Please dress appropriately for weddings

0716-wding-ajoong4.jpg

Celebrity guests at Park Kyong-rim’s wedding were on the casual side for their choice of wedding attire. Maybe I lean more on the conservative side when it comes to formal occassions, but I think that jeans, shorts, t-shirts or short dresses are not appropriate for such events – especially if there are a bride and her bridesmaids wearing floor length gowns. Also the colors black and white should be a wedding no-no, but almost all the guests chose this theme as their color (except for Jang Na-ra). Ok, that’s fine. I am down with the new rules that say black or white is ok as long as the color doesn’t take away from the bride (i.e. white outfit that looks like a wedding dress) or look like you are going to a funeral. But after covering these formal events and awards here at POPSEOUL!, I am tired of seeing celebs wearing inappropriate attire! When will someone realize there is a time and place for short skirts and jeans?

0716-wding-ajoong2.jpg0716-wding-ajoong1.jpg0716-wding-ajoong.jpg
Kim Ajoong doesn’t look like herself here. When I first saw her picture, it only looked like a slight resemblance of herself. Maybe it’s the harsh daylight? Her top is fine, but the skirt is way too short.

0716-wding-yangpa.jpg
Yangpa doesn’t look like she is going to a funeral, so the black dress is acceptable (can you tell I don’t like black to weddings?)

0716-wding-zojinsung2.jpg0716-wding-zojinsung1.jpg0716-wding-zoinsung.jpg0716-wding-mcmong.jpg
Jo In-sung wears casual white shirt and gray jeans. Maybe he thought they were black, which would make him look like a waiter than a star. Inappropriate.
MC Mong looks like he is the groom on top with the white coat and tie with black shirt but the baggy jeans ruin it.

0716-wding-shinhyesongkangta.jpg
Kangta and Shin Hye-song look fabulous! I bet they are wearing this only because they had to sing.

0716-wding-solbi.jpg
Sol Bi. Does this look like a wedding dress to you? It sorta does.

0716-parkjungah1.jpg0716-parkjungah.jpg
Park Jung-a wearing a gorgeous dress shirt that would be purrfect for work, not for a formal wedding.

0716-wding-ryan.jpg
Ryan of Paran look appropriate on top but who knows what the picture cut off – perhaps jeans? skirt?

0716-wding-parkshiyeon.jpg
Good for a summer day out shopping about town or even for a date, but this is a wedding no-no. cauz it’s too short.

0716-wding-kimminseon1.jpg0716-wding-kimminseon.jpg
Kim Min-sun. The color is gorgeous, the length is fine, but the dress is a bit too baggy. Otherwise, she is one of the better dressed of the celebrity bunch.

0716-wding-kanghyejeong1.jpg0716-wding-kanghyejeong.jpg
Kang Hye-jung. Is that a sweater she is wearing? It was so hot outside today.

0716-wding-jangnara2.jpg0716-wding-jangnara1.jpg0716-wding-jangnara.jpg
Jang Nara look sunny in this bright above-the-knee yellow & back dress.

0716-wding-hyun-young2.jpg0716-wding-hyun-young1.jpg0716-wding-hyun-young.jpg
Hyun Young looks decent in this dress and we can forgive her for the slightly short dress since her legs are so long, she probably has a difficult time looking for a dress that fits properly. However, considering her age, this cutesy empire dress would look better on a 20 year old.

0716-wding-hyori.jpg0716-wding-hyori5.jpg0716-wding-hyori4.jpg0716-wding-hyori3.jpg0716-wding-hyori2.jpg0716-wding-hyori1.jpg
Lee Hyori, is that a t-shirt underneath your dress? This short shift is almost passable with the large buttons in the front, but it ain’t that flattering. Pass.

0716-wding-hwanhee1.jpg0716-wding-hwanhee.jpg
Hwanhee looks hot in those shades and we will forgive him for loosenin’ them buttons…

0716-wding-hwangbora-hanhyoju.jpg
Hwang Bo-ra is bor-ing. Han Hyo-ju is ok, but she looks like Hyun Young’s twin sister.

0716-wding-hidinck.jpg
Ex-coach of Korea’s National Soccer Team and honorary citizen of Korea, Guus Hiddinck and gf.

0716-wding-eugene1.jpg0716-wding-eugene.jpg0716-wding-bada1.jpg0716-wding-bada.jpg
Eugene and Bada are forgiven for wearing jeans and shorts because one of them is the bridesmaid.

