Will The Legend become an international hit?

0831-legend-thenexthallyu.jpg

The producers of The Legend are banking on Bae Yong Joon’s ajumma power and DBSK’s teeny bopper power to make the historical-fantasy fusion drama, The Legend an international hit. But this overworked hype before any production makes me weary since many dramas fail to live up to it. We’ll have to see how this drama unfolds, but I can already foresee a turn of events, where The Legend is only popular among Japanese ajummas and some low budgeted drama rise up in the ranks.

The Legend will air on September 12th on MBC and DBSK will sing the theme song

Pop in:
Bae Yong Joon is back with The Legend

Agree about the overworked hype. And this drama has been postponed too many times. By the time it finally airs, it’s like “So what? Who cares?” I would watch this in a heartbeat if BYJ wasn’t the lead. But since he is, I have zero interest in it.

  2. 2 vanessaly August 31, 2007 at 9:36 pm

Dont care about the drama, but I love DBSK……Hwaiting!!

  3. 3 Dumpling August 31, 2007 at 9:41 pm

Bae Yong Joon looks a little like Gackt in these Legend posters.

Assuming the drama turns out to be good, I will be buying this one as soon as it is released with subtitles at YesAsia or some other source. I love historical movies/period pieces and Bae Yong Joon is not a bad actor nor hard to look at.

  4. 4 lazybum August 31, 2007 at 9:46 pm

    lol, i love their formula:

    teeny boppers + ajumma = win 8D

  5. 5 Jane August 31, 2007 at 9:55 pm

Whenever see the word “teeny boppers” I feel like some grandma/pa is saying it. Lmao

  6. 6 greenness August 31, 2007 at 9:58 pm

will give this show a try… i am a sucker for period drama….but am not really too fond of “you know who”.

  7. 7 junsufan August 31, 2007 at 10:07 pm

the only thing I’m looking forward to is DBSK’s song..Gee..I want DBSK back in korea..

  8. 8 Jane August 31, 2007 at 10:32 pm

they have some top class people doing this, but yeah..im also a bit skeptical.

  9. 9 cosmicolor August 31, 2007 at 10:32 pm

This reminds me of Air City; the song (performed by TVXQ) was great, there was a lot of hype, but the ratings were pretty low.

Hopefully that doesn’t happen with this drama. ;x

  10. 10 teabag August 31, 2007 at 11:09 pm

    Exactly cosmicolor!
Honestly, I don’t want this drama to air because it will replace Dog and Wolf! No fun at all!

Popseoul, why won’t you post about Uljjang Choi Jina?
She’s #1 in ranking. You’ll be happy with the weird comments. Haha

  11. 11 merriwether August 31, 2007 at 11:11 pm

I really don’t see this drama being a huge success. This year has a been a year of unexpected successes I think. However I’d like to see it prove me wrong if this turns out to be a good show.

  12. 12 iDAREyou August 31, 2007 at 11:15 pm

Japanese ahjumma’s don’t care for Korean ajussi’s anymore. They prey on teeny boppers now. Kinda freaky, they’re always on fan meetings.

  13. 13 ed August 31, 2007 at 11:55 pm

oh the ajummas better eat it up & cough up a lot for The Legend mugs, socks, etc. Bc BYJ isn’t a MustWatch star in his own country anymore, esp. if the story is only so-so (like his last movie was barely watched in Korea!) CGI, big money production alone won’t keep the audience. altho if it flops, he’ll still have his billions.

  14. 14 kitty September 1, 2007 at 12:36 am

i jus want to listen to the song XP
    TVXQ hwaiting!!

  15. 15 Mike September 1, 2007 at 12:42 am

byj doesn’t look too good without his glasses…
the japanese ahjuma’s might not like this look.. =/

  17. 17 EunYoung September 1, 2007 at 1:00 am

  18. 18 um September 1, 2007 at 3:27 am

no money in Asia except in Japan! Japan’s fans can buy their CDs and DVDs! other asians and american’s ethnic asians only download unlegally!

