Did you notice the random violin solo during SuJu’s debut performance on Music Bank? That random violinist was Henry, a new Chinese talent to sprout from the well-known celebrity-churner SM. Like Zhang Li Yin, Henry was discovered at SM’s world auditions (2006) and his talents are supposedly multi-faceted. To give him a leg-up, SM gave him the violin solo in SuJu’s “Don’t Don,” which got many fans and the media talking.
It will be nice to see more foreigners trying to learn Korean and break into the Korean market. However, Chinese imports such as ZLY and Han Kyung, haven’t achieved much. Based on their ‘years and years’ of training, the results were disappointing so far. Do you think Henry has what it takes to make it in Korea?

first of all, they have way too many guys in one group. each boy have like 3 words to sing or scream.
second, they’re spending too much money on their looks which isn’t even that great. it’s awkward. i heard their other songs.. it does not go well with their new image. well maybe they’ll change to something weird again when they sing another song… who knows. too early to say.
third.. OMG. they just suck. i don’t think they can pull this punk/bad boy type of image. are they trying to mock H.O.T? why are all these boy bands trying to be like H.O.T?

well he seems like he has more real musical talent than some/most of the suju boys. hope he does well in his career. SM really does churn out these “talents”, they can make them pretty idols but the talent is what should really count. I really liked his part in the MV, and dancing while playing violin! but im bias towards violinist.
BUT i was really surprised with this performance, suju actually sang live?!?! …and it was kinda ok, even though a lot more “rapping” covers up for real singing. i like most of their new look (its my personal style) even though its probably not their style since they’re supposed to be pop group.

when i watched the Don’t Don MV, IMO he’s the highlight of the MV..I was so attracted to him playing the violin..and dang..he’s hot..and since he’s taiwanese..and from Canada..I guess he can speak both chinese and English?? I’m definitely waiting for his debut..=D
if you have talent i think you can make it anywhere.. however success can not be instantly achieved… successful people in the entertainment business had years with them before they finally enjoyed the success they are having now… !o!

BUT…with violin skills like that, what’s he doing in pop music? he better invent his own genre or something, because pop is all about gimmicks, image, and turning yourself into a brand name. it’d be sad if he spent time on image consulting instead of real musicianship.

SuJu’s performance was totally awesome and very. very. very. UNEXPECTED. Although they might have strayed from their concept, but just look at their performance! They totally rocked it! SM and of course the SuJu boys did a good job this time round. Their comeback was a big bang. I think SuJu should not be a group where some members do this, some do that and they’re all split up. Of course there is also Hankyung’s visa issues. But when they are together as a whole team, they’re awesome! If they stay like this I seriously believe that they can break into the Japan market as well as the rest of Asia.

Hankyung is the first Chinese and foreigner to debut in Korea and actually succeed in gaining an amount of fans. ZLY might not be seen much, but she has a strong voice and theres nothing to be disappointed about. Maybe because of their visas we don’t see them as. But I can’t really say that they are disappointments. Also it sounds very ummm I don’t know but saying that they are imports is a bit rude. They both audition and made it clear to SM that they have talent and have what it takes to debut.

It’s a way of SM to get these new possible debuting star a chance in the limelight, for them to gain more attention.
Super Junior was promoted with DBSK when they collaborated for the winter album + because of there big size it gain more attention. ZLY had the help of Xiah Junsu on her title track, and it seems like she made it big because she won the Best New Artist award. And SNSD gained their attention because they were being known as the female Super Junior just like CSJH was the the female DBSK.
It’s best to get your next new possible artist a chance to be recognized by the fans by having them either performing or w/e with a big star artist. It gains them attention and helps with their future debut.

