Is BoA depressed?

20071211_boA

Pop princess BoA no longer enjoys singing and performing on stage. In fact, she has long lost her sense of identity since her 2006 best album. BoA believes that she feels this way because she has been working non-stop for last 7 years, but she’s not giving up because she’s living for her goal of studying in the states when she turns 25. I applaud her for her honesty, but I’m a bit concerned about her mental health. Who would’ve thought that BoA, the diva who maintained her star status and has it all is not happy? Feel better BoA and you are always welcome here in the states!

  2. 2 jyyjc December 11, 2007 at 5:49 pm

well..yeah..i think she works very hard. and i love her.

  3. 3 sf December 11, 2007 at 5:56 pm

    that’s pretty interesting…

I wonder what she would study in the states? She’s pretty bilingual now I’m sure but she has missed out on a lot of the high-school & college experience so far….

  4. 4 madyjune December 11, 2007 at 6:05 pm

poor BoA, she really needs a rest

  5. 5 daneil December 11, 2007 at 6:10 pm

i wouldn’t be surprised if she was depressed or really down at some points. shes been working for 7 years without an vacation.
i applaud her for honesty as well.
shes an amazing individual and i hope she can achieve the goal of studying abroad.

oh and its her 2005 best of seoul album not 2006

  6. 6 angie December 11, 2007 at 6:14 pm

finally a honest answer from showbiz insider,
but i feel really sorry for her
not happy, after all these years..

  7. 7 eblu December 11, 2007 at 6:23 pm

Although I’m not a fan of hers, I do admire her hard work and honesty…I feel a bit sorry for her since she’s not that much older than me and yet all those years, instead of having fun and chilling with her friends like any other typical teenager-young adult, she’s been working w/o a vacation ><…
hmm..she looks diff on the cover..not-boa-like..maybe it’s the makeup

  8. 9 junsufan December 11, 2007 at 6:42 pm

She even said she lost her identity..

I really don’t know what to say. T__T I feel sad yet glad for her at the same time. She finally got to speak up. For a lady like BoA to start off at such a young age and being with SM for so long, I really salute to her. It must have been so tough!! I wish she will take a long break, and yeah, go to the states, study English and make a great comeback!! :D I guess I’ll have to wait for a long time for her korean album then.. :(

  9. 10 daneil December 11, 2007 at 6:54 pm

^ err she still has four years before she turns 25
there are rumors that she doing a comeback in 2008

  10. 11 shannon December 11, 2007 at 7:05 pm

I’d be depressed too, putting out all those bland mediocre songs when I’m famous enough to be putting out some fierce pop records. Where the heck did those writers go that wrote some of BoA and DBSK’s first Japanese singles????

Seriously, their music sucks sooooo much now. It’s sad. I’m in Japan and saw DBSK during their Five In The Black Tour. I have no desire to see their next tour since their music is just terrible now.

SM is just evil anyway. BoA should def find another company as soon as her contract is up.

    One Word: STRESS!

    o_o

  12. 13 thecoolest December 11, 2007 at 7:40 pm

I’m not surprised at all that she feels this way.

  13. 14 wing December 11, 2007 at 8:07 pm

apparently she had an interests in economics back in ehr teen days, she probably considering studying economics in the states?! not sure…but wow…being a celeb is not always happiness…and boa has honestly proevn it to us that a star like her having earned so much can not always be happy and lose track of their life…i wish her the very best!!^^ keep fighting!

  14. 15 karen* December 11, 2007 at 8:17 pm

my very first time hearing this kind of news

She has been working non-stop for 7 years, lost the freedom we have, didn’t get the rest she needs and didn’t have the time to do what have to do & enjoy her life as a youngster. Now that she has grown up, 21 year old and has plan for her future, I shall support her all the way!

It’s not easy for her, since she already thought about it for a year! Or even longer!

I wish her all the best!
    BoA!!!! GAMBARIMASU!

  15. 16 taebin December 11, 2007 at 9:13 pm

We call this burning-out-syndrom. To much work, to much stress. She really needs to rest.

Become happy again, BoA!!!I wish her all the best!

  16. 17 ... December 11, 2007 at 9:28 pm

    wish her all the best!

