Rain showed his face at Daegu yesterday to fulfill his role as the PR ambassador for 2011 International Association of Athletics Federation’s (IAAF) World Championships in Athletics, planned to be held at Daegu, Korea’s fourth largest city. As usual, Rain put on his fake smile while he shook hands with important people and waved to 60,000 Daeguians who gathered to see him.
Rain flew to Shanghai, China after the event to prepare for his concert scheduled for October 6th.

Not much to say here. His smile does look fake especially in that one photo in particular. And while I usually have my finger on the trigger to criticize Drizzle, I do agree with the previous poster that it can be really hard to hold a genuine smile for an extended amount of time. Other than that he looks cute. I actually don’t think his hair is horrible and I’ve always said he’s got a cute face and adorable smile. Well, he’s a Cancer and Cancers are known to have cute smiles and funny teeth.

Rain pops his chest, and maybe his hips (and his hip popping aint that great). Se7en freezes, glides, pops and locks, and has choreography. NOt only that, but Se7en has his own move, the Se7en Nike Pike

Even the people who imitate Rain backstage (like Big Bang) do the same moves over and over again because that is the only “hard” choreography he does. I’m not discriminating or talking down to Rain, but I definitely don’t think Rain is particularly the best, or better than Se7en. He’s better than Yuhno from DBSK…maybe.

Amount of fans has something to do with how great someone is, but it isn’t everything.
EX : Pussycat dolls have many fans, are they talented? Hell no they aren’t. One of them may be, and she’s pretty. But that’s about it.
If Rain was such a “great singer” why doesn’t he try as hard as others in many ways, not just singing live or writing songs, but I mean everything POSSIBLE? Why doesn’t he please his fans as much, instead of canceling? I understand one or two cancels, but multiple cancellations in matter of months… IN A ROW? Then hiding off in Europe?

having the most fans doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re great. singers like drizzle are set up for a certain market and their agencies promote that image toward their targeted audience. thats why “singers” like drizzle can’t have gf’s. if it’s known that he’s “off the market”, there won’t be much of a fanbase left because the little fangirls will find some other “singer” to idolize next. why not? they’re a dime a dozen these days.
but one thing i noticed is that these “icons” have to deal with a lot of pr, appearances, hosting, etc, to keep up with that image. all that activity takes a toll on a person and sooner or later, you’ll begin to see the stress on their faces …..

i measure someone’s greatness by the work that they do. not by the hype or by what someone markets to a specific audience like britney spears, because those people are most often times mediocre, and without all the hype, they’d just fade into the background.
people who have made it in the industry due to their abilities are who i consider great. actors like watanabe ken and tom hanks, for example, are who i personally consider great actors. do they have the most fans? probably not. do they beat drizzle in acting ability? absolutely.

I think singers like Rain are only here for entertaining with their sexy bodies, not to make hits that will last a long time. You mentioned EXACTLY what I was trying to say. Artists like that don’t have a chance of getting back up if they mess up, that’s why they must be very good; because if anything bad happened to someone with real talent, they can bounce back up with another hit/wonderful song.
Fine, so Rain isn’t talented to me. But even his personality irks me. And the way he represents himself, and the appearance that he puts out. Take Hyolee, she dresses so provocatively, but yet when interviewed, she’s fully clothed and soft spoken at times or really fun and down to earth to talk to. I don’t think she’s that great of a singer or dancer (she has gotten better with her mini album and mini drama) but at least I think she’s a good person and entertaining when it comes to being interviewed.

My A : Their way of presenting art. Music is an art, dancing is an art, writing is an art, and acting is an art, even speech and talking is considered an art. If you’re presenting it with your sex appeal – that is not art. AND their ability to work as hard as they can, not just rely on a great producer and how great you look.
Even if you couldn’t write a great song, so what? As long as you sing it with all your heart, with your great vocals, put emotion into it (dance as great as you can or play your instrumentals – not stupid repetitive notes), rely on YOU and your talent, not the great physical features you have. With that, then that at least can do good enough. It’s the will to do good, even if you know you aren’t that great, not cower behind things that other people have as well (I.E. looking hot).

