This model turned actor’s head got so big over past two years that producers are having a hard time pleasing this hard to get player. Joo Ji Hoon decided to leave the drama Hong Gil-dong only a week before production because Olive Nine, local drama production house and Joo couldn’t agree on the financial terms of the contract. Olive Nine offered him a financial package similar to his latest drama, The Devil, but Joo wanted what Yun Eunhye was getting in Coffee Prince, estimated at US $20,000 per episode.
After Joo Ji Hoon’s announcement, Jo Hyun Jae also left the drama. Jo accepted the supporting role in Hong Gil-dong because of Joo’s “star power,” but as Joo left the drama, that supporting role became meaningless to him.
Joo & Jo are actively seeking out new drama roles while producers of Hong Gil-dong are hastily trying to cast these roles before the camera starts rolling. Hong Gil-dong is expected to air sometime in November on KBS2.

It’s you who did because upon analyzing your comments, you have shown more sympathy than logic for either defending (or persecuting, on my part) Ji-Hoon. There are so many Korean Superstars who hasn’t demanded such big amount and yet are able to receive those.

well I think his acting is not that great i didn’t really like his performance in the devil although Goong was entertaining and i admit that i liked him a lot in it(mainly his appearance not much his acting) but now he is like totally skinny i mean a man is supposed to carry some muscles on him……well back to what i wanted to say i prefer kang ji hwan a million times over joo ji hoon not only is he good looking the man is an excellent actor…he can throw himself totally into any role (really liked him in capital scandal) and NOW that he is going to be in it i am so looking forward to the series even if yuri is in it (not much of her fan….her acting is not great although hope she improved)
i’m thankful that joo ji hoon decided not to take this role whether it was because he got a big head or whether it was his management’s fault. I have a pretty good tolerance for bad acting but I can’t take joo ji hoon’s wooden acting. And i love the hong sisters’ dramas- it would have been agony watching a good story ruined by horrible acting. watching the Hong Gil Dong drama now,- i don’t think Joo Ji Hoon could have acted goofy, funny, and energetic enough to be Hong Gil Dong. Kang Ji Hwan was a perfect choice!
but i do still wonder at the decision not to take this drama. The hong sisters’ are pretty well known now for making some highly likable dramas and all their leads ended up getting more offers for roles after being in their dramas…i would have thought that the trade-off- lower salary for a fresh script created by writers who had put out some very popular dramas- would have been pretty good. this could have been the drama to propel him further into stardom.

as far as i am concerned, the financial part of this article doesn’t really affect me at all. what affects me is that he backed out one week after production! ONE WEEK! I mean, no consideration at all. he really didn’t think about the money they spent training him and stuff. that’s really low of him…
I’m really not a fan of him neither fancy about him but Goong is fun to watch for despite he is a new actor at that time.
But he is really outstanding in The Devil, a pyschological thriller but I didnt like him or his chracter but people said he improve a lot in the drama and has won many people heart who didnt like him.

IF THEY TURNED OUT TO DO “HONG GIL-DONG” THE DRAMA SERIES MIGHT’VE FLOP BIG TIME. JOO JI HOON’S FACE DOESN’T FIT TO DO COMEDY ANYWAY. HIS FACE HAS A RIGID ESSENCE KINDA-LIKE “Ryuzaki” OR “Light Yagami” CHARACTERS IN “DEATH NOTE”.

i totally agree with shin goon, he needs more money, i mean he’s a terrific actor, check out goong, highest ratings second to jumong. He’s talented, and he has a right to ask for a raise, he’s not being haughty, he’s being honest with his talent and what he can do. I think he’s one of the best Korean actors i have ever seen act, and he deserves the money and credit for, so please people, stop hating on him just cause he asked for more money, he has TALENT, why should it matter to you people anyway?