  17. 18 Aya December 11, 2007 at 10:14 pm

Its kind of obvious. She does so much, she may feel sold out with that whole anyband thing. She doesnt put as much into her music anymore. Thats ok, she should take a haitus like Celine Dion.

  18. 19 Dumpling December 11, 2007 at 11:13 pm

Celine Dion didn’t take a hiatus. She was doing Vegas shows for 3 years–I actually just read that she sold out a total of 600 shows in those 3 years.

Anyway, who made BoA work non-stop for 7 years? No one. It was her choice.

  19. 20 ~HSG~ December 11, 2007 at 11:32 pm

Well this has been obvious to me for ages. I don’t think anyone is meant to work like she has been working for that long without a break.

  20. 21 jOLyN December 11, 2007 at 11:36 pm

    its kinda sad…
    well she deserve rest!!
    i like her very much!!
    hope she is fine!!

  21. 22 monalisa December 12, 2007 at 12:03 am

It’s time for her to stop and smell the roses. I’m glad she realises that and doing something about it.

  22. 23 Vanessaly December 12, 2007 at 12:50 am

I think her only cure could be ‘LOve’. Seriously she is 21 and probably never had the time to like a guy or so. But other than that alot of rest should do good too.

  23. 24 rocketfuel December 12, 2007 at 12:51 am

what she wants to is just live her life in more ways than one.

  24. 25 leelee December 12, 2007 at 1:18 am

Poor BoA. I’m happy she was able to be honest about it, though. I kind of thought things wouldn’t be 100% okay with her; she’s been famous since she was young. She needs a break.

  25. 26 Pully December 12, 2007 at 1:26 am

I don’t listen to her music or watch her perfs but I do admire her for working non-stop 7 years. I am always amazed how SM work ppl bones.

No vacation, no dating, camera on all the time, Japanese market, work and work. She’s a human too.

  26. 27 Meru December 12, 2007 at 1:36 am

BoA entered the industry at a young age so her ideals and goals when she first started has changed due to her growth as a professional artist. She signed up to be a popstar, but she was 16 when she made that choice, it’s not contradictory of her to reconsider that choice now that she’s matured. Glad to know she has a mind of her own instead of being a SM puppet.

  27. 28 ae December 12, 2007 at 2:38 am

poor girl. she needs a rest to just be herself, cause she debuted at such a young age she lost all of her important years. not to mention all of her years to be a kid.

  28. 29 Dumpling December 12, 2007 at 2:39 am

Good lord! I had no idea she is only 21. No wonder she wants to go to the States. Here she can be more anonymous and not have any expectations put on her except to be a student and even at that she can go at her own pace with no one looking over her shoulder. She should go to New York. Fun times!

  29. 30 Omo December 12, 2007 at 2:53 am

Awe, Boa. I hope she has a good therapist. As a fellow mid-twentier I completely empathize. I too am freaked out about where I am headed. If in fact the current path I’m on is the right one for me, where will I be in ten years, what do I really want for my life, etc…thank goodness for my therapist, friends and alcohol.
Boa, surround yourself with great friends and plenty of laughter.

  30. 31 marmar December 12, 2007 at 2:56 am

I forget that I’m the same age as her…lol
Well even though I’m not a fan of hers I feel for her. I think she deserves a break. Who wouldn’t be depressed if they have to work nonstop for 7 years flying back .n. forth from one country to another. Yeah it looks cool you know being a celeb but BoA has been working nonstop no rest at all cause LSM loves to overwork his artists.
She should come to America, here she can hide .n. be a normal young adult, since she missed out on being a teenager.

  31. 32 poopseoul December 12, 2007 at 3:07 am

I hope she becomes a hot mess trainwreck! That’d make for some interesting stories.

  32. 33 hearmeroar December 12, 2007 at 3:14 am

I’m not a huge BoA fan or anything, but I do admire how hard she works. And I’m not surprised at all that she said this. I mean, she’s been working nonstop for seven years, completely missing out on her childhood/adolescence… she’s had to play the role of an adult since she was 13/14! Anyway, this girl needs a vacation. I really hope she makes it to 25 to study in the states… that’s still 4 more years to go!

  33. 34 hearmeroar December 12, 2007 at 3:16 am

BTW, popseoul, where did you hear this (source)??

