Rain will not sing for the 2008 Olympics

Rain_20080108_popseoul

Unexpectedly, Rain turned down the golden opportunity to sing for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He reasoned that it makes more sense for a Chinese singer to be the voice of the 2008 Olympics, but he is planning another event for the Olympics. Glad to see the shrimp eyed star starting off the year on the right foot. Let’s hope that it lasts.

Unfortunately, Rain’s announcement will end the cyber war among the Chinese and Korean netizens who are currently getting carried away at their keyboards to express their conflicting opinions. No more entertainment for those indifferent observers.

He’s proving he can make proper decisions on his own?! I’m happy for him. He is a very talented guy and it makes sense for him to handle affairs like this with dignity. GO RAIN!

    good for him.
i was wondering why a korean was offered that chance…i’m sure the chinese had many of their singers in mind…i still don’t get it.
well all in all, rain did good.
Go KOREA! Can’t wait for summer!

  7. 7 gangnam gal January 8, 2008 at 1:18 pm

    What a daft decision !

It’s the biggest stage (platform) for him to be introduced to the world

As a fan, I cannot understand this decision. Maybe he needs to explain further….

  8. 8 whatever January 8, 2008 at 1:26 pm

happy with his decision and reasoning.. i guess he read all the comments on the debate everybody has been doing all this time?

  10. 10 eugene January 8, 2008 at 1:35 pm

    Nice choice.
Finally Rain does something right…Maybe he’ll start improving from now on.

  11. 11 Jackie January 8, 2008 at 1:37 pm

I think it was smart for him to do as far as China goes… I could see a backlash and disappointment there. But as far as the rest of the world is concerned it would have been the best move for his career to appear before the whole world showing his abs LOL

  12. 12 tenretni January 8, 2008 at 1:44 pm

maybe its too much pressure for him right now… since he wants to debut in the US, i guess he doesn’t wanna be remembered as the Korean that sang in chinese during the olimpics with a gay ass name…just a thought… but i’m looking forward to see what he has prepared…oh well, we still love you rainy…

  13. 13 234 January 8, 2008 at 1:46 pm

My Chinese friend said that he didn’t sing that well in Chinese anyways. :P

  14. 14 soju January 8, 2008 at 1:56 pm

  16. 16 kawaiimegami January 8, 2008 at 2:21 pm

    good decision..
i am neither chinese nor korean, but in my opinion this opportunity shouLd be given to a chinese citizen. it is the first time china wiLL host the big sports event so they must showcase their own taLent..
anyway, i am so excited in the upcoming Beijing OLympics. i wish i can watch it…. :(

  17. 17 SELAH January 8, 2008 at 2:40 pm

LMAOO!!! The thing that I’m laughing at is how you called him “shrimp eyed singer”! LMAOOO! GOOD ONE! That’s freaking hilarious. Anyways, I guess at least he’s participating in the Olympics in some way.

  18. 18 KanginsFutureGF January 8, 2008 at 2:40 pm

    oooo
im excited for the 2008 olympics too!!!
and yeah… it should probably be a chinese artist who sings at the international sports event that everyone loves…
after all, it is held in china!

  19. 19 icingonthacake January 8, 2008 at 2:42 pm

man it should be a Chinese singing the song.

  20. 20 junsufan January 8, 2008 at 2:48 pm

OMG yes! he made a good decision. :D He doesn’t want to mess with chinese antis..^^

  21. 21 Brina January 8, 2008 at 3:07 pm

i heard hankyung and jang ri in will sing together!! hope its true..

  24. 24 May January 8, 2008 at 3:55 pm

Yay! Even though it would be a golden opportunity to sing at the Chinese Olympic, it would gain RAin a lot more criticism to accept such an offer.

    Whoo! Let’s celebrate!

  25. 25 confused January 8, 2008 at 4:01 pm

yay! Rain makes a smart move!:-)

so what is he up to anyway? any new albums coming out soon? dramas?

  26. 26 XiaoXi January 8, 2008 at 4:15 pm

Making it in the US is still pretty iffy for our JJH–it is a very smart business move to not alienate the entire Chinese market by taking this away from a native.

If Rain has to go back to making his money in Asia, China will be a big part of that, no use closing that door unnecessarily…

  27. 27 EKCC January 8, 2008 at 4:41 pm

    Rain is not shripe eyed!!!
    stop calling him like that!!

  28. 29 kiwi_seoul January 8, 2008 at 4:59 pm

Lets hope he stays on this role for the rest of the year!!
I wasnt totally against it, but i think its better this way.

  29. 30 noway January 8, 2008 at 5:36 pm

The last/2nd paragraph I think it meant how everyone was typing those comments on the article, “Will Rain be the voice of the 2008 beijing olympics” lol those comments were funny

  30. 31 noway January 8, 2008 at 5:36 pm

    Good choice Rain

    Rain Clarifies Olympic Song Rumor

    By Cathy Rose A. Garcia
    Staff Reporter

Korean pop singer and actor Rain has not been chosen to perform the 2008 Beijing Olympics theme song, according to his management agency J Tunes.

