Super Junior on Star King

1020-suju2.jpg

Yes, I know that this is old news, but after receiving dozens of requests to cover Super Junior on Star King, I felt like I owed it to the Elves who secretly visit POPSEOUL! despite our unfavorable opinion towards their idol.

Obviously Super Junior can’t compete with Charice. The R&B princess from Philippines has the charisma, the vocal talent and the personality to move the audience, while Super Junior is just a dance party on the go. However, it was great to see Kyu Hyun receiving the spotlight he truly deserves, but Lee Teuk the leader’s reaction to the duet was too sensitive for my taste. But then again, it’s my fault for expecting these flower boys to act like normal heterosexual men. My apologies.

  2. 2 Zheed October 26, 2007 at 7:29 am

She’s really good. I heard she already got contract offers from SM and other Korean entertainment companies, and one from Japan. It’s crazy..

  3. 3 eugene October 26, 2007 at 7:32 am

    Nice~
    shes really good!
    as for suju…
they don’t suck, but I think that there are wayyy to many people in the group and their songs arent too good.

  4. 4 Zheed October 26, 2007 at 7:34 am

Her full name is Charice Pempengco

I think it was a little oversensitive in some ways, but then again you have to understand. They(Kangin was tearing a bit too) were probably thinking about how he has finally recovered, and seeing him perform in full health must have sparked something. I’m a Suju fan myself, but even I know that Kyuhyun is one of the few in Suju that can actually sing..I’m glad he’s back =) And another possibility is that they were just ‘tearing’ for the show. You know, there were a lot of people accusing of Heechul of ‘fake crying’ on Star King that one episode when the blind child came out..Anywho, this episode was a pretty good one, so I recommend it to everyone. Its hard to find a good episode of Starking these days..Oh and I forgot to mention, Charice is AMAZING. I get chills when I listen to her sing..

  13. 13 lyn October 26, 2007 at 8:26 am

    Wow, she is super talent!!!

So what do you guys think, another elves’ victim?

  14. 14 nicole October 26, 2007 at 8:29 am

Wow she’s so talented! It’s cool that she’s from the Philippines and got offered contracts from SM and other companies. I think she’s gonna make it big.

  15. 15 lilkrnxangel October 26, 2007 at 8:40 am

shes better than any of the members in suju. well not a surprise. but she has an amazing talent!

  16. 16 freshhhh October 26, 2007 at 8:47 am

Kyu Hyun deserves the spotlight, definitely. He is an amazing singer and I’ve fallen in love with his voice. :) Charice was also just… wow. That’s what you call TALENT.

  17. 17 miyaki October 26, 2007 at 8:51 am

she’s really good. i already saw that episode before like tons of times already but i’m still blown away. she’s only 14 btw. and i hope she wouldn’t be the next target of elves just coz she met suju. lol at least she’s living in a diff country

  18. 18 jyyjc October 26, 2007 at 8:54 am

    wow…i’m liking her already..

  19. 19 Reikonan October 26, 2007 at 9:24 am

Charice is amazing. Even the Suju members went wow! haha! you wouldn’t expect that a small girl like her could have such voice.

I just want to give the correction. Charice is not the R&B princess in the Philippines…Kyla is, another great singer.

  20. 20 abc123 October 26, 2007 at 9:26 am

damn..i still cant believe such powerful n strong voice cumin from such a little girl..her english is good also..wow..im blown away..

  21. 21 janepak October 26, 2007 at 9:32 am

ahahaha “no no no no no~ you are so short short short!”

    hilarious!!!

love the way she sounds, looks and acts!

  22. 22 zen October 26, 2007 at 9:42 am

Wow she’s amazing.. but about her being victim to “elves” they can’t reach her, they only reach out from cyworld and leave nasty comments that way. There’s no way they can do anything because their a bunch of cowards. What are they going to do start rumors about her online? She is well beyond their reach, and for that I’m glad. Also she has such a great voice for someone her age, I’m really in awe, and she’s so cute~! :D

  23. 23 jindarae October 26, 2007 at 9:42 am

She got a great voice! SM should get her… I’ll ask somebody from SM later. :)

  24. 24 RockinAzn October 26, 2007 at 9:43 am

OMG! i watched that! it was hella good! kyuhyun looked so…… fine, so did Donghae! i love that girls voice too!

  25. 25 Ptenk October 26, 2007 at 9:43 am

She seems too full of herself. She’s gonna need some plastic surgery.

  26. 26 hearmeroar October 26, 2007 at 9:50 am

@Ptenk.. HAHA. kinda harsh, but sort of true? but she IS really talented, that i have to admit.

i think eeteuk’s reaction wouldn’t have seemed so weird to me if he had a better outfit + hairstyle.

  27. 27 zen October 26, 2007 at 9:53 am

Kindly refrain from ever talking again,”Ptenk”. Honestly she’s fine the way she is, she doesn’t need to starve herself like every other singer out there, and she doesn’t need to look perfect to succeed. There are plenty of successful people out there that make it on talent, and talent alone.

Don’t insinuate that she won’t be successful because how she looks because that’s ignorant and crude. She’s good singing in English so if Korea rejects her I’m sure she’ll succeed in the States.

