Kind of bad picture of SHK. She looks old even with the airbrush and makeup.

  2. 2 elle January 20, 2008 at 4:34 am

Ummm yeah…First of all, *NEWSFLASH* the ENTIRE WORLD has identity issues. Secondly, I can speak for Asians when I say A LOT of them ARE white-washed. NOT ALL of them, but “whiteness” is the cultural beauty standard. Now, let me clarify that wanting white skin DOES NOT mean that they want to be white (most of the time). As another person said, before white people even came to Asia, whiteness was the standard because it meant that they were rich because they did not have to work in the fields. Just like being fat in Europe during those times meant that you were rich because you had enough to eat. The point is, though, is that standards of beauty change. For the most part, due to the rise of the middle class, people no longer have to worry about starvation, so being fat is no longer attractive because in today’s society, it’s not a symbol of wealth. Most parts of Asia have a good stable economy with a good-size middle class, so having pale skin doesn’t mean that one is wealty. So why hasn’t this standard of beauty and class changed in Asia? Well, that is where the “white-washing” comes in. Look at anime…How come the characters almost NEVER look Asian? Sure, it STARTED from the whole “wanting to copy Disney” thing but, this is the year 2008 and anime characters still never look Asian. I’m not saying that we all want to be white just because of cartoon characters, but come on…A blond-haired, blue-eyed JAPANESE school girl, born and raised in Japan? Yeah right….That’s the reason I don’t watch anime now. I don’t hate white people, but I hate that I never see myself in my OWN cartoons!

But Back to my point on white-washing. Aside from the skin thing, we seem to have a problem with double eyelids and noses. Before I say this let me just say that I DID NOT get the surgery because I already have double eyelids because I’m mixed…However, a lot of people in my family want double eye-lids because they think that it looks better. They didn’t say “Oh, I want double eye-lids because WHITE people have them”, but it IS subconcioulsy buried into their brains that these types of eyes look better. Why? Because if you haven’t noticed, Americans shove their culture and way of life down everyone’s throats, and make people believe that their way is the best way, and everyone else’s is inferior. Just like Black people. They are not going to say “I want straight hair because I want to look WHITE”, but it’s been shoved down their throats that straighter hair is better, so that’s what most of them believe. Same thing with noses. I prefer cute button noses as opposed to long and pointy noses (kind of reminds me of witch noses >_<) but because pointy noses are the “beauty standard” that’s why people change their noses.

So don’t bash me for being racist. I didn’t call any names or insult anyone. I just told the truth. America DOES shove their beliefs down everyone’s throats, (probably the reason everyone hates America now) and anyone who wants to debate the matter doesn’t have to argue with me. Just pick up a history book.

  3. 3 Lana January 20, 2008 at 4:35 am

I agree, hiatus. It’s funny looking at some of them with these blaring white faces and tan/brown necks and hands. I say they should fire the makeup artist! Color the exposed parts or don’t color yourself at all, but if you do, for goodness sakes, please MATCH! It’s just as bad as when people get facelifts and they’re necks and hands are as wrinkled as a 90 year old.

I agree with you too, dwilliams.

  4. 4 kimchee plox January 20, 2008 at 4:55 am

LANEIGE suckz, it ruin my skin!

  5. 5 Brina January 20, 2008 at 5:02 am

Oof..not a good picture of Song Hye Kyo. She looks old and kind of..evil. O_O

Secondly. People will never be happy in their own skin. People with brown wavy hair, will want blond straight hair. Short people will want to be taller, and etc. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but many just cannot see that.

When I was little, my mom always went to the tanning booths and I use to tan with her sometimes. (I wanted to be just like her xD)
Now that I’m older, I’ve stopped that stuff. Too much sun is just horrible for your skin! Plus, I actually dislike tans and prefer naturally pale skin now. If you’re born with it, learn to love it.
It doesn’t matter really. Everyone wishes they had what they don’t have.

  6. 6 yetaz January 20, 2008 at 5:22 am

Jung Hye-young should get back to the big screen, amazing actor.

“Secret Sunshine” is WAY overrated. could hardly keep awake for that one.