0716-wding-chayehrin.jpg
Cha Yeh-rin wears another boring black dress on a hot summer day. Yawn.

0716-wding-chataehyun.jpg
Cha Tae-hyun looks good on top, but I wonder what’s on the bottom?

0716-wding-chaeyeon2.jpg0716-wding-chaeyeon1.jpg0716-wding-chaeyeon.jpg
Chae Yeon. Good to see her wear some clothes, but she looks like a waitress in this outfit.

    skirt. LOL.

  3. 3 Kana July 17, 2007 at 10:32 am

I agree that the jeans were inappropriate, especially ripped ones – it’s a wedding, not a fashion photoshoot. However, as long as the skirts and dresses aren’t revealing underwear and they’re tasteful and smart casual/formal, as most of these are, IMHO, then I don’t see any problems with it.

Re: flamewar – it’s a blog, meaning the writer’s personal opinions are supposed to be expressed! If you don’t agree with it, it’s not that hard to find another blog to read.

I like Ajoong’s outfit and isn’t that a sqort? I could of sworn I saw someone where that in black and it was a sqort. Though I like it, but it is a wedding and I agree that too much leg is showing here. (I want that for me hehe, but black) I have to say the best outfit for a girl is Jang Na-ra unni, I luv that dress. You rarely get to see someone pull off yellow and have it look good. For a guy I’d say Shin Hye-song. Woh! He looks hmmmm HOT! Also, out of which are the bridesmaid? Eugene or Bada?? When will Bada take out that Ajumma perm?(off subject lol) You Eugene always has this conservative look in dramas, despite that being the total opposite when you see her MV’s or pic on in a mag. I hope she picks a role where I can see her dress up than down. hahaha so random. Komawoyo for posting POPSEOUL!

Eek.. well, they really should dress appropriately to a formal event. Stars or not.

LoL, I was laughing at Popseoul’s comment on KangTa and Hyesung being the few ones dressed spiffy because they had to sing. XD Oh well, at least they’re dressed properly.

  6. 6 haerim July 17, 2007 at 1:16 pm

whoaaa so many comments. but i think kim ah joong looked strange cuz her nose looks a LOT bigger…

  7. 7 Hannah July 17, 2007 at 1:23 pm

    wow you’re right
    most of these are BAD
unless kyunglim told them to dress like this…

  8. 8 Eun. July 17, 2007 at 5:40 pm

Anything above the knee is regarded as a little bit too much skin for a formal wedding. (There’s a certain amount of emphasis on the word ‘formal.’) Kim Ajoong’s outfit works really well together, but it is a little but much for a wedding. I think popseoul’s comments are pretty rationale.

I don’t understand why there’s such an argument over celebrities and fashion and etc. Really, now. Before splashing on about modernity and whatnot, seriously consider fashion in its context.

    it was awesome!!

Chae Yeon. Good to see her wear some clothes, but she looks like a waitress in this outfit.

u have to say something bad about her dont u man get alife O.K besides u know she is way better than some how do pole dancing and wear revealing clothes to get attention that is why she is the best sexy singer and her clothe here is lovely

    CHAE YEON Fighting

  11. 11 Fobbiyo July 18, 2007 at 3:17 pm

you should have added Dongwan. He was there, and he looked hot

  12. 12 popseoul July 19, 2007 at 1:40 am

oops- eugene was NOT a bridesmaid- so her casual outfit of jeans and cropped top is a definite no-no. Dang, that’s disrespect!!!

  13. 13 meme July 19, 2007 at 6:51 am

except Kang Hye-jung, and Eugune they look fine to me! who cares about the short skirts? they r celebrities people not ordinary people they r different! so yea… just my opinion! dnt kill me!

  14. 14 Vy July 20, 2007 at 11:25 am

I thought that weddings should be formal…

  15. 15 dk July 20, 2007 at 2:55 pm

I can only assume by reading all of the comments on this page that not many people have been to a wedding in Korea. Everyone should realize that a wedding in korea is an informal event unless it is specified as a black-tie occasion… this goes for both 연예인s and the public alike. There is typically no need to be in proper attire for events like these since they don’t hold as much importance as they do in the US or any other parts of the world. Cultural differences I suppose. I’ve been to a few weddings in Korea myself, and like steadyhectic stated, everyone is in informal attire, using cellphones, etc. A wedding is more for “show” then anything else… “a perfect time to take pictures” as a relative of mine said. Hell, even the woman who catches the bouquet is predetermined, which just says a lot about marriage in Korea.

