Rain feels the winds of discrimination

10.25 rain2

On Mnet Wide Special Interview, Rain alluded to discrimination as the cause of “It’s Raining” concert fiasco. I’m not going to deny that discrimination exists, but Rain citing discrimination as an excuse for his failed concerts was distasteful, if not unethical. Perhaps the language barrier made him “feel” the winds of discrimination, but how can he blame his downfall on it when the fault is clearly on him and his incompetent management team? Oh, I forgot - Rain has no grasp of reality.

But enough about discrimination and Rain’s failures. What I really wanted to point out from the interview was Rain’s inability to entertain the audience with his words. Pinky recycled his hard luck story one too many times that I have become immune to it.

Pinky, if you want to become a world star, act like one and you can start by getting over your past and taking responsibility of your actions, even if the results are undesirable. Until then, you are just a mouse trying to take over the world.

If he needs a hug..or something…I’ll help him out :)

    Are those tacky tattoos real?

  4. 4 vanessa October 27, 2007 at 7:56 am

i think studying english killed some of his brain cells. ah, well. and i’m sorry, but pulling the discrimination card is a bit off-putting.

  5. 5 Omo October 27, 2007 at 8:10 am

My oh my. How I wish I was that tatoo however fake or tacky it is.
I’d like to echo Popseoul that I too agree that citing “discrimination” for the failure of his US leg tour is indeed very irresponsible needless to say a horrible PR move.
Regardless of the cause, he should have just said: Yes, it failed. Yes, those fans have every write to be angry with me. Yes, I am partly to blame and accept full responsibility for that blame by putting on a free concert for my US fans whom have lost trust in me. Yes, I will not hire friends or family members to promote, book or arrange any future tours I may be lucky enough to have in the states. Yes, I will take my shirt off at my next press conference where I will apologize and prove myself once again to my many disappointed US fans by announcing that I will treat each of them to a one on one dinner with me even if it means I’ll have to stay in the States for the next fives to accomplish that. Thank you.

  6. 6 Omo October 27, 2007 at 8:12 am

correction, I meant: next five years to accomplish that.

  7. 7 arainyday October 27, 2007 at 8:33 am

I can’t believe him. Okay, Asians and Asian-Americans haven’t exactly gotten very far in the entertainment industry, but lately they have been making lots of progress lately (mostly on TV shows).

Pulling the race card is just pushing it. The real reason it failed was the lack of competency and his arrogance. It’s just more cover-up to make it look like he is the victim, and more excuses not to admit his mistakes and apologize himself. The poor fans are the ones that are the true victims in this.

  8. 8 Dumpling October 27, 2007 at 8:41 am

    Son. Of. A. Whore.

How DARE he. HOW DAAAAAAAAAAAAAARE HE!!!!!

Ugh, I am so furious about this!! F*ck you, DRIZZLE. You insolent, unmanly, cry baby, pathetic little piece of dirt. America doesn’t owe you a g-damned thing. I am sick, sick, sick of people playing the race card every time something in their life fails. We get that crap enough IN AMERICA without having to be subjected to this horsesh*t from people OUTSIDE AMERICA. I am sick of people besmirching my beloved America and tagging us with the “racist” label. And by a foreigner!!!!!!!

Ugh, the nerve/gall/stones/audacity of this jerk. WHO exactly does he think were the ones being racist against him? Huh? I would like to know because in America there are many, many, many races/creeds/cultures. We are not a country of all WHITE PEOPLE. So who is he referring to when he speaks of this racism? Blacks? Whites? Arabs? Jews? Middle Easterners? Non-Korean Asians? Africans? Latinos? Hispanics? Who??

People didn’t go see Drizzle because

    1) HE SUCKS
    2) he is a KNOCK-OFF of every other British and American and Canadian hiphop/rap/pop singer who has come down the pike in the past 15 years
3)he has NOTHING NEW to offer
    4)he was marketed poorly
    5)he doesn’t speak english
    6)he is NOT INTERESTING
7)the only people in the States who know who he even is are a very small, isolated group of people who do not constitute a large enough fan base to fill the stadiums he was set up to peform in.

WE OWE HIM NOTHING. He had the EGO and GALL to think he would come here and be greeted like the superstar he is in Korea. He is NO ONE here and he is not entitled to ANYTHING from us. Motherf*cker.