  7. 7 janepak January 20, 2008 at 5:46 am

    @ Jenny

Jealousy is a disease, my dear. Don’t let that disease spread too much in your body because as all diseases can, it might kill and eat away at your brain and then what will you do when you come to realize that you’re not at all pretty but actually as ugly as a 20 year drug addict with leprosy?

    __________

Anyway ^^ I think all of them look gorgeous =]
All the people “dissing” the whole pale skin thing have to understand that Korea’s definition of beauty is different from the US. Sure tans are nice in the US, but dark skin isn’t the *ideal* beauty attribute there. Their ideal beauty is of the Snow White concept: pale skin, red lips etc.

  8. 8 Alice January 20, 2008 at 6:10 am

I really like song Hye Kyo, I’m glad that she hasn’t taken on any of the fake plastic surgery as of the many celebs…hope that she would do her best in the future! :D

  9. 9 Kd January 20, 2008 at 6:28 am

Is that Sean’s wife on the leftmost side of the SKII pic? I think she’s really pretty. She and Sean make a cute pair. :)

And it’s nice to finally hear something about SHG. I haven’t heard much about her in a while, but she still looks pretty as ever. She looked fierce in that ad!

    @Jenny
Don’t you think it’s shallow to just care about your beauty? Obviously, there are more important things like grammar, and logic, and knowing when to accept that you’re wrong.

I don’t think No On BrAgGaRtS even made the connection between appearing in a magazine and stupidity. That would just be plain baseless.

There’s a limit to where physical appearance can get a person in life, and I’m sure it won’t get him/ her too far. I hope you get to realize that soon enough, especially since I reckon you’re still pretty young.

  10. 10 KS January 20, 2008 at 7:08 am

I think people are getting this “whitening” cream as literally whitening/bleaching cream. My understanding of the “whitening” cream that I use by SKII is that it delimish the look of dark spots us asians get when we get exposed to too much sun. Like freckels and dark spots. I play alot of tennis and outdoor sports so I get the dark spot on my face. That’s why I used it and it doesn’t not bleach out the skin. I am a fair/even complexioned asian person and it does not bleach out my skin and make me look “white”.

  11. 11 KS January 20, 2008 at 7:13 am

My case in point, this was taken from the SKII website:
The foundation of the SK-II Whitening Source product line, DermDefinition is a luxurious serum designed to reset the balance of your skin’s tone and color. The product contains vitamin B3 and a vitamin C derivative; it claims to brighten skin and tackle age spots, sun spots and other discolorations.

  12. 12 han January 20, 2008 at 8:04 am

didn’t know there was another ‘han’ lurking around this blog before…
    anyways
that pic of song hye gyo isn’t really flattering and it SO didn’t do her justice
the woman is the most beautiful person i’ve met my whole life and her skin is SO flawless it’s no doubt laneige chose her….ji hyun’s pretty too but she’d been their face for too long…

  13. 13 Leigh January 20, 2008 at 8:39 am

    @ No On BrAgGaRtS:

    You are funny O.~
    __________________________________________________________
Annie, if you ARE really beautiful, then why don’t you be modest and keep it to yourself? The term ‘beauty’ is defined in many aspects. Sure, you might be physically beautiful, I am sure, however, the ways one speak and act is far more important than what one looks.

    You need to self-reflect.

P.S. I do not know what you personally do for a living, but G-R-A-M-M-A-R is crucial in every occupation.

  14. 14 daneil January 20, 2008 at 10:19 am

song hye gyo’s beauty tends to bore me at times
im surprised ji yoon was added amoung those three ladies.

  15. 15 kalie January 20, 2008 at 12:46 pm

Song Hye Gyo’s beauty doesn’t impress me.
i dunno she’s just bores me to death.

  16. 16 No On BrAgGaRtS January 20, 2008 at 12:54 pm

Jenny dear, I’m back!!! Miss me?

Thank you to those that agreed with me. Little Jenny dear needs some guidance, whether she accepts or not.

