did stupid things, it doesn’t mean that Suju themselves had anything to do with it. All Kangin did was take a picture with her. And only Kangin so why should the whole of Super Junior suffer?

And haven’t you thought that maybe Kangin does feel really bad because of the Elves actions? Don’t you think he wanted to go to her funeral? He probably did. But because of his job, he couldn’t. Because the unfortunate truth is that he has places to go and places to be because there are a whole crapload of other fans that want to see him. Fans in China or Japan or in the small cities of Korea. They all want to catch of glimpse of Suju. As horrible as they feel about Lee Eunji’s death, the fans who had nothing to do with this whole ordeal would feel cheated and upset.

Like what if Super Junior or any group or singer was going to come to America to perform and but something like this happened and they didn’t come. Can you imagine how pissed American fans would be? All the money and time they spent in getting ready to go to their concert would have been wasted.

Don’t get me wrong. I feel really bad for Lee Eunji. May she rest in peace because I know what it feels like to be yelled at for being “fat” because to Asians anything above 120 is fat so… shit… we just have different views.

And about those ELF picking on her even if she was depressed. Some of them might not have known she was depressed because not everybody CARES enough to read every single post on peoples cyworld or blog. And on top of that, this is mean but truthfully, do people pick on people that are stronger than them? No. They pick on people that they are able to pick on. Go to any school and ask a bully why they pick on a certain kid. They’ll say because they are weak and they are able to pick on them. This was like that. She should have been strong and just laughed at the fans for trying to ruin her life.

But in the end, it had to come to this so…

  33. 33 KT June 12, 2007 at 6:17 am

    Oh by the way…

You guys that said they should burn in hell or die or suffer or something on that, you do realize that this is how this entire ordeal started. Basically because people say mean things about or to other people. That was how this entire thing started. So in the end, it doesn’t make you any different from the people who harassed her.

Of course I’m not saying that you’re going to go to Korea and actually stalk them down and kill them. But at the very root, disliking and/or wishing harm on someone you don’t even know because of something they did, makes you guys all the same.

  34. 34 eevee June 12, 2007 at 6:47 am

wow KT u said everything i wanted to say. some good points. i dont think anyone should start pointing fingers. if this gets out of hand, it can be as bad as this girl’s death. and i agree, you should change the title. i know that u really sympathize with the girl, but ur website should try to be unbiased in a situation as controversial as this. so please change the title. its very misleading and for us suju fans out there, it can be hurtful. also i agree that the girl should take at least most of the responsiblity for her own actions. she could have got help but her was mentally unstable and not strong enough, and im not saying this just because i dont like suicidal people. but because its the truth. and plus if suju showed too much emotions openly in public, it might even harm them, not make them seem more noble in the public eyes. u dont know what can happen. this is not as simple as it may seem to people. so we should just stop talking about this topic and wish that she can rest in peace. its the best we can do for everyone

  35. 35 angelteuk June 12, 2007 at 7:03 am

Going off of what monalisa said.. if Super Junior attended the funeral, that would make everything ten times worse and we’d be back at the same place, blaming Super Junior for doing the wrong thing. Why? Because wherever Super Junior goes, rabid fans follow. Take for example, Donghae’s father’s funeral. Fans actually followed them and SCREAMED for Donghae and were shaking their placards around. Does Eunji’s family really deserve that kind of treatment at their daughter’s funeral?

Also, what’s all this about blaming Lee Sooman for this? Why not blame LSM’s parents for giving birth to him so that he could make a huge, successful entertainment company? Or maybe his grandparents for giving birth to his parents? That’s just going too far. LSM made his company and produced his artists, that’s it. Just because he supposedly “allows fans to go crazy” doesn’t mean that this is his fault. It’s called business. Fans love his artists, fans buy CDs, he makes money. Besides, how do you expect LSM to tell hundreds of thousands of fans to not do something? You can’t control what fans do.

There’s really no point in pointing fingers at anyone, what happened happened and there’s nothing we can do to change it. Putting the blame on someone doesn’t make anyone feel any better, and it won’t make Eunji come back to life. Saying some fans should burn in hell won’t help either, it just makes you look really bad.

    RIP

  38. 38 popseoul June 12, 2007 at 9:21 am

    To SuJu fans,

The title was chosen to prove a point – that some die-hard fans were responsible for pushing Lee Eun Ji over the edge and I believed that any sensible person reading this entry will understand the message conveyed in the post. And it is demonstrated by commenters referring to those responsible as “crazy fans” or “extreme fans.”

As for many of your comments that not all SuJu fans are crazy like that – that’s true but it’s ALSO TRUE that there are some die hard fans who see no shame in criticizing an innocent girl over a picture taken with their favorite oppa.

If you are worried about the bad rep associated with SuJu fans because of what a handful of fans did, remember that this happens in ALL organizations. One person can tarnish the entire organization’s rep in matter of seconds.

I’m not trying to spread the hate, but point out the detrimental side effects of extreme fan behaviors. I understand some of your concerns and if I feel that animosity toward Elves are getting out of hand, I’ll consider changing the title.

  39. 39 Houa June 12, 2007 at 9:26 am

  40. 40 KT June 12, 2007 at 12:02 pm

    Dearest popseoul person…
    You’ll consider it?
    You should definately change it.
Of course I’m not trying to force you.
But you should so you don’t give other people the wrong impression. I’m not saying this only as Suju fan but I think that the title is way too harsh. Think of it this way, wouldn’t you be upset if a star you liked was blamed for the exact same situation? Like Lee Junki or DBSK or Hyunbin. Anybody.