  9. 9 Dumpling October 27, 2007 at 8:48 am

And yes, before anyone steps in to correct me, I realize PopSeoul said Drizzle cried of “discrimination” not “racism” but I think we all have it figured out than in the context of this issue, they mean the same thing. In other words, he is saying he was discriminated against because–presumably because he is Asian/Korean/Foreign–so that means people discriminated against him because they are RACIST. That is what he is implying. He just chose a different word, that’s all. Piss ant.

  10. 10 Raye October 27, 2007 at 9:01 am

Umm…. I like Rain… but i don’t feel him on this. I don’t believe it was because of race i believe it was because of StarM. But of course Rain won’t say that since he is still working with them. I just wish the whole thing would be dropped. I really wish Popseoul would stop making references towards it so ppl like Dumpling wouldn’t get so outraged. I mean seriously Dumpling don’t have a heart attack. If you hate Rain so much you wouldn’t get so angry.

  11. 11 DT October 27, 2007 at 9:10 am

Oh yes your concert failed on your own irresponsibility so blame the big bad white man. Man he’s starting to sound like Kanye West (although i love Kanye’s music) . Wat’s next? “George Bush Doesn’t care about Asian People?”

  12. 12 janepak October 27, 2007 at 9:24 am

    oi. his hair.

and yes he does need to separate his past life from his professional life to some extent.

and … discrimination was… it would’ve been scary if anything actually happened though especially since most of his concert dates were after VT.

  13. 13 ... October 27, 2007 at 9:32 am

oh please, way to pull the race card. i’ve seriously lost all respect for him lately.

everyone with half a brain knows that his concerts didn’t bomb because of discrimination. he just doesn’t want to admit that his management company screwed up and that he tried to do too much too soon.

  14. 14 ladida October 27, 2007 at 9:37 am

Popseoul, r u sure he wasn’t being misquoted? Some form of misintrepretation, maybe? Cuz’ in this article “10.22.07 [MyDaily]Rain: Thinking about love, but don’t even have time” where Rain discussed about his scandals….citing per quote: “Regarding some of the problems faced during the world tour, Rain expressed his feelings. “This is my first time to attempt such a big matter. Even though I want to continue to be earnest in this, but being an Asian has brought about some limitations. When the second world tour happens, I believe things will be a lot easier.” “Through this world tour, I’ve seen and heard and learned so much. At the same time it has made me realized that ’so long as I’m earnest there will be many people to approve’ or that ‘the process itself is more important’…these truths are extremely precious experiences. I am very thankful to every single fan.”…..unless someone can accurately translate word per word from the video clip, I don’t think he actually blamed his US tour failures on the race card. o.O

  15. 15 May October 27, 2007 at 9:39 am

*yawn* old news. I’m glad he pointed out this problem bc no one else would. I believe it’s the industry’s fault that he will NOT be able to make it in the U.S. :(

    However, Good luck OPpa Jihoon!

“Yes, I will take my shirt off at my next press conference where I will apologize and prove myself once again to my many disappointed US fans by announcing that I will treat each of them to a one on one dinner with me even if it means I’ll have to stay in the States for the next fives to accomplish that.”

I AGREE entirely. He DOES like to eat. *glomps Rain up*

  16. 16 May October 27, 2007 at 9:42 am

“Popseoul, r u sure he wasn’t being misquoted? Some form of misintrepretation, maybe?”

    Lalida, chill out.
We know that Popseoul does this for a living so just play along. The full article of the interview can be read at Rain-USA.

  17. 17 soju October 27, 2007 at 9:48 am

ah … way to go and pull the race card. it never fails to amaze me the lengths drizzle would go to to make his little clouds gather around him and chant their mantra of we-love-rain-no-matter-what. psssh. looks like his mo is to cry and turn things around to where he looks like the victim. man up, drizzle. man.up.

  18. 18 soju October 27, 2007 at 9:49 am

oh, now THERE’S a reputable source to go to to read UNBIASED accounts of drizzle. rain-usa is a joke.

  19. 19 joyce October 27, 2007 at 9:58 am

as the months go by, ive been losing my interest for this guy

why cant he just accept that his concert tour failed partly because of him..
    why???

    maybe its his ego

    he’s not the same rain

  20. 20 Mizaki October 27, 2007 at 10:07 am

    ANTI FAN MANIA!!!!

