Can Henry make it in Korea?

Did you notice the random violin solo during SuJu’s debut performance on Music Bank? That random violinist was Henry, a new Chinese talent to sprout from the well-known celebrity-churner SM. Like Zhang Li Yin, Henry was discovered at SM’s world auditions (2006) and his talents are supposedly multi-faceted. To give him a leg-up, SM gave him the violin solo in SuJu’s “Don’t Don,” which got many fans and the media talking.

It will be nice to see more foreigners trying to learn Korean and break into the Korean market. However, Chinese imports such as ZLY and Han Kyung, haven’t achieved much. Based on their ‘years and years’ of training, the results were disappointing so far. Do you think Henry has what it takes to make it in Korea?

Can Henry make it in Korea?
1) Yes – his violin performance was awesome! I can already hear his fans screaming
2) No – The only reason he’s getting some attention now is because of SuJu
3) Maybe – it’s too early to tell

What is Henry going to do if he is added to the group? Unless SM plans to have a violin solo of this guy on every music video of super junior then I think he will be a great addition to the group.

Henry is a good violin player no doubt about it; not in the same level as Paganini but still moving. However, can he offer something new to the table aside from being bad ass violin virtuoso? Super Junior, as SM wants to market it and ELVES buys it, is a pop idol group. Boy bands are suppose to serenade and dance for us. If Henry wanted to be part of this loser group then please be my guest. But for someone who has real talent like him, he is better off without them.

I don’t really believe that Super Junior possesses any superior talent (except maybe for attaining screaming fan girls). It’s really a waste of this guy’s talent to be put into some pretty boy group where he’ll be lost among the sea of 13 members (we’ll only tell him apart because of the violin). I think he’d be better off having a Vanessa Mae-like career. I mean, he’s cute and we haven’t seen any male violinists (bond, Jenny Bae – they’re all female!). I play the violin too, and it’d be nice to have a hot male violinist to listen to.

Still, if he’s more for shameless fame…being part of SuJu might suit him.

Henry Lau makes all Chinese Canadians proud. =)
He also won the Jean Lumber Awards. ^__^

    He’s very promising.
I’d be mad at SM if they don’t promote this guy well.

yeahh..henry’s very talented, i must say, but then again, it’s all about LSM’s planning..whether he’ll wasted it or make use of it?anyways, it’s only money and more money for LSM~~ he sees Henry as one of his source of gaining more $$$.. i must say super junior is multi-talented..they maybe not the best singer except for yesung, kyuhyun n ryeowook who posses great vocals, but they are great entertainers..

Listen people, when Esther said that Henry’s not that good at violin, she’s speaking RELATIVELY I presume.

Henry has passed the grade 10 RCM exam at age 16, which is a great accomplishment. But there are definitely many better violin students out there. Some of my violin teacher’s students are better than Henry, but hey — they can’t dance, moonwalk, sing, etc. I’d like to speak neutrally, without bias, without being anti-Henry or pro-Henry. I acknowledge that Henry’s violin skills are great, but not the best for his age. But I’m going to commend him for being so multi-talented. He deserves his fame for that.

Don’t look at Henry as the “violin guy,” because anti-Henry people are going to keep pointing out that Henry’s violin skills are really only at the student level (which is true). Look at Henry as a singer/dancer, but with an additional talent for violin; consider violin as a bonus, NOT his main talent.
If you want world-class pop violinists, listen to Vanessa Mae or Karen Briggs — these are top professional violinists specializing in modern music. But they can’t sing or dance or moonwalk, so Henry beats them in those areas, LOL.
