Was Rain’s fiasco preventable?

0704-rain-after-interview.jpg

Here are the behind the scene stories that lead up to It’s Raining World Tour’s demise. It was reported that Korean Air decided to discontinue their sponsorship for Rain and his entourage when the contract ended in May. Star M asked Korean Air to extend their sponsorship since they postponed their US concerts, but KA refused since Rain faced many legal battles at the time of negotiations and they weren’t getting the expected return from the sponsorship.

JYP commented that he regrets not teaching Rain English before he debuted, since that’s Rain’s biggest weakness. When Rain made headlines with the Times 100 list last year, he received many requests from tv shows. But when they found out that Rain needed a translator, they all backed away. In addition, according to JYP, it was Rain’s decision to leave JYP. JYP knew that if he asked Rain to stay that he would’ve, but he couldn’t since Rain said that he wanted to make it alone. And let’s not forget about the mediocre concert performances in Hong Kong and Sydney and the cancelled concerts in Canada and all of US.

Now the blame game has started. V2B is blaming Star M for not helping them to obtain the permits and guiding them up setting up the stage while Star M & Rain are blaming the local promoters. I’m sure that this will be all sorted out after dozens of lawsuits, but it seems like there were enough red lights during the last couple of months to warn Rain and his entourage that something was going wrong way before the LA concert was cancelled. So this entire fiasco was preventable, but can Rain make his US crossover a success after he caused himself this much damage?

Thank you Steppie for all you’ve done in your comments , the stuff about Rain…
I was amazed u said everything,i have in my heart…supposed to be , to tell people not put blame everything to Rain.
Maybe its enough bashing him up and let us all leave him alone. He’s been hurt, almost to crucify him to the cross for the mistakes he never wants to happened..He doesn’t deserved, all of this bad thing people said about him…We must have ,even a bit of consideration to an artist like him..
Forgive me,I’m not a Korean as well but I love him the way he sung and to act in his movies…I admired him and support him unconditionally…
Whatever his decisions he made ,like to end having business to JYP or JYPE..We must support him not to put blame in him..Personally, I don’t know whats the reasons behind, but that was his decisions; supposedly us will understand.
The truth is who was on earth wants to destroy his own career?Of course not even himself, doesn’t want this things happened.
It’s all done, the damages in his name were done…Let us Rain decide for himself, that was his own life and his the one responsible for whatever mistakes he might done .
I’m sure ,he is more careful mingling and to give trust to anyone around him..he is more become wiser and stronger than before…For every failures might have,a person more become toughter and educated well how to face the troubles in life..Rain looks a kind of tough guy, hope he will ….
Whatever ur decision is,I’m always here Rain to support you…I believed in you Rain,I will be in us side through good in bad times…

I am a fan of Rain, I’m not Korean but from Trinidad,
West Indies now living in Toronto Canada. I missed my opportunity to see him when the Toronto concert was cancelled but I believe he will be back. I’ve read extensively about the matters involved and still believe
in Rain. If any thing he was betrayed by those he
trusted to launch his US career. He’s so hard working
and since we know that things have never come easy
to him, we know that he will work harder and will
succeed. Rain will learn from this and come back
better and wiser. I believe that JYP and Rain are
still friends and that they will remain friends.
Rain is very thankful to JYP for all that he did for him.
So everyone wait and see he will succeed.

All the best to Jung Ji-Hoon!!

To Steppie, Mary3lucky etc, I share your sentiments.

I personally feel that Rain leaving JYP at this crucial stage of his career is not the smartest move, but I continue to love and support him all the same.
It wrenches my heart just thinking how much disappointment and pain he must have gone through (when his LA concert was cancelled)and is going through now, being criticised and all by people he thought are his fans, friends and supporters. It pains me just thinking how people can be so quick to change sides when things go wrong. When he wins accolades, they are quick to praise and declare undying love for him, but when he flounders and fall, this same group of people chose to step on him rather than to give him a helping hand.

Bi-sshe, sarang hae. As much as you keep saying that if there is no Cloud, there will be no Rain, please remember also that similarly, if there is no Rain, there will also be no Cloud. Do not cry if you fall, because there will always be people like me who will always be there to help you up.

i’m not a korean..but i’m a fan of rain…if rain could ever get a chance read this comment..it’ll b cool…because i just want him to know that even if the whole world is against him..i’ll still be on his side… i’ll be on his side not because i’m just so crazy about him..but it’s because i believe that the root of this problem is just a simple 8 words, “JEALOUSY”. as simple as the word is, the consequences and meanings behind it are so powerful…endless..and hurtful… “RAIN..KEEP ON TRYING..BECAUSE THERE ARE STILL A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE ME WILL ALWAYS BE YOUR FANS”

  9. 9 MegaStar Only in Asia July 14, 2007 at 5:41 pm

Let’s just face the facts. Rain will only be an international superstar amongst the Asian Countries, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Rain has nothing to compete with amongst other international singers/actors. He has very little real talent besides his dancing abilities. The Majority of Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, and even American-Born Asians do not even care for RAIN.

Be honest with yourselves, the majority of US concert tickets were purchased by Asians, and will only be purchased by Asians.

I applaud his efforts, and how his people generated a lot of HYPE and BUZZ about his international tour, but realistically he will never make it BIG in the US or in any European Country. Of course he may have his cameos or bit parts in Films, but that will all fade.

Rain, I suggest you concentrate on conquering and maintaining your presence in Asia. Don’t spread yourself out too thin and too soon. Learn from the damage you created for yourself by cancelling your US Tour.
What’s wrong with being the King of Pop of Asia. China has 1.3 billion people that is over 20% of the World Population. Put your ego aside, don’t embarass yourself in the States.

MegaStar Only In Asia – you might be right, and as I have also said in a number of other forums before, Bi is and always will be a super star in Asia. He has already conquered the Chinese market.

The world is just so unfair – why do people of all races and colours support Western stars, but Western audiences seldom or never support Asian stars? Are Western artistes all so accomplished and outstanding – yes I agree there are many who are – but there also are many out there who are so much less talented and less deserving of the hype and attention that they have receive.

Compare this to the earnestness, humility and passion of Bi – it just pains me to think about the prejudices that he has got to overcome only because of his skin colour and nationality. If Bi were born a Westerner, he would probably have become a world superstar in the league of MJ, Celine Dion, Mariah carey etc by now. Is the “white supremacy” mentality so ingrained in mainstream society that many people just assume that Western artistes are naturally more talented and therefore more deserving of attention and support?

I am not Korean and I also do not speak or write Korean (though I’m trying to learn because of Bi!). Many of the people around me are supporters of Western stars and are surprised that I’m a Bi fan – in fact I get strange looks all the time from them when they learn of my “interest”! But that never fazes me – I am proud that I am a Bi-lover and supporting a hardworking and deserving Asian star.

Bi, you might never see this, but if you do, please do not be deterred – even if you do not achieve success in America, KWAENCHANAYO – it is not because you are not good or that you have not worked hard enough, but because of human prejudices which is not within your power to control.

To steppie: “If you think that posting a 4 minute long message on YouTube explaining how he feels and how sorry he is isn’t good enough for you… then I don’t know what is! If Rain didn’t care about you fans out there… why did he even bother recording the message? ”

This message was posted on youtube from a member of rain-usa:

“Jay said three times no camera, video or audio. Promises were made and deliberately broken, unbelievable. I’m thinking maybe a search and wanding may be in order next fan meet if you can’t trust your own members who have no idea what is at stake here. This is just me venting and in no way reflects rain-usa’s opinion on this specific matter. ”

    Just my two cents!
