If you guys turn up the volume a little bit, you can hear the director of the CF or a staffer saying (while she’s drinking the beer), “우와 찐자 잘 먹는다” which can be roughly translated to, “Wow, she’s a good drinker.”
i agree with you liz, she has a great voice but her songs aren’t that good and why would you advertise for beer of all things when the majority of your fanbase is made up of pre-teen girls?

Honestly, I don’t mind it if BoA advertises beer or any alcoholic beverage for that matter. It’s not like Korea/Japan’ll have say any negative thing about her, after all, alcohol and beer doesn’t have the same negative connotation as they do in the US.
Besides, I take this ad as a statement, like her other ones (My Name?), that she’s not the same 16-year old teenybopper girl with the bubblegum pop songs anymore.
Now that it’s been mentioned though, if BoA advertises cigarettes, now that’s a different story. If she does that, it’ll definitely contradict her support for the Anti-Smoking campaign, which might make people think that her support for the latter, was a publicity stint indeed.
And she’s not overrated, IMHO. Her Japanese songs might’ve been a little too much on the repetitive side after Do the Motion topped the charts, but at least she gets back at it with her Korean music, right?

Calling someone or something overrated just means you want to separate yourself from the popular vote since you choose not to accept a good thing. Calling something “overrated” or saying “it sucks” means absolutely nothing because most of the time…they have no idea why.
with that said, Korean Beer “sucks” because it’s carbonated piss water. Blue Moon Belgium White is the best…and I want to see a Boa Soju commercial.
I find Korean refreshing and easy to drink. I’m not into to dark beers so beers like Asahi, Soporro and Hite goes down easy for me. I wouldn’t mind drinking a soju bomb with BOA right now.
Asahi and Sapporo are far better beers than Hite though. They have more flavor and are better, quality-wise. The only good thing Hite about is it’s crispness….

I use to listen to a few songs, but could never understand the hype surrounding her music and her. Therefore, she’s overrated to me. I never thought her music sucked or anything, I just didn’t think It was all that people make it out to be.

Its not a big deal to advertise for an alcoholic beverage in Korea. Korea japan are wayyy different from the United states. you don’t see it regulary in the states.

People don’t like BoA doing this because of their lasting image of her as a famous teenage girl singing sugary pop songs. Drinking beer isn’t part of the “good girl wholesome image”. The image they want to send here is the laid-back side of BoA just relaxing, having a cold one now and then like everybody else.

My woman said that Boa and Lee Hyori are bigtime sluts and started banging dudes in high school. I was kinda disappointed cuz Boa always seemed so innocent. I don’t think there are any virgins above age 19 in Korea. They just act like they are innocent. I wish Koreans could be straight up about things but it’s all about outer image here. One day Koreans might liberate themselves….
I would have to disagree that boA is overrated.
She is arguably one of the busiest artists on the planet considering she works in two countries (well, not recently…). At least up until her Girls on Top Korean album, when BoA was not performing in Japan, she would be in Korea promoting her Korean album and vice versa.
And plus, if there wasn’t anything to her, then how could a foreigner (Korean) rise to the top of Japan’s ethnocentric music industry? Do the Japanese really have an incentive to support a random foreigner if she did not have skills? And let’s be real, Japan’s music industry is the 2nd largest music industry after the USA and also one of the hardest to break into– many Asian artists have tried but failed to make the impression BoA has. There obviously is something to her if she could make an impact in Asia’s top two most advanced music industries.
Also, ppl need to chill about BoA and drinking. In Korean society, drinking is NOT considered a bad thing!!! Koreans are more liberal when it comes to drinking than Americans. It’s actually considered a “social skill” and most Korean girls know how to drink pretty well. Did you know Korea is the 2nd heaviest consumer of alcohol in the world (after Russia)?? There is very little social stigma in Korean society about drinking. Understand her culture before you judge.