Who cares? Maybe this will actually get some attention and then.. gasp.. K-pop may make it overseas. Rather than being a bunch of rude antifans and saying “drizzle” all the time (which was only funny the first three times, you should at least respect that he tried. Plus, you don’t know the whole situation. Are you Rain? No. And even if he is just pulling a ‘race card’, this happens to musicians everywhere anyway. Americans won’t listen if they ‘can’t understand the words’. This is absolutely true. What if this was some ballad artist that got rejected like this? How about.. DBSK? Would you be making fun of them then? I bet not. So before you start going on some roll about how he’s stupid and all that, why don’t you actually think about the big picture? If he actually did things right, would he be promoted? No. There would be alot of problems. So even if the race card doesn’t apply here, it applies to the whole industry and it’s a shame that even when they collaborate, it’s bound to fail.

“Pinky, if you want to become a world star, act like one and you can start by getting over your past and taking responsibility of your actions,”

    /agree

  22. 22 jackie October 27, 2007 at 10:15 am

can someone please tell me what he’s saying?

  23. 23 Di October 27, 2007 at 11:07 am

    *giggles* I love you, PopSeoul~

  24. 24 yetaz October 27, 2007 at 11:13 am

and again DUMPLING takes the words out of my mouth. Rain is a crybaby who should never come back to America.

  25. 25 tangy October 27, 2007 at 11:18 am

this is really funny…and just [lain sad

has he been in a little box all his life where everybody’s loved him?? (probably has)

he needs to get a freakin reality check

  26. 26 Meru October 27, 2007 at 11:21 am

“Pinky recycled his hard luck story one too many times that I have become immune to it.” That has gotten little attention at least for me as there are many artists who came from the same if not harder background.

I’m pretty sure any artist who pulled the prejudice/race card in public for their own failure would get that thrown back in their face. Rain is no exception.

  27. 27 confused October 27, 2007 at 11:30 am

wow Dumpling! you really flipped with this post. but I don’t blame you.

did he think that breaking in to the US would be easy? look, it’s been his dream to making it big in a place where not a lot of people know his name. I commend his efforts, but not stepping up to the plate and acknowledging his mistake…

    man Rain. >.<

oh and by the way, The Staples Center just opened the NOKIA THEATER where concerts will be held from now on.
talk about bad timing, huh Rain?

  28. 28 gez October 27, 2007 at 12:00 pm

    he’s nothing!!

and eww, what kind of photo he made, such a cheap disgusting one…

  29. 29 em October 27, 2007 at 12:27 pm

    what discimination!!!!!

his concerts failed becasue he was terrible

i was one of the suckers who bought a ticket

  30. 30 eli October 27, 2007 at 12:38 pm

“like a mouse trying to take over the world.”
LOL. XD this leaves me cracking up real bad! XDD

  31. 31 ed October 27, 2007 at 12:48 pm

ok,,, those who followed the complex process of putting on (un)successful concerts, will obviously not fall for this sob story.

i think this is designed to appeal to people who are too busy in their lives, to catch his american quest fiasco play-by-play.

there’s nothing more universal and deep-rooted than the story of victimization at the hands of “superpower USA”. it gets you INSTANT sympathy and credibility. screw the details! boy should go run for f***ing office.

if your true character is shown in how you handle both success and failure, he is less than sparkling.

  32. 32 sjtm October 27, 2007 at 1:00 pm

if rain says he is discriminated that is his belief.. his own opinion and he is entitled to it..as you said he is nothing so why do you get so much angry at him?..if that’s what he felt we have to respect that..if you can’t accept that who are we to judge him also?..just praying that he will succeed in his carrer and just be good..and learn from his mistakes..

  33. 33 Triple6 October 27, 2007 at 1:11 pm

He needs to lose the ego, seriously.

  34. 34 rolleyes October 27, 2007 at 1:14 pm

I find it funny that people here who do not even understand a single word that Rain said on that interview will just believe everything this Popseoul hater says even if for all we know, s/he intentionally misquoted him just to have something to write on this blog that will generate more hits for the site. Taking advantage of people’s ignorance is a wonderful thing, isn’t it, Popseoul?

