Kim Tae Hee and Han Ye-seul are both pretty CF queens who make more money selling products than acting. Kim Tae Hee’s attempts to make it on the big screen failed every time, confirming that she’s nothing more than a pretty face. Kim Tae Hee’s first movie, The Restless was a huge flop, despite its blockbuster budget of approximately US$10 million. Her second and latest movie, The Fighter was also a flop, attracting only about 350,000 people since its release on December 12th, 2007.
Fantasy Couple star, Han Ye-seul also tried to prove herself as an actress through her first movie, Flawless Ms. Shin, but the movie goers weren’t so generous. Since its release on December 18th, Flawless Ms. Shin sold only about 300,000 tickets.
So what’s next? Well, until these CF queens learn how to entertain the audience for more than 30 seconds at a time, they will be nothing more than just pretty faces in this unforgiving acting world. Good luck CF queens!

I don’t think it was too harsh. There’s just some actors and actresses out there popular for their looks rather than their actual acting talent. And honestly, they don’t mind. A lot of them are too concerned with how they look on camera to completely throw themselves into their characters because they don’t want to look ugly when they cry, for example.

Hmm. I’m a bit surprised. I mean people are always praising Kim Tae Hee so I would have expected her movies too do very well.
When it comes to acting (the kind that is taken seriously) looks don’t matter. Take Meryl Streep for example. She may not be drop-dead gorgeous but she’s regarded as one of the best actress today.
To be honest Kim Tae Hee’s acting (I haven’t seen anything from HYS yet) is good but nothing great. I love her in CFs but that’s really it.

I would say The Restless failed due to Jeong Woo Sung and The Fighter failed due to Seol Gyeong-Gu.

I happen to think Han Ye-Seul is a wicked actress, the moment I saw her in Fantasy Couple, I fell in love with her acting, she is beautiful and can act. I just hope she makes more drama’s and not films since nothing beats Korean dramas(even though I am not a Korean one bit)…in the film industry, beauty matters, if it did not then there would be TONS OF UGLY people who can really act, but can’t even get a film let alone audition. Also Kim Tae Hee has this expression in her, especially the eyes, which grabs peoples attention, so she is not bad at acting, but just needs to choose better roles or be given lead roles in drama’s.

I Think they’re both a bit overrated. They both lack the acting skills, and I’m sorry, but I think there are other actresses like Song Hye Kyo who encompass both areanas, beauty and talent. I don’t really think they are as gorgeous as the public portrays them. Don’t get me wrong, they’re pretty and all, but i don’t really think there’s anything spectpacular about the way they look. I’ve seen both of them act, and I’m not impressed, they’re acting is exaggerated and they don’t connect with the audience.

^Yeah, Kim Ki Duk’s films are generally arthouse & often rate well w/ critics although they don’t necessarily translate into box office success.
I would say [The Restless] flopped for many reasons. I wouldn’t blame KTH nor Jung Woo Sung completely, though both did give lacklustre performances. The storyline lacked depth, you never really got to understand many elements- why Yi Gwak & So Hwa loved each other as deeply as they did, why the demons developed such a hatred for midheaven, why JWS is hiding his gorgeous face behind a mass of stringy hair…
And it’s HYS’s debut flick, we’ll give her a break for now.
@Marisse - if I recall correctly, YEH’s debut piece of cinema work did not go well at all either. Yeah she’s got a couple of hit series under her belt but I definitely wouldn’t say YEH is a GREAT actress.
KTH & HYS do have alot of room for development as an actress but let’s not diss them so badly! Yes they are ridiculously pretty but part of their popularity also lies in their incredible charm. That’s something money nor God-given looks can’t necessarily buy.

as for JJH, well, she’s alright looking, marvelous body, soso acting skills. ISJ can act, but she’s not really pretty.

I would never admit that The Restless flopped cos of KTH, it was rather bad script and crappy plot. Blame the writers and directors, at least her being there made the movie bearable to watch
I saw the first 15 minutes of Han Yeh Seul’s movie and the story was really bad. I don’t think you can blame it all on her acting. Also, the supporting men were very boring. I think the way the story was told and directed turned me totally off, like they were trying to be funny and using camera methods shifting from scene to scene, but it never worked. Flat. DOA.
Never saw Kim Tae Hee’s movies, but usu Jung Woo Sung is a good actor, at least I hear. The movie with him in “Eraser in my mind” was pretty good. I cried through the last third of it…
Although this does not follow the ongoing theme of either loving or hating the actresses, it does answer the initial question: Both Kim Tae Hee and Han Ye-seul were in the drama Nine-Tailed Fox.
I don’t think they only have pretty faces. I have watch Kim Tae Hee in Stairway to Heaven as well as Han Ye Seul in Fantastic Couple aka Couple or Trouble, both of them did a great job. This proves that they not only have the faces, they also got talent.