  19. 19 Pualani September 1, 2007 at 4:05 am

I’m also in w/ Junsufan.I’m only down for the theme song being sung by DBSK, not so sure bout watchin it. I’m pretty sure my mom will be the only one tuning into the drama since she’s a big BYJ fan.

  20. 20 abby September 1, 2007 at 4:09 am

i am also skeptical about this upcoming drama. BYJ doesn’t really sound that bankable anymore. although the ever-beloved DBSK might help with the viewers’ anticipation, i doubt if this drama will live up to all the hype.

well, we’ll all just have to see. i hope we’re wrong about this, though…

  21. 21 um September 1, 2007 at 4:13 am

    Don’t care asian fans!
Care only korean and japanese fans!

  22. 22 JiHae September 1, 2007 at 6:50 am

yes i download unlegally, your comment is ignorant and off topic and please learn some proper english before you leave another comment. thanks.

also korean and japanese people are not asian? okay smarty

  23. 23 bebetama September 1, 2007 at 7:35 am

As a DBSK fan, the theme song is the only thing who interest me^^ but maybe, maybe I will give a try to that drama

  24. 24 Koko September 1, 2007 at 9:27 am

    @ Dumpling
    That’s what I thought!

Well, I still want to check this out.

  25. 25 TVXQ_FANS September 1, 2007 at 12:03 pm

    im wating
    but
im still wating for their performance in korea!!
    miss them so much!!
    btw
i heard from my friend that
sm tries to disband TVXQ-by reducing their fame in korea
the proof she give is that TVXQ do not active in korea anymore..
    what you guys think???

  26. 26 ec September 1, 2007 at 2:05 pm

i never understood byj’s appeal. someone explain.

  27. 27 junsufan September 1, 2007 at 2:38 pm

    TVXQ_FANS
: do u really believe in all the BS about SM wanting to disband DBSK?! Sure, DBSK’s popularity has decreased in Korea..but it’s definitely because they’re focusing in Japan now..-___- And they’re still doing pretty good for a group who is inactive in Japan. Their POTM sold A LOT..ranked 2nd and 3rd on the charts..meaning those pictures sold more than albums..
SM ain’t stupid to throw away their money..=] DBSK in Japan = more income, more money, happy SM..

  28. 28 @ec September 1, 2007 at 2:59 pm

think a hallyu fabio. byj created a fantasy image from nothing, kinda like madonna. to obasan he is the ideal man. smart, The Body, romantic, loyal, rich, pure, sensual (his 2 movies so far cast him as a skilled lover in bed.) his haters would say he never plays anyone but byj & ruins the stories accordingly. but it’s kinda impressive b/c there is not other byj in the world. like michael jackson is unique LOL
or maybe you already know all this, still don’t get hot for him :P

  29. 29 Hey September 1, 2007 at 3:38 pm

Well, I have an idea why some people hate BYJ.
He is good man and a role model. They can’t relate to his
virtues because they don’t have it and they hate his
    guts because he is pure.

Well, I think he is a welcome change in this world full
of evil. Our world became so complicated and he brings a breath of fresh air.

You can say anything about his acting because opinions are very subjective. We will never have the same opinion on anything but I think he is the only actor I know that deserved real respect.

  30. 30 Hey September 1, 2007 at 7:02 pm

This is a site for crazy people.

Have to sign off to save my sanity…

  31. 31 Dumpling September 1, 2007 at 8:56 pm

“i never understood byj’s appeal. someone explain.”

I don’t know a whole lot about him but he seems like a gentleman and intelligent. His reputation seems good–I think women are attracted to his personal qualities more than his acting talent or even his looks. That’s my perception anyway, but like I said I don’t know a whole about him.

  32. 32 Dumpling September 1, 2007 at 9:06 pm

    @ Hey

“but I think he is the only actor I know that deserved real respect.”