I’m not just referring to Rain. I’m also referring to SuJu and all other K-stars who are victims of this blog’s bias. You must know by now, Popseoul and all your minions, that despite stressing that this is a blog and you only state your opinions, a whole lot of other people out there think this is a Korean entertainment news site and everything you say is fact. Try to be responsible for once, will ya?

  35. 35 sollee October 27, 2007 at 1:37 pm

i like what rolleyes said..thanks..God bless..

  36. 36 Lim J Lover October 27, 2007 at 1:54 pm

stjm, people get pissed off because they spent mega bucks to see Drizzle in concert and he had some lame excuse every time he decided he was too lazy to get up off his worthless ass and perform for the fans who helped make him what he was before all this mess.

Honestly, I’m not surprised he pulled the race card. Everyone forgets the world tour “wasn’t his fault” Nooooo! JYP locked him him up in a closet somewhere and subjected him to hours of torture with the power of his plastic pants and a halter top. All JYP wanted to do was get back at him for getting off his magical pony ride. We just didn’t get the memo. *sarcasm*

  37. 37 sollee October 27, 2007 at 2:03 pm

i’m sorry but i don’t always believe in gossips and as rolleyes said let’s be responsible..that’s all..

  38. 38 AishaLoverLight October 27, 2007 at 2:04 pm

RAIN should’ve just said “no comment” to this question, because even after all this time I can’t even think of one logical explanation that could explain his world tour fiasco. Or better yet, he should APOLOGIZE to all of his fans, rather than making excuses of it and try again next year. Sure it’s a lot of money lost, but hey sometimes you gotta spend $20 to end up with $200. Superstardom is a gamble, not a guarantee so for him to say that discrimination played a part in his failure to produce an actual world tour is just stupid.

  39. 39 Lana October 27, 2007 at 2:08 pm

I agree with Dumpling! Even if managment didn’t screw up. His fan base in the States is very very small…His ‘takevoer’ would’ve failed simply because he doesn’t have the numbers on his side.

  40. 40 DUMBO October 27, 2007 at 2:24 pm

    few…more…inches…lower………

  41. 41 akon October 27, 2007 at 2:24 pm

yeah he needs a reality check.

  42. 42 candy October 27, 2007 at 2:41 pm

why can’t he just accept the reality and bear responsibility for the failure? Hmm, blaming racial discrimation for his failure is not cool at all… I totally lost my respect for him!!!

  43. 43 XiaoXi October 27, 2007 at 2:42 pm

Oh yeah, there was racism–on Rain’s part!

He made a lot of assumptions about non-asians. He didn’t do any marketing or promotion outside of the Asian market and yet expected to be able to fill huge concert halls with not only those Asians but somehow non-asians were supposed to figure out not only who he is and what he does but somehow know when the concert was.

A quick visit to TicketMaster will show you that groups who are already well-known accept that their fan base would not fill those big venues and so have found more appropriate places for their concerts. And THEN THEY PROMOTE the heck out of those concerts.

And by the way: the performer is responsible for promoting him or herself. It is not the press’s job to figure out who Rain is. Why does he think people pay PR people?

It is insulting to be called names by someone that has done absolutely NOTHING to reach out to non-asians in America. If you want to see a racist, Rain, look in the mirror!

  44. 44 waaaah October 27, 2007 at 2:59 pm

maybe ROLLEYES could translate what Rain exactly said (in English) so the rest of us will not be ‘ignorant’ about the situation and likewise correct the ‘misquote’ that popseoul supposedly did. that would be the ‘responsible’ thing to do, right rolleyes?

anyway, if he couldn’t satisty his ‘very very small’ (according to Lana) korean fanbase in the US what more if he wanted to target the only-English speaking people in the US?

… and believe me, no matter what he thinks he is NOT that popular in ALL of Asia. If he really thinks that he is then this boy needs to surround himself with real friends and not people who’ll push his EGO up for further self-destruction.

