Drag Jang Geunk Suk opened up this mega event and everybody was dumbfounded at his performance. Nobody knew where to look or when to clap. Jang, is this how you want to be remembered after your awesome band leader gig from the movie? I hope not.

Humble Japanese singer Gackt refused to accept Mnet’s Top Asia Pop Artist Award and insisted on just performing. He reasoned that he came to Korea not for the award, but to meet the Korean audience. Thanks Gackt for your awesome performance!

Gackt was like the best performance of the night. some of the audience had this ‘wtf’ look on their faces when he started to perform lol. but i reckon some Korean performance can learn a thing or two from Gackt… seriously, THAT is stage prescence. -_-

This monstrosity of over-hype and lack of talent is the reason why most Korean singers won’t ever make it in the U.S. These performances are embarassing even more than being funny. Kudos for Gackt for actually caring about the art form rather than being an attention-whoring wannabe like the others.
I’ll stick to Korean films, thanks very much!

The theatrics and the presence he brings to the stage is awesome. Really liked the final fantasy costumes. He went all out and burned the house down with the 2 songs. A bit disappointed that the audience didn’t stand up and dance to song instead of just sitting in their seats.
Sigh…probably not really into rock I guess.
Hey speaking of rock why not L’arc~en~ciel for next year. Actually probably pass on that, no point in performing at a show where people seem perpetually glued to their seats.

Thank you for the link! He did gave a great performance. Though he had better performances before but I’m not saying that this one was not good. It’s just that he’s really that great on-stage that this one is just a common performance from him =) The reactions of the watchers looked like they were bored. But we couldn’t blame them since jrock is something new in Korean ears, probably.

Everyone looked good, but what stole the show for me was Gackt. I’m not a big fan of his music (or rock in general), but he just seems like an awesome person to me. And this just makes me gain more respect for him.

thanks for the video link! i love how gackt brought his game, rather than play something audience are more familiar with. if they’re bored, confused or surprised, it just means their exposure to pop has been limited (not that it’s their fault.)
Gackt is the shizzle. And he’s more of a professional, original and gorgeous than anyone else who walked across that stage. His stage presence is very strong, manly and cool, even though he wears all that makeup. Also, he really loves Korea. He talks about Korea a lot and actually, when he played in Korea the first time a year or so ago he played the same week as Justin Timberlake or someone (honestly, I can’t remember who it was, but a very famous pop American pop singer/group) and Gackt beat him in concert sales. He’s gone out of his way to learn some Korean and he loves Korean food. His interest in Korea seems very heartfelt, not just an attempt to get more fans and sell more records.
AHHH!!! I felt so mad now..I should have gone on with the award show to catch Gackt’s performance..no one told me..T_T bleh..

There’s no comparison between Gackt’s professionalism, self-imposed perfection and passion for his work and well… the rest of everyone else. Personally, I think he’s there to crash the party and make everyone else look bad, show em how it’s done

I heard that MKMF cut Gackt’s award out not that he wouldn’t receive it. What artist wouldn’t want to receive an award like that? So I think it’s more they cut the award out.