Jenny dear, Jenny dear (just to humor you, Jenny dear), you may have a face that can launch a thousand ships, but life goes way beyond being pretty. Ask your Mother, would you Jenny dear?

  17. 17 Korean Ajusshi January 20, 2008 at 1:01 pm

Jenny, remember that a pretty girl with bad personality can look ugly to most people.

  18. 18 to-'Jenny the pretty' like who cares... January 20, 2008 at 1:12 pm

    @No On BrAgGaRtS
    OMG u r getting funny here…

    @Jenny
    Where r u Jenny dear???I think I miss u ..heheee..

  19. 19 mist January 20, 2008 at 1:31 pm

Haha…the whole Jenny things really make my day..
Where is our little Jenny dear i wonder???

Back to the main point..Got to agree with most people ..For most asian here..getting pale skin, pointed nose or double eyelid have nothing to do with being western or America. In fact, most of us naturally born with pale skin. And western are not the only race with double eyelid or pointed nose..So who say we want that western features that much???u guys just being shallow minded again…

  20. 20 Kelly January 20, 2008 at 1:35 pm

I also think “to-’Jenny the pretty’ like who cares…,” “Leigh,” “No On BrAgGaRtS,” “Kd,”janepak,” “Annie” are all the same person…..HOW SAD

Not trying to make herself alone in this…jealous of Jenny…HOW SAD!!! You have NO LIFE!!! HOW SAD…how pitty I feel for you. Next time try using different variety of words so that you don’t sound like one person..OK?

  21. 21 fantasy January 20, 2008 at 1:53 pm

ha…i agree with Kelly! It looks like all those people are just ONE! Trying to show off that she is not ALONE. I could see that each one uses “dear” or “my Jenny dear”–it blows it off.
Just admit it that you are one…..

    PLUS You have No life!

Oh yeah….Kim Hee Ae is a very good actor.

  22. 22 Jenny January 20, 2008 at 1:58 pm

What ever! I still pretty you all..you all are jealous of my beauty…so shut the f uck up you sh itty people! You guys are an as s holes…..

Hey “No On BrAgGaRtS” you are a B itch and a B as tard OK…you understand me, so damn you OK?

I am very beautiful and pretty with lots of glamor.

Oh, they look like a pigs.

  23. 24 Dejavu January 20, 2008 at 2:32 pm

@ No on Braggarts & Jenny
Don’t you two little girls have anything better to do?
Oh and ” No on Braggarts” who the f^ck cares about grammer when you are typin comments on a site. You must have a lot of time on ur hands correcting every little mistake you make. pathetic ppl like u make me wanna puke

  24. 25 fsaith January 20, 2008 at 3:21 pm

I think its pretty unfair to claim that Asians like this whole pale white skin. In my country, some like to be fair and white, while the rest tend to be dark and tanned.

  25. 26 bewise January 20, 2008 at 3:27 pm

    @ Jenny

hey, take it easy darling. no need to be crass at all these people trying to help you grow up.

  26. 27 bewise January 20, 2008 at 3:31 pm

    @ jenny

n by the way, why don’t you spare some details about yourself? give us some photos from ur *magazine* photoshoot? are you sure they’re not BEFORE/AFTER shots?

  27. 29 No On BrAgGaRtS January 20, 2008 at 4:00 pm

    Jenny dear, welcome back!

But what’s with the language???? Watch out when your beauty becomes famous, your fans may actually smell the foul odor coming from your mouth. You wouldn’t want that would you? The world needs beautiful people like you, won’t you agree, Jenny dear?

Jenny dear, let the growing up begins! YAY!

    Now let’s start with an “a”… hahahahah…..

  28. 30 junsufan January 20, 2008 at 4:05 pm

Maybe kelly, jenny and fantasy are the same ppl. LOL, it rhymes!!

  29. 31 to-'Jenny the pretty' like who cares... January 20, 2008 at 4:24 pm

haha..now im becoming the same person as No On BrAgGaRtS.it will be a nice compliment..she/he use a very good English then.. whatever ‘Jenny Dear’ as long as u r happy..