Also what is so great about plastic surgery, it looks unnatural, and you’re not using the features that you were endowed with. Beauty is subjective and for that I personally don’t think that she needs to change.

I don’t know where you got this “I think she’s so full of herself” because that was not apparent in the video, and plus she’s 15, to have that kind of talent at that age is truly a gift and if you can’t accept her for it then fine. If you prefer people who go through like so many surgeries that it makes their face look plastic then be my guest, no one’s stopping you but don’t go making assumptions you can’t back up.

  28. 28 Ptenk October 26, 2007 at 10:00 am

Zen, it’s funny because you tell me to not make assumptions that I can’t back up. You don’t know me and obviously didn’t get my little sarcastic comment there.

You have told me to refrain from ever talking again, assumed that I was saying that she needed plastic surgery in order for her to become sucessful, and argued against my opinion about being full of herself.

I never bashed on your comments or got so worked up, so please chill out. Thanks :D

  29. 29 miyaki October 26, 2007 at 10:07 am

me too. i never really thought that she’s full of herself. come on. confident is the more aproppriate word to describe which is a positive word in my book.

  30. 30 ames4eva October 26, 2007 at 10:08 am

wow, she is pretty darn amazing! anyone know if there are subs for that episode yet? thanx

  31. 31 Ptenk October 26, 2007 at 10:08 am

    hearmeroar,

Oh yeah I def. agree she is talented. The plastic surgery comment was pure sarcasm haha.

  32. 32 DT October 26, 2007 at 10:10 am

Her voice is great. But if she gets picked up by SM ..omg…they’re gonna make her get surgery >.<. Still i love her voice.

  33. 33 Ptenk October 26, 2007 at 10:12 am

    Miyaki,

Haha that was just the vibe I got and it’s solely my opinion. Nothing wrong with expressing my opinion right? Heh.

  34. 34 miyaki October 26, 2007 at 10:21 am

ptenk, nothing wrong with it coz that’s just what i did, i was just expressing my opinion which happens to be opposite your impression of her. peace. i’m not here to make war. lol

  35. 35 Ptenk October 26, 2007 at 10:25 am

    Miyaki,

Haha I totally agree. I am on the same page as you. Constructive comments about others’ posts are happily accepted by me.

  36. 36 valski October 26, 2007 at 10:44 am

    galing ni charice!
    she’s so good!
    represent for the philippines!

    thanks for showcasing this popseoul!

  37. 37 ed October 26, 2007 at 10:50 am

ptenk, i hope she’ll go very far as she deserves, without surgery. remember people like ella fitzgerald, nina simone, etc. were not legendary because of their looks. she has the potential to become as skilled as them. i tried to look for the conceitedness you mentioned, and only saw a very grounded girl with huge confidence. talent and knowing what you love to do for life can make you a very secure person, which is sadly not as common as it should be among girls her age.

  38. 38 yala October 26, 2007 at 10:51 am

    the best girl

  39. 39 zen October 26, 2007 at 11:21 am

Oh, excuse me for not being able to pick up on the oh so ever apparent sarcasm. (that was sarcasm FYI) Online it’s hard to know whether or not you’re being sarcastic or not, so when people see comments like that there are bound to be people that defend against those kinds of comments. So if you don’t want people getting worked up over your comment you should specify your true intentions.

But I do apologize for getting worked up over a comment like that, it was uncalled for, and I understand that. Although yes I did not pick up on your sarcasm, it just got me really angry that people would assume to be successful you also have to look aesthetically pleasing, by getting plastic surgery. Now that I know that wasn’t what you really meant I’m sorry for my rash retort to your comment.

Also I had no business harping on your opinion on how she “came off as” but in the heat of my anger I ceased to see reason and that was the result, so I hope you can accept my apology for a poor analysis of your post. I mean clearly the diction used in your comment points out the the relative verbal irony of your statement. :D (just kidding).

  40. 40 Aya October 26, 2007 at 11:24 am

Her speaking english is good, her singing engish is iffy, her voice is fantastic, though she needs to learn what they call ‘dynamics’ and she can really rock it!!! I am proud to see this!! What a gal! Work on your hair, though, girlie.

  41. 41 Aya October 26, 2007 at 11:27 am

“She seems too full of herself. ”
It’s called confidence. It happens when someone is really good at something. (No doubt she walks the fine line, but really she probably is simply aware of her talent. Which needs to be honed but she knows not the ways of so called ‘buildup’ yet)

  42. 42 nina October 26, 2007 at 11:27 am

she’s so adorable! she doesn’t even look 15, more like 12 lol! hope she makes it big, without having to resort to selling sexuality though =_=”
i like super junior, but seeing them everywhere is a little tiring :/ when i see leeteuk’s and kangin’s hairsyles it still makes me flinch >_<”

  43. 43 kk89 October 26, 2007 at 11:28 am

wow charice is great!!! hahaha… I can’t believe she lost in LITTLE BIG STAR in abs-cbn… last time i saw her was in wowowee……. mabuhay ang pinoy!

  44. 44 causeimcoollikethat October 26, 2007 at 11:33 am

OMG! her voice is sooooo DOPE!

