Why is the “Tell Me” virus spreading like the plague?

10.26 wg

JYP did it again. He successfully created another “national” dance with Wondergirls’ relatively simple yet catchy “Tell Me” dance. The “Tell Me” virus has infected the entire nation with students, policemen, military personnels and even stars proudly showing off their own version of the Tell Me dance. I’m yet to uncover the special addictive power of this song, but check out how this virus has infected a once perfectly sane nation.

  2. 2 Se7en Heaven November 4, 2007 at 6:02 am

LOL hahaha xD I love this song, but I don’t think I’m talented enough to dance to this addictive song. I’ve tried but well… it’s horrible!!! ^^’

  3. 3 Jen November 4, 2007 at 6:03 am

  5. 5 Sarah November 4, 2007 at 6:17 am

What a coincidence. I click on “Tell Me” on my iTUNES and POPSEOUL! loads at the exact same time XD

It’s addictive as anything if you ask me and I find myself wanting to learn the dance too. People at my school are really obsessed with WG lately also.

  6. 6 lyn November 4, 2007 at 6:42 am

yea, the song is very catchy.
I’m an adult and I enjoy it.
I love the guy in pink and black pants. He’s freaking flexible and takes his dancing so seriously. he’s like doing a minor striptease for us. LOVE IT>

The police officers are absolutely fantastic.

  7. 7 wow November 4, 2007 at 6:47 am

    lmao
i dont know why, its just so addictive!!

  8. 8 se7enfan November 4, 2007 at 7:01 am

I don’t know why but I love this song and think their dance is cool…and the guys look good doing the dance too…except for the crazy lookin ones…lol. I never paid attention to them until this song.

  9. 9 yetaz November 4, 2007 at 7:11 am

    LOL. BRAIN AND HIS PLANS.

  10. 10 deathBerry November 4, 2007 at 7:12 am

I’m sooo agree with this post title.

  11. 11 ~HSG~ November 4, 2007 at 7:17 am

    I can relate.
I even find myself doing the dance while I’m listening to Big Bang.

  12. 12 May November 4, 2007 at 7:23 am

I am obsessed with Wonder Girls.
lmao. you guys should see them performing at HanYang University.
The audience was roaring like mad.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUtkHRic-50

and 90% were guys. awkward, huh?

  13. 13 junsufan November 4, 2007 at 7:29 am

It IS addictive!! :D I love the dance too..XD

  14. 14 yeli November 4, 2007 at 7:35 am

    that was HILARIOUS!
the guy in pink cracked me up…seeing a bunch of grown men doing the dance and being so serious about it was just too funny!

the more i hear this song the more it grows on me…and since the only part i understand is the chorus when they repeat “tell me” three times, that part always gets stuck in my hear after hearing the song, DAMMIT! lol

  15. 15 Adrianna November 4, 2007 at 7:36 am

tell me is truly like a virus. my lil brother sings it too and he hates korean music

tell me is everywhere and it’s so addictive

  16. 16 Milk* November 4, 2007 at 7:45 am

It surprised me why they didn’t add heechul to the videoclip. He knows this dance too! XD

  17. 17 Grace November 4, 2007 at 7:46 am

I think the dance isn’t as hard to do and people love catchy tunes with easy dances they can learn by themselves.

Kind of like Soulja boy here in the US -_-

  18. 18 chiaye November 4, 2007 at 7:58 am

LMAO! the only parts that got to me was the rapping.. and the “ahhhhhhhhhh~” high pitch yelling/singing towards the end hahaha!

if you guys watched it through you’ll see what imtalking about ahhaa -i watch for the entertainment of it; i dont like the song ;dance moves yes.

  19. 19 chiaye November 4, 2007 at 7:59 am

start watching *when yoobin start rapping.. it shows…. =]

  20. 20 Min A November 4, 2007 at 8:02 am

LMAO….JYP does it again…the song and dance is very addictive.

  21. 21 Lily November 4, 2007 at 8:03 am

“The 80s dance was very cheesy, –>the song wasn’t catchy<– and Yoobin’s rap segment did not flow with the rest of the song. I hate to be saying this, but their first single Irony was much better than this 80s reenactment. Did Wondergirls performance impress you?”
    Published September 11th, 2007 Popseoul

    LOL

  22. 22 Sang Kyu November 4, 2007 at 8:14 am

ewwwww i think this dance is so grooossss!! ><
its like, waaay too much snakey, wormy, wavey body rolling movements and hip thrusting and ewwwwwwwwwww T_____T

  23. 23 May November 4, 2007 at 8:30 am

I have to give JYP the credit for this so-called virus, don’t you agree?

After all, he was the first one to do the TELL ME dance video.

BTW, the reasons why there are so many videos of people dancing to Tell Me is

    1. The dance is easy enough for people to follow.

    2. It’s hella fun to do it!

    3. Wonder Girls are having a video contest of who can dance Tell Me the best. The 5 winners will get a dinner date with WG. That’s why the parodies are springing up like daisies.

