Are you surprised to hear that Rain cancelled his LA concert just hours before the show? Of course not, because Rain is now synonymous with abrupt concert cancellations. There are conflicting reports about the exact reason of the cancellation. Rain and Star M stated that they had to cancel it because V2B Global, the local promoters did not receive the necessary permits for the concert. They are also arguing that they were deceived by the local promoters because they were told that everything was ready, but when they arrived at the Staples Center, the lights and the necessary equipments were missing.
On the other hand, there are also reports that suggest that cancellation was caused by low ticket sales – only 25% of the tickets were sold. In order to break even, they needed to sell at least 60% and since they didn’t even come close to that number, the local promoters decided to cancel the concert.
I think there’s truth in both of their arguments. It’s very possible that the local promoter did not get the necessary permits due to low ticket sales, so it’s silly for Rain and his reps to blame the concert cancellation on the local promoters. Doesn’t he know that he was responsible for the lackluster ticket sales? Once again, Rain is making fools out of himself.
I cannot sympathize with Rain even though he cried once the decision was made and tried to apologize to his fans personally. (Fans, the key word here is “tried” because he didn’t) But I do feel bad for the 5,000 or so fans that went to the Staples Center, expecting to see Rain show some abs on stage, only to find out that it’s cancelled. What a disaster!
Did you know that Staples Center only had two cancellations during the last 8 years and Rain is one of them? What a shame!

Why did Rain postpone his concerts?

And i love how people post stories they read OFF OF A MESSAGE BOARD and hold them as truth over official news reports.
Is that not crazy? Seriously.
Thank you MV for posting V2Bs statement.
Rain fighting! Clouds unite to support Rain no matter what. ^_^
where does thunder and lightning figure in all this? oh, and rain-bow…grrrr!
not surprising. he should have just stuck with jyp and let an experienced man and company take care of this especially a WORLD TOUR -_-;;
i think…leaving jyp was his biggest mistake.
rain sucks, and his fans are dilusion for getting their facts off of message borads rather than the actuall news

well when you put it that way then i apologise for assuming that you dislike the artist.
it is just the way you compose your opinions that some people assume that you have a dislike for them.
i am not saying that people should praise and coddle artists. but if you want to critique someone or something wouldn`t it be polite to be a bit more neutral? by all means opinion away but just remember when some people read your opinions they read it face on. unless the reason for your style of compositions is to create discussions (whether heated or not) or to direct attention to oneself. i suppose when you post your opinions on the internet you wish for your opinions to be heard and i respect that.
but i have to say after reading some other people`s posts that it isn`t repectful to another person regardless on who they are to start calling them demeaning names just because they have made a few mistakes whether it may be big or small. no i am not saying that you specifically call the artist any of those names just that i find it sad that people tend to fall to name calling when they critique something or someone. there is something called constructive criticism.
I joked with my gf the day before saying … “Watch out! The bee might sting again if it doesn’t rain.” Sad to say, I feel bad for her because her and a crap load of ppl just wasted a sh!t load of time/gas/$$ to travel a considerable distance to see his dude and his show. She even started to cry when we hear the weather dude on tv reported “record low rain fall this season” that same evening! Thanks alot man! Some advice to the powers-that-bi, a few days notice prior to cancellation is normally acceptable. A short notice of cancellation 15 minutes after the doors are open and after standing in line for a few hours on show day is unacceptable. Bad Bad business model if you want to keep your customers. Also, a lame excuse from this dude in person would have been better than no excuse or word of reason at all. My two cents!
come on now…no one’s trying to sabatoge rain. if all these reports are true…someone dropped the ball and didn’t do their electrical homework! every city is different but US standards should be the same…how come the stage setup worked in vegas??? and according to the V2Band enough with all this cheesy sh*t about how rain is such an innocent victim
oops…sorry, didn’t get to finish my thought…i meant that i’m tired of rain fans who think he’s perfect and can do no wrong. i’m a rain fan myself but hey…give credit where it’s due…he messed up by not managing his business well. but he’s young and human…just learn from this and make smarter choices in the future.
kementari – Given the situation I seriously have no other way to compose my opinion.