  45. 45 xelca October 26, 2007 at 11:46 am

charice pempengco was a contestant in the show “Little Big Star”. too bad she was only first place though. i haven’t seen her on tv for months so it is a shock that she’s been to korea and sang with Kyuhhyun! whoah… i envy her. hahaha! go Pinoy!

  46. 46 yetaz October 26, 2007 at 11:50 am

NO POPSEOUL. you didnt have to please these suju fans. sigh. they’ll just come and bash you for dissing their pretty boys. anyways, yes this girl on star king was quite impressive.

  47. 47 joojoo October 26, 2007 at 12:04 pm

hehe popseoul, once an asshole, always an asshole <3 love you!

I loved the Kyuhyun and Charice duet!

  48. 48 classicaldancer October 26, 2007 at 12:06 pm

OMG, i remember when Bianca Ryan sang this song on America’s got talent! I think she was even better than this girl! Here’s the link to watch…it’s absolutely breathtaking and she was only 11 years old with no formal vocal training!

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=cqreUjfXZrs

  49. 49 lalala October 26, 2007 at 12:07 pm

^that girls got nothing on Charice.

  50. 50 missmanderley October 26, 2007 at 12:23 pm

she’s really making all of us filipinos proud… although her voice is mature for her age…

and she sang with Kyu Hyun… whose one of the more decent singers in SUJU imo.

  51. 51 classicaldancer October 26, 2007 at 12:35 pm

lol. to lalala’s comment…i really can’t decide between their voices because they’re both so talented.

i loved charice and kyuhyun singing a whole new world! they complemented each other’s voices very well…and kyuhyun again established that he has an amazing voice!

  52. 52 sTEFFANIE October 26, 2007 at 12:57 pm

wow IM SO HAPPY a fILIPINO GIRL that hAS REAL TALENT appeared on a foreign show, our country is indeed small but look at the talent!!!! fighting CHARICE!!! oh and so funny how the suju boys and HAHA reacted to her awesomeness!!! LOL

  53. 53 Cube0 October 26, 2007 at 1:05 pm

“it’s my fault for expecting these flower boys to act like normal heterosexual men.”

What do you mean with this? It sounds like homosexual men are not normal people or something… And sounds bad.

On a different topic, omg, that girl really can sing. She has an amazing voice :o

  54. 54 PVL October 26, 2007 at 2:04 pm

WOW! she really has an amazing voice at her young age, a God given gift talent in singing.

  55. 55 kewlnbubbly October 26, 2007 at 2:14 pm

Charice Pempengco is indeed a very talented singer…another product of a reality based star search of ABS-CBN called Little Big Star, she has truly proven her worth, even if she fell short of claiming the grand prize (Sam Concepcion won)…you have to hear her belt out the song AND I AM TELLING YOU (I’m not going) on that same show…i watched it on youtube at around 4pm, and my goosebumps wore off at midnight…she is that good! watching her sing on Korean TV made me feel so proud as a Filipino…

thanks popseoul for posting that particular Star king epi with SuJu…i think SM won’t be able to sign her up coz she already signed a contract at a recording company in Sweden, but then again anything is possible…

i love their duet too…charice really held her own against Kyu hyun

  56. 56 wink October 26, 2007 at 2:19 pm

u shouldn’t have judge teukie that way..u don’t really know how they feel..stop blabbering..

  57. 57 DM October 26, 2007 at 2:24 pm

That filipino girl is undoubtedly talented. But I don’t wish her to have any more confidence or else she’ll turn into a diva or something (ie Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston).
Other than that, keep up the good work Charice!

But dang, I never realized PopSeoul has so much filipino readers/fans. That’s cool.
Hey let’s trade Girls’ Generation for Charice, how ’bout it? Good deal, right? 9 for 1? LMAO.

  58. 58 Mics October 26, 2007 at 2:26 pm

OMG I never taught popseoul would do an article on this! I love Kyuhyun and Charice’s duet. Kyu Hyun has a good voice. Charice’s voice is mindblowing! I was watching this vid last week for like half a day. I don’t want to start watching again now or I might end up not getting any work done again lol.

Charice doesn’t need to get plastic surgery =) Unlike in Korean Entertainment, Filipinos find beauty in different looks/race/colors. We’re not really obsessed here with plastic surgery. I’m not dissing Korea because this is a personal choice, it seems like most celebs there want to have a certain look which ends up making all/most of them look alike. Pale skin, big eyes, double eyelids, cutesy image. In short, we prefer to have variety =).

  59. 59 bwahahahaha October 26, 2007 at 2:42 pm

    that’s old news but …

if she didn’t have any talent then she can OPT for plastic surgery.. (just like uhmm 90% of korean celebrities?!? HAHAHAHA! — sorry, i still can’t get over the fact that only a few korean celebrities have been written by popseoul as natural beauties! HAHAHA… anyway…) BUT THEN she obviously has a LOT of TALENT and her looks are perfectly fine, therefore there’s no need to try to compensate for anything. she’s not staying in korea anyway and she’s already recording songs that’s for US and UK release. so what’s the use of being perfectly-plastic (or plastic-perfect) when the rest of the world appreciate and value talent over beauty (unlike in Korea?)