And before I forget, I’m strictly talking about “Westernized” traditions like these, with the typical bride, groom, priest, aisle, westernized wedding dress, tux, etc.

  16. 16 hazelrain- July 20, 2007 at 3:33 pm

this is crazy… how can these celebs wore these type of clothings! impolite that is! but o well… at least we know that they’re not as smart as us who knows the meaning of “manner” is!

  17. 17 kpopfosho July 21, 2007 at 3:09 am

dang, the natural lighting is NOT working so well for some of the celebs. haha!

  18. 18 Dirty Basement July 21, 2007 at 6:56 pm

Is this your first time seeing pix of a Korean wedding? It’s not the end of the world. Celebs usually dress casual. Park Kyung Lim herself has dressed casual when attending other people’s weddings.

  19. 19 super grl July 22, 2007 at 11:29 am

i hope i see hyolee’s wedding soon ‘cuz she is getting older
    haha

  20. 20 anony July 22, 2007 at 3:33 pm

its not a grammy’s event for god’s sake… do you expect everyone to turn out in gowns?

people nowadays dress how they like to any event, celebrities included.

  21. 21 Jackie July 23, 2007 at 5:23 am

Who cares! People are individuals with their own style and choice of dress! You should be happy people come to support you at your wedding and stop judging them based on their dress. I dont think a merely dressing casual is a huge problem.

  22. 22 Kai July 23, 2007 at 12:55 pm

thanks for the pictures and for all the work. i really apreciate it ^^. your site is one of the few ways that i have to know what’s going on with ‘celebs’ in korea.
    i
saw the pictures of kang ho dong’s wedding and the guests were as informal as in pkl’s wedding. maybe it’s hard to understand for us, yo know, it’s all about culture.

and… maybe it’s “fuera de lugar” (don’t know how to say that in english… ‘out of place’ maybe? sorry! i’m chilean and my english isn’t that good) but i’ve noticed that you always have something bad to say about chae yeon. too much criticism i think. she seems to be such a cool person and she’s always ‘wearing some clothes’. one thing is people on the stage and other is people in their normal life.
    give her a break.
ok, i understand that it’s your opinion and i respect it, really. but maybe you should try to be more “objetivo” (partial?) in your comments.

that’s all… thanks for the hard work!!

  23. 23 J July 23, 2007 at 1:57 pm

Jen, uh wow, put down the knife! Although I quite agree with you on your point, uh, I mean, not knife point. You know what I mean! ~wink

  24. 24 iya July 24, 2007 at 4:20 pm

ppl should dress appropriately for weddings. i agree.

i saw a coverage on the pre-wedding stuff on morning live…but never saw the wedding stuff like these.

  25. 25 mylove July 26, 2007 at 7:20 am

    yea..
I know.. people should dress appropriately for the weddings
    I agree with u in that but…
what up with saying to chae yeon that “good to see her wearing some clothes”?????????
I know her outfit is not really fit for the wedding but she look fine and she always wears some clothes..
I know u r not fan of chae yeon (since u always post bad things abt her and u barely post things abt her) but try to respect others who r fan of chae yeon and chae yeon herself..
maybe celeb have no time to pick out a right outfit for the wedding..
even sometime i dont look right and I hate myself for doing that of wearing that..
they r busy people.. and they just want to attend to their friends wedding..
    popseoul I respect ur opinion and u r great…
but sometime u might want to watch what u saying coz a lot of ppl have their own opinion..

  26. 26 grace July 27, 2007 at 6:44 am

Wow. People, this is Popseoul’s blog. If you dont like what she says about cheyeon,(aka. her opinion) dont read it.

She has no obligation to you to edit herself.

  27. 27 yujinn July 29, 2007 at 5:07 am

i personally didn`t think anything was wrong with any of those outfits.

  28. 28 kim July 29, 2007 at 1:39 pm

I’ve been noticing for a while that people in korea don’t seem to dress up for weddings. It might be a cultural thing.

In united states dressy too casual for a wedding is considered rude I would say.

  29. 29 sam July 31, 2007 at 3:19 pm

me too – this is something i’ve noted alot of k celebrity weddings – no one ever dresses exceptionally well??? more than half the stars look like they were rushed out of some drama shoot or music studio to show up for the ceremony 10 minutes after the wedding started. i guess we’re all disappointed by north american standards, but it seems like the norm in korea??

