Rain creates Rainy Entertainment

0804-rain2.jpg

Yup, you read that right. Rain’s “temporary” company is called Rainy Entertainment. This just confirms that the shrimp eyed pop star does not understand the importance of a good name. Not only did he debut with the gayest name on the planet – Bi, but he’s also going to name his first company Rainy Entertainment!  The name speaks for itself.

Rainy Ent. was officially incorporated on June 29th and currently there are mixed reports about the purpose of the company. There are many speculators who believe that Rainy Entertainment will focus on music production, distribution and celebrity management. They also believe Rainy will be managed by Rain’s dad since he recently quit his job.

On the other hand, Rainy Entertainment reps insist that this is only a “temporary” company and that he’ll clear everything when he comes back in Seoul. Rain sure has a lot of clearing up to do when he comes back to Seoul middle of this month. Good thing that he can actually speak the language to back himself up.

you guys seem to hate rain.

  2. 2 FUNNY FACT 2: BOA = SEX August 7, 2007 at 9:30 am

Just as BI is a play on words implying BI-SEXUAL to market BI/RAIN as be androgenous to a larger audience

BOA referring to BOA Constrictor, is also a play on words for BOA (the singer) to gain a larger male & female audience.

A Boa Constrictor (one of the largest snakes) is a fallic symbol for a large male p-nis. It is a the sexual reference which implies that BOA (the singer) is very sexual.

The marketing of the name BOA present a subliminal message of sex that strategically tapS into a person’subconscious. BOA = P-NIS = SEX which drawns an appeal of boys and girls to BOA.

This is similar to the marketing campaign of Camel Cigarettes where the animated Joe Camel when turned upside down looks like a p-nis. Joe Camel was always with beautiful women. So the message here was Camel Cigarettes = sex. Do a google search for JOE Camel to see.

Some of you will doubt it because BOA was very young when she started. But let me remind you she was marketed more for JAPAN. Japanese Men like young girls (kogul), because most Japanese men are deficient in their masculinity. Therefore, to a young girl as BOA (the singer), they feel more masculine like a BOA, when actually they have a little water snake. Anyhow, that’s the story behind BOA’s name.

what is so “gay” about the name “bi/rain”?? personally, im just thankful that he didnt choose “se7en” (jeans brand) or worse, “50 cent” for his stage name. and if he wants to make it to the US, than why is everyone saying he should keep his original name “jung ji hoon”. trust me he could not go out in the US music industry with a name like that b/c 1) many americans will have problems pronouncing that and 2) there are many americans who do not like asian languages/cultures…

as for XiaoXi saying that the US is not closed to asians…thats true in the movie industry. americans do not mind seeing an occasional exotic movie or exotic face on tv. but have you seen any of these people win an oscar?? and i really doubt that many white or black americans are looking forward to an asian singer to come along. it will be difficult for rain or se7en to make it big in the american music industry. i especially highly doubt se7en (sorry, no offense se7en fans) b/c he is not as firmly established in the asian market as rain, his name sucks, and his dances are more a rip off of american r&b artists.

  5. 5 XiaoXi August 7, 2007 at 1:30 pm

Sorry, Angie. I disagree completely! Not only is America open to Asian musicians, they’re open to Asian musicians who aren’t fluent in English AND don’t necessarily sing in total English! They just need a unique sound.

I think Asians are their own worst enemy when it comes to the States–they convince themselves that America is some mysterious place and then self-limit their exposure.

I know the media talks about how closed minded Americans are, but that’s a load of it. There is no other country in the world that is as open and accepting of other people than Americans.

I really think Rain can make it in America because:

    1. He has an amazing voice (he needs to lose the gimmicks and just use that voice); he does (or JYP had him) imitate already established performers way too much–he needs to find his own style…

    2. He is tall and very handsome, in a natural way–he hasn’t had surgery to make himself into something “more western”

    3. He is very charismatic on the screen; having a second way to expose himself to Americans just gives them more ways to become interested

    4. He has the confidence–or at least he did before JYP and StarM screwed him over with the US concerts–to tell people to go $&(*&@$ themselves when they try to tell him he can’t do something he really wants to do

    5. He has the money–from his success in Asia–to create his own projects in the west; he doesn’t have to wait for someone to create opportunities, he can make his own…

I hope his time in LA and with the film crew in Berlin has given him some contacts in Hollywood. If he has some really first class American PR people who really understand the US, there’s no reason he can’t make it here. I say 5 years–if he really wants it and can keep his confidence up. If he gets tired, there’s nothing wrong with skipping the west and just being a super-star in Asia–it’s a bigger market anyway.