  45. 45 Yaj October 27, 2007 at 3:00 pm

*sigh* This reminds me of episode 8 of Full House where YoungJae’s manager sets up the interview with YoungJae and JiEun to confirm the facade of a happy marriage and to cover up YoungJae’s blatant devotion to HyeWon so that his fans won’t freak out as they’ve all forgotten that he is indeed a human being whom occasionally makes bad choices/decisions just like everyone else.
*runs off to watch Full House for the umpteenth time*

  46. 46 uhh October 27, 2007 at 3:07 pm

hahaha claps for Dumpling post, although i would not have used that many curse words. hahaha

  47. 47 Cookhwan October 27, 2007 at 3:13 pm

Technically his language barrier will be removed if he uses some sort of micro ear-plug that translates every single word from audience into Korean real time and the other way around. If someone let him know what to say at every moment by that machine, there will be nothing to complain associated with language. Rain, use some technology and learn english from Popseoul.

  48. 48 Mila October 27, 2007 at 3:25 pm

rolleyes & any other crazy fangirls.
NEWSFLASH: PS isn’t they only blog to cover this.
But I guess everybody else misquoted him too.
    Pssh, give me a break.

  49. 49 mackten October 27, 2007 at 4:06 pm

they did a bit too much airbrushing on his abs.

  50. 50 fster October 27, 2007 at 4:19 pm

Discrimination is a lightning rod issue and if he did use
that as a reason. He likely failed in giving concrete reasons
    why he felt this way.

All the evidence seems to point to his own self demise thru
incompetent planning and overestimating his popularity outside
    of Asia.

I remember the Sunday NY Times had a major article on him.
And to see what has occurred, all that hype and self importance about being the first Asian to be a major star
in North America was a con.

  51. 51 jess October 27, 2007 at 4:31 pm

i know that this has nothing to do with the subject..but… i think he needs to change his hair style

  52. 52 steppie October 27, 2007 at 4:33 pm

Talk about language barriers? Some of you can’t even write a proper sentence. Perhaps learn to use proper verb agreement before commenting on other people’s English.

Why are there always negative posts about Rain? It would be interesting to see the reaction of this Popseoul person if someone actually decides to make negative remarks about him/her. He/she will probably get all defensive and start swearing. Seriously, people who swear are just weak in their vocabulary; they are verbally challenged. The least you can do is use words that actually have meaning.

Honestly, if you don’t like Rain, don’t even bother making posts about him. Do something with your life…do something productive. Quit being a parasite of society!

  53. 53 Nina October 27, 2007 at 4:39 pm

“you are just a mouse trying to take over the world.” …so Popeoul, you’re only insects who try to feel better than others by writing such bullshit.
    Thanks fot attention.

  54. 54 haha October 27, 2007 at 4:42 pm

It’s funny. He didn’t say anything about ‘discrimination’ in the interview. ‘lost in translation’

  55. 55 beautiful_girl October 27, 2007 at 5:00 pm

I wonder why many people often find things that could discriminate Rain. I think they’re just jealous of him being popular and known around the world. Regardless of his failures, I know he could still stand up and show them what he got! He could still be the best of all! GO RAIN! :)

  56. 56 rolleyes October 27, 2007 at 5:19 pm

waaahh: There already is a translation posted here (please go back a few comments) but since it was a legit news item that was unfortunately re-posted from a Rain site, it’s automatically perceived as ‘biased towards Rain’. That’s some sort of double-standard, don’tcha think?

Mila: so just because I had an opposing view, I am automatically a Rain fangirl. Wow, what a lame comeback. And yeah, it is possible that it was a misquote. In the press release that I read regarding this interview, the headline said discrimination, but nothing in the accompanying article nor the interview said so. Being lost in translation is a factor, too. But of course, who would care about reading and researching thru all that when the headline alone can be a good subject for another round of Rain-bashing? It’s the only thing brings in the site traffic, ya know.

    -

Accusing someone of discrimination or being racist is a serious matter, as serious as accusing a person of saying things which he didn’t really say. That’s why I said Popseoul should be responsible. Right now, people who don’t even care about Rain are hating him because they think he really said those things. Just because Popseoul said so. Is that fair? Is that responsible?

But ok, I’ll give everyone here a break. I wish there is someone out there who is good at both Korean and English who can make an unbiased and accurate translation of what he said just to - hopefully - put this issue to rest. And hopefully, everyone, be it fan or not, will actually take time to read/listen to the entire thing instead of just focusing on one word. I am prepared to accept what the results would be. Are you?