When he appeared in SUJU’s video and live performance, I think he outshined them all and I wanted to see more of it and less of SUJU.. I’ve read lots of blog posts saying the same.
Not sure how well or what he’ll do at SM though I hope it’ll be as a solo performer.
I don’t like SuJu, and their new song is unappealing to me. But I loved Henry in it. He saved the song, or whatever was left of it, and I’m REALLY looking forward to seeing more of him in the future. Although I don’t know much about him, I think he has a good chance of becoming popular in Korea. After all, his friends say that he is a pretty decent singer and from various clips, he has some talents (I haven’t heard him sing before though). In addition, if he is already debuting after one year of training, he must be pretty good because I am pretty sure SM Entertainment would not let him debut if he’s not good enough. I have also read on online communities that the company has been praising him a lot by saying things among the lines of him being even more talented than those working for them. Anyway, I wonder if I know anyone who knows him because I am from the GTA and I know that there are a few people who went to the same school with him (if I remember correctly). That will be pretty cool because I have no clue who he is (heck, I don’t even know how old he is!).
I would like to comment on the fact that there are 13 MEMBERS in Super Junior. You can’t really spread the layout evenly without having an ugly box right next to Sungmin you know. And anyways thats the official poster they give with the CD, I dunno if you want print out a black and white picture of Henry and paste next to Sungmin if you’re one of those people who want Henry to be part of the group. I won’t say that he isn’t or is because there has been no official news that came from the mouth of SM.
Henry can make big, I’m sure of it. But if all these people keep saying that he can outshine Super Junior, why the hell should he join them if he’s better off on his own? He has talent that can help him grow big on his own, without being part of a big group.

And according to my sister who went to school with him (almost every chinese from toronto knows someone that go to the same school as him, because his school is famous and has a lot of chinese in it), he is very sweet. Do anyone know what exactly are the languages that he can speak? I heard he can speak like 5 languages. I know English is definitely one, then Korean, Japanese? Chinese? Anyone know?

Whether an artist can become successful or not does not depend on talents. There are other factors. If Henry doesn’t make it in Korea, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have the talents because he’s talented.
Also, he’s just received several months of training and before that he could already dance and sing well. Not only can he play the violin, which he started learning at age six, but the piano also and he’s very good at it. He had earned various prizes with his talent skills.
Lastly, he’s not exactly whitewashed. He’s still in touch with his heritage. He’s been affiliated with many charitable organizations serving the Chinese community.

Hey it’s Mr. Henry Lau! haha! I used to call him that everyday at school. haha! I’ve known this kid for 4 years, he is a real joker. LOL! He is very talented and I think he’s better off solo and I think he will be very successful in Korea and hopefully soon, all of Asia, and in the future, world wide. He has potential, and is very hard working, he’ll definitely make it in Korea.

Lmao, you people saying that he’s not that talented. Maybe you really are a better violinist, but I don’t really see how you could make that judgment based on these two videos. Both performances are more about entertaining the pop culture crowd than showcasing his violin skills.

I think he’ll get far, I’ve seen him perform in toronto at asian get togethers and I also saw him at the audtition in toronto. He’s got real talent….his violin skills are amazing. Espeacially when he’s only in grade 10 ARCT level.

for the people who knows Henry, was he part of this group called ‘One’? I remember faintly watching this group performed in toronto, where there was an amazing violinist and a dancer, and both of them rocked.

They aren’t trying to mock H.O.T., they were actually trained by Kanta of H.O.T. and they’re frmo the same company, so they’re like…being trained from the same people H.O.T. came from. Adding Henry is too much though =/

dude. what the heck was THAT?! that performance was so chaotic. so many members! and this is definitely a mock performance of h.o.t./shinhwa during their debut days. the whole “punk” look is not in anymore. goodness gracious. i don’t think they can pull off this image. not good at all. if anything, the violin performance was the only thing decent in the performance despite it only played like 20 seconds or so. however, i thought it was oddly placed. a violin performance in a chaotis performance with a bunch of “punks” in matrix clothing.

I think henry can make it big. I want him to show everyone in Korea, especially SJ fans, that he can make it big there. not only in korea, but in china and worldwide. it is a big goal but i believe in him. screw elf and their chantings. he can make it bc a lot of people are behind him in this one.
henry’s part in the MV was of course good,, the guy’s got talent..hands down…but still he doesn’t need to be in SuJu for people to notice him…he has to work hard for this..well anyway, my opinion..

i liked the song.. it one of the best out of their second album..but it’s only what i think so don’t hate^^ i love them lots and i don’t care who is in it with them cuz it’s still them!!

First of all Henry is not cute, second of all, he doesn’t speak any Korean, nor does he even speak his own language (Mandarin/Cantonese) which is ironic considering the fact that his dad is from Hong Kong and his mom is from Taiwan. HENRY IS NOT GOING TO MAKE IT, at least not into Suju China. If he wants to debut as a Korean Artist fine, put in the sweat and blood like everyone else minimum 2 years.
SM gets foriegn trainees for one purpose, to open up their markets. What good will Henry do, he can’t Chinese, he can’t reach out to the Chinese fans.

Yes, he can play the violin but that’s about it. He was on Star King with Suju and he performed but he didn’t even
