Grieving families and friends attended boxer Choi Yo Sam’s (33) funeral today after his family took him off life support on Thursday. Choi suffered from brain hemorrhage during a fight with Indonesian challenger Heri Amol at World Boxing Organization Intercontinental Flyweight Title on Christmas day and he was declared brain dead on Wednesday, January 2nd. Although Choi Yo Sam won the fight, on an unanimous decision, Amol dominated the 12th round with a right to Choi’s jaw sending him down seconds before the final bell.
Choi’s organs were donated to six people in need and over 15,000 mourning fans visited his cyworld page to express their grief and sadness. Choi’s death is not only tragic, it’s also eerily reminiscent of Kim Duk Koo’s death after sustaining injuries in a fight against US boxer Ray Mancini in 1982. Our condolences to his fans and family.
Rest in peace Choi Yo Sam…

Boxing is just the stupidest f*cking sport. For the life of me I don’t understand why people do it–or worse, why people WATCH it.
rest in peace.
Rest In Peace
RIP Choi Yo Sam.
(People choose boxing because they’re good at fighting, or like to fight, and it’s the safest, legal way to fight.)
R.I.P. I didn’t know him. However, Its sad to hear when anyone dies because the people who did know him are suffering.
the cause of his death is just whoaaa… terrible.
may he rest in peace.
R.I.P. Choi Yo Sam
You were a Fighter.
That is disheartening to read despite that I’m not a fan of boxing. But I do think it a form of martial arts that can be respected, and I think it’d be respectful to him to remember him as a fighter and a person who had striven and trained to be good at it.
i dont know who he is but this is so tragic.
RIP
my condolences to his family, friends and fans…
R.I.P.

oh man, RIP
and I can’t imagine how the Indonesian boxer must feel… I mean, it’s not like he purposely was trying to cause fatal injuries to Choi.
rest in peace..
As dangerous as it might seem, boxing isn’t is as dangerous as gymnastics, skating or cheerleading.
RIP~

Boxing will never be banned as humanity as a whole is agressive and violent. Also as tragic as it is, I’ve read quite a few articles about soccer players dying on the field, one prominent player at the end of last year. So may Choi’s spirit rest in peace. Maybe one should evaluate better ways to protect fighters.
condolences to the family
rest in peace…

He has lived like he died
RIP
Rest in Peace!
I’ve never heard of him since I’m not much into sports. But just seeing that hospital photo of him with all the wires and tubes just broke my heart. Although it is unfortunate, he did pass away doing what he was passionate about: boxing. …Any sport has its dangers… From my research, even professional dancers get heart attacks when they dance the intense flamenco. And that’s not even a sport! But I digress… Peace be with him and all of his loved ones. He truly was a fighter.
Man, life’s too short…RIP.
Awww… that is so sad.
: (
on christmas day…
Rest in peace.
Rest in peace.
R.I.P
i always hate watching this kind of violent sport n i have no idea y ppl like to do it even tho they kno in the 1st place that it’s dangerous….and i really cant imagine how that indonesian boxer feel…well its not that he purposely want to cause brain damage on him (choi)….i give all condolences to ppl that he left…
very sad. :C
there’s so many death news going on recently and most of the situations have been based with crazed fans and rumors started by crazed fans who are obssessed but this story was actually something that was a family’s decision and I send my condolences to the family because they had no other choice why do people leave this place so young
OMG, why would the family permit that photo of him on the hospital bed with all those wires to be released?! Its just so sad. You dont hear about sudden boxing deaths often at all in the news….moreso about sports writers commenting on a veteran boxer’s increasingly slurred speech due to all the blows to the head after numerous fights…and how they shouldn’t step back into the ring.
I feel sorry for his family. RIP
RIP
=(
r.i.p
-i dont think boxing should be banned
he probably died whilst doing the thing he loved doing the most – boxing
R.I.P , you will be greatly missd
Am never a fan of boxing ..and i feel so sorry for this guy..
He did his country proud but paid his life for it..
May he rest in peace now..
May God Bless his noble soul. Amen.
I can’t believe his family took him off life support so quickly. How tragic….R.I.P.
The day after new Year’s…Well, he gave a new life to 6 people for a new year – there can’t be too many more noble ways to go.