She has an amazing voice, good stage presence and great skills to work the crowd. That’s basic to become a total performer. That’s a way lot better than trying to be cutesy all the time especially when it’s already gender and age-inappropriate.

  60. 60 kewlnbubbly October 26, 2007 at 2:43 pm

when i saw this clip, i was mighty proud of charice! too bad she didn’t win Little Big Star…when i watched this duet and when she belted out “And I am telling you” on the same show, i had goosebumps from 4pm til midnight…it’s really a defining moment for Filipinos, who live and breathe Kpop, to see their own on Korean TV and making that kind of an impact, gah,it’s breathtaking!

  61. 61 Cookhwan October 26, 2007 at 2:50 pm

I’m so proud of her as a filipino.

  62. 62 mandy October 26, 2007 at 2:50 pm

charice is so talented…and she don’t need to have some surgery because hir in philippines we need talent not looks…thats why many artist hir that have looks but dont hav talent are not that so popular..and besides charice looks is more pilipino…her complexion is a prove that she is pilipino…look when charice sang, super junior and other artist that also guest in star king was amazed on charice…here in philippines many kids that younger has a good voice like charice…sam concepcion defeated charice because sam has also talent in dancing and he earn more votes than charice thats why he defeated charice but charice has more voice than sam…but were proud on both of them.. were pruod to be pilipino…

  63. 63 proudtobepinoy October 26, 2007 at 2:50 pm

    @ DM

ROFL… trading Girls’ Generation for Charice.. Sorry, we’ll still take Charice. But if you put in SUJU.. DBSK… hmmm… Interesting… okay, never mind.. I’ll still go for Charice. ROFL

  64. 64 uhuh October 26, 2007 at 3:02 pm

I knooow! Leeteuk was just little too emitional….
    i was like y u cryin? u r old! lol :P

  65. 65 mandy October 26, 2007 at 3:03 pm

even tough girls generation has more looks, charice has more voice…im not saying i’lll go for charice bec. im filipino, ill go for charice bec. she has strong voice than girls generation…but girls generation also good in singing and dancing…

but if it is girls generation vs tszx the grace…ill go for tszx the grace…

  66. 66 mandy October 26, 2007 at 3:10 pm

maybe leeteuk was so happy that suju are now complete..and their are all fine…

  67. 67 mzpakipot October 26, 2007 at 3:16 pm

(: this is better than sandara park post! haha
good luck to both of ‘em…..

  68. 68 Justine October 26, 2007 at 3:49 pm

This is why I’m proud to be a Filipino. Charice is just amazing.

  69. 69 Ptenk October 26, 2007 at 4:07 pm

  71. 71 yeoreum October 26, 2007 at 7:30 pm

    many filipino read popseoul… that’s really nice…

the girl has big voice indeed…

i saw hee chul tear many times in various shows… i mean, there really are people who easily cry or tear..

    i still like him anyway…

  72. 72 mawee October 26, 2007 at 8:00 pm

of course, who would not read popseoul~ Philippines is taken away by hallyu~ in the mornings there’s korean dramas on tv then on late afternoons and then on evenings there’s still korean dramas~ ! LOL! I’m saying filipino’s like korean entertainment I guess.

And wow, Charice was really good, some weeks or a month ago she topped yahoo korea in the internet search~ she’s like a UCC star already that is~ hehe proud of her, and at least she’s confident.

  73. 73 Xtineee. October 26, 2007 at 8:45 pm

    Oh my god.

    That was like wooow.
And she’s from the phils! That’s awesome! I am as well! LOL
and omgg….that was just awesome <3

  74. 74 Blahblahbon October 26, 2007 at 9:28 pm

    i hate elves.

  75. 75 sarah October 26, 2007 at 10:07 pm

its sad that she didnt win that contest in the philippines, i was also routing for her, but i also like sam though, when i saw this i was like wow! i didnt expect her to be singing in Korea! maybe because i havent been seeing her in shows. probably busy, like me, filipinos are oh so proud of her, i hope she becomes really successful, not only in the philippines but the whole world, or parts of it atleast.

  76. 76 louella October 26, 2007 at 11:13 pm

well.. an elf victim why not?? all i can say was that there’s this i think some kinda brach of elves here in the philippines.. so if ever charice will read this be careful..
…. its true that the real elves wont reach her.. but the filipino elves can.. ..

…and yeah shes talented i should be proud that she’s a filipino..

but i cant because im an ..

  77. 77 yourz16mine October 27, 2007 at 12:49 am

you are so funny guys…you are so amaze, shock to charize what more if you will see other philippine singer which is better than her. im not bashing her but she is just one in a million filipino people who can sing like that..there are some younger than her actually..about the english factor..being the philippines as a english country is for me the reason for us to be good on it..just search in youtube: little big star and little super star..there…be amaze…be more amaze……….

  78. 78 Nikki October 27, 2007 at 12:53 am

Filipino people admire people who look nice. They become famous when they look nicer. But fame fades away when they can’t prove that there’s more than their looks.

We, Filipinos, love people who have the talent, at the same time, the looks.

I am really proud for her because she showcased her talent in Korean TV. It was a shock for me. But this girl never fails to amaze me with her vocal prowess.

