Rain is back in Seoul!

0901-rain.jpg

Fan-proclaimed “world star,” Rain is back in town after hiding out in Germany while filming Speed Racer. Just like the way he handled the US concert fiasco, Rain’s airport attire was disappointing. From the waist up, Rain resembled a Midwest cowboy with his cowboy hat and oversized scarf, but from the waist down, he looked like a wannabe rocker with one lonely jean-chain.

What Rain will do in Korea remains to be seen but he already signed with Calvin Klein to be their next model, putting him in direct competition with Jo In Sung, the Levis Model.

    (Oh you think I can’t spell couldn’t?)

What do you mean he was hiding out in Germany? He was filming and he gave a lengthy interview while he was there. Try and get your facts straight!

  2. 2 XiaoXi September 3, 2007 at 1:15 pm

Yep, Meru, that appears to be the world Rain lives in. There’s a group of people that want more evidence of wrongdoing before they are willing to believe the worst about MJ–I personally know several and Rain appears to be one, too–and I actually respect that more than those who are certain MJ is a pedophile and just choose to overlook it.

I didn’t mean to be insulting about people that can separate the deeds from the man from the talent, just to comment that the world you get when you do that can end up pretty unpleasant. And that I can’t go there: if molesting innocent children doesn’t earn one’s disgust and total condemnation I can’t imagine what will…

None of this is meant personally to you, Meru–I agree with a lot of what you say, appreciate your civility, and think you’re just telling it like it is in the world, which I know is true, no matter how much I wish it weren’t.

Now, go enjoy the pictures! :-)

  3. 3 XiaoXi September 3, 2007 at 1:25 pm

Dumpling, I give you full props for being able to acknowledge Rain’s positives considering how much you dislike him–not an easy thing to do!

You may be right about him being a moron and a poseur–I’ll be willing to admit it upon a bit more evidence. But I am going to have to wait for the next chapter to unfold first. I have to see how much of that fake stuff (that I don’t care for either) was JYP’s doing and how much came from Rain.

It took a lot of courage (or stupidity, depending on who you believe) to break out on his own. I really respect him wanting to do that. Now I want to see what he does next. That will tell us all we need to know about who he really is. I hope you’ll hold out a little bit of a possibility for him till then…

And hey, if all he manages to do in the US is model, I’ll gobble up that eye candy! I’m really looking forward to those Calvin Klein ads…:-)

  4. 4 peepoo September 3, 2007 at 1:36 pm

give the guy a break, already! now that he’s done filming the movie (which i’m looking forward to seeing regardless if rain’s in it or not cuz i love speedracer) and is back in korea, let’s see how he gets his act together. give the guy a chance to do it, at least.

    He looks fine!!!

Can’t wait to see his new CK CF!!

  6. 6 amused September 3, 2007 at 9:29 pm

Dumpling, you’re really harsh hahaha. But honest. Although I’m a fan, I agree that he’s a moron and a poseur (came to that conclusion this year after “analysing” his behaviour). Love everything else about him though.

I’ve always thought he doesn’t have much brain matter but he’s proved to be dumber than I thought ie. especially this USA dream. And his behaviour seems to be driven by this thought “I don’t want to make an ass outta myself and I have to maintain this world star facade “. Ironically, he’s proving his stupidity with his USA career plans!

  7. 7 ed September 3, 2007 at 9:35 pm

    did someone just coin “celeBRATy”?

    high-5!

  8. 8 Dumpling September 3, 2007 at 9:50 pm

“I’ve always thought he doesn’t have much brain matter”

My thoughts exactly. I honestly don’t think he’s very bright. That’s a lot of his problem right there.

  9. 9 Dumpling September 3, 2007 at 9:57 pm

“i think rain has more anti-fans than fans”

    Gee, I wonder why?

  10. 10 sandara-chan September 4, 2007 at 12:59 am

Drizzle, is that you? Don’t you have better things to do with your time than posting anonymously about yourself on PopSeoul?

    (LOL)

  13. 13 Listen. September 4, 2007 at 2:51 am

Poor Rain, getting so much anti-fans because of the whole concert fiasco (and I’m sorry for those who lost their money as well)… the whole thing was just bad. But must it be brought up everytime Rain’s name pops up? My Gawd (I know, I know, this is YOUR site).