  57. 57 fact October 27, 2007 at 6:06 pm

I found another post about rain’s interview. http://hotkstar.blogspot.com/2007/10/rains-interview-on-mnet.html

  58. 58 waaaah October 27, 2007 at 6:21 pm

@ rolleyes, yes that was what i was hoping for, too.. an accurate unbiased translation…

@ steppie, perhaps you were referring more to ’subject-verb agreement’ rather than just ‘verb agreement?

  59. 59 lazybum October 27, 2007 at 6:36 pm

what a load of bull. seriously, he’s not the first asian to have concerts in America, and all the other people seem to have no problem. maybe it’s just you Drizzle, who don’t have enough fans. -_-

  60. 60 choo October 27, 2007 at 6:57 pm

Is discrimination the same as racism? I don’t think so. Racism is far deeper in context and racists are fat more pathetic people than those who discriminate.

For those Americans being “hurt”, he’s not generalizing everyone. Those were just for the people behind his concert. Why would he say he’s discriminated by those Americans who bought tickets to watch his concerts?

I’ve read the articles and it’s not as bad as how Popseoul puts it here in this post. Again, POpseoul — exaggerated.

Yes, he failed. But does he have to say it out aloud? Of course, he has to at least save his face. He’s saying all those stuff, it’s understandable.

  61. 61 shanny October 27, 2007 at 6:57 pm

    Dear Rain,

America isnt just a bunch of white people who judge everyone who isnt white…. America is made up of many different people from all walks of life. So if you think we will buy this race bullshit youre wrong. He’s just grasping at straws. I used to like Rain up until I started to get to know him lol

  62. 62 chay October 27, 2007 at 7:06 pm

He doesn’t have enough fans? Wth, that’s not the reason why it was cancelled. It was mismanagement. Why can’t some people understand that? Stop blaming him. Yes, he has his faults but not entirely.

And I also agree about this whole discrimation and racist thing, LOST IN TRANSLATION. Read through all the other articles and find out about yourselves. But of course, you would’nt do that since you all believe the writer of this article and basically all that Popseoul posts.

Btw, this whole Drizzle naming is so corny. Just my opinion. hahaha.

  63. 63 Mila October 27, 2007 at 7:59 pm

Rollseyes: yes, I’m pretty sure you are a crazy fan girl. You basically came on hear calling everybody idiots for believing PS when this same thing has been posted a dozen places before saying he said “discrimination” was to blame.

    I didn’t come on here to make a so-called witty “comeback” .
You replied I gave my thoughts on it. Where should I look for unbiased news? Rain-USA?
    Get the hell outta here.

You and every other fangirls…oh excuse me “supporters” flock to these post just like the bashers do. You spend your pretty little time coming here were all we supposedly do is wait for Rain post so we can bash him. Please. No one cares. I think that these superstars are so used to success in their own country; so they fail to realize that when they do come to America, they are basically starting over. They shouldn’t expect to be able to drop an album and have it be an instant success.

Also, listening to music in another language is one thing; but I’m REALLY SICK of having these singers release songs in horribly broken English and then wondering why the American public isn’t buying it. Frankly, it’s a bit embarrassing to me as a Korean American.

And yes, America does have a problem of accepting things in other languages. That is something that isn’t going to change for a long time. Complaining about it won’t do anything. Instead, they should go out and learn to be able to speak English comfortably and clearly. That really is the only way for a foreign star to really make it in this country.

I don’t have anything against Rain, nor am I a huge fan of his. But he really needs to get his ego in check and realize that “conquering” America isn’t going to be done in one sweep.

Time for Rain to say “mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa”.
(through my fault, through my fault, through my most fault.)
He did nothing to clear the whole fiasco. He did not took care for the people who lost their money. Did he anything for his US-fanbase?? Read this http://www.pollstar.com/news/viewnews.pl?NewsID=8024

Did he sue Star M or Revolution Entertainment Korea ? Did they reschedule one single concert?
Some fans say , he is to busy to control what is going on. What would he like to be?? Singer, actor, model , president of a company! No wonder he has no control, but ignorance makes you not innocent.