I hope she can make it big unlike the other talented Filipinos who can’t make their way to the Asian market.

  79. 79 Raye October 27, 2007 at 2:00 am

i think she should try America she can speak english and sing her ass off. She’ll make it. There’s no way she wouldn’t.

  80. 80 proudtobepinoy October 27, 2007 at 2:09 am

@ Nikki, actually if you look closely most our artists have been having stints/gigs/concerts all around the globe for quite a while now. It’s quite common and even expected. They just don’t make a big deal of it like in Korea. All you have to do is browse each artist’s website and you’ll see whether they are still in Asia, Europe, or America. Martin Nievera and Lani Misalucha even had and has Las Vegas shows, respectively.

*And speaking of Lani, did you see the Youtube vid of her duet with Josh Groban at his concert in Manila? Amazing!

  81. 81 ChocolateCake October 27, 2007 at 2:23 am

God. This girl.. I’m like, speechless. And she said she was a FINALIST in that show? The winner must have been.. crazily amazing.

  82. 82 Lore October 27, 2007 at 2:40 am

Hooonahhh! Man, she got the voice! XD I like her attitude too! And YYAYYY!!! KYUHYUN!!!!!!! I missed him so much!!!!

  83. 83 Eun. October 27, 2007 at 5:32 am

Their duet is really amazing and Charice is so talented. Nice to see real talent sometimes. Kyuhyun really has such an amazing voice too.

And Eeteuk does cry too much. I wish he wouldn’t.

  85. 85 mjc October 27, 2007 at 6:36 am

    Mahhhhn!
    Shes so GOOD!
Amazing. She can sing and dance!
But I just hate her outfit.
Makes her look like an eight year old
    o____o

  86. 86 :) October 27, 2007 at 8:21 am

    Ptenk- I kinda agree…?
She does have a show-offy vibe. But Its not her fault. Her singing is just way too awesome. If I sang like her, I probably would be really concieted too. Haha.
    Shes amazing. Im so jealous.

And her duet with Kyu was beautiful too. ^^
    They both got the skills.

  87. 87 tangy October 27, 2007 at 11:10 am

hahaha this is like suju full house all over again

  88. 88 keira October 27, 2007 at 11:25 am

ive watched the episode over and over again and i still can’t get enough of it, i know im being bias by saying this but WE FILIPINOS are the best when it comes to singing hehehe (just my opinion) im sure a lot of people would agree with me, but did SM really offer her a recording deal? wow that’s amazing…its just too bad she already has one, but i do hope she makes it big in Korea, Japan, China etc. i have no doubt she’ll make it bigger in the US/UK, and about Bianca if she is better than Charice where is she now? has someone offered her a record deal? personally, Bianca needs more training on stage, she may have the looks but talent will get you far.

  89. 89 :) October 27, 2007 at 11:56 am

she’s a great singer, so great that it’s scary. 15 year old girl with a really powerful voice. i bet super junior guys were embarrassed how well she can sing… cuz they SUCK!

btw. they look like bunch of barnys

  90. 90 dfgdfgf October 27, 2007 at 12:10 pm

Wow, you really hate homosexual’s huh PopSeoul? You’re pathetic. You’re no different from the racist/sexists/and idiots on the streets who think that a person’s race/sex/and sexual orientation makes a person less of what they are.

I hope one day you learn how idiotic you are. Which you probably won’t, since you’re just that incompetent.

  91. 91 mzpakipot October 27, 2007 at 12:57 pm

hmmm….i think sarah geronimo sing better than her. but good luck to charice.

  92. 92 akon October 27, 2007 at 2:34 pm

  94. 94 pinaygurl October 27, 2007 at 3:16 pm

wow charice is also in popseoul…i heard she’s now recording in Sweden?if i’m not mistaken…way to go Charice..another filipino pride…!!!!

  95. 95 Cookhwan October 27, 2007 at 3:18 pm

Go filipino!!! I’m so proud to be filipino.

  96. 96 someone18 October 27, 2007 at 8:28 pm

yeah she is a great and talented singer but she is not even popular in philippines even with that wonderful talent.. she is not yet even recognized by most people in our country if they don’t watch the singing contest “a little big star”.. i am a filipino myself, but i wouldn’t have known her if i didn’t watch this episode of star king.. maybe after years or when she have reached 19 or adulthood something, she might soon be popular [i hope] she is not pretty at all.. sometimes, filipinos ar only up to looks and next is talent..

  97. 97 anonymous-y October 27, 2007 at 8:46 pm

hey, what’s that kid doing on korean tv? just a year or so ago, i was watching her on tfc and now she’s there? wowza. anyway, there are suddenly so many filipinos here.. heh.

  98. 98 anonymous-y October 27, 2007 at 9:03 pm

    heechul is so funny!!!
    “my brother” lols. too funny.

charice is obviously enjoys the attention/admiration and all.. can’t say thats a bad thing, except maybe when she starts growing up, and being a precocious kid won’t work as an excuse anymore.

still..if you really wanna succeed as a performer, you gotta love all the attention and just revel in it. that’s the high and that makes her shine, i think.

