Have you ever wondered why the Dong Bang boys are not crossing over to the states or Europe just like their peers, Se7en and Rain? It’s because these boys are managed by Lee Su Man who believes that one needs to conquer one continent at a time. Right now, the five Shin Kis are working hard to become the best in Asia, and then they’ll target Europe and North Asia.
DBSK’s story was picked up by Reuters, but it was evident that the writer was more fascinated by DBSK’s unique fan base than the five cutie pies. She started this high profile article with “backed by legions of teenage girls and middle-aged Japanese women old enough to be their mothers…” I guess we are not the only ones finding ajummas infatuation for these teenybopper a little disturbing odd.

When I was at a DBSK concert in Japan, I totally realized that I too would be one of those ajummas one day(I sat next to 2 older women). I’m 23 and I’ve heard that your musical preference is set by 27. So I guess I will be a boyband fanatic for the rest of my life:)

as sad as it may be but boybands will never go away. there will be a boyband for every generation. heck, mtv even has a new show…”making menudo” or something like that.
America is trying to bring back boybands so maybe DBSK might have a slight chance. DBSK would have to make major changes in how they are marketed in the U.S. because it is a lot more grittier (darker, sexier, more raw) than the East Asian market. It’s even harder since the major cultural ajustments will take a definite toll on the boys. And there will be racial prejudices that can very well break them.
I don’t think this boy group will be strong enough to handle all the pressure. But, hey, they may surprise me in the future. (if they choose to rough it out later on)
If worse come to worse, LSM can send DBSK as single artists to the U.S. But then that’d cause a riot in Asia..haha
My only request for LSM is for Changmin to become a male model.
Brrr, Kat-Tun… It’s true, I thought boybands were going to fade away after the 90’s, but you know that can never be true in southeast Asia. There are ones in the making to replace the ones that are already popular now.

I only said that because I know DBSK could have done better. Kat-tun was actually the first boys band that I looked at and actually liked (maybe because of Kame) but that is not to say I thought they were any good. Yes I actually saw tons of Kat-tun vids and followed them. (On the side track, I also saw Taki & co and the dance for that hit song of their, Venus. It was so damn cheesy but the Japanese loved it. Anyways I wasn’t into News maybe because they weren’t hot and still isn’t hot from this POV.) As for Kat-tun, their dances certainly can’t be compared to DBSK. I don’t recall Kat-tun had any cool dance that I liked. And they aren’t any good in singing neither. I enjoyed their skits and the flying stunts a lot though. The KT monomane was a riot.
I really do hope to see DBSK in America. They’re actually the only one band I really like for substantial reasons.

i must agree to some who said that DBSK would be perceived as gay/ gay-ish in America.. well I’m asian and I live in South East Asia and that’s what I perceived (though I DON’T really believe it to be true) from the tons of vids i saw (fanmade or not). Now if the DBSK fans would unite to remove said public videos with similar contents PLUS the HUG mv English version which I totally laughed at and can’t really tolerate listening to — even though I was pretty much obsessed with the DBSK boyz at the time… then DBSK might get a fresh start in the US (might… might.. who knows?..)
with regards to KAT-TUN and NEWS, I love their versatility rather than their voices.. (ugh really i can’t stand bubblegum pop anymore) . They’re really really talented — much more so than DBSK in my own opinion (sigh). And since KAME’s got really GOOD dramas along with JIN, TACKEY, and YAMAPI… damn i will still regard them as HOT! Oh man, and their concerts — W@W!… I really love their productions.. Johnny’s ENt. really knows how to train his boyz.
oh yeah, and i so much agree that KATTUN has a lot of SEX appeal than most Korean boybands… and I too LIKE it A LOT! A LOT!

I saw real face before I bid goodbye to KT. Seriously none of their dances was edged into memory. But I like the monomane version of it though. It was pure crack.
I don’t see bands that way. The word sex appeal is never in my dictionary as one of the reasons to like them. I may say they’re hot but the word hot to me has a different meaning. Sex appeal or not I don’t know but KT don’t really have the bods to back it up (or at least the last time I checked. I never was into their blantant fanservices on stage. That might have been the reason I stopped following them. Kame also tried too hard to be sexy and it became unbearable to me how silly things became. I used to respect him for his seriousness.)

Yes, and Kat-tun is even gay-er (as well as other Japanese boys bands. I was into the JP boys band scene before the Kpop scene.) I on the other hand think DBSK is a lot more talented than KT. And so the battle between JE and SM continues. I digress.
^yup.. the gay-ish thingy between East Asian boybands is quite disturbing for me too.. that’s why i’ve been sticking to their drama … well anyway goodluck to all of them..

Uh…I don’t really think the boyband era is quite over yet. People actually WANT to bring back N’Sync, BSB, etc. and I wouldn’t even compare DBSK to BSB…more like Boys II Men or New Edition cuz they aren’t just some pop band. They actually have soul in their voices and songs, so I think that would appeal to American taste. Plus, they would totally rule the R&B genre in America cuz that’s an area where people with good voices can dominate. Hip-Hop? Nah. Too overreated. Pop? NO. That would not work.
So DBSK, come and experience in America, this American will support you <3
Hey i just wanted to leave a comment. I am from America and i see no problem with them coming here. I love them more than any group ever and would support them always. I know alot of people here in America that love them. By the way, boy bands are not “over” here in America, i should know i live here. Can anyone say Jonas Brothers? Among others that are very hot right now. I seen Se7en on tv and it sure as heck didn’t look like he was having a problem getting noticed. Not all Americans are racist and narrowminded like the world seems to think. Honestly anyone that thinks all Americans are like that must be racists and narrowminded themselves. Don’t judge people unless you have all the facts about them or have walked in their shoes. I love, love, love DBSK always and forever!! ^__^