J Tunes issued the clarification, after reports surfaced that Rain would be performing the theme song for the Olympics this summer. “An agency in China asked Rain to record a ‘candidate’ song for the Olympics, but we have not yet recorded any song,” J Tunes said.

J Tunes said Rain would be honored if he were chosen to perform the official song for the Olympics.

Beijing Olympic organizers will announce the official song and singer, 100 days before the start of the Olympics. The Beijing Olympics will run from Aug. 8 to 24.

Rain is one of the most popular Korean singers and actors in China. He has appeared in numerous advertisements for Pepsi, DHC cosmetics and other products in China. Rain is also appearing in the highly anticipated Hollywood film “Speed Racer” this year.

Last year, Chinese superstar Jackie Chan recorded, “We are Ready,” an official song that marked the countdown to the Beijing Olympics.

I missed out on the cyberwars :< Ah well

  36. 37 Dumpling January 8, 2008 at 9:42 pm

He can’t sing in Chinese and he doesn’t have what it takes to LEARN it. THAT is the reason he backed out. You can bet that’s the only reason. It had nothing to do with consideration for others, only consideration for himself. Drizzle has fanciful notions of world domination in the music business, so there’s no way he would have turned down a huge opportunity to have THE WHOLE WORLD’S EYES ON HIM except that he KNOWS he’s not up to the task. A true artist would do whatever it takes to be prepared for the gig, not back out. Drizzle is a fraud and not a true artist.

And I agree with what others have said–just because the Olympics are in Beijing, this doesn’t mean China owns he games. There would not be ANY problem with a Korean singing there.

  37. 38 eleven January 8, 2008 at 9:52 pm

    aww.. ><
ackk i love you rain ^^
i guess it is the right decision
but he still is like the best EVERRR <3

  38. 39 rainlove January 8, 2008 at 10:02 pm

    Agreed with you Dumpling.
There would not be any problem for an Korea singer to sing d Olympic song. Actually, it’s good if he sing d song. As we know, he’s a world star and got alots of fans to support him.

    Aza Aza fighting.

  39. 40 HATEJJH January 8, 2008 at 10:16 pm

Is this a publicity stunt on shrimpedeye’s camp? I wonder…

I mean all they got is an invitation to submit a song for consideration and like all hell broke lose…next we know outrageous rumors of shrimpedeyes singing the Olympic song in CHINESE?!

I think it’s fine and well that the Olympics have performances from all over the world. If I’m the organizers I wouldve considered Rain for part of a segment too, but blowing it so out of insane proportion as to singing THE theme song…o_0
What a joke, and now those fluffy clouds ar all gaga over how their oppa is soooo clever in ‘doing the right thing’ turning down the ‘offer’. one of my brain cell is telling me there’s no offer to start out with, maybe it is written in English and poor shrimpedeyes cant read it, let alone understand it.

  40. 41 latifah January 8, 2008 at 10:53 pm

rain did not turn down the offer, he was NOT chosen. he would probably accept if ever there was an offer considering his thirst for fame. sad to say, rain doesn’t have what it takes to be a famous singer. and pleazzz, no more body baring act, its getting to be so redundant !!!

  41. 42 Char January 8, 2008 at 11:48 pm

rianti reported this information and so if this report is true Rain did not turn down the opportunity to sing at the Olympics, has not recorded a song for the committee yet to hear, he feels honored to be asked, and finally the one chosen to sing will not be revealed until 100 days before the event.

This report sounds more reasonable than any other that we have seen.

  42. 43 miraigal January 9, 2008 at 12:27 am

He showed some sense for once.

  43. 44 soju January 9, 2008 at 12:53 am

And I agree with what others have said–just because the Olympics are in Beijing, this doesn’t mean China owns he games. There would not be ANY problem with a Korean singing there.

sure, there’s no problem with anyone singing a song during the olympics. it’s that the MAIN THEME song should go to the host country’s talents.

and from what that report says, shrimpeyed drizzle hasn’t exactly turned down any offer, yet. he’ll have to compete with others and if the olympic committee chooses him to be their icon? well … would he turn it down then?

    time will tell.

  44. 45 uy January 9, 2008 at 1:57 am

alas… it was the perfect chance for world domination.

  45. 46 Spamstereeno January 9, 2008 at 2:35 am

I guess China will have to just be satisfied with their own crappy singers

  46. 47 Suzana January 9, 2008 at 2:35 am

yay…Rain made a good move!! yeepies for him….-_-

  47. 48 suga January 9, 2008 at 3:38 am

    ahh great choice~
why must only korean chinese ppl get chosen to sing like Hankyung/Zhang Liyin? find some REAL chinese artists plox…
is hanlu that big ? -______-

  48. 49 lp January 9, 2008 at 5:04 am

China never offered him to sing the song, they asked him to record a song that would be considered along with many other artists like the article rianti posted. but anyways.. he still made the right decision

    @ Spamstereeno
and you think shrimpeyes here can sing?

    @ suga
hankyung and zhang li yin are just chinese, and they do have REAL chinese artists who are singing in the olympics, but people who are wrapped up in kpop do not know of their existence