  99. 99 lazybum October 27, 2007 at 9:14 pm

lol, i thought it was funny how they had to bring in extra chairs for all the boys… XD

  100. 100 choiaera October 27, 2007 at 11:09 pm

well.. even the first time i saw charice i didnt like her.. yah she has the talent but.. i think she was overconfident.. she and heechul are not close where did she get the guts to hold him like that..
actually im so glad that sam won the contest before.. anyway how in the world did she get there i know she already won a lot of contests on other countries but nevr thought she would go to korea.. and imgine meet my idols.. whoo.. i cant accept it.. ive been a charice hater ever since, but anyway if sam was the one who got the chance to go to star king maybe i would be happy.. and i would be happier if sam was the one rumored to have offers from sm entertainment.. yeah charice has the talent.. but sam has enough talent and looks.. its just balanced..

  101. 101 Shin[hearts]KANGIN!! October 28, 2007 at 2:22 am

AHAHAHAHHA!!! dang..she has such a beautiful..powerful voice!!! it’s great!! haha! it’s so funny how teukie and kangin went and gave her some water and wiped her face! hahah! and Heechul and his “yo man..my brother” haha! funny!

  102. 102 Mut October 28, 2007 at 3:09 am

I also think she’s a bit overconfident. If what the others Philippino here said about she’s not really the best or big, and only one in a million is true, well…I hope her mother and aunt not only taught her how to sing but also teach her to be humble and thankful.

biased, but I’m irritated by all the pinkness of her

at first I thought she’s 10 or something. She looks too young to be 15…*look at WG* *look back at her* Wow, how diverse 15-ers are…

  103. 103 Redzuan October 28, 2007 at 4:50 am

Wow !that wuz a mind-blowing awe-inspiring performance from
a 15 yrs old girl ! !In my part of the world I only know of
Rivermaya and lea salonga. And now her !

  104. 104 fil-kor gurl October 28, 2007 at 5:32 am

she’s a good singer but not popular in the philippines. singers like her are a dime a dozen in the p.i. there are far better singers who do not resort to just vocal lung power or belting. but i guess in korea they might find that awesome. :) here, every newbie singer tries to belt that is why it can be so irritating at times.

  105. 105 enmity016 October 28, 2007 at 10:50 am

i’m actually irritated by that “all-over pink” clothes.

but dang, she’s really a great singer. she’s not that popular here in the Philippines tough..

  106. 106 emie October 28, 2007 at 12:31 pm

wait til you hear kyla (philippine’s r&b princess) sings. and regine velasquez…

  107. 107 Push October 28, 2007 at 3:53 pm

    was she miming?
she never seemed to tire when she was singin those big notes

or it might be the fact that she was so amazing that i thought she was miming

  108. 108 mylasan October 28, 2007 at 6:19 pm

@emi…wait til you hear kyla (philippine’s r&b princess) sings. and regine velasquez…

Regine, yes! But Kyla, I don’t think she’s that good compared to Charice.

  109. 109 pinay October 28, 2007 at 9:11 pm

This ep of Star King makes me more proud being a Filipino!^o^

Charice have an amazing talent as a singer that is really promising, but modesty aside, Charice is just one of the tons and tons of talented singers here in the Philippines.
There are a lot of singers here that are like, or even better than her waiting for their big break. But still, Charice is really a brilliant performer!

And by the way, plastic surgery here in the Philippines are not popular, or should I say rampant compared to Korea because it’s somewhat considered as a “minus” in the eyes of the society. It is the TALENT that really matters. And besides, MUSIC HAVE NO FACE.

  110. 110 samba October 28, 2007 at 9:16 pm

Hope they’d try to bring Sam Concepcion next time when SNSD tries to guest.

  111. 111 samba October 28, 2007 at 9:18 pm

^I think youre wrong, Pinay. If plastic surgery isn’t rampant in the Phils…then what the heck is Belo and Calayan for?

Tha good thing is that Filipino stars PROUDLY admit to their surgeries but Korean celebs press on that they’re naturals.

  112. 112 pinay October 28, 2007 at 10:42 pm

^I think u got it wrong samba… what i stated earlier is :
“…plastic surgery here in the Philippines are not popular, or should I say rampant COMPARED TO KOREA…”

yes, Dr. Belo and Dr. Calayan manifest that cosmetic surgery is rampant here in the Phil, but compared to Korea… its almost nothing. I hope it’s clearer now. ^-^

  113. 113 splat October 28, 2007 at 11:50 pm

whoah… that is one heck of a voice!! honestly, i didnt know who she is coz i wasnt a fan of little big star or any reality tv shows for that matter.. i only knew that she’s a filipino cos of her features… hell… she makes all the filipinos proud!! way to go..

  114. 114 voxypop October 29, 2007 at 2:02 am

great vocals. i dont know if shes overly confident or confident. the way she dances and moves are so much like a grown up. not forgetting her voice. initially, i actually wondered if she was lip syncing LOL.

  115. 115 splat October 29, 2007 at 2:25 am

as for the confidence level, i dont think she’s conceited at all… she’s just acting the “you’re-gonna-love-me” attitude.. i mean, that translates overconfidence right?! lmao… >.<

  116. 116 Proud to be Pinoy October 29, 2007 at 12:26 pm

    Wooaahh!!!

