JYP Entertainment and UCC (user created content) site MGoon have organized a 2 day audition at the Seoul Arts High school in Samsung-dong.
A total of 3000 hopefuls showed up or applied beforehand on the internet to take a stab at becoming a star. Only 4 will be chosen to undergo rigorous training to turn plain janes/joes into super star material.
Does this mean we can expect another pop star like Rain?
The auditions are being held January 19 to 20th, 2008.

To become the next “Rain” (I am referring to the level of success), one needs more than just JYP, hard work and charisma. One needs LUCK. Rain’s success (or what used to be) came mainly from Full House. He would have been nothing without Full House.

Wow. You writers should lay off of Rain. He’s young and bound to make mistakes. He’s learning on his own how to manage his own career. It’s ridiculous how that suddenly ends up being the brunt of all of your jokes. BADA, yes, I get why people would poke fun of that entertainer (even though I don’t particularly support negative views of her either). But, RAIN has proved his metal in the past and it’s unfortunate that a few mishaps in his career are suddenly viewed as disdainful and laughable.
no matter how talented and hardworking he may be or how good a producer he is; people still can’t get over his looks. poor guy. I guess this is the world we live in.

Fugly, dancing gorilla – these are a few of the terms used to describe JYP.
Like him or not, he is one of Korea’s most successful music producers and people are dying to be “discovered ” by him .He has made stars out of GOD, Rain, Baek Jiyoung, Wonder Girls, etc – and made heaps of money in the process.
He may not carry a decent tune himself (darn, i detest that falsetto) and has hideous dress sense (check out his performance wardrobe choices since the late 90s)but he’s good at writing songs and composing melodies. In short, he knows a hit when he hears one.
Some might argue the “Asian Soul ” only had limited success with the waning Will Smith, whom he wrote/ produced a track for, collaborated with B-listers like Omarion and Mase but I think that’s an accomplishment for someone who wasn’t born in America and only migrated there ten yrs or so ago. That acceptance is good enough, to me atleast There can only be a handful of Timbalands and P Diddys.
For those familiar with english football, it brings to mind an analogy – the best managers Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho weren’t great players in their day but they know a gem when they see one and are capable of inspiring their gems play to their potential.
Sure, Tell Me had lots of critics saying it was dumb, but the reality is that ppl dig such catchy, radio friendly stuff. It took the top spot for close to 2 mths. Think Spice Girls, circa 1994/95 – did their songs make a lot of sense?
And i think it’s a good thing that he and Rain can now stand shoulder to shoulder (man to man) without the latter feeling he’s my mentor, or ex lover, as some would allege. I’d like to believe the ” fear” he instilled in Rain before has now progressed into mutual respect for each other.
JYP said on an interview one day, he met Rain over drinks and reminisced over the old days when the latter came back from the States over X’mas.
It was reported that he is a hard taskmaster and i believe, off camera, he is nothing like the smiley guy you see on tv to his proteges. He whips them into submission, or shld i say success. I did not doubt what I read on allkpop that he calls the shots until the proteges release their 4th album. He says something to the effect of ” you will not be heard until you have released your 3rd album with me ”
I’d like to see the day his current proteges can stand shoulder to shoulder with him too.

If Rain did get into JYP’s pants to get to where he is, I’d treat that as a fact of life. It happens in hollywood, hallyuwood, bollywood and even in our workplace.

oh, why the heck is everyone care so much about looks?! you gotta admit, this is one dude who’s gonna go down in history. like so many have already said, he has a good eye for talent. and he doesn’t release artists for nothing. and the more props to him for saying no to surgery. if he’d said yes, it’d only have proven how everyone’s so conscious. this man’s a man with talent, regardless of his looks. thank God, there are still some people left who don’t care about the outside. those are the real people with the real hearts!
