The much anticipated drama, Air City ended with a whimper over the weekend with less than 10% Nielsen ratings. Ouch, but it wasn’t surprising at all. I personally gave up following this drama about three weeks ago when the storyline started to go downhill and it’s a shame because it actually had a lot of potential. They spent $6 million to produce the drama and they hired two mega stars, Lee Jung Jae and Choi Ji Woo, but the writers couldn’t make the story interesting at all. It got frustrating to expect more so I started to follow Air City’s competitor Bad Couple instead and what a treat that has been! It’s a total gem and I recommend it to those who love chick-flicks. It’ll make you tear, laugh and fall in love with the characters, especially Gi-chan.

it is a shame that the storyline got sooo.. >_
i was about to watch it, but after hearing that it becomes a blah drama, i guess i’ll skip it for now…and they used most of the artists of SM for the OST, i’m surprise tvxq fans didn’t tune in just to hear the song.
fall in love with gi chan indeed. hah!
I knew it was gonna be gay. I laughed at the previews.
I love bad family too.
I like air city a lot and it’s a pity the ratings are so low. I’ve watched until episode 10 and I’m hungry for more. Bad Couple is a cool drama too…the model guy in there is so dreamy!
can’t wait to watch Bad Couple….but right now I’m so addicted to Coffee Prince.
Oh man, Air City = paaaaainful.
It started out promising, but not even Lee Jung Jae could save it. He reminded me of Jae Hee in Witch Amusement, trying his best and obviously being head and shoulders above his peers, but flailing amidst a shoddily constructed story.
Bad Couple, on the other hand… fun, fun, fun.
I love the cute kids.
No matter what.. I’m still gonna buy & watch this drama!!!
Bad Couple is GOOD STUFF. Air City could have been better, A LOT BETTER.
lol i onli like the dongbang songs XP
I remember reading somewhere that Air City was a sort of test case, that the producers had originally intended to have a short run to see whether it could be produced like a British or American television series with units of six or thirteen episodes to be produced for one television season that would continue in the next season.
If the series isn’t that interesting, I guess they won’t find out now.
my mom and my halmuni (who both watch like 15 dramas a day) told me that air city sucked. so i didnt both to watch it. they told me that bad couple sucked too, but i watched the first episode and it was ok, so im going to try to watch the rest. but right now, im waiting for my dad to give me episodes 3&4 of coffee prince, im addicted to that. ive been watching que sera sera (i only have 2 episodes left) and it was pretty good so far. i was unrecommended happy girl and bad girl-which i heard was really good.
i was recommended ***
seems that people are going for show that are not so hype up…..
am watching AIR CITY, not too bad but could be better and waiting for BAD COUPLE.
whatta shame! and both leads are my fave acotrs
I gave up watching this coz school started but i MIGHT STILL finish it
The only reason why I started to watch this drama was because TVXQ sang songs for the OST (obsessed much?) LOL. & because Lee Jung Jae is my ideal man. Other than that, the drama bore me to tears.
i actually liked air city. unlike all the korean dramas ive watched in the past, this one seemed rather refreshing to me. there’s no characters that you come to dislike, no story line that seems complicating and frustrating. it’s something that you could just watch at the end of the day and just relax with. i just wish the ending had been a little different.
it was more of an action drama rather than a love story.
and plus, lee jung jae is HOT!
It’s a shame that jung jae had to go through a failure of a bad drama because of the story line…i would’ve watched even if it had a bad story line…it’s just, i’m not too big of a fan of Choi Ji woo. ahh well, bad couple’s really good though:P
Popseoul, i still can’t leave comments with my other email…do you know what’s wrong?
Anyway…i just wanted to say that it’s a pity that the drama fell through….But still, jung jae is pretty good looking for a mid thirties man…
Omgosh, what the heck is going on? that wasn’t there before! i’m really sorry bout all these comments!
haha, i only like the OST (DBSK songs XD)
hmm, i haven`t watch this before, & from the comments above, i will not watch it..
it sucked maybe because i t lacks romance set ups for the main characters.i mean what is thre used of creating love triangle if they only focus on the problems of the airport.they must blend romance anod actions if they want it that way, otherwise make it pure action…anyway i still can give 3/5 rating for the main characters..
im watching COFFEE PRINCE right now…you can watch it thru VEOH.com sad to say eng sub is until episode 2 only for the meantime…. it is a romantic, comedy drama… i like the story and the characters also esp Yoon Eun Hye…cant wait for the next episodes ;D
im glad i didnt watch it.
the title, and the movie picture didnt interest me at all.
i know i shouldnt judge a book by its cover, or in this case, judge a movie by its picture ._., but still..