Here’s this Asian who’s trying to break into the Entertainment Industry of America – as a foreigner, a Korean foreigner.
    Is he ready? Maybe not.
    Is he trying? Most definitely.
    Does he work hard? Undeniably.
As naive as they seem (Se7en & Rain) to try to ‘make it’ in America, at least SOMEONE is trying! I mean, if they never try – then how will anyone ever know if an Asian can? It seems like the attitude going on is “An Asian trying to make it big? How dare they?! What’s wrong with staying here?!”
    I know… how dare they!
Whether they fail, make it, or even slightly made it as a ‘one-hit wonder’ at least THEY TRIED.

And I want to give them props, cuz it takes guts and it IS going to be extremely difficult. Humiliations, doubts, ridicules, etc to overcome – it takes a lot in a person.

And I like that fact that they are both 100% Asians. Yes, we have Asian stars in U.S. already, but they’re either
1)Not THAT big of a star,
    2)Only a % of Asian,
3)can expertly do some kind of martial arts

They both seem like good, decent guys. What’s wrong with cheering them on? Some may hate their music/acting, but at least keep in mind – at least they are trying. It’s not like they killing people!

And NO, that is not a cowboy hat Rain is wearing.

  14. 14 sandara-chan September 4, 2007 at 7:32 am

I do not have other thing better, because that the best thing is RAIN.
you say that to me?? when answers all the post’s of here xD,

The EUA (and others) hate the Asian ones … is for envy …? OMG!!!!

I add that not posting anonymous, u_U

    RAIN over the world!

    HERE!!! It’s raining… YeaaaH

  15. 15 Charlie September 4, 2007 at 8:01 am

I beg to differ that Rain is even close to dumb!..It is widely accepted that actors are smarter than most of us. The problem is that Rain seems to want to accept and tell people the things he can’t do. Like having problems remembering the words to songs as he dances when he first began performing, or not being a great student when he was in school.

Just try and do the things Rain has done and see how easy it is. Dumb no…he is just always trying to do even the things that are difficult for him, and sometimes he may even fail..which just makes him human like the rest of us.

It’s great that there are people like Rain who use the time they have to go for goals that most of us are too lazy to try for. While we sit around writing in blogs criticizing the people who do try.

  16. 16 noelinha September 4, 2007 at 8:26 am

sandara you are my idol!! I´m agree with all your words^^

  17. 17 peepoo September 4, 2007 at 11:33 am

“…people like Rain who use the time they have to go for goals that most of us are too lazy to try for. While we sit around writing in blogs criticizing the people who do try.”

i agree…but would add…not just lazy but scared to try. it’s easier to criticize others for trying to achieive something than to try to do it ourselves…such a sad human trait. although i’m skeptical of rain and se7en’s attempts (i don’t think americans are into that cheesy asian pop)…but i’m supportive of any asians who even make the attempt. b/c having family and friends in the industry, i know first hand how hard it is. so what if they fail…it’ll give others a foundation to build on and to learn from their mistakes.

  18. 18 peepoo September 4, 2007 at 11:39 am

  22. 22 May September 4, 2007 at 1:07 pm

hehe, i know the chance of Rain succeeding in the U.S. is low but if he does…I’m going to slap “haha, I told you so” in your face!

  23. 23 amused September 5, 2007 at 12:40 am

Rain is very gifted in what he does ie. the dancing, the singing and yes, he tries very hard at acting. He pushes himself very hard and he’s a perfectionist.

But he sure as hell ain’t intelligent! I’ve been “religiously” following him for 2+ years and have read/heard (and not just from media reports!!) enough to know.

He can go and try out his American dream. However, he should be prepared to lose his Asian fanbase if he continues to ignore them. There are a lot of annoyed people who are just keeping quiet.