I think overall, a lot of people here are being very immature and conceited. People may think I’m being very biased because I am a fan of Bi, but seriuosly, read over what almost all of you are saying. It’s ridiculous and immature.

First of all, to those who say Bi/Rain is a gay name. Everyone has their own opinion and I shall respect yours, but do not crush the people who love that name because you people who make fun of the name Bi, calling it “Bi-Sexual” are actually insulting the beauty of the Korean language. This really disturbs me, not only because I am Korean-American myself, but, no matter what, you shouldn’t be insulting another culture/background like that. That is one of the rudest things you could do. Also, on top of that, I am sure that it is appreciated that you name other weird names the music industry has provided with us, but those are all meaningful in some way, and if not, at least it sticks to you and you know it because something about it is unique.

Bi means Rain. PERIOD. final statement. There is no definition for Bi. Why? Because he is 100% Korean and his name is Korean. Sure, many of us may rather him calling himself by his real name, but that is his choice and that is his concern. RESPECT IT.

    My thoughts on “Rainy Entertainment”:
I’ve heard from connections that JYP doesn’t treat Rain as nice as what you see out there on tv. Normally that is all for show, like the whole music industry is. It is all FOR SHOW. I’m actually not sure if Bi is ready to open his own entertainment. I am a fan of his and yes, he did get a lot better at singing and he is amazing at acting, but I still believe that he has a lot more to go and learn in life. He is still young and youthful, but then that’s my own opinion.

  7. 7 confused August 7, 2007 at 2:27 pm

Rainy Entertainment eh? I have my doubts as well. But if this is the way Rain wants to go…best of luck to him! As for the name…

hehe it is kinda funny. :)

if he does have good american pr reps who understands how things work and back him up…yeah. I could see things happen for him.

Xiaoxi – I think you forgot one thing. He can’t speak English. That is NOT in his favour. But I do “somewhat agree” with your last sentence. I think he should just forget about the USA market and stay in Asia. There’s lots of money to be made here. I see his Asian fans going all over for him ie. Berlin Film Festival, LA concert. But I do not even see 5 Americans showing up at his gigs in Asia.

  11. 11 angie August 8, 2007 at 2:31 am

XiaoXi i respect your opinion but i cannot help but disagree with you and agree with “amused”. rain can never make it in the US if he cannot speak english. in america, if you can speak english, then you are treated like sh**. trust me, i know b/c when i moved here from korea, nobody took my family seriously b/c of our lack of english skills. and even though i really like rain, i know that many non-asian americans will not find him charismatic or handsome. i know america is one of, if not the most, liberal countries in the world. however, that does not mean that everyone is liberal and open to new asian music entertainers. i go to a all-girls, predominantly white school, and trust me, many of those girls have no respect for asians, and many of them would only laugh at rain.

nevertheless, i like rain. i personally dont think his music/voice is that amazing, but his dance moves are just about the best in the world. i also find him cute and charming. but unfortunately, i do think he should just stay in asia. hopefully in the future, an asian american who can speak english will garner respect in the american music market–and consequently the world music market.

  12. 12 angie August 8, 2007 at 2:34 am

oops. on my last post on the second sentence i made a typo :( here it is cleaned up:

“rain can never make it in the US if he cannot speak english. in america, if you can’t speak english, then you are treated like sh**. “

  13. 13 geekgirl August 8, 2007 at 3:02 am

Getting back to the orignal topic ….

Why is Rain creating a “temporary” company? That sounds kinda fishy to me. Who creates a “temporary” company and for what purpose? Most business people would want their company to prosper and to grow.

    hmmm ….

  14. 14 You May Have Something August 8, 2007 at 6:56 am

Love the name Rain…love the name Jung Ji-Hoon more. Rainy Entertainment? Not so good…think of another name. As for a gay Rain-JYP relationship….I doubt it on Rain’s part. However, JYP is questionable. He looks like a gay control freak to me. I wouldn’t be surprised if JYP came on to Rain and was refused by Rain…..

  16. 16 Dirty Secrets Behind the Biz August 8, 2007 at 9:46 am

I was a teen idol in a major Asia Market in the late 80’s and early 90’s. My company had both teen boys and girls under contract. We were all up and coming actors/actresses at the time.