  24. 24 lazybum November 4, 2007 at 8:57 am

it is freaking addictive… i’m no fan of the wonder girls, but that song and dance just get stuck in my head. i guess it’s true that simple and repetitive tunes/steps get stuck in your head easily… =/

  25. 25 Cookhwan November 4, 2007 at 9:17 am

I’m sure that there will be bunch of people who watch this UCC and shake their body getting into the “Tell me” rhythm tonight. At least one.

  26. 26 nina November 4, 2007 at 9:41 am

hahaha omg that song is very cute and catchy, even though wondergirls kinda stink :( it’s like that Gimme more song from britney, can’t get it out of my head LOL!
and gosh wow, some of those ppl in the video sure can dance! i LOLed at JYP’s dancing again hahaha, he really does look like a freaking gorilla.

  27. 27 Di November 4, 2007 at 9:46 am

    !!!
I think I just figured out the reason behind having these big groups!! When they dance or do anything it becomes hypnotic and makes you want to follow along!
JYP really is a master mind. o_o

  28. 28 CiiNDY November 4, 2007 at 10:48 am

a lot harder than soulja boy :l

  29. 29 Meru November 4, 2007 at 10:53 am

Hmm. Kind of like the Haruhi dance/Haruhism except it’s purposefully instigated to attract more publicity and popularity. Good ploy by Mr. 80s Clearpants.

  30. 30 Hope November 4, 2007 at 11:02 am

I love their Irony song, this new one is just huge and I don’t know why. Its alright but Irony and I wanna are my WG jams.

  31. 31 kiwee November 4, 2007 at 11:05 am

i actually really don’t like the song. it’s like orgasm-y techno-y, but i really like the part where the girl actually sings tell me in korean, and i really like the dance. i think its cute for a bunch of 11/17 year old girls to do.

  32. 32 princess.sharon November 4, 2007 at 11:23 am

    hahah

    cool. i like it!

  33. 33 Yaj November 4, 2007 at 11:48 am

Curses! I just caught the virus.

  34. 34 ail November 4, 2007 at 12:02 pm

they owe it to the producer of this song because quite frankly…they CANNOT sing…especially that one with the face like a 10 year old kid. good marketing i swear…it HURTS everytime big mama loses #1 to wondergirls…cringe

  35. 35 its_trish November 4, 2007 at 12:09 pm

I just watched that video.. than one of their actual performance of the song and dance..
My verdict.. I like the dance in that it is easily - or seems to be - improved/improvised when people (cue schoolgirls and police) change it up and make it look pretty fun.
It looks like a lot of fun and who knows.. I may be the next victim haha but no not the exact way that those girls dance it.. nah uh
I can’t say that I particularly like the song either >< all I understand are the.. “Tell Me”s repeated throughout..
Awesome video posted - thanks ^^

  36. 36 Bloo November 4, 2007 at 12:17 pm

I LOL’d so hard! Kind of creepy too.
Tell Me wasn’t so catchy at first, but after awhile, it sticks to your head like sugar glue.

  37. 37 Bloo November 4, 2007 at 12:18 pm

Ok, that’s super glue. See what that song did to me?

  38. 38 haru November 4, 2007 at 12:29 pm

  39. 39 haru November 4, 2007 at 12:31 pm

  41. 41 its_trish November 4, 2007 at 12:54 pm

    I lied.
It’s addictive.. that “pa pa pa pa pa Tell Me” part is just.. er just the ‘pa pa pa pa pa’ parts get stuuuck in your head!

  42. 42 giggie November 4, 2007 at 1:08 pm

haha..this is so funny many people imitate them..but its so cute to watch..LOL..so kawaii!!

  43. 43 nurkeyandie November 4, 2007 at 1:36 pm

the song, the dance moves, the wonder girls, the video of everyone dancing - kinda cute, in a creepy bubblegum-pop sort of way (the members of the group are really young right?)…no wonder your whole country’s addicted…the guy in pink really made me laugh (he can bust a move though!)…^_^

  44. 44 anaja November 4, 2007 at 2:00 pm

Tell me tell me t t t t t tell me & oh moh nah! This song is so much fun and addictive heheh ^^

  48. 48 hearmeroar November 4, 2007 at 3:31 pm

it’s the type of tune that gets stuck in your head… wayyyyy too easily. and the dance is simple enough for ppl to follow to..
tell me tell me te-te-te-te-te-tell me…

  49. 49 pony November 4, 2007 at 4:31 pm

lol somehow the guys look sissy with those dancesteps

  50. 50 Mila November 4, 2007 at 5:53 pm

LOL. I remember when everyone was dissing ‘Tell Me’ saying it wasn’t as good as ‘Irony’.
WTF? Irony was lame as hell. ‘Tell me’ isn’t Grammy worthy but it sure as hell is catchy.
Kinda sick of it now though.