  24. 24 ashchronicles89 September 5, 2007 at 12:55 am

waa…i’ve been reading all the before comments..and i agree 100% with charlie and listen! i like rain and i do appreciate some of his efforts to make it big in america…it’s not easy ya know!

and it’s kinda hard not to become a poser in his situation..everybody(ok, maybe his fans) are looking up to him..wanting to know every single moves that he made..it’s hard to make everybody likes you~~and understand the decisions u make..

this is my first time posting here^^ i just cant sit quietly and read what ppl are saying about rain just like that..
and yeah,i do think jung ji hoon and rain are two different people..you cant expect him to be perfect all the time though..he can break down and make stupid decisions juz like all of us..

    so…..haeng-unul pimnida bi!!dont give up!

  25. 25 You Retards September 5, 2007 at 3:00 am

Just because Rain wants to attempt to make it in the U.S. – it doesn’t mean he’s abandoning or ignoring his Asian fans?! What kind of thinking is that? You can’t just stop being a fan of Rain just because his foot is on U.S. ground??! That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. There’s some people in the U.S. that became a fan of Rain – how the hell do you think THAT happened? Did they feel like they shouldn’t be fans cuz he’s “all the way” in Korea? No!
I mean, Britney, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, etc etc. still managed to gain fans out of the U.S. especially even in Asia. Did they abandon the U.S.? Ummm, no!

And why are people all of a sudden questioning his ‘intelligence’? I didn’t know we expected him to be a genius? So he’s probably not that smart. But is everyone? I mean, look at Britney Spears – she’s the dumbest of them all – but managed to become a HUGE and popular popstar (until her weirdest events lately).
Rain sings, acts, and dances… I don’t think it takes much BRAINS to do that – but some talent!

Yes, I have some doubt about his move to break into the U.S., but seriously… let him try. If we know the “whites” are gonna trash him, why the hell are we Asians giving them a headstart with it??!

He’s a “poser” or “cheesy wannabe”- well yeah it’s easy for people to say that. And it’s gonna be hard for people to overlook that (especially cuz he’s Asian -which is unusual to see an Asian hip-hop/pop/rock star). But Justin Timberlake was kinda like a poser, Eminem seemed like a poser to the popular black rap community, Usher seemed like he imitates (but actually is influenced by) Michael Jackson and James Brown… then along came Chris Brown… You guys get me?

“He doesn’t know English” – I agree with that part, he needs to be serious about mastering it more. But you know, English IS hard to learn especially if you’re a foreigner and it wasn’t that important/priority to learn in his country. But Shakira didn’t know English that well either when she first broke out in the U.S. – but she learned along the way.

Obviously I can’t stop those who hate from hating, but I just had to say something about it. Because some people’s bashing is just getting really ridiculous…

  26. 26 geekgirl September 5, 2007 at 3:01 am

WTF?? He thinks he can “hide” going through a public airport looking like that? If you really want to blend in, RAIN, lose the hat and the scarf. Those things only serve to attract attention and people will look at you like … WTF?

A scarf in the summer? Isn’t it a bit too hot for that?

  27. 27 Kelly September 5, 2007 at 3:01 am

@ Listen.: You make the most sense here.

  28. 28 geekgirl September 5, 2007 at 3:11 am

“And why are people all of a sudden questioning his ‘intelligence’? I didn’t know we expected him to be a genius? So he’s probably not that smart. But is everyone? Ummm .. there’s a difference between being a celebrity and being famous because you’re a moron.

Brittney may be famous, but more because of her moronic behavior than anything else. Ditto Paris Hilton. But do you think it’s GOOD notoriety?

It’s one thing to be popular for being a great entertainer and quite another for being a chronic narcissistic person who craves attention.

Many Rain fans are young, and like Brittney Spears fans, will wander away eventually when the newest hot item comes along. Especially if Rain can’t keep up and expand upon the great marketing plan that JYPE had provided him.

  29. 29 You Retards September 5, 2007 at 3:23 am

    Geekgirl:
Obviously you didn’t get what I was really trying to say…

I don’t think Rain got famous because of him being dumb and his outrageous behavior (unlike Paris Hilton), wouldn’t you agree?
I just didn’t think bashing about his intelligence was necessary at all.
Yes, JYPE was a big part in bringing Rain to the top. But you can’t call him an idiot for leaving? There are probably reasons we don’t know about. Also, stars change record labels/managers/whatever-you-call-it sometimes… it happens. Maybe it was a bad move, maybe it was a good move… but bashing his intelligence? C’mon.