Anyhow, I was at fan club party when the Press came up to me as asked me, why my company wasn’t pushing my career more. He told me a story, and eventually said if I want to make it BIG that I’d have to “CLOSE MY EYES” sometimes.

I was to naive to understand what he meant, so I asked him straight out, and then he told me that I would eventually have to sleep with men (from the biz) to make it Big. I was shocked. I knew there were a lot of closet gay men in the business, but I didn’t think it would affected me since I was so young.

Other the otherhand, I knew a lot of the young teen actresses who were sleeping with directors. Sadly, competition in the biz for girls is very tough. Since, you are only as good as your last film and the public easily forgets you, most actresses would do most anything to booked their next film because there is always new talent to replace you. This also applies to guys, but not as bad.

Anyhow, I’m not saying that Bi did or didn’t. I’m just saying it is a reality and depending on how bad someone wants the fame & fortune, they will do anything to get there.

I choose not to and I left my company shortly after that and returned to the university (after 3 yrs). I was lucky because I had options, however others do not and will do whatever it takes to succeed.

I understand their situation, and kudos to them for succeeding and helping their family financially, but it all comes with a price, especially in Asia.

  17. 17 XiaoXi August 8, 2007 at 1:32 pm

So many good comments on this thread!

Amused and Angie, I certainly respect your opinion. You have experienced first hand the difficulties of making a life for yourself in a foreign country (I’ve done that, too, for awhile, and it IS hard!).

But where I disagree is that this is NOT what Rain is trying to do. He does need to be able to speak some English (for interviews) and record some music in English and definitely be able to film movies in English–but all that is do-able by Rain now, with the ability he has.

    Let me make two points:
I didn’t see very many white folks at the LA concert either. I knew some folks would try to use that to prove that “Americans are too closed to an Asian superstar.” But let me tell you, there was absolutely NO promotion for the LA concert in any non-Asian media (and barely any promotion at all, but that’s another story!). Contrast that to this summer’s tour by The Police. Everyone in America already knows The Police and a lot of their music. Yet, every radio station I listened to was running some kind of promotion for their upcoming concert: giving away CDs, giving away concert tickets, “Sunday Police Day” of all Police music all day. There were also lots and lots of ads for the concerts in the paper, paid placement for front page listing on TicketMaster’s webpage, etc. That is how you sell a concert in America. I don’t know if you dealt with V2B Global for the LA concert but they didn’t have a clue–they totally hosed the advance ticket sale and then, later, the VIP ticket sale. They didn’t do ANY promotion until only a few days before the concert, and then only in Asian-language media. I only knew about the concert because I stumbled across the Rain-USA official Rain site a week before the tickets went on sale. So, really, whose fault is it that there were so few white people at the LA concert???

Second, at the school I work at in CA, all the girls are nuts about DBSK right now–these are mostly white girls (and a few hapas and a couple of Asian girls)–and I mean nuts! How much English do the guys in DBSK know? I don’t know, but I do know that is not why the girls a ga-ga about them.

Yes, there are lots of folks in the US that won’t be interested in Rain, just like there are lots of folks that don’t like Rap or Country or R&B or Pop. But there are still stars of each of those genres.

Anyway, we could go around and around about this–all of us making valid points, but the truth is, until someone has the cajones to try, we’ll never know for sure. Let me just say that every superstar in the US happened because someone didn’t listen to someone else saying “you can’t do that, no one will want you”–from Nat King Cole, Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, lots of rappers, etc., etc., etc. Either Rain will make it happen–I really think he can–or he’ll decide it is not worth the effort. I really hope he goes for it (though, sorry, I don’t see dancing as being that big of a deal in the US…it will be the singing/acting–maybe even modeling).

Re: Dirty Secrets Behind the Biz:

Thanks for the inside scoop. I guess I’m not surprised, but it is still really sad. The way JYP goes about finding his “trainees” (poor, desperate, parentless, vulnerable young children) is so very, very similar to how pedophiles go about finding their victims. JYP then removes these children from their homes for long periods of time–who looks out for these kids?

This isn’t new or limited to Korea, though, if what I’ve heard before is true. Unfortunately, there always seems to be people around to take advantage of the innocents.

Glad you got out! Thanks for enlightening the rest of us.

