Is Yun Eun Hye man enough for you?

cp2.jpg
Yun Eun Hye’s new drama, Coffee Prince is currently dominating the Monday/Tuesday line-up with 19% Nielsen rating. The plot itself isn’t any different from a typical Korean trendy drama (love triangles, chaebols, first love, etc etc), but Yun’s character, Eun Chan adds a fun twist to it, which makes the drama pleasantly entertaining. Yun pretends that she’s a guy, not intentionally, but after an interesting turn of events and she puts up with this gender mistake (?) it in order to provide for her family.

So far, my favorite scenes were her Yun’s eating scenes because they were so unexpectedly funny. In the first episode, she had an eating contest with her younger sister’s boyfriend (?) and she finished five bowls of jajangmyun in one sitting. She ate fried kimchi rice with a spoon spatula at Gong You’s house and she also ate pork off the ground. Honestly, it an overkill to have these excessive eating scenes in almost every episode, but I understand why it’s necessary. Development of Yun’s drag king role is dependent on her undying appetite because it acts as a confirmation that she’s in fact a he, in addition to her flat chest, boyish haircut and tomboy outfits. Do you think that Yun Eun Hye is manly enough to pull off her drag king role until the end?

LOL those scenes were hilarious. but i almost barfed at the scene when she was eating the jja jang myun..i like the scenes where she was in the car with gong you, when she kept telling gong you to apologize, when gong you was in sogaetings with all those weird girls (LOL), and when he peed in front of her cause he thought she was a guy. i love coffee prince, though i must admit the plot isnt any diff. from all those other korean dramas.

I think she’s really good at looking androgynous. I was really surprised because before I had only seen her on old episodes of xman but she looks really great.

  3. 3 Di July 13, 2007 at 2:23 am

I think she’s really convincing as a guy, but still cute! Love this show, gender benders are always funny. ^___^

  4. 4 kiwee July 13, 2007 at 2:43 am

    those eating scenes are disgusting.
but gong you is more of a girl than she is. (personality/character-wise: clings on to first love; looks-wise (though he’s a little more manly than the usual boy band singers))

  5. 5 aly July 13, 2007 at 2:46 am

i have to wait for the subs*cries*
but o well in the first episode she didnt finished all 5 bowls but she made the other guy puke by adding all this stuff into her bowl and talking about things that would make anyone puke
    her sister helped
and then they added yogurt to his bowl
so he ended up puking and she won

I definitely agree…Yoon Eun Hye is doing an amazing job at acting like a guy. Just watching Episode 4, from the way that she walks it’s not too dramatic and frankly the more I watch…the more I see her guyish actions. I think it’s great, and the eating scenes just crack me up.

  7. 7 Lo July 13, 2007 at 2:48 am

xD I kinda liked the jja jang myun eating scene. It made me hungry too. But when it came to pouring her younger sister’s drink on it and yogurt, >_

  8. 8 kiwee July 13, 2007 at 2:50 am

and he has bigger eyes than she does. (that’s gotta be heartbreaking for any korean actress; especially if they paid for theirs.)

  9. 9 tvxq July 13, 2007 at 3:02 am

    well..
i’m not korean, but i ttly love kdramas! this one looks good, but i’m going to have to wait till it’s subbed in english…
do any of you guys know a website w/ eng sub besides youtube?

  10. 10 Lulu July 13, 2007 at 3:06 am

She’s doing an awesome job so far!! She’s so cute and yet so boyish at the same time XD Not a disappointing show at all ;p

  11. 11 lyn July 13, 2007 at 3:09 am

Cross my fingers, I think the drama has a great start, hopefully it doesn’t go downhill like Witch Yoo-Hee or Hello!Miss.

So far I find it light and funny. I think YEH is doing a fantastic job at pretending to be a guy. Her character is technically not going overboard attempting to be manly, but rather being herself. There are several guys I know who look ambiguous. It works. I love her subtleness and the chemistry between her and Gong Yoo.

Thumbs up for me, so far.

  12. 12 amabelle July 13, 2007 at 3:34 am

she is freaking awesome. and this is the best drama i have seen so far.. well based on what i have seen. =)

  13. 13 Nancy July 13, 2007 at 3:41 am

Yoon Eun Hye is one of a the few actresses who can pull of being a guy. Loving the drama so far and Gong Yoo is just plain hot :)

  14. 14 leejunkified July 13, 2007 at 4:11 am

Congrats to YEH “Coffee Prince” is the highest ranked primetime series for its timeslot.

She is an amazing actress. I love how she doesn’t go overboard attempting to be manly.

I like her much better in this series than in Goong.

  15. 15 jihoon July 13, 2007 at 4:35 am

if you go to veoh.com and just type in coffee prince you can watch the first two episodes subbed in english. it has a pic of eun hye and gong yoo and a 1.2 or 1.1 on it! It’s a very cute drama

  16. 16 kawaii July 13, 2007 at 5:30 am

yeah, she looks boyish enough to me. I sometimes forget that she’s actually a girl lol. I love this new drama. It’s so funny and cute :)

  17. 17 bebetama July 13, 2007 at 8:11 am

    Those who didn’t see episode 4 DON’T READ ME^^

HAHA for me the best scene was the one where the old man(coffee prince’s owner)clean his face, his foot, his armpits n his teeth with the same handkerchief HAHA MY GOSH I laugh so HARD^^

THIS drama is so GOOD,Happy that It goes well

  18. 18 wink0o0 July 13, 2007 at 8:38 am

yeah..she is good, but i think her voice should be a little deeper..she trys to have a deep voice, but its not really workin for me..her acting skills are better..she is funny..the drama is good..*cross finger* hopefully it’ll stay good n have a great ending…

  19. 19 Mary July 13, 2007 at 9:11 am

I love this drama. It’s very witty and I find that Yoon Eun Hye makes a convincing enough guy. Especially during the eating scenes where she just pigs out, it’s very similar to how many of my guyfriends eat.