Charice is one amazing kid! i’ve been a fan ever since she started out in Little Big Star! I’m so proud of you girl!

and please sa ibang pinoy dito, instead na maging proud kayo kay charice eh talaga naman na pinagpipilitan pang hindi siya sikat sa pinas, na may mas magaling pa sa kanya, etc. my gosh GROW UP! just be proud of her and let it be, if you’re not then that’s a different story, i can smell “alimango” here! haha!

Anyway, Goodluck Charice and I hope your career will continue to flourish!!! AJA! AJA! FIGHTING!!!

  117. 117 vangee lath October 29, 2007 at 5:12 pm

where are the kids who can sing better than charice. they are all chicken who did not compete in the LBS contest so shame on them.

  118. 118 thunderstorm October 29, 2007 at 5:20 pm

voxypop, watch the video again and judge whether she was singing live or lipsynching. you can’t just accept the fact that she can sing, belt out and perform. it’s obvious that you are not a filipino who can’t even sing the do re mi fa so la ti do.

  119. 119 stormy07 October 29, 2007 at 5:34 pm

charice’s rendition of and i am telling you was very impressive compared to bianca’s rendition who most of the time struggled with her high notes and pronunciation. watch her other video too when she sang beyonce’s song ‘listen’ she hit the higher note of listen while beyonce didn’t. she has a bright future ahead if she chooses the path to stardom but if she thinks of a lasting career she’s better off staying in school and sing later.

  120. 120 AnonymousWhiteChick October 29, 2007 at 7:09 pm

Charice is definitely talented in singing. But I’m not sure how far she can go with it except for the Phiippines.
I see people discussing about looks and plastic surgery…

I can honestly say I think koreans are better looking—plastic surgery or not.
I see far more better looking koreans than filipinos. The filipinos I consider good-looking are actually only half or part filipino mixed with something else. Koreans I consider good-looking are 100% korean. But those who are only part korean come out more gorgeous than those who are part filipino.
As for plastic surgery I’ve seen on filipinos, it’s not as good compared done to the koreans (though there are exceptions that some koreans had it done bad). But this is hard to say because not all the koreans will reveal they had something done or not, and maybe same for filipinos.
Even with no plastic surgery, I see filipino girls where makeup to make their nose more defined than flat by darkening/shading the sides of the nose or something.

No doubt that filipinos have good singers, but koreans do too. The thing is koreans have more star-power shall I say? I don’t see a filipino boy/girl-band or artist that Asia is crazy about like they are for DBSK, Se7en, Rain, BigBang, etc. Or I don’t see filipino dramas going overseas. What I do know is you guys have good singers and you guys are big karaoke singers. I’ve seen the shows, your artists like to sing American songs a lot to perform.

Koreans lately have a POTENTIAL to break into the US market more than filipinos. Jasmine Trias isn’t that big, and I even remember her not ever mentioning she was filipino but Hawaiian when she was in TV for American Idol. It wasn’t until AFTER the show was done and filipino agents/companies wanted her THEN she shows her filipino pride. Vanessa Hudgens, Cassie, La Bamba actor, Apl from BEP, Rob Schneider are only part filipino but are practically Americans…

  121. 121 AnonymousWhiteChick October 29, 2007 at 7:27 pm

Since I now know a lot of filipinos read this site, I need to say this:
Filipinos are considered Asian, not Pacific Islanders.

If you already know this, then I suggest you tell your friends and families (especially in America) because a lot of them believe otherwise.

    It’s called research, do it.

  122. 122 pinay October 30, 2007 at 12:06 am

^AnonymousWhiteChick, do you have something against Filipinos that’s why you said these stuffs? You sounded so racist and you’re reply is almost farfetched with the post.

And besides, you don’t have to say that Filipinos are Asians, not Pacific Islanders… Just by looking the Asian map, it’s really obvious that we’re part of Asia, therefore we’re Asians… It’s like, you know, self-explanatory and common sense…You don’t have to do research to know it.

    Go! Filipinos!;D

In fact i prefer her version rather then jennifer hudson.
There must be something in the water if people are saying there are lots of good singers in Philippines.

  125. 125 gracey October 30, 2007 at 9:06 pm

i thought leeteuk cried coz he’s just happy to see kyuhyun finally back with them again after the accident? coz he told the MC so, when asked why he cried and thats why after that the camera focused on kyuhyun’s reaction who gave out grateful smile.. kangin actually cried too.. so there’s something behind it, not just merely overly-touched by the duet guys..

  126. 126 Mheaven November 1, 2007 at 12:09 am

That grl can sing..damn….btw i am in Love w super junior..every one of them..i know all of them cannot sing and there are tons of them, but they are entertaining,..isnt that the point of entertainment. Hahah even tho i love super junior i have to admit i also love when pop seoul bashes them..mainly because that is also entertaining. keke.

  127. 127 sam November 2, 2007 at 4:46 am

charice has an amazing voice!! kyuhyun finally got his recognition/props and it made me almost cry too. as for eeteuk’s reactions, was it overdone?? hmmm, well, considering he himself was a bit battered up from the accident, why wouldn’t the guy be emotional? it could have been him instead of kyuhyun. to be alive, healthy, and still singing - is a blessing - why wouldn’t you get choked up? if it was your friend or if it was you?