I mean if this was one cancelled concert I would have been more nicer in my criticism, hell if it was two cancelled concerts I would have been nicer. But this has just been one big fiasco and being kind about it is just ridiculous to me.
I think I have been pretty neutral as far as this discussion goes. I don’t blame just one party, yet I hold EVERYONE accountable. But it’s a little annoying when people will blame everyone but Rain when he clearly is the center point of it all.
I don’t know how much more constructive I can be.
Dear Rain, take control of you own image and stop letting everyone else handle things for you. You are a grown man it’s time to start making your own decisions.
Let’s be honest, constructive criticism is nice but it’s not real world. If you mess something up at in life someone will tell you and they most likely won’t go about it positively. Negativity pushes people weather they realize it or not.
No matter what happen, RAIN is always my superstar…
I’ll support you no matter what…
Love RAIN forever…
i think this entire situatiopn could have been avoided, and what all this with ppl trying to sabotage rain, i doubt that
and i agree with boba, im a rain fan, but i refuse to belive he’s perfect like most of you guys think, hes young and he messed up, i think he’ll do better in the future, but he’s not innocent
whoever said he was perfect? that’s why Clouds support him. Rain fighting!
check your information before you say anything. I agree that his company was really disorganized about the concert. Were you guys not even aware of the fact that there was a GAME at the Staples Stadium the night BEFORE the concert? It takes at least 3 DAYS to set up his stage. They had 18 hours to put the gig together and then the city fire officers showed up and disapproved some of the equipment due to “safety” reasonings. But question is why didn’t anyone catch this beforehand and why was it only discovered at the LAST MINUTE? Another thing, why would you hire a management company if you can handle EVERYTHING? Thus, the blame can be on the company and not Rain.
For those of you who keeps crying over Rain’s leaving JYP entertainment, STFU. Don’t you know that his mentor, Park Jin-young, has LEFT JYP entertainment too? why would he stay behind when his mentor isn’t even there anymore? duh! Park Jin Young is now in New York setting up HIS own company in the U.S.
^_^ is just anither dumbass rain fan, get a life, i bet shes gonna go crazy now and respond, well have fun with that, guess what were not bashing rain, wewre just saying he messed up
what a biotch!
first off…it’s his and his company’s fault for making the damn price so goddamn expensive. who the hell would buy a front row ticket for $800+ i dunno how much exactly but i do know it was up there. and the back rows were already the price of the usual front row tickets. i’d rather use my money to go to korea and attend a tvxq or YG concert.
LOL, true that. His concert are BLOODY expensive! At Rain’s concert, you need a pair of binoculars if your ticket is less than $100. How much are YG and DBSK tickets cost anyways?

thank you for your reply. your opinion was read and understood. thanks
Why does everyone blame Rain?
He has always been a hardworking, determined, and modest artist! This is a time for you Koreans to show some support. Don’t be so shallow… praising him when he was chosen for Times and then now bashing him and treating him like a disgrace to the country! I’m not Korean but I still feel for Rain. I think he has been a positive role model to many teenagers, including myself…
Some of you may think that I’m defending him because I’m a crazy fan. Well,I’m not! Can you find another artist who is equally as hardworking as Rain let alone more hardworking than he is? Is there another artist who is as persistent as he is? Is there another artist who goes by the motto: Endless effort, endless endurance, and endless modesty?
Honestly, can anyone give me one reason why he would want to destroy his own career? What can he benefit from cancelling the concerts? Some of you mentioned that his biggest mistake was leaving JYP and JYPE…Can you guarantee that he will be successful in the U.S. with his so called “mentor?” Where is JYP now when Rain needs him the most? Does he even feel sorry for Rain? Mind you… JYP and Rain parted peacefully. Rain treats JYP as his mentor, brother, friend even to this day. What does JYP take Rain for… probably nothing more than a money making machine. What is JYP doing right now? JYP is making headlines about making it big in the U.S. as a producer and how his newly established company is getting him the big bucks.