  20. 20 jiwoo July 13, 2007 at 9:12 am

loll “in addition to her flat chest” lolll i havent watched the drama yet but it seems really cool

  21. 21 mei July 13, 2007 at 9:36 am

The jajangmyun eating contest was my favorite scene from the first episode also. Haha. So far I really like this drama and I’m hoping that it doesn’t get too boring in the middle like with Witch Yoo-Hee. Yoon Eun Hye does a great job on her part with her character.

  22. 22 Reetho July 13, 2007 at 10:09 am

    This girl is so talented!

She was so adorable in Goong, and now she is in Coffee Prince, and she plays the role so well, it made me go, “Wait, this character is totally different Goong.”

Hahaha not only that, their hair is super boy-ish. I can’t wait to see her in Goong II!!!

  23. 23 versatileee July 13, 2007 at 10:24 am

i’ve only seen the first two episodes but i’m in love with it already.

  24. 24 Mintea July 13, 2007 at 10:24 am

She should wear more long-sleeve shirts though – her arms are too girly and it gives her away. It’d be funny if she tried spiking her hair or something…

  25. 25 ChristaLuvsDrama July 13, 2007 at 10:54 am

LOL watching this made me so mad. Reason being is because I can’t stand watching ppl eat on television. I can watch a person eat right in front of me and not be aggrivatedly hungry, but if I see ppl on the TV eating GRRRRRRRRRR I sooo want what they’re having. So I paused it and went and ate some Ssam Choo Ssam. Now I’m going to go look for something to eat after looking at her eat jajangmyun grrrr I’m hungry!

  26. 26 me!!! July 13, 2007 at 11:31 am

shes pretty good as a new actress..shes still very fresh, but her acting has gotten better…shes good at actin like a boy, but her voice needs to be a little deeper like WINK0o0 mention…she trys, but its still not there yet..yeah i do agree that she needs to wear long sleeves, her arms are to gurlie…no muscle, no cut, not manly enough..i would like her to spike her hair up..so it will look more like a guy..her hair in the drama is okey, but its kinda for both sex so i would like her to change the hair style to spice it up..

    but shes cute

  27. 27 Liberalis July 13, 2007 at 12:11 pm

    kawaiii…. she’s so cute.

  29. 29 daneil July 13, 2007 at 12:22 pm

i don’t love it but its pretty okay so far =)

her acting, thank god, improved. im happy for her. she always picks the roles that fits her

  30. 30 daneil July 13, 2007 at 12:23 pm

plus LSK and his sexy ass deep voice =D

  31. 31 Dovey July 13, 2007 at 3:12 pm

She sort of has a neutral look to her appearance. To me, she sometimes looks like a guy, but then in other pics she looks like a girl. XD I think she can pull it off. She’s a tough cookie!

  32. 32 chrinstina July 13, 2007 at 6:34 pm

i think she can pull it off because im watching it right now and i gotta say that i love it. she is so funny in this series and still pretty as ever

  33. 33 lennie July 13, 2007 at 7:09 pm

you’d have to be completely blind and DEAF to think she was a 24-yr old guy (i think that’s how old she said she was…), but whatever. she’s still good at pretending to be a guy. if she said she were a 15-year-old boy (pre-puberty??), that would be more believable, though. ;D

  34. 34 Bench July 13, 2007 at 9:05 pm

she was totally great in acting, such a lead role like pretending to be a boy was so hard to portray, She really do her best, and i salute her for that,i already watched the Episode 1-4, even though there wasn’t an English translation, I’m really interested in this drama….Congrats Yoon Eun Hye,,the ratings was boosted,, and also to Gong Yoo,they’re look good to be coupled…Im hoping for their team-up for their next drama..love it…

  35. 35 girl1850 July 14, 2007 at 2:10 am

yeh looked like a korean pretty boy and terrific acting from her.. she’s freaken hilarious lol. she act more like a boy compare to some real korean actor/singers i know….

  36. 36 mihae July 14, 2007 at 2:12 am

after watching the first few episodes, i thought it was pretty cute, but there are parts that i just kind of fast forward through…i get a little bored here and there, but generally cute. but pretty typical..;/

  37. 37 ashley July 14, 2007 at 2:55 am

hahahaa this reminds me of the drama hana kimi ,,if anyone knows..

  38. 38 cUtiEjOy July 14, 2007 at 1:08 pm

  39. 39 han July 14, 2007 at 4:02 pm

  41. 41 jane July 14, 2007 at 5:46 pm

  42. 42 madyjune July 14, 2007 at 7:52 pm

yeah…the plot isn’t that interesting but I like it ‘cuz of Eun Hye but her voice doesn’t sound that manly to me.

  43. 43 madyjune July 14, 2007 at 7:56 pm