  19. 19 amused August 8, 2007 at 4:30 pm

Xiaoxi – I have no doubt that he can do movies in English … which is what he is doing for speed racer. But he memorized the script. He also used a script (yes, word for word each time – I went to quite a few gigs and at one point, I could recite what he was going to say) for ALL his Rain’s Coming gigs outside Korea and Japan (in Japan, he used the same script except that it was in Japanese). I have no doubt he can handle a few sentences in English but a 10 minute interview in English? I don’t think so. And this is what he needs to work on.

I’m waiting for him to “clear the air” once he’s back in Korea and I look forward to reading a translation of what he says :P .

    It´s not Rain´s comany.
From Herald media: “About the rumour ‘Rain setup his own company after being independent, and the company is Rainy Entertainment’, it isn’t truth. It is a rumour without any evidence.” The relevant personnel explained. “In fact, Rain’s father started up this company and managed it before Rain left his ex-agency, JYPE.”

Re: Dirty Secrets Behind the Biz- it´s the same problem all over the world. My daughter wanted to make it in the japanese music market and she gave up her dreams because of this “dirty secrets”.

I see that Rain has signed on to help with an MTV effort to stop human trafficking in Asia (child prostitution, etc.).

I would really like to see Rain (and some other famous folks) put together a talent agency to promote young talent without exposing these young stars-to-be to sexual abuse.

Maybe if he could bring about this change in Korea, stars in other countries would follow suit and then kids like your daughter, Taebin, can shine with having to be traumatized first.

I have a gut feeling that Rain knows first-hand what a horrible problem this is…how wonderful would it be if he was the person to expose and kill this “dirty litte secret.”

What a legacy that would be…

Okay…look Bi is NOT a GAY NAME! It means Rain in Korean just in case your stupid brain doesn’t know that. And what’s wrong with the name Rainy Entertainment? It’s sound really cool, not like your name, even thought I don’t know your name but I’m pretty sure it suck like dick.

Man this site is nothing but full of shits, lies and haters! You got to understand that Rain had come a long way to who he is and ya just write s*** about him like he’s not human. Man, I hope one day, a person will write s***s in ya site and insult you like an animal.

And f*** all ya people who said that Bi is a gay name! It’s an awesome name!

  31. 31 Gay Men Love Rain Too! August 10, 2007 at 5:49 am

What’s wrong if Rain is Bi or Gay. There are many teenage boys and men that love Rain just as much as you do. Stop trying to claim that he is all yours. We have the same dreams, fantasies, & love for Rain as you.

You are just as much as a hater as everyone else. Learn to share your idol, cuz the boy is ours too. You don’t know Rain, as we know Rain.

  32. 32 XiaoXi August 10, 2007 at 6:06 am

Yeah, I’ve got to say I’ve never understood the indignity fans take at any suggestion Rain might be gay (geez the fact that a Gay music site listed Rain’s music sent fans into a tizzy! Hey, we need all the fans we can get to make Rain a star in the US–who cares about their personal life???).

No one–not you, not me, not anyone–but Rain knows what his orientation is and it’s not anyone’s business.

Would you admire him any less if it turns out he is gay? If the answer is “yes” you need to look at yourself, you’re the one with a problem.

Isn’t it about time to retire “he’s gay” as the worst insult you can come up with???

  33. 33 annie August 15, 2007 at 10:01 am

i heard that bis concerts were cancelled because of the conflicts between the US’ and korea’s stage management..

bi need to use visuals(videos, photos, etc.) in his concert but the US wouldnt allow for him to set up the video screen on stage..as well as other specific needs..
all the US gave to bi and his company were lights and a stage..
well at least thats what i saw on tv..the document they did on rain :/

  34. 34 XiaoXi August 15, 2007 at 2:45 pm

The US requires electronics used on stage to be UL-Rated, for safety. StarM/JYPE did not ensure the equipment met those safety standards.

For as much money as everyone was throwing around, there were a lot of things left unchecked. Pretty careless!

O.k., I’ve got to ask again: why is “gay” the biggest insult you can come up with??? And if it turns out Rain is gay, are you going to start hating him? He ain’t sleeping with me (darn it) so I don’t care what he is–of all the things about him, his sexual orientation is probably the least important. Find something else to insult people with!

wow i dont really understand all the criticism that rain is receiving..
sure, his company made a big mistake, but there really is no need to go ahead and criticize rain for everything.

i mean, there were problems with the stage management and all, explaining that it was not rain who decided at the last moment to cancel his concerts..

and he did apologize, so whats really to stress over? :/
i feel bad, honestly that they had to cancel the concerts, but its not rain who decides whether his concerts go on or not. :/