Awww..it is sad that this drama will end early. I thought the drama was ok, but does have its boring parts. Maybe it was a little hyped too much and didn’t meet the viewers expectations. Loved the songs though done by DBSK. I guess that’s the only reason why I tuned in, b/c of DBSK.hahahaha
i beg to differ – i thought it was awesome. very strong characters, funny and interesting secondary characters and a refreshing change from the same old korean dramas. i loved it and so did most of my friends who watched. choi ji woo was gracious as ever and wow, lee, jung jae was very strong yet playful. best couple i’ve seen in a long time.
It might be a whimper to some people, but to several who commented in different websites about “Air City” really loved the drama. It’s very different to the typical Korean melodramas. It’s full of action, interesting & exciting events, some romance, some comedy & some melodrama(similar to some American films). I watched it twice & still couldn’t get enough of it. I was kinda sad it ended too soon. I’m pretty sure it will be received better internationally. I’ll be buying this drama when its DVD comes out.
how sad. They even had DBSK’s song featured in the drama. I guess it didn’t really do it any justice. haha. DBSK should make a single with those two songs. because its awesome. One of their best songs.
I just watched AIR CITY recently. And I really like it a lot! As commented before, it was unlike any other Korean series I’ve watched before, it was different. I also agree that this series is for an international crowd, maybe. . . I’m going to watch it again. Hopefuly it will have a season 2 with Jung Jae Lee & Ji Woo Choi as it leads again. I was hoping they can release a season 2 internationally. I could PRAY for it. . .
haha i totally thought the opposite. I thought the drama was very different then others. All teh other dramas are so cutezee and so unrealistic.. But I thought this sone had some sentimental story to it. The ending I thought was very meaingful… haha maybe its just me.. but I loved it. <3
i would seriously love a second season tooo
Just as stated on some of the comments above, the Korean audience is not ready for this type of drama. This drama will probably be more acceptable internationally. It’s too bad because I think it’s a great drama with great actors like Choi Ji Woo, Lee Jung Jae & Lee Jin Wook. The rest of the casts did good acting too. I’m hoping they will have more series of Air City in the very near future with the same casts. All the writer has to do is make it little bit more melodramatic which I think the Korean audience is used to, just don’t make it a tragedy please.
Well, we all know there will always be “two sides” to anything, even with this drama too. People liking it, like myself, and than there are others who don’t. I do agree that this drama is different from the various KDrama of love triangle, person dying from a terminal disease, a tragedy through and through…but this one, it is refreshing to have a totally different aspect of things. This drama and I do hope they run it like a series continues, because it deals with reality of life, and the going-ons of things..The main characters had really great charisma on the set, there is a connection there. Both actors were good, and hopefully the writers will “beef up” the story lines. Focus more on them, instead of everyone else, and the airport. I would buy it if it comes out of DVD, because it is good. Different from most of those Korean dramas, which really becomes monotous most of the time.
I bought the movie. It looked so good in the preview but it does suck a lot! Nice storyline, but it’s confusing because everyone got issues that somehow connects with someone else then everyone is like in love with each other or seems like it. The soundtrack is really nice, that seems to be the only good thing about the movie.
sorry to disagree, but i thought air city was a refreshing change to the typical, very predictable korean dramas. its approach is different which is why people didn’t take to it but i thought it was great. loved the secondary characters who were very humorous and brought a lot of depth to the story and i don’t care what anyone says, who can go wrong with choi ji woo and lee jung jae? this drama had a lot of fans here who all want to see the story continue. the only part that really sucked was the ending.
I just watched Air City and I think it’s a great. Lee Jeong Jae is a great/wonderful actor. He portraited so well in all scenes, like his facial expressions. Love his movements, smiles. He is manly, and yet has his fun-loving side.
The only drawback with Air City is like one of you said – The ending. I would love to think that Lee Jeong Jae will come back with Choi Ji Woo after his mission; as for his other previous missions although badly wounded at times, but he always won the battles and came back safely. But I can’t help to ask…what would you guys think the ending would be? Please share your thoughs. Thanks.
I watched numerous Korean dramas/movies, never was an actor, no matter how handsome they are, have drawn my attention as it has for Lee Jeong Jae. After seeing Lee Jeong Jae in Air City, I have browsed and surfed the net wanting to find more about his other dramas/movies, and want to see more of him. Lee Jeong Jae is a reat actor, and an attractive man with character!
Kirei from Canada
Air City is a great drama. I love it. LJJ & CJW are great too. Hoping for season 2.
Air City is being aired on AZN TV here in California. It started on 11/19/07 from Monday thru Friday. I love this drama. I watched this in the internet, but AZN TV has better English subtitles. I liked Choi Ji Woo, Lee Jin Wook & Lee Jung Jae (3 great actors). Lee Jin Wook is so handsome. Choi Ji Woo & Lee Jin Wook look great together.
Lee Jin Wook’s character showed so much love for Choi Ji Woo’s character. I’ll choose him if I was her. I like the other supporting actors, too. I just hope Air City will have future series with the same casts for international viewers.
I am a fan of Asian comedy/action/drama. Air City has been a disappointment mainly because it has had multiple plots but no main theme. Most dramas build on a main theme with a few sub-plots along the way infusing comedy/love to keep it interesting. I have been unable to determine what the purpose of this drama is supposed to be.