  30. 30 geekgirl September 5, 2007 at 6:01 am

I digress. So, maybe Rain isn’t dumb. I really wouldn’t know. I guess Brittney really isn’t dumb, either, because she became so famous singing lame songs about “Ooops, I Did It Again”.

Then she went on a downward spiral.

Yeah … no one really knows if Rain is dumb.

But … ahem … why call us Retards and you’re defending Rain’s intelligence? Isn’t that being somewhat … uh … hypocritical?

  31. 31 Anna September 5, 2007 at 6:06 am

Okay, everyone needs to calm down already.
Now it’s getting to a point where people have to keep proving their point… which is pointless.

You ever notice how the Rain topics at popseoul always draw a lot of posts? There are certainly a lot of strong feelings surrounding the man.

I think it will be very, very interesting to see what Rain does over the next year, on his own, without the JYPE machinery behind him.

I think then we will all have a truer measure of the the man, Jung Ji-hoon (just about the time he heads off for the Army…)

  35. 35 geekgirl September 5, 2007 at 6:30 am

Sorry, Anna. But if you don’t like reading it, you don’t have to.

It’s better than posting “junk” just for the sake of telling people to shut up.

    (ie. Anna)

  36. 36 Anna September 5, 2007 at 6:39 am

OMG, you just have to keep going huh? Well yes, I don’t have to read it. But also, you don’t have to always try to defend your points after points after points after points… (and you’re probably thinking “Then what is it that [I'm] doing right now? Hypocritical?) Whatever! You are the type of person who makes complicated things more complicated, huh? I don’t mean to offend you, but it’s a little annoying in how you MUST respond to a commentor with some snarky remark. I mean, I don’t say you are wrong with what you say. But OMG.

WE GET IT ALREADY. YOU’RE A “GEEK”. Congratulations. May I add an annoying one? You wanna call me a geek or something else too? Go ahead! I’m sure you will come up with something. LOL.

  37. 37 M.P. September 5, 2007 at 6:49 am

It’s amazing as I read thru these comments.
And then it’s like—what’s the topic again?
    Oh riiigght, Rain! Hahaha.
I don’t expect Rain to dress fashionable and in-style 24/7. Especially just getting in-n-out of an airport!
I am positive that the hat he is wearing is not a cowboy one.

  38. 38 geekgirl September 5, 2007 at 8:33 am

    @Anna

Umm … I think you’re infatuated with me. Why is it that everyone else here has their own opinion, but you somehow have singled me out? Some others here have stronger opinions than mine, but you’re obviously picked me out of all of them?

Sorry … I don’t mean to break your heart, but I don’t swing that way.

  39. 39 geekgirl September 5, 2007 at 9:01 am

    @Anna

“I don’t mean to offend you, but it’s a little annoying in how you MUST respond to a commentor with some snarky remark. I mean, I don’t say you are wrong with what you say. But OMG.”

Why hate on me just because I was responding to someone who commented on something I wrote? We all have our own opinions when it comes to Rain. I have strong ones myself because I was “disappointed” (for lack of a better word) by him twice.

So I apologize if you view my remarks as being “snarky”. I have a “snarky” sense of humor and I don’t intend to suppress it. Best if you not read my posts from now on just to save your blood pressure from rising.

  40. 40 Nolongerbifan September 5, 2007 at 3:10 pm

As long as people not getting their refunds , as long as Rain not clearing up the whole “tour fiasco”, it will brought up.
Maybe it´s only me thinking it is wrong to spread out, that you earned a few million dollars with this “World Tour” when so many people lost their money because of this “World Tour Fiasco”.

  41. 41 geekgirl September 6, 2007 at 2:27 am

No, it’s definitely not just you, Nolongerbifan. I feel your pain because I’ve been there, too.

  42. 42 sunshine September 6, 2007 at 11:55 pm

Geekgirl- I think you are still very young. There will be many more disappointments that will come on your way. To be disappointed by your so called idol– you may not even be a loyal fan. You are so cheap to be measured by amount of money which you will be able to recover if working hard. Understand the situation of your idol… oh my dear you are so selfish. If one day you will be in a relationship (i wonder if you have a boyfriend – I am sorry for him to find a girl so selfish as you). It is in this dire situation that you should stand by your idol. Not all of Rain’s fans are dumb. All of you who made such comment I believe are young and immature and has not yet gotten into many tribulations in these life. You will never grow up if you are harboring bitterness with Rain of whose situation during that time is beyond his control. TAKE NOTE YOUNG GIRLS.