Go Charice!Show to the world that Filipinos are talented especially in singing….

  130. 130 Mingna November 7, 2007 at 12:04 am

super juniors got pawned by charice big time!

  131. 131 nov06 November 7, 2007 at 3:52 am

there are several comments I want to make

    1. Charice is an exact replica of Lea Salonga, a Phillippino opera singer, who debuted at the young age of 10 and made world famous through the musical Miss Saigon in 1989 (here’s a clip of her performance in Les Miserables http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1JO4p1FElw). Lea’s also the original singer for “a whole new world”. If you consider Charice’s age, she was born around 1992. I am not surprised that as soon as she showed any interest in singing, her sister and mother taught her to sing, at the age of four. They probably had the very early hope that a decade later Charice could become another Lea and sing on the world stage. This is hardly a fair comparison between Charice, who’s got 11 years of (I am sure at least half of them are) professional vocal training, and Suju, who’s parents probably wanted them to become doctors and lawyers, and never bothered with real vocal training. They did not received as many years of training, they did not train in only vocal abilities (but also dancing, being MC and others).

    2. Kyuhyun definitely has got lots of talents and could “fly on his own wings” right now if he wants to. But keep in mind that working in the entertainment industry (or any profession) requires not only talents but also social skills. I sense that being rather introvert in comparison to many, he would have had a hard time making himself recognized — just because he can sing really well, doesn’t mean there will be people (composers etc.) who are willing to invest their time helping him develop his career. Also, many people started liking Suju not because of their songs (I for one do not like any of their songs, except the cover of Happiness from H.O.T who were my idols from teenage years), but rather their personalities, maybe it be witty, caring, cute, stubborn, or in Heechul’s case, totally random. It is true that most of the so called “elves” are going after their looks. But as time goes by, it really is the amount of effort they put into their work that impresses people.

    3. These ‘freaks’ are mostly in their teenage years and early 20’s. What do you expect from guys of this age anyway? Other than a small portion, most university students are gaming like hell and not worried about the future at all. In comparison, We’ve got a group of young boys, even though mostly immature and rather short on formal education because of the amount of time they invest in performing, that tries really really hard in achieving their dream of entertaining people, fame, money, whatever. All I am saying is that I rather look at those who are sleeping less than 6 hours a day and working towards their goals, than those who are ‘well educated’ and eating off their parents.

    4. If you watch the video carefully (I don’t actually even speak Korean so I had no idea what was going on), it was Leeteuk who suggested that the duet be on “a whole new world”. If you look into Kynhyun’s audition tapes, that was one of the songs he has been singing for at least a couple of years — all the members probably know this. Leeteuk, being a good leader, rather than jealously suggesting something totally random, has put Kynhyun in a favorable position by slipping in the song and make everybody think that KynHyun is just gifted beyond all means.

anyway, all I am trying to say is that with their faults, incompetence, immaturity, all that, suju is still hopeful. How about waiting for another 10 years before slashing out on them?

  132. 132 nov06 November 7, 2007 at 5:21 am

oh and, regarding plastic surgery, it is one thing people choose to do to themselves. May it be confidence related or others, we as a different individual have no right to say if it is right or wrong, as long as it does not do bodily harm to others, no?

about koreans. vs phillipino singing into the US — I live in the states and I don’t see why it would be a big deal — most of the foreign singers do not make it pass their ethic groups, unless they are English speaking with no accents. Considering English is one of the official languages of the Phillipines, I don’t see why she wouldn’t have an advantage “breaking into” the us market. Regardless, why is getting into the US market such a big deal? Americans are already full of themselves and why are the koreans/phillipnos fueling that false pride?

  133. 133 diablita November 7, 2007 at 3:49 pm

i hate her growling the songs. and i don’t like the outfit, what’s with that pink and sneakers together? it is like she’s attending a baby’s birthday party.

i admit she got talents, but polish her singing more.

everybody wanted to penetrate the US market, because they are indeed the best. but with tight competition, in order to survive is to have a great talent, a great machineries, and big names working behind the artist.

  134. 134 syra November 8, 2007 at 2:58 am

dunt u notice that heechul kinda blur when the girl talking in english..?
    lol..

lol @ all the Filipinos saying that in philippines it’s talent over looks. Isn’t that how she got screwed by abs-cbn who gave 1st place to a guy with looks and can dance a little when the show was obviously a singing contest.

  137. 137 splat November 11, 2007 at 5:46 pm

haha flip guy… u have a point!! i honestly dont think that sam concepcion has talents.. i mean.. i know he’s cute and can bust a few moves… but thats all.. there’s really nothing there.. just another pretty face to annoy me.. haha

  138. 138 lenada2002 November 13, 2007 at 5:53 pm

flipguy and splat i think the reason why sam conception won the contest was becasue of the text votes and not becasue of his looks

  139. 139 Tg November 14, 2007 at 1:09 am

Wonderful duet, the girl is amazing such a mature and soleful voice especially at her age, and for many adults for that matter. Kyuhyun was brilliant as well and sang the song better this time than during earlier auditions when he first started out. Check it out on You Tube for your self.