I’m still watching it on AZN. I like it a lot for many of the reasons that others didn’t. I like the many characters and their inter-realationships. This is more like a prime time US adventure drama. There was deadly disease, but the plot line didn’t hinge on it as in other Kdramas. I really liked the action. I’m a little tired of the endless battles and swordplay in period dramas. The more modern setting and contemporary conflicts were a pleasant change. I hope it has a second season, maybe with Bae Doo Na added to the cast.
i’m gonna watch it! despite the low ratings and stuff.
I thk its rather refreshing!
fan of cjw am i. heard many disappointment over aircity, so bought the dvd. nothing wrong with cjw, she is still as good as in all her dramas beautiful days, w. sonata, sw to heaven, rondo, yeonriji. the cast is extremely good, the hero LJJ was perfect match for her. he acting is good, manly and cute. the supporting role cast was good. one big problem, the story line as what many of yu guys have highlighted. terribly lead to no where! i believe mbc knew the problem by now, add in more melodrama, create a main theme for the story line and come back with season 2. it is too painful to end aircity in this manner! the story line similar to HK and Japan drama, which I like but somehow lack of something, somehow! Korean drama should get into a new wave instead the always lovey-dovey storyline which I begin to get fed up with. Love triangle, death, sad story and so on….., and I believe this is what aircity is trying to spice up on the other side of what Korean drama can bring to the world.
i think this is a good drama.refreshing and wow! good lead actor n actress.lol choi ji woo n lee jung jae
Just finished watching Air City. I loved it! LJJ has a gorgeous smile. And disagree with comments that there was no theme to the series. The whole theme is mirrored in the title – Air City ie Life in a modern airport. I would have been bored if it was the typical love quadruple thing like I’ve seen in so many other K dramas. I liked that the 2 leads were very strong and their characters were complex and interesting. I truly hope there’s a season 2 cos I want to see the two of them acting together again in these characters!
I do agree with Heather at some points.
Air City is a true realistic story in a modern living style. And I believe Lee Jung Jae and Choi Ji Woo delivered their characters well in this drama.
However, like somebody, our life is tough enough with lots of matters already. So we love and do expect a happy and beautiful ending to live on.
Thus, I hope there would be season 2 for this drama to please us all.
) I really want to see what going to happen to the two main characters in the very end.
I love Air City; simply love Lee Jung Jae; he’s soooooo gorgeous; but hv to agree with Kay that the ending sucked. Its really sad. I thought it deserved happier ending. Like Kirei, i had thought that LLJ’s character would hv come back for CJW’s character. Now it keeps us guessing…. There is one part which I don’t understand. Perhaps i missed out on an episode?…but i had thought that LJJ’s character had “rejected” the secret mission to russia; got slapped as a result of that; how is it that after he found out about his ex-girlfriend’s illness, he decided to take up the mission? (the scene where he was standing in front of the HQ & he slipped back his ID tag into his pocket) Can someone help ? I’m really “upset” with the ending.
Why could they not improve the english sub-titles. It could really help if undertake the proper translation.
Hey, why not improve the English subtitle. It would help bring in more followers. My wife gets frustrated everytime the sub-titles are all screwed up.
Do you have any collection of the songs from this show? The sad instrumental music that they always play, sort of fast and slow kinda, i dont know if u know which one i m talking about. But do let me know if u happen to have any..
thx ^^
I was really dissapointed with Air City!! Like someone said before even LJJ couldn’t save this drama. I didn’t even bother to finish watching it, i am still stuck on the scene where Ji Woo and her collegues met with LJJ at that island. This scene was suppose to lead up to the kiss between LJJ and JW..but you know I couldn’t even be bothered to watch it!! I like LJJ and thought he was great in AirCity but the drama as a whole was a huge dissapointment. As far as i was concerned, it was a good thing LJJ left the airport to pursue his job, maybe he’ll find a spunky, interesting girl in Egypt to fall in love with!! And LeeJin wook can have JW…they deserve each other. And there is smething about JiWoo’s acting that was so offputting… she was quite wooden in AirCity.. i saw her in Winter Sonata and she was very effective there though her incessant crying in Winter Sonata gave me a massive headache that there were times when I felt like slapping her… but in her attempt to be less emotional in AirCity, she bacame wooden instead! She has this irritating look which she employs to great length, i cant really describe this look, its where she turns all serious and her lips pursed up. I first noticed this look of her in Rondo and she probably thought it was effective that she decided to do it again in Aircity…but it was so irritating.
I have to agree with Lulu. Air City should have a part two series. Perhaps the director could bring a change of air with the ending. I would simply love the see Jung Jae and Ji Woo together again and this time perhaps since Jung Jae was posted to Russia, Jin Wook simply fills the space in Ji Woo’s lonely heart. Wow! That would be great, wouldn’t it?