  34. 35 anecia December 12, 2007 at 3:19 am

I’m not much of a fan nor an anti but I do think that She need a psychiatrist or sth..i mean it seriously, for real!!not sarcasm or anything jus pure concern.
I’m sure the last thing people want is having another diva commit suicide because of stress coming from work.

    =poopseoul-
    You definately need a psychiatrist

  35. 36 pavlov December 12, 2007 at 3:55 am

I like that picture of her.

  36. 37 Cutie December 12, 2007 at 4:31 am

I feel sorry for her :/

But, aside from that, I was hoping that it would be a korean single since I’m still waiting for her korean album… -_-”

  37. 38 May December 12, 2007 at 5:13 am

poor BoA. 7 years of entertainment work with not much movement.
At least other artists are going abroad.
and No, Japan doesn’t really count as abroad. She’s only been active in mostly Japan, huh?

  38. 39 BKJSuh December 12, 2007 at 5:15 am

    @ May I kinda agree.

Atleast Micheal Jackson always had something “fresh” during his days.

  39. 40 Yin December 12, 2007 at 5:18 am

she’s lost her identity you say?

well, fame usually does that to people, so therefore, im not particularly surprised.

  40. 41 Kitty December 12, 2007 at 6:16 am

Yikes. Poor Boa! I actually really like her – she seems like an honest person and she truly does have talent. (Her dance skills are amazing, she’s bilingual and sings amazingly well live.) SM has really been pushing her very hard since her youth, and I think they kind of picked her identity FOR her.

She lost her teenage and young adult years, and that’s where people often find their selves. I agree that she should take a hiatus and really truly relax, date, do fun things.

You’re always welcome in the states, Boa!

  41. 42 Kay December 12, 2007 at 6:47 am

I’m glad she finally admitted that she’s overworked.
I applaud her for her honesty.

BoA, you’re always welcome here in the states.

  42. 43 Suki December 12, 2007 at 6:55 am

aww BoA Unnie! I really think she could use a break. She lost so much of her teen years, the time to explore, date, have fun, get in trouble, but she had to work. And it’s still hard to believe she’s 21! So young! and she had trainee days too! so much of her childhood working instead of just haveing fun and free from worrys.
And just because she’s famous she has it all! she has to maintain herself, not have fun, practice, being critisized! I wouldn’t be surprised if she did lose herself.

  43. 44 Jackie December 12, 2007 at 6:55 am

I sensed this from BoA too. She doesn’t seem ok- Like she almost seems emotionally stunted prolly cuz she didnt get to live her teens like a normal kid. I think she needs to take some time off and discover who she is and come back a new and improved BoA. She hasn’t figured out how to make the transition into adulthood yet. The sexy thing is not working for her and her ‘cuteness’ is fading prolly from overworking so much- She needs to find herself!

  44. 45 ANECIA December 12, 2007 at 7:23 am

    I NEED A PSYCHIATRIST TOO

  45. 46 whatever~ December 12, 2007 at 8:05 am

With a schedule like hers it was going to happen eventually, I’m feeling kind of sad cause she is such a good artist, but i support her completely and hope she can recover from this by doing what she feels its necessary.

  46. 47 for real December 12, 2007 at 9:04 am

All that fame and money don’t make a person truely happy.
She missed out on education and a normal life and that’s what she should do, get education. It’s gonna be hard to study in the states though considering that she only got elementary edu. She’s rich though, she can buy herself in! :)

  47. 48 carms17 December 12, 2007 at 9:55 am

    she’s pulling her inner beyonce!

    yes.. she needs a break.

  48. 49 colormewierd December 12, 2007 at 11:45 am

I hope she doesn’t come to a point where she’s shaving her hair, running around with no undies and performing drunk-like on stage. *wink, wink*

BoA, hon. Have a well deserved break while you still ca. ;)

  49. 50 APRIL December 12, 2007 at 12:13 pm

Little girls weren’t ment to be idols…

7 years is a long time….even longer when you’re an entertainer. I would completely understand if she has depression or other mental health problems she didn’t get to grow up the way most of us do

…she’s worked hard…I hope she does get out and gets to experience what a normal life is…before we have another “Crazy Britney Spears”