  30. 32 to-'Jenny the pretty' like who cares... January 20, 2008 at 4:27 pm

    @ fantasy…
i used dear or jenny dear coz she hate it so much!!!what are u expecting???Nice fantasy then..

  31. 33 mist January 20, 2008 at 4:30 pm

perhaps Jenny, kelly nd Fantasy are the same person!!haha..u people really have free time to spare…

  32. 34 No On BrAgGaRtS January 20, 2008 at 4:43 pm

    @ Kelly and fantasy:

Being naive can be cute. I’ll say both of your are naive. But Jenny dear is a little boastful to the point of irritating, won’t you agree? Jenny likened those girls to pigs. Below the belt, I must say. It just so happened that some people mirrored my opinion, which is reasonable. I didn’t see the resemblance in writing, but hey, all of us definitely do not write like Jenny dear, which is good. Your opinions are most welcome but sorry to disappoint.

Now as far as having “jealousy”, I certainly didn’t see any basis of that. I did not see any picture, I don’t know anything about the magazine. In fact all I had was her foul writing. Should I get jealous of that? Not that I am a jealous type. I don’t think so. My opinion is – she crossed the line. For one thing, none of those girls, and I do not even know them because I don’t live in Korea, look offensive. However, beautiful or not, none of us, has the right to justifiably call anyone or reference anyone to a ‘pig’ or to any other offensive names. Now if both of you have reasonable minds, you will agree with me.

All these has nothing to do with Jenny dear being “beautiful and pretty with lots of glamor” (these are her words…. really painful) and her grammar, really. It has everything to do with her shallowness and her outright disregard of basic value that is respect to her fellow human beings.

My opinion stays. Jenny dear needs to some growing up to do.

  33. 35 Kd January 20, 2008 at 5:05 pm

    @Kelly and fantasy
Perhaps, it’s because No On BrAgGaRtS and I share the same opinion, but just to be clear, I’m altogether a different person. I didn’t even call Jenny “Jenny dear” if that makes the both of you happy. :) (Though I must admit, I was really tempted to…)

    @junsufan and mist
Maybe they ARE the same! LOL…

*sigh* The interwebs can be a really funny place.

  34. 36 junsufan January 20, 2008 at 5:24 pm

haha, i’m not the same person as mist, i’ve been commenting on this blog for a long time..
but i must admit..THIS IS VERY FUNNYYY..keep it going! XD

  35. 37 tenshimi January 20, 2008 at 5:40 pm

SHK is pretty i love her eyes!

Well, erm, what an interesting read these comments have turned out to be…

  36. 38 mist January 20, 2008 at 6:03 pm

lol…me = junsufan??why should i be the same person as he/she..i dont have any hide agenda to start changing name..and i know junsufan have been commenting for long time too..

  37. 39 Kd January 20, 2008 at 6:33 pm

    @junsufan and mist:
No, no, no… I was actually agreeing with both of you when the two of you said Jenny, Kelly, and Fantasy must be the same person… sorry for the confusion! T-T

  44. 46 No On BrAgGaRtS January 21, 2008 at 2:01 am

    @No On BrAgGaRtS January 21, 2008 at 12:38 a.m.:

    Poor little Jenny dear…..

  45. 47 No On BrAgGaRtS January 21, 2008 at 2:15 am

Dear Little Jenny dear (you are getting popular by the minute, aren’t you liking it?? LOL)

So now you want us to google? By your name Jenny? Jenny dear, since your ego is so enormous, why don’t you just show yourself to us and let us be the judge to your so-called beauty? Wouldn’t it be easy, Jenny dear? After all, the reason you referenced those girls to pigs is because they do look pigs compared to you, am I right? So your beauty must be one of a kind, something this world has never seen, I gather? So be kind to us by showing us this one of a kind beauty, will you? We would appreciate sincerely. If you do, I promise to stop calling you Jenny dear. Is that fair enough, Jenny dear?

  46. 48 rha crumble January 21, 2008 at 2:39 am

well, I think Jenny isnt serious and is just kiddin everybody cause they all got so offended and aggressive. Doesnt anybody else think so?
