The SBS Music Awards rounded up the best in music on one stage. Big name music acts showed their stuff by singing covers of hit songs from the past and present -Big Bang, Yangpa, 1tym, Jinusean, Epik High, Wondergirls, JYP, Girl’s Generation, Baek Ji-young, Chae Yeon, Suh In-young, SG Wannabe, FT Island, Stephanie, Cherry Filter, Clazziquai etc.
Some of the big names (under the same management) came together to share the same stage - JYP Entertainment (JYP and Wondergirls), YG Family (Jinusean, Se7en, 1tym Big Bang) and SM Entertainment.
MC’s of the night were the sexy Lee Hyori and the bib wearing Lee Hui-jae.

Woman (finally) looks gorgeous because we don’t see the backside. Her partner, on the other hand, looks like he is ready to chow down on some lobster with his bib.

Baek Ji Young looks much older with the short permed hair. There is a reason why the stylish avoid this hairstyle. It’s the ajumma hair.
Yangpa. Her curves look great until you follow the line down and see the awkward clunky shoes. The sparkle dress and black nylons and shoes don’t match. We know that she is trying to pull off the sexy-cute image but it’s not working.
Se7en. Rain may get all the hype, but the better ESL student is quietly gearing up in the U.S. for his “comeback”.

What happened to SM? Where’s their game? I watched their performance on youtube last because I thought they would be the best, not because I like the artists but just because it’s SM. So i was surprised that SM’s performance was so unbelievably weak compared to YG Family and JYPE. It hardly left an impression. I thought it was a horrible idea to make a tribute to their old artists using the new ones. It just makes everyone compare them and see that the junior artists they have now are nowhere near as great as their seniors. I was most horrfied when Suju sang DBSk’s Hug and SNSD sang Boa’s No. 1. It just made me realize that all those people on stage can’t beat the presence, singing skills or charisma of the 5 Dong bang Boys or Boa herself. That just made me sad. On a happier note though Shinwha’s and YG family’s performances totally blew me away.

omg at Stephanie’s legs those are some painful looking bruises, anyways I was pretty disappointed at FT Island in the battle of Rookies or whatever it was called, I believe HongKi didn’t learn well the lyrics or something but he screwed up the collab with Younha. Younha on the other side was awesome as always. Also in this Rookies thing I was pretty satisfied with WG & SNSD perfs. Honestly I love So Hee but she really went off when it was her turn to sing, the others WGs were alright, SNSD sang mostly together so you couldn’t really notice if someone was off and they sounded good most of the time.

As much as I’ve grown to like Wondergirls (minus Sohee of course..), they really should start practicing even more on their live singing, because obviously, when they are dancing and singing, they cannot carry a tune. SNSD’s performance was okay but of course there are some parts where they are out of tune. kind of a disappointment from both groups since they are the so called “new faces of k-pop”

I thought the SBS Music Awards totally rocked. I liked the idea that it was a night full of collaborations- especially between the newcomers and the old established “legends”. It showed there is a respect towards senior artists in the business and a caring affection towards the new idols of the generation. I LOVED the idea of having the three major (or at least most well known) entertainment companies perform on their own stage. This year SBS showed truly shined. It was a night of tying music through the generations
To HappyKpopLover, it was just Sm that gave tribute to their old artists. YG Family had songs that was from 1tym, etc. JYP is old school himself (i mean that in a good way- if you minus the total obvious homosexual tendencies he have). I think the main difference from SM and the other two entertainment’s performance was the fact that the JYP and YG family had old artist who were “pillars” that held the performance.
Granted i think Big Bang was a force onto themselves. I think they are great performers with good songs. Add them with 1tym (who was YG own Legend) and Seven? how can you beat that?
And seriously I just don’t like WG or SNSD or SUJU or CSJH “the Grace”. I don;t have anything against them. I just never liked any of their songs. And they are vocals are immature in my opinion. hopefully it’ll improve geven more practice. I think that is why SM performance failed. they didnt have the senoirs to help the new comers, who i have to say lack in stage charisma.
SUJU does have charisma-in television, in comdey shows, in talk shows. I truly enjoy their screen time in tv shows. But sincerely i think they lack stage charisma. I never liked any of their live performances and i doubt i ever will.
Anyways. I liked Shinwa’s performance. I think they deserve their place in Kpop as a “legend”. I am so sad that we have to wait another ..4 or 5 years for them to perform together again. But by then i am sure they will evolve musically to somethign less mainstream and something more “soulful”. or at least that is what i hope.