I seriously hate rain, but America not only IS the most racist country that i have lived in, but also the country to pull the racist card out the most. I’m sure he has realized this himself therefore thinking it would work if he used it too. Truth of the matter is Rain is a useless twat who’s career is going down the sewer and he’s coming up with more and more bs to try to help himself, it’s not working rain, and if the Koreans had any self-respect they wouldn’t accept him back either, who wants eomeone like that representing them?
Rain is a disgusting pig, both physically and mentally, i seriously hope he gets what’s coming to him, because he doesn’t deserve the attention and love he gets.

  71. 71 Cookhwan October 27, 2007 at 11:36 pm

In Ladida’s comment, there’s the exact translation of what he said. And I don’t get that why you guys talk about discrimination or racism after her comment.

You guys are writing thesis about Rain’s interview with fairly good english. I’m very proud of all of you. However, he’s not talking about either discrimination or racism. At the begining of the interview, he’s saying “동양인이라는 것이 조금은 한계가 있어요.” literally it means he has a little bit of limitation as an asian. It’s not from others. For example, how can you say language barrier is discrimination? Speaking english is the minimal requirement of being a singer in the states. In this respect, he’s not ready yet. and the later part of the interview, he’s saying “앞으로 두번째의 월드투어를 할 때는 훨씬 더 수월하게 할 수 있을거 같아요.”, “내가 열심히 하고 모두들 열심히 하면 그래도 그것을 알아준다라는거 그 과정이 참 중요하다는 것” He felt a lot of things due to the failure of his first world tour and is going to prepare for the second one. Since now he owns his entertainment company, such stupid technical problems he went through will not happen again for the second world tour. He’s appealing to his fans not by his singing or dancing ability but by showing his passion. And he thinks it will work out <- I think this is the problem. Learn english first as I’m doing now.

    thank you cookhwan..God bless..

  73. 73 Lily October 28, 2007 at 12:25 am

While I agree on the some of the sentiment in the post (very well put popseoul) and some of the comments, I think we’re alluding ourself when we say that there’s no such thing as indiscrimination in the entertainment business. If there isn’t, why Asian always referred as being ‘token character’ in drama series/movies abroad? Why Asians always play stereotypical characters (mobs, gangsters, knows martial arts)? I can’t even think of any Asian who ever made it as a successful singer in America (William Hung IS a joke. Coco Lee? Meh).

I don’t think it’s uncharacteristic for Rain to mentioned this fact - this is happening, not only to him but to every aspiring artist/actors/musician out there who tries to break into the American scene. It may deviate from the actual reason why those concerts fail, but the justification IS there. Is not easy, he knows it and one of the primary reason (besides originality) why people (local/international media especially) are cynics when it come to his intention of a successful transition into the American market.

I harbor no ill feelings when he said he want to make it there, world domination or not, but he needs to get A LOT done, English proficiency notwithstanding. That said, I think it’s harder for Rain to be completely open about what he feel because after all his success, we tend to forget that he’s human and can’t whine like we all do in our everyday lives. Everything he said becomes either a complain or nitpicky - he has so f*cking much right, grow a cow’s hide or something - though having not personally acquainted with him, only this much I can say.

  74. 74 em2007 October 28, 2007 at 12:46 am

As a Korean-American, I love seeing Korean entertainers succeed in the U.S. I feel a great sense of pride when these Korean entertainers are articulate and successful. Rain said that there’s a threshold for asian entertainers. Yes, that may be true, but that only means you have to try harder - you have to be original, bring something new to the table, and most importantly, you have to speak the language. He would be a better “victim” if only he’d humble himself and state that although he tried and failed this time, he’s just going to try harder to succeed. Don’t play the blame game and certainly don’t play the race card.

  75. 75 Eun. October 28, 2007 at 1:27 am

Oh, please. You’ve got to be kidding. His downfall or whatever it’s called lately is caused by so much more than just discrimination (if discrimination even makes it into the list somewhere.) He seriously needs to man up.

    His body’s bangin’ though.

  76. 76 Raye October 28, 2007 at 1:48 am

I think this post should be taking down or something because if Rain didn’t say that Popseoul why are you making ppl believe that he did? http://hotkstar.blogspot.com/2007/10/rains-interview-on-mnet.html

“After Rain’s interview on Mnet, Many Korean media said Rain blamed ‘discrimination’ for his U.S concert failure. I watched the interview video to find out what he really said, but it turned out that he didn’t say anything about discrimination or racism. In my understanding, he meant Asian entertainment industry might need more preparation to enter the world arena. Media just wanted to attract more audience, so it came up with the headline such as ‘Rain …discrimination…’. I am not a big fan of Rain(Bi), but I felt obligated to let non-Korean people to know the fact.”