Rain isn’t an artist, he’s an entertainer. Even if Rain had great vocals, he still wouldn’t be considered an artist since he relies on others too much.
Same goes for Hyori.
An artist put themselves into their work and the only thing artistic about those two is that they change their clothes to fit the style of their music.

Please. Don’t underestimate the power of fantasy, especially among the young. I actually STOPPED being fans of a couple of cool J-rockers (Gackt, for one) because the fan groups were making me ill with their constant homosexual-fantasies-comments-fan-fics. Once, I finally broke down and asked one fan group why they did this especially when the J-rockers in question were clearly NOT GAY. After some phony himming and hawing about “overactive imaginations” the majority finally admitted that it makes them feel better to fantasize about their idols with MEN rather than having to face even the IDEA of them being with WOMEN. The same psychology applies to women who can’t remain fans of people like Drizzle if they come out publicly with a real girlfriend. And naturally (but unfortunately) this would spell the end of their careers because in Asia you are nothing without your fan base. Psychologically these women lose interest when they are faced with their adored one in a real life situation, when they are faced with them as REAL MEN and not as objects of fantasy. This is especially rampant among fans of Japanese and Korean (probably the same in Taiwan and China as well–must be an Asian thing) celebrities. It is a phenomenon we do NOT experience here in the States. In America celebrities can have all the lovers they want and it does not effect their fan base or their career. In Asia it is a different dynamic altogether, to the point where many male idols can hide their girlfriends/lovers literally for YEARS without it becoming known to the public. In many cases in Japan the exposure of long-term relationships have had devastating effects on their careers–more so for the men than the women. If Drizzle is indeed straight (and I’m not so sure myself) he could be hiding his relationships very, very well.
Then again, if he’s gay he could be hiding his relationships very, very well. LMAO!!!

Kind of disagree with that one on Asian idols losing female fans because of their personal love life. Take Hyde from L’arc en Ciel and Kimura Takuya just from Japan. Big names, married with kids, still big with women of all ages.
Then again, if you’re talking about idols who attract rabid 12-18 year olds only by looks, hmm, yea, they’ll pretty much flip out and threaten to murder. Main point: idols build on a fanbase that is only after superficial talent don’t get very far.

I wasn’t suggesting it happens across the board in every case. I am not so familiar with Hyde, though I know who he is. Kimura, however, I’m a big fan of and I recall he had to APOLOGIZE publicly for his marriage and for “being careless” (getting the wife pregnant before the marriage). And yes, there was a HUGE amount of worry from Johnny’s Office when all that happened. Many people thought it would be the end of Kimura. Thankfully, it was not. Maybe Japan is growing up in this regard, or maybe his fans are more mature, or maybe he “got away with it” because he was older and had already been famous for a long time by then. I don’t know but I’m happy because he is a cool guy (terrific actor) and he is showing the face of a happy, well-adjusted family man.

To tell you the truth, I’m the exact opposite. I’d rather see the hot boys with girls. why? So duh, I can picture myself with them. And for the girl idols, I’d rather them with a boy if they aren’t in a group. But if they are in a girl group, of course they are bound to be paired up.
I do it for fun, not fantasy. Plus, it’s cute.
Japan fanbases seem to be really elaborate and imaginative to the point where it seems real. Korean fanbases seem to be really overprotective and almost scary to the point of being vicious or rude. This is just from my experiances/what I see. But you are correct, Japanese artists have it hard when it comes to relationships, because all their fanbases would hate them so. I would only be upset if the person they are with looks like a total sleezebag.
But then again, you have to think of stars like BoA, Utada hikaru, Angela Aki, Ayumi Hamasaki – those talented folks have all dated, and they still have a strong fanbase. Why? Talent and drive, not sex appeal.