  43. 43 Right On September 7, 2007 at 12:14 am

    Right on, sunshine!
I swear these girls (and maybe some boys) think Rain did this on PURPOSE and convinced themselves that Rain doesn’t care and IS a ‘greedy bastard’…
But those that is still holding that grudge aren’t gonna change.
If I had the money, I’d throw your “lost money” at your face and tell you to just “shut up” already. And find some other boy you can ‘idolize’. Some people just like to take everything too far.
Rain is not your Mommy or Daddy, keep your whining to them only okay (though I feel bad for them). Is it because you kicked and screamed to get those concert tickets?

  44. 44 taebin September 7, 2007 at 1:00 am

    @sunshine

Everywhere in the world the deal is “One give the good money and the other give some goods. To give no goods for payed money can be a crime!!

We loved Rain and his music and dancing. He is known for being honest. Maybe a few hundered $$ means nothing to you but for people who worked hard to save the money for the tickets, it is disappointed to lose the money and their idol keeps on saying and doing nothing.

To say someone is selfish, only because she wants her money back is inconceivable. So many ticketholders does not venture to say “I need my money back” because they will be attacked on the official fansites as antis.

This behavior ( to attack people which lost their money) can ruin Rains reputation.
So he needs to clean up this all as soon as possible!!!!

By the way, I am no teenie. I am beyond 40th, going through good and bad times with my partner.

Fans like you -sunshine- are dumb and fanatic.

  45. 45 sandara September 7, 2007 at 2:55 am

    Aja Aja FIGHTING Rain!!

    You are teh best!!

    Usa guys Envy?? xD

  46. 46 geekgirl September 7, 2007 at 5:41 am

    @ Sunshine

How can you say that I am cheap when you don’t even know me? Maybe you can spend thousands of dollars just to travel to someone’s concerts, but a lot of us have to sacrifice in order to do so. If I wasn’t a “loyal fan”, do you think I would do that?

Yes, my status of “loyal fan” is in the past. No more will I spend my money on this kid, and that’s just MY opinion and MY option to do. I can do what I like with the money that I work hard for.

And, BTW … better give back that dime-store “degree” you have in psychology, because you are soooo wrong in your assessment of me.

  47. 47 geekgirl September 7, 2007 at 5:46 am

    @ Right On,

“If I had the money, I’d throw your “lost money” at your face and tell you to just “shut up” already.

Sure. You can throw my money back at me if you want. Altogether, for the cancelled concerts in Hawaii and L.A., the total is $3,247. And that’s WITHOUT the concert tickets. If you want to pay me for those, that will be an additional $425.

I’m not making that amount up. I did NOT have to ask my mom and dad for the money because I have a job of my own.

Now are you even beginning to understand?

And that amount is just a drop in the bucket compared to what people who flew in from Japan, China, Singapore, Korea, etc. paid. I’m sure they would LOVE to have you reimburse them, too.

  48. 48 cheonsa September 7, 2007 at 1:13 pm

how dare you two (sunshine and right on) criticize and throw in references to geekgirls boyfriend and parents? you don’t know her and you say things like that? sounds like you two are the spoiled brats around here! grow up!

  49. 49 amused September 7, 2007 at 10:17 pm

Just watch Rain’s behaviour. He only says hello to his Korean fans during interviews and in media reports, it’s USA, USA and USA all the time!!! So tell me, whether he’s ignoring the ASIAN fans who have made him the superstar he is??

  50. 50 sunshine September 9, 2007 at 12:37 am

    geekgirl, cheonsa

you are both funny now that I know the age of geekgirl, it is really amusing to read what you are writing, the more I would say immature. Rain is just like your son and needs your guidance. Give him an advise not scolding. You both will have an heart attack if you continue to harbor bitterness. You lost the money and you can not get it back? consider you have given it to someone in need. You will have more health problems if you act this way. By the way cheonsa you are also a self-righteous critic. And I am not a fan just amused of you all.