@ phreaque: the seotaiji tribute on DEC 1 had a pretty good lineup of krock bands. a nice showcase i must say!
I’m still at the age where a lot of cutesy stuff still gets to me and I think that’s why SM appeals to me more then other entertainment singers. They aim for the girls in their teens and most of their songs have that childish theme to it that makes me love them so. Not to say I don’t like any other artists or entertainment companies, but I just prefer SM’s whole image for their artists.
I thought the SM stage was very entertaining and it was great to just listen to all those songs that their sunbaes have sung in the past, especially ending it with [Hope] which was a beautiful way to end the performance and really a great song to end the year.
Something that is slowly starting to disappoint me is the fact that Nam Gyuri is beginning to be the main face and how do you say…pretty face? When I had heard of Seeya I was excited because it was suppose to be a talented group that was trained by SG Wannabe, though I don’t listen to a lot, enjoy watching their performances. But now it’s nothing more then Nam Gyuri and her backups who sing lines, but because she’s prettier, the camera will give her more screen time and leave the other two out. Just like the way they design the outfits for their [Toxic] performance. Nam Gyuri wore the same black outfit as her other two members, but also was wearing a red corset that just made her stick out. The camera only followed her and if I didn’t know that the other two girls were memebers of Seeya, then I would have thought she had gone solo and was doing her big debut there.
Wonder Girls…well I really only liked [Tell Me] and only that was because my friend wouldn’t stop playing it around me and I got sucked into the whole craze. Truth to be told, they do need work and well when they first came out with [Irony] I just ignored them completely.
I haven’t gotten around to watching the many other performances, but I do have to say it was one of the more satisfying shows to end the year.

I just watched a couple of the performances and it seems that it was a really good show. The only thing is that when Seeya, or rather Gyuri was performing Toxic … she was missing the attitude needed to pull off the song, it came off too cutsy and almost naive - but good for her for trying.

YG Family indisputably owned the night with their show-stopping performance. In second place, I favor the M.net Media performance. Minus the countless shots of Nam Gyu Ri, the artists and audience alike seemed to be having tons of fun.
i’ve only seen bits of SM’s special stage (only suju’s parts) and if that’s any indications about how the rest of it will be then i imagine that their special stage was terrible. i personally enjoyed YG’s and Mnet’s special stage, JYP’s was only ok.

eh. sbs music awards were all right. wow. they totally weren’t obvious with the whole sm, jyp ent and yg love. sadly for sm and jyp ent, yg’s “showcase” owned and then some. it was the only performance, besides the musical drama, that i watched over and over again.
i felt like sbs had prepared some combinations that had the potential to be really good but the delivery was just terrible. the below par delivery was probably due to lack of time to prepare. some of the performances made me cringe >.<
best performances of the night:
-yg family’s performance was definitely the shiz. they seriously know how to work the stage and they’re really in sync with each other. they all just mesh really really well. it’s probably because they do A LOT of collaborations.
-musical drama [not really a performance, but whatever]. a little corny and sometimes awkward, but really funny and super cute. wg+bb<3
-epik high + drunken tiger + dynamic duo was prettyyy good too. they were all really entertaining.

YG totally owned that stage…I was so disappointed with SM and JYP’s performances. They were ok…some parts were terrible vocal wise. the best performance of my opinion would have to be the OPENING of drunken tiger, epik hig and etc performance. that breakdance was hot
other then that what should i expect its an asian awards show. so i was expecting the wackness with a side of cheesyness. but im interested to see the outcome of these asian singers debuting in america. i dont think america is ready well let me rephrase that i dont think WHITE people are ready to see asian singers. cus we still live in a white society

Lol dunno anything about SNSD and if they can sing or not but I think Wonder Girls can. I think the reason that So Hee’s voice gets cracked on stage is because she is nervous. Anyway when ever I try watching a SNSD video on YouTube it never loads lol.

I’m a big fan of K-songs & although I’m not sure of their names who sang this & that in drama OSTs — I just love the music albeit I don’t understand Korean. The melodies even their instrumental version (OSTs) are just beautiful! My hats are off to the winners! More power & Sae Hae Bok Mani for 2008!!

Watched the JYP and Wondergirls performance of Honey and man, is it just me or did anyone cringe when Wondergirls sang? SooHee can’t hold a note when she sings if her life depended on it(I’m a fan and all, but that song didn’t really register well with me). Total dissapointment in the performance.
i must say. although i love shinhwa with all my heart. i enjoyed YG Family’s perf. more.

Shinhwa’s performance is the best of the night, espestually Shin Hye Sung when he gave all the best while suffering by the pain from operations and weak general state. That was so amazing professional. And OMG, I miss them so much!!!

I think the best performance was Shinhwa and Epik High/DD/Drunken Tiger. They got the crowd hyped up like crazy.
It was just so good to see Shinhwa, all of shinhwa together again. I missed seeing them together. Since Eric & Dongwan will be leaving for the army this year it was nice to see them reunite one more time before they go.
Epik High/DD/Drunken tiger was just off the hook. I love there stage presence. They know how to get the crowd hyped up.
I really like Stephanie’s dance in the beginning but poor girl her legs are getting bruised up. Life of a dancer you gotta say. She pawned the other girls with her performance. She knows how to be sexy w/o a guy there, not like that other chick from jewerly. She was just HORRIBLE when she tried the whole ass move thing I was like “WTF? you don’t have ass your flat as a board don’t ever do that again”
Stephanie showcase her dance skills and vocals. Love how she started jumping in her heels.

In my opinion, Girls Generation only look pretty and are told what to do by SM. Wonder Girls are like able, but need to improve on their vocals.
Oh, and i think SBS Music Awards did a far better job than the stupid Mnet Music Festival