    @ MILA, i’m not taking sides on ROLLEYES but i think you have mistaken ROLLEYES when you said, “you basically came on hear calling everybody idiots for believing PS when this same thing has been posted a dozen places before saying he said “discrimination” was to blame.” in response to ROLLYEYES’s, “Taking advantage of people’s ignorance is a wonderful thing, isn’t it, Popseoul?” -one’s ignorance is different from being an idiot. {i’m not going to elaborate on the two words}

First of all, what straight man would wear a jean jacket especially with no shirt? Not to mention that it’s open? I don’t care if that outfit is only for the sole purpose of modeling. It is cheeeeeesy, especially if his abs aren’t hard and defined as other muscularly fit men.

Secondly, that tattoo! I mean, seriously? How can you NOT think that’s gay? Of all places to put a fake/real/whatever tattoo, it’s decided to be in THAT area??? If it wasn’t his choice and the people who edit the photo, as the person in the pic I would say, “Oh hellll no! Take that tat out, it’s ridiculous!”

As much as I enjoy this blog I can assure you that PopSeoul does NOT mean enough to me to waste time posting numerous comments under numerous names. “I find it funny that people here who do not even understand a single word that Rain said on that interview will just believe everything this Popseoul hater says”

How is that not in so many words calling us idiots because we believe what was written by PS when this same thing has also been written by the Korean media it self? No I don’t speak Korean but I do read a lot of new sources & blog sites. If this has been posted on numerous other sites then I tend to believe it. So who has the right to come on here and say if not flat out but in the same mannerism that we are idiots for believing what is written here? Your just wrong.

You totally wrong because you keep saying Black Americans. No dummy. I’m around ‘Black Americans’ all day and none of them speak with a ‘Queens English’. I wasn’t aware that 50% of DC was made up of blacks who can only speak freakin ebonics.

Oh Dumpling you’re life must be really pathetic if you think a 3 figure salary is alot of money. LOL!!!!

    @ Raye,

You shouldn’t be so proud to be so thick. I think smart people know I meant almost 6 figures (the last three digits are ZEROS, stupid!!! Doesn’t everyone know that?). I sincerely hope you are just being an ass. I would actually feel sorry for you if I thought you were really dumb enough to think I meant ONLY 3 numbers.

    @ Sunny,

Stupid, you posted this EXACT same message (word for word and all in caps) in another entry under the name “Asayih”. you’re not too bright, are you?

“Why in the world would anyone with a “masters” come on Popseoul -”

You CAN’T be serious. Do you think this blog is only for STUPID people? There are a lot of smart, clever, educated people in here. Don’t be an ass. That is VERY insulting to the posters here.

And I will repeat: black Americans speak atrocious english (not all, but a vast majority). I have no issue with black people–I am commenting on their LANGUAGE SKILLS. If you can’t see the difference, screw you. I sincerely do not owe you any further explanation or argument. I’ve stated how I feel and not going to keep going back and forth with you. You get it or you don’t.

“Popseoul could make a post about Dumpling
to all people say what they want”

You don’t need PopSeoul for that, stupid.

Dumpling, you’re being annoying. When you’re a jerk to someone and spew assumptions, you’re going to get it thrown back in your face, what else did you expect?

It’s obvious that you don’t have three Masters, nor are you mature, clever, and brilliant, especially if you’re suppose to be over thirty. Please take your three MAs and your six figure salary and shove it in your mouth before you call someone else an idiot. Everything you said has no bases at all, you’re just whinning, lying and spamming this community for your own sadistic satisfaction. Of course, you’re free to reply to this with some real backing to everything you’ve said and prove my words wrong. But as we all know, you can’t do it without any childish name-calling or any ridiculous self-proclaimed facts. Have some self-control, save yourself what’s left of your face and dignity.

So what if I change my user name? Does it imply anything? No. Get over yourself you arrogant arse. You call everyone stupid who doesn’t agree with you.

You try to act like you’re so liberal and broad-minded saying things like “the