If you people think that Rain cancelled the concerts for money… then I think you should all use some common sense and L-O-G-I-C. Many people got their refunds the next day for crying out loud! Is money really that important to him? Afterall, Rain is probably more accustomed to being poor than most of us here. Maybe some of you forgot…before his debut, he had starved for seven consecutive days? Rain has worked so hard to get to where he is now. But for some very strange reason people hold him responsible for everything that has gone wrong. Is it because people cannot cope with their anger? What anger? Yes, it’s disappointing that concerts were cancelled… but who could possibly feel worse than Rain himself. If he hadn’t cared about the concert…beter yet if he never meant to perform in LA as some so called credible source reported, why did he fly to LA 2 weeks prior to the concert? Don’t just believe what you read or hear… think! Step out of the box and put yourself in his shoes! Even if the rest of the world doesn’t understand…Koreans should! Where is the Korean pride that you all care so much about? Nothing can be worse than having your own people putting you down and treating you like dirt. Afterall, what has he done wrong? Has Rain committed a crime? No!!!!! Don’t forget… Rain wanted to perform even without the equipment and the staging…. but he wasn’t allowed. Rain wanted to apologize to his fans face-to-face but he wasn’t allowed. If you think that posting a 4 minute long message on YouTube explaining how he feels and how sorry he is isn’t good enough for you… then I don’t know what is! If Rain didn’t care about you fans out there… why did he even bother recording the message?
Some of you might not even care about what I’ve written and that’s perfectly fine! I don’t care either if you’re an anti or a fan. I just hope that people don’t just jump on a bandwagon and start bashing someone without thinking about the situation. Always look at things from different perspectives. Unfortunately, it happend to Rain this time. Who knows… it might happen to another artist in the future. But look on the bright side, at least Rain now knows who his real friends and supporters are. Rain, treat this as a priceless learning experience. You will become wiser and stronger when this is all over! Don’t give up!
im sick of hearing about rain, he fucked up, get over it
if u hate rain so much then why do u post stuff about him?
If you don’t like him, move on and do something you would rather do.
I hardly believe any of you haters are privy to all the information that goes on behind closed doors. Assumptions and conjectures spewed at the highest decibels give you no more credence than the one whispering.
it’s all supply and demand ladies and gentleman.
There are a proportionate amount of people who want to buy those tickets because they can afford them. If he made his concerts at the prices you guys would want to pay then pretty much the world goes to shit.
It’s the fundamental law of economics.

Read that if anyone’s interested.
Con gái — i dunno how much dbsk tickets cost but yg family concerts tickets for 3rd row only cost me $150. that was a good price cause i got to run up to the stage.
Holy Cow, only $150? that’s so cheap. I tried to buy some RAin concert in Las Vegas but my mum wouldn’t let me go. wahhh! Oh well, I know we’re complaining that his tickets are expensive but at least they’re still cheaper than in Asia. in Japan, VIp ticket was $800; In Singapore, $600; etc…I think Vietnam was cheapest, hehe, only $200? yeah..somewhere around there. so stop complaining about the price…if you can’t afford it, stay home. But you’re right, when you’re a true fan, you would spend ridiculous money on your idiol. But hell yeah, Rain is expensive. Of course my baby Rain is expensive. Aja Aja fighting
“Is there another artist who goes by the motto: Endless effort, endless endurance, and endless modesty?”
I hate to point out the obvious, but it’s not very modest to proclaim ‘endless modesty’ as your motto.
It’s also not very modest to flash your chest every other minute.
Anyway, even if sales for the LA concert were OK, they definitely weren’t for Toronto and Hawaii. Let’s face it, he’s still a long way from being popular to anyone who isn’t Asian.
scott….i think he flashes his chest as a marketing ploy, not because he isn’t modest. He realizes that his audience is primarily younger women.
I thought what I needed to say has been said already in the long post… I guess not…
I don’t see how having endless modesty as part of your motto makes Rain, or anyone for that matter, not modest. Rain isn’t saying he’s the most modest person in the world. He’s saying that it is his life principle to try to be modest in everything he does… A motto is “a maxim adoped as an epxression of one’s guiding principle” (Webster’s Dictionary) If the definition of a motto isn’t clear, then maybe refer to another dictionary…
I just don’t see how having modesty as one’s life principle is equivalent to being arrogant!
I meant to type “expression” instead of epxression. Don’t need anyone of you to tell me to spell check.
