On January 2nd, 2008, actor couple Cha In-pyo and Shin Ae-ra adopted a 100 day old baby girl from Uljongbu Welfare Center.
Shin Ae-ra was a volunteer at the Uijeongbu Welfare center where the child was placed.
Cha In-pyo told Star Review (Korean) that his wife grew particularly attached to the baby and prayed for her every night. And when they decided to adopt her, he stated that “the child chooses the parents and for that reason, she is a gift from God”
This is their 3rd child.

100 days old.
(100 days is an anniversary date in korea bc the first 3 month of a baby are the most critical to survive (back in the old days not anymore i guess). So once you pass 100 days you are likely to live on. Couples celebrate the 100th day of their relationship as an anniversary too. Same reason

If you were knowledgeable of the demographic of people that visit Popseoul you would know that not everyone is Korean. So as an American when I read the baby is 100 days old and I say explain in American I mean in months. I am not Korean so I had no idea that 100 days was something cultural to Korea…so to me 100 days makes no sense but now I know…but for Americans we go by months…as far as International English there really is no such thing but there is a difference between American English and British English and Australian as well….

ah, during that thread about stars helping with the ‘adoptions’, the one where they were holding the baby, some mentioned how no stars were adopting. But I guess that stars ARE adopting.
props to this celebrity couple for adopting a child. given how the koreans take many of their cues from the entertainment biz, perhaps it is a small step in ridding the stigma of adoption in Korea.

I’m American as well but when I see 100 days I can easily guess that the baby is 3 mos old. There isn’t much to translate about it really.

They are such good people. Honestly, Korean people in general are very wary of adopting but they just bust through all barriers. Good for them.
You guys are being total asshats in what should be a happy post. All Se7enfan was trying to ask is what is the signifance of the Korean press noting the baby is 100 days (rather than saying 3 months). She didn’t ask you to do a math equation for her. In America, we don’t say 100 days, we say 3 months. Koreans can also say 3 months, so the fact the story deliberately says 100 days begs the question as to why Koreans note the age that way. It was a simple question and you guys are totally out of line with your rude replies.

Just for the record, this is their SECOND adoption. Their second daughter was also adopted, in 2005.
I lve this couple! Maybe what kimchiz meant by Korean Brangelina is because this couple is so hospitable and charitable. They just have so much altruism in them. More blessings for them becoz they just give out so much [=

Good for them! I wish more Koreans would adopt. It’s ridiculous how so many South Korean babies are given up for adoption. Although I hear the numbers have been dropping.
I also wonder abt the “100 days” but thanks to rha crumble who explained. BTW not everyone would thought of searching on it when in the first place they dont know if this is of something significant XD

That’s so sweet to have couples like this! Brangelina takes a lot of heat for what they do, but man if more people could adopt..! So many children need homes and it’s just great to have such caring people willing to provide for them.