Also I read up on it and it said that a male classmate of hers spread the rumor that she was taking pills and/or had surgery. And also, it wasn’t just Elves that harrassed her. A lot of other people bothered her about it. Although the Elves actions might have contributed a lot to pushing her over the edge. It’s not solely the Elves fault.

So basically what I’m saying is… if you could please change it, I’m sure a lot of us would appreciate it.

  41. 41 joyce June 12, 2007 at 12:50 pm

i have to agree with popseoul..

“Also I read up on it and it said that a male classmate of hers spread the rumor that she was taking pills and/or had surgery. ”

saying this now, doesnt ease up the issue really..
it IS a rumor, who knows if one of her classmates did really do that to her..
this is like trying to get away

    however, if you may,
    please suggest a better title..
but it will still all boil down to the same thing..

  42. 42 joyce June 12, 2007 at 12:51 pm

by the way.. i dont hate nor dislike ELVEs as a fanclub..
its those extremists that i dont like

  43. 43 julie June 12, 2007 at 1:54 pm

    Gna4,

some people are mentally strong ebnough to endure that kind of harrasment, but eunji may not have been that type…imagine if you were in her shoes…getting crap from your parents cuz you were fat, getting shit from your peers because you were fat and then getting death threats because you took a picture with a certain entertainer…with all that emotional stress…i can see why she commited suicide…some things are easier said than done

and about lee sooman…SM isnt what it used to be…they actually took talented people and used their raw talents to showcase them…groups like HOT, shinhwa ans ses were products of him…but taking people..giving them talent they didnt have…such as acting or singing or dancing and training them for SIX YEARS is exactky what someone else stated…they breed these types of stars….not God-given talent

  44. 44 Namcy June 12, 2007 at 3:36 pm

    No, popseoul is right.

    Suju fans ARE killers.

If they really cared and felt “ashamed”, they would have reported it to the Police or would have condemned the actions of their peers.

  45. 45 Eun. June 12, 2007 at 6:54 pm

I don’t understand why Suju or SM should feel responsible for her death. They didn’t cause it. Yeah, it might have been indirectly caused through levels of sources and people, but it gets a little lost and confusing in the process. Should they really take responsibility for something they didn’t do? Kangin took a picture with a fan (something he does regularly) so it doesn’t make sense why some people seem to take it as more than that. Plus, this girl was anorexic. (Drinking a cup of milk once a day?) She was doing harm to herself already. The fans who attacked her seemed to have been a catalyst.

To Namcy, did Suju fans take a knife to the girl’s throat? Did the physically, tangibly kill her? Are they arrested for homicide? No, so the headline is, you know, wrong. It’s misleading to link all Suju fans, a general term, with a term as accusatory as killers. Not all fans committed the act it is doubtfult hat anyone of them approved. What, you think that Suju fans don’t care about this event? You think that they’re not afraid of being associated in the same repute as the unbalance, unfocused girls? You don’t think they don’t condemn these girls’ actions? You’re being a little too quick to judge there.

  46. 46 BlonDy June 12, 2007 at 8:11 pm

god rest her soul 2 ur heavenly kingdom , & punish those who took her life, Amen

  47. 47 KT June 12, 2007 at 9:06 pm

Something I forgot to add before.
You make it sound like the Elves who apologized were all lying to clear their conscience. That was wrong. Because they are human too. I’m sure most of them felt bad for what they did when they heard that she died. And the person who wrote the letter could have sincerly meant that they were sorry for doing it. But you make them sound like heartless demons. But yeah, I’m just stating my opinion. You could have meant what I just said and not wrote it. If I misunderstood, I’m sorry.

    Joyce.
I read it in different news articles so it’s not a rumor. But yeah you’re right. It won’t change anything.
Oh and I meant changing the title, not add the classmate thing. I just wanted to state the fact that it wasn’t just Elves who did it. Because everyone was making it sound like it was all the Elves doing and it’s not.

    Namcy.
Saying the they are killers is WRONG. Because you’re saying that every person who likes Suju is homocidal. So yeah… I’m going to grab my kitchen knife and stab my best friend in the heart because she thinks they are ugly and can’t sing. Yeah. I’m SO going to do that. (I’m joking by the way.)

But you do have a point that they should confess to what they did. If not confess, I really think they should at least apologize to the parents. But you do realize that it wasn’t 1 or 2 girls. It was a large group of people so even if they went to the police, what could the police do? Throw them ALL in jail? And there are also people who weren’t Elves that harassed her. Even her fellow classmates could have poked fun at her. They all contributed. So you’re going to throw ALL of those kids in jail???

    And I repeat…

You guys that said they should burn in hell or die or suffer or something on that, you do realize that saying those words doesn’t make you any different from the people who harassed her. No you’re not going to go kill them but at the very root, disliking and/or wishing harm on someone you don’t even know because of something they did, makes you guys all the same.

I’m sorry I didn’t clearify myself last post. Please change the title so that people don’t misunderstand. It’d make a lot of us feel better.

This is just too much. An apology.. issue a public apology for their behavior!? That’s not going to bring that girl back!? I’m a SuJu fan.. but this is just out of control.. for just one picture, they harassed her. They are going to live the rest of their lives with that guilt.

Popseoul is right; KT is gravely wrong.

    End of discussion.

    Haha Gaek.
    Please prove me wrong.
Then I will accept your words.
But until then, please keep your mouth shut and refrain yourself from saying any more foolish words.