Looks to me like they booked venues that were far too large for the size of his fan base in the US and Canada. They also charged way too much for the tickets. How many young girls should they have expected to be able to convince their parents to fork over that much money to see the show? Not many, apparently.
Looks to me like greed won over common sense (and modesty).
-o-;
Funny person you are.
Tickets sales = FALSE.
Rain TRIED his BEST to talk to his fans, but he was stopped, what more could he do?
He still insisted on going to the fanmeeting to personally apologize to the fans that showed up for the fanmeeting. WHAT’S THAT?
Aren’t you linked (friends) with Shenyuepop’s site? I don’t agree with what Shenyue and her staff has to say sometimes but at least they state FACTS and do research before posting ignorant crap. I mean 25% sales sold?? at least 60%? WHAT? they sold up to 80% of the tickets = =” which is over 5000 tickets sold. Didn’t Star M say something else as well as the local promoters? I don’t know where the hell you’re hearing these things from but read up the right sources first sweetie.
Hate to rain on your parade, but the Staple Center seats 20 000 people for concerts. 5000 is 25% of 20 000, isn’t it?
okay guys stop it! the thing here is… this crap happened alright?? what can u do? its with -ed now… it happened. rather than complaining and lowering his reputation… better to just stay cool and keep supporting him… i’m not a big fan of rain… but i do pity him for being treated like this by his fans. geez… cool guys… chill…
peace yo =D full house 4eVAAA
don’t wori Bi , come to my country and you’ll never go hungry again! We’ll treat you king here! if your country don’t wan’t you anymore there are other countries! hehe..
They didn’t use the whole stadium.
It was 9000 and something seats. The stage is very big with all the equipment they use so they can’t possibly use the whole capacity anyway, plus they were using realistic numbers since he isn’t big in the US yet.
i love how ppl try and defend him when its obviuos that he messed up
Bottom line is low tix sales. Rain’s international status is all hype, great marketing; and publicity. All press releases regarding the canceled concerts are for damage control and to salvage his career for another day.
It’s very simple, Rain has great Korean fan base, with limited international appeal. He is no where near the international hype his people make him out to be.
His publicity and marketing people have done well to blow him up as an up and coming mega star, but bottom line is he can’t sale in the US yet.
Stop wasting time defending him and figuring why his concerts were cancelled. It’s all damage control released by his people, the same people that built him up and made you believe in him, and the same people that decided to cancel his concerts.
“His publicity and marketing people have done well to blow him up as an up and coming mega star”
For the benefit of his Korean fans. Looking ‘international’ is very important in order to sell in Korea. That’s one of the reasons why so many K-pop songs use code switching between Korean and ‘English’. Deny it if you want, linguists have studied the phenomenon.
Unfortunately this is true. Bottom line is … it’s a business.
What’s cynical about this is that the fans that supported RAIN’s career, are the same fans that RAIN and his people screwed by cancelling the concerts.
Do you really think Rain and his people care? They saved a lot of money by cancelling the concerts to cut their losses, while calculating Rain’s fans (being mostly young and naive girls) would forgive Rain and believe all excuses for cancellations just to support Rain another day.
Sorry, but that’s business. Rain is only a product.
That´s marketing, that´s business , watch this
http://www.rain-usa.com/
But to show Rain as an angel is too much! I do not believe that he is guilty. I have seen so many TV-shows and interviews and I think he is a simple minded, naive, but hardworking person, not able to make such a swindle.
He was pushed up and controlled by his management. And it was simple to manipulate his crazy fans to vote him to the top of the hill in so many votings by nonstop-voting.But this doesn´t means that a most unknown artist can fill up so many large venues in the USA.First his crazy fans have to learn that it was not that good to blow him up.
If you fly to high, sun will burn your wings!
wow, i can’t believe rain’s fans actually take his so-called motto at face-value. surely it’s been years since his debut, and people are able to see it’s part of an extremely successful image-branding? modesty, effort, endurance are all pan-asian virtues — effectively checking the box for language barrier in asia-wide market.
just think, there are tons of entertainers who are modest, hardworking, and enduring without flashing this “motto” all the time! a virtue is something you simply put into practice, and not flash like a badge of honor in an effort of self-promotion! (and self-promo isn’t inherent bad — there are tasteless kinds — rain’s actually tasteful.)
so, pointing out this “motto” as a part of brilliant packaging is not the same as calling him arrogant (which is up to individuals to decide.) it’s simply recognizing the business and media nature of being a famous commodity, i.e. the selling of personality (= packaged + “real”.)
no one in the states will hate him because of the simple fact they have no clue who he is
“He was pushed up and controlled by his management.”