Based on my minimal, outsider observance, I would agree with this. I mentioned before that I don’t know all there is to know about BYJ and wouldn’t quite even consider myself a fan (I haven’t decided if I like his acting enough yet but so far I am a fan of his “person”, LOL, if this makes any sense) but if I had to be totally and completely honest I have to say I have never seen fans of an actor react the way they do to this guy. Not Asian actors, Hollywood–nowhere. BYJ’s fans do the usual “he’s so gorgeous” and “I loved his new movie” and critiquing his hair and clothes just like any fans do but where it gets unique is how they express a tremendous amount of respect for him as a person. Detractors can say what they want about why THEY don’t like him, but BYJ’s fans can write you a list of 100 things they adore about him and they are qualities that appear to be backed up by more than 10 years in the public spotlight. This guy is very eloquent and smart. Also, he gives a lot to charities and encourages his fans to do as well (and they listen to him, as evidenced by the thousands of dollars donated to World Vision in honor of BYJ’s birthday). It is hard to ignore a person like this. I have never seen anything like the reaction BYJ fans have to this guy. I strongly suspect women sense in him something they do not find in the men around them in their own lives. I don’t know–maybe if more men had these qualities that BYJ seems to have, then more women would focus their attention on their men and not on an actor. Just a thought.

  33. 33 Jaz September 1, 2007 at 10:14 pm

I think the result would be great to have ajumma’s fav n teenager’s fav working together…
    Btw…really can’t wait to listen to DBSK’s song….
    Hwaitting oppa!!

  34. 34 aigoo September 2, 2007 at 12:10 am

i hope this drama does good..
    but only for DBSK…
    cause they kick ass..
    DBSK hwaiting!!! ^__^

  35. 35 Sarah September 2, 2007 at 4:34 am

Don’t care about the drama, but looking forward to the song.

  36. 36 hearmeroar September 2, 2007 at 8:47 am

never found BYJ attractive. i find dbsk attractive, though. ;) HAHA

  37. 37 monalisa September 2, 2007 at 5:06 pm

Whether you like him or not, BYJ is himself a legend in Korea and Japan. For me, I’m a fence-sitter when it comes to Mr. Bae, but I did like him in Hotelier.

  38. 38 suzana September 2, 2007 at 10:25 pm

i think it’ll be great! TVXQ FIGHTING!

  39. 39 yoo mi September 3, 2007 at 2:36 pm

  41. 41 lol September 3, 2007 at 4:24 pm

hey i told you im a teenager and i love yong joon oppa! and lol this group’s base is here in japan already and my classmates dont even know who they are. (im 3rd yr junior highschool)
    ………………………………..
heard that there song was on the ranking chart but guess what, i saw a ‘hallyu hater japanese program’ and did a survey who bought dbsk’s cd’s. the result ??????????

ALL OF THEM ARE GRANDMOMMYS “““““““““

  42. 42 lol September 3, 2007 at 4:30 pm

but i think theyre cool. ill buy theyre cd later……..
and hoping to find a survey theyre again so i can tell them that it is only in japan where hallyu fans are all ajummas and if they try going in PHil and other countrys they will see that yong joon oppas fans are from ”’10”’~100yrs old…

  43. 43 cassie. September 4, 2007 at 3:00 am

…BYJ is attractive for an old guy. Except for when he had that ajummah hair.

  44. 44 Dumpling September 5, 2007 at 7:07 am

An old guy?? Oh get REAL. We don’t live in the 1950s anymore. Mid-30s is not old. Maybe 60 years ago people in mid-30s were cooked but not anymore. People are staying healthier, hipper, and better looking longer now, so age matters less and less than it used to.

Unless a person wants to make or have babies, then I suppose you have to hurry a little bit.

  45. 45 hmong girl from america September 25, 2007 at 8:04 am

i think i want to watch this but too bad its on the international channel we dont gots it.

  46. 46 My personal thoughs October 1, 2007 at 6:10 am

I heard this was the most spent money in korean drama (the effects, actually went to diffrent countries to film, really used hundreds of horses), the cast made actual small towns, and I think its pretty good (watched 6 episodes so far)

  47. 47 Me November 24, 2007 at 4:21 am

Juz leave the hottie alone will ya? U all just jealous because when u get old u wont be looking hot like him..