  51. 51 kitty November 4, 2007 at 7:48 pm

    hahah
    i caught the virus!
i noe how to dance it :P

  52. 52 Vanessaly November 4, 2007 at 9:27 pm

LOL I’m infected too, I love the song

  53. 53 jaelune November 4, 2007 at 9:46 pm

i don ‘t like the song… since they sang it with big bang on music bank…. i don’t know why… i think its annoying…

  54. 54 snowpanda November 4, 2007 at 11:07 pm

    Just like Grace had said.
The tell me dance is the popular dance now of Korea
just like Soulja Boy is popular here in the states.
    But I have to admit.
I just love WonderGirls Too much not to learn the dance.
Learned it a few days ago and im lovin it!
    And it is very addicting.
I think ill teach my friends…

  55. 55 classicaldancer November 5, 2007 at 12:35 am

    lol. that was hilarious.

  56. 56 cassie. November 5, 2007 at 12:39 am

Hahaha, the song is really catchy.
The whole dance addiction situation is like a lot of people with Soulja Boy’s dance.

  57. 57 polynasian November 5, 2007 at 2:18 am

I really do not like the song but the video was fun to watch.

  58. 58 mzpakipot November 5, 2007 at 3:15 am

  60. 60 christaluvsdrama November 5, 2007 at 3:36 am

The song and lyrics are so CLICHE, but once I heard it…..it got contagious. I started singing after I was finished watching the MV….then I see your post and start singing it again. I want this song to go away! Out of my head!

  61. 61 misoshiru November 5, 2007 at 3:43 am

The entire video was hilarious, until whoever made the video used Luciano Pavarotti. For me, that was an insult to his memory.

  62. 62 janepak November 5, 2007 at 5:07 am

ahah even the people who don’t like the song have it stuck in their head

  63. 63 DM November 5, 2007 at 6:32 am

Ashamed as I am to admit it, but YES I too like to dance to WG’s “Tell me.”
YES, I kinda got the dance down.
And NO I’m not gay! Haha.

  64. 64 yetaz November 5, 2007 at 6:46 am

the guys are better than the girls at dancing.

  65. 65 skca November 5, 2007 at 10:05 am

omg, that should be their official music video! i would watch that! it’s more entertaining then them. lol.

  66. 66 Anna November 5, 2007 at 10:28 am

lol that video is frightening. haha the song and dance is just.. addictive. it reminds me of a fitness workout video.

  67. 67 honeyTHEhottest November 5, 2007 at 10:40 am

what?? this song and the dance are not addictive at all. geez, but of course, what more could i expect of jyp? he always copies off american artist. during his solo career, it was MJ, now it’s usher, beyonce, britney… and this crap song is ridiculous.

  68. 68 grace November 5, 2007 at 10:53 am

hahahah. korea is so super freaky that way. keke.

  73. 73 SAE-BIN November 5, 2007 at 10:21 pm

LOL EXACTLY. the other day i was youtube-ing ‘tell me’ for their song… and i saw a whole lot of these people dancing to the song. and there was this [cute] fat korean kid lip syncing to it. Lol i thot he was dancing to it only.. when he started to lip sync i was like.. o_O …. XD

  75. 75 funkoffan November 6, 2007 at 9:23 am

I nearly peed when Jay-Z does Yoo-bin’s part. I gotta say though Popseoul - Tell Me has infected me too. My bf and I are always singing it.

  76. 76 Kitsune November 6, 2007 at 10:29 am

  78. 78 Annie November 6, 2007 at 11:23 am

LOL! ahaha the clip is funny.
i guess you won’t know what’s so addictive about it unless you try the dancing yourself. i think its just for pure fun, heck it looks fun in the clip!
the song is catchy and the dance moves are relatively easy and fun to follow, i know if i knew the dance moves i’d be one of those people dancing along haha

  79. 79 Terass November 6, 2007 at 4:52 pm

LOL , when i first saw the mv of this i found this song weird, but gradually the song got stuck in my head .

  83. 83 Kiwi November 27, 2007 at 1:32 pm

Well the way the song “Tell Me” and dance, is just like the song “Crank That Soulja Boy” is in the US.

All catchy songs, and they aren’t going to go away anytime soon.

  84. 84 fraulein December 4, 2007 at 9:16 pm

My sister who hates anything remotely close to k pop hummed it yesterday. And boy was I shocked !

  85. 85 jaesa January 21, 2008 at 10:02 pm

  86. 86 O_o January 28, 2008 at 12:38 pm

If you were to compare the Tell Me dance/ song to something, the plague would we appropriate. They’re both annoying, and stupid. Wonder Girls cannot sing, the dances are stupid and there are just too many ‘cutesy’ girl groups these days… O_o

  87. 87 Steff March 27, 2008 at 12:11 pm

It’s so true!! Even in the Philippines…. It’s spreading! infecting almost everyone :) ((o_o))… Tell Me rules!!!! and rox!