Maybe, but some people would sell their souls for his share of the take, regardless of how little it may be.
Rain will be up again with greater success after this bitter fall. Trust me.
ed – he only said it once. he doesn’t parade it around, it was in the context of an interview that was eased in (not one of those random “what’s your motto?” q’s)
I think many of you non-Rain fans have valid points, but it would be nice if you all did research or know a little bit more about Rain, his management, the concerts, etc. before spurting things b/c I could seriously counter almost everything you’ve said.
you don’t seem to get it. it’s not about chasing down rain’s every personal word and gesture. it’s the totality of his existence as a mediated image, persona. this includes the countless flashing of that virtuous motto by his countless fans. haven’t you heard of how fandom as a culture becomes an inevitable reflection of their adored subject? so you can take a rest from defending every little thoughtful deviation from the clouds’ party line, because it’s not about “attacking” “rain” as your combative-condescending tone thrives on, but simply having independent thoughts about the media manifestations of a mediated subject.
i think many of you rabid Rain fans have noble intentions, but it would be nice if you all tried to engage SOME non-/average fans as reasonable people who can distinguish PR from a projected collective ideal figure — whose meanings are fixed and negotiated through fandom itself, but remains fluid and open-to-interpretation for those outside “The Program.”
True. Well stated. I give props to the PR and Marketing people behind the “Rain Machine.” They have created a great product w/ an appealing image with very little talent other than Rain’s gyrating hips and pumping chest.
I recall a similar attempt by BabyVox to break into the US market. Similarly, BabyVox had great marketing, a sexy image, but no real underlying talent once you got beyond their music videos. But great T&A though. Where’s KIM EZ now adays. Hmmm.
I have nothing against Rain, and I would like to see a Korean break into the US Market. We need that. But I am contiuously disappointed by the over-hype then sudden downfall in their attempts. I’m embarassed not only for them for me as a Korean in the US.
So let’s all hope, Rain and other’s that make that bold attempt to break into the US Market that they learn from their past mistakes.
I wish Rain well in his next attempt to break into the US Film Market with his US motion picture debut SPEED RACER. …….. I hope he spends time learning English other than those common phrases used in his concerts “Hello… I love Los Angeles (or the city he’s in), and … Thank you very much.
I hope his people realize that his theatrical audience will be more diverse and less forgiving than his regular fandom of adolescent teenage girls, unless his people believe the audience will all be like Giorgio Armani.
(Referencing Rain visiting Armani in Italy – see Youtube if you really want to see a Whiteman with an Asianboy Fetish. The implications in the video are gross)
Well, it looks like he’s getting sued.
http://www.rainscoming.ca/
hmm…this is hard.
I have a feeling there’s still a lot in store for Rain (career-wise). But the wave of concert cancellations will definitely leave a stain on his rep.
this is just my opinion…no solid facts or anything.
so if Speed Racer is the only thing he’s riding on for his U.S. debut, I wish him the best. besides, he’s a pretty decent actor
Let’s just face the facts. Rain will only be an international superstar amongst the Asian Countries, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Rain has nothing to compete with amongst other international singers/actors. He has very little real talent besides his dancing abilities. The Majority of Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, and even American-Born Asians do not even care for RAIN.
Be honest with yourselves, the majority of US concert tickets were purchased by Asians, and will only be purchased by Asians.
I applaud his efforts, and how his people generated a lot of HYPE and BUZZ about his international tour, but realistically he will never make it BIG in the US or in any European Country. Of course he may have his cameos or bit parts in Films, but that will all fade.
Rain, I suggest you concentrate on conquering and maintaining your presence in Asia. Don’t spread yourself out too thin and too soon. Learn from the damage you created for yourself by cancelling your US Tour.
What’s wrong with being the King of Pop of Asia. China has 1.3 billion people that is over 20% of the World Population. Put your ego aside, don’t embarass yourself in the States.