  30. 30 Sei August 3, 2007 at 8:18 am

This is just my silly opinion and I don’t mean to offend anyone with it but when I saw Bada’s picture I thought she was some Nerdy guy with bad fitting shorts and bushy hair that hadn’t been tamed…

  31. 31 sisi August 14, 2007 at 12:54 am

i was just wondering why yoon eun hye wasn’t there? because they seemed pretty closed in xman

  32. 32 Nivvv_ August 14, 2007 at 5:13 am

I dont think what you said is right of what dk and some other people said are true(im not korean so i dont know) then they dont need to wear formal stuff… but yeah some skirts were too short but i dont understand how oyu can say ajoongs skirt was way too short and say han hyo joos wasnt i know its your blog but thats just… strange!!! its obvious you like her more…… i mean common her dress is not a milimetre longer!!! actually you can even see that ajoongs was longer! omg that was just unbelievable and about chae yeon… you always say mean things abpout her! anyway i guess its your blog so cant do anything about it…
    just stating my opinion

  33. 33 noname August 15, 2007 at 12:49 am

why isnt yoon eun hye there?? hey and yoon eun hye were good friends in Xman i believe..

  37. 37 irees August 28, 2007 at 12:52 pm

dude. popseoul, you’ve hit it right on the spot. what were they thinking?! but i’ve gotta point out… bada’s hair is hideous. and kim ajoong looks old.

  38. 38 ljxxv September 6, 2007 at 5:07 am

i love reading the comments here in popseoul specially if it\’s getting nasty ^-^

  39. 39 Alisha September 7, 2007 at 3:20 pm

That’s the first wedding that I saw has informal attires. If I was the bride, I would rather have everyone dress formally. It’s a wedding, not those summer BBQ party. But then again, maybe it’s a difference in culture, but for most weddings in Asia (not counting Korea since someone mentions that casual is normal in weddings) and other countries as well, people tend to dress nice for the special occasion which does not include ripped jeans.

  40. 40 Jane. September 11, 2007 at 3:51 am

How the hell did this post in July get back on Top Posts? Anyways, this isn’t America dearies. These weddings are in Korea. I’ve noticed that not only in KCeleb weddings, but that in most weddings in Korea people are dressed semi-formal- but not to the point of casual. So it doesn’t matter if its considered rude in America, who gives a shit? Thats a whole different country with different customs&culture.

kim Ajoong is so ugly chick…and lee hyori is a arogant woman

Was there more celebrities invited? And is there a video of there wedding?

  44. 44 Rebecca December 23, 2007 at 3:43 am

“I can only assume by reading all of the comments on this page that not many people have been to a wedding in Korea. Everyone should realize that a wedding in korea is an informal event unless it is specified as a black-tie occasion…”

Ditto that. Weddings from different parts of the world have different levels of significance. To judge from your preconceived notions of what a wedding “should” be like is to be more disrespectful, I would think. Unless it’s YOUR wedding, there’s little point in criticism, and several people have already gone the “if it was MY wedding, this would never happen” route.

Aside from that, shouldn’t the sentiment count for more than appearances? If so many people came out in casual wear, it suggests that they didn’t think it would offend the bride & groom. Someone other than the bride wearing white on the wedding day – do people realize that white has been the color of mourning for thousands of years in Asian countries? Different times, different cultures, different standards. And celebrity culture counts too – they have standards we expect them to abide by, too.

  45. 45 cutiehoney February 14, 2008 at 11:49 am

i think everyone dressed nice. it matched their looks.

  46. 46 A Girl From Arabia March 28, 2008 at 3:54 am

    Ooooooo MY GOD

here in the middle-east we wear the most expensive most breathtaking dresses when we attend weddings.

even Korean celebrities on the red carpet do not wear as beautiful dresses as we wear in weddings!

google the word “فساتين” and you’ll see simple examples of dresses Arab girls wear when we they go to weddings.

    I mean what the hell!!!

are u guys serious?? are they attending a wedding or a funeral?

I don’t even wear that hideous outfits when I go to my friend’s birthday party!!!

  47. 47 person that hates you June 29, 2008 at 10:36 pm

no offense, but do you live in like the past?
i think everyone’s wedding outfit is perfectly
fine. you just have no sense in fashion.. i think
the skirt lengths were perfectly fine, and it’s
your problem if you think black shouldnt be worn
to weddings, because it looks fine to me, and
probably to other people. & you think you know
it all, but to breath the truth to ya, you suck
at describing. and you describe like we agree with
you or something because everyone looks beautfiful
and fine. and probably your just jealous you cant
be as pretty, or even afford clothes like that.
    worry about yourself..
