BoA has been secretly preparing her US debut album with Madonna’s producer Peter Rafelson since last year. Unlike Se7en, Rain and other K-pop singers who spend their time flaunting about their grand US debut without producing any results, BoA has been concentrating on producing her album and honing her English skills because she understands the difficulty of crossing over to another country. Finally, someone is approaching the “American Dream” in a more sensible way.
BoA’s US debut plans will be released in March and her US debut is scheduled for May.

OMG! I’m so not excited. I hope SM doesn’t try to test the water with her. Girl can’t even sing in Korean, how can she sing in English? Common now how long has the girl been singing for, like 10 years. She hasn’t improved in anything except for her plastic face. Listen to her first song then listen to the latest song. She still sounds the same, BAD. I’m sure this is just a poll that SM is doing. Hahaha…That’s why they say “secretly planning”.
at least she’s trying for asians. if people don’t try, how will we ever get the opportunity to break into the american industry? it’s effort that counts.
who cares if her english isn’t good? isn’t that why she’s been postponing her debut? she’s working on the weak points right now.

it’s good to see her make the attempt, but unfortunately, as many have already said, i have to agree that she won’t succeed here. it’s really too bad because I have stopped listening to American music…just, none of it sounds good. Hopefully BoA will at least keep her style, unlike Hikaru Utada, whose style completely changed for her American release. That was unfortunate.
Something that BoA has on her side is that she is so incredibly gorgeous. Lately it seems that with American artists, especially female artists, you have to have that sex appeal or else you’re going to make it. It’s sad. I mean, come on…it’s music.

I just hope she doesn’t turned into another Asian sex object, like the infamous Lucy Liu. For those who said she might have a better chance than Se7en or Rain just because she’s a girl and she can dance, they’re wrong. There are more female competition in the pop music industry than male. People like Furgie, Kelly Clarkson, Avril, Rihanna, and Natasha Beingfield didn’t get famous overnight, even Kelly Clarkson took some time cranking songs out before they caught on. When BoA ‘debuts’ in the US it’ll probably take her twice as long as those girls to get recognize.

she has money and fame, all she needs is to work on her english. also the one thing i’m afraid for her is that she will try to take a quirky image… -___-; hopefully she will not fall short of all her recent preparations to a more sexy image, which i think will be better recieved. i’m not sure what she did in japan, but i think it was more like a vintage style? so i think, it’s time to let go of that and return to something more appealing to a general audience!

First, Boa sucks. She has no talent, is a plastic doll who still could use some work and cant really carry a tune. She tries too hard is thinks she is so great. Her music sucks, no real tune and not catchy. So will get DESTROYED! If Utada Hikaru couldn’t really break through in the US, and she is a very good singer who worked with Timbaland, what gives any of you a hope that a no talent skank like Boa could make it? Dude I swear Americans are racist no Asian singer person can make it big like the American does unless you’re like in shows like High school musical than that’s a different story…I doubt she is going to make it big in America though…not to hate but listen to her singing compare it to the American singers…it’s not that great and her fans are so totally overdoing it saying she’s like the star blah blah blah…besides English is hard for foreigners to learn…the last time I listened to BoA singing I almost went death…I didn’t know what the heck the girl was trying to sing…you people out there better be damn glad you guys live in the English-speaking countries…you guys have more chances to be more famous…hahahas that’s one thing I like about living in America…but overall it’s in my opinion so whatever think it’s up to you…

And re: Lea Salonga — she was (and is?) a musical star who broke big with Madame Butterfly or something like that. She was Filipino, not Asian American and there were Asians who protested the musical because they thought it was racist. Some Filipino’s saw her as an icon of someone who ‘made it’ and got a green card and success in the states.
She also sang as the princess for the Disney movie Aladdin but any mainstream pop attempt failed. She is not a pop success story, but a musical success story. I’m not sure where she is now though, so can’t speak to her staying power.
It’s a new millenium though, every 10 years Asian/Americans get more and more integrated and get more breaks in Hollywood and the mainstream music biz. Maybe when we’re all senior citizens there’ll be lots of Asian American stars in the states.

Heard the song, it sounds like a cross between Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Paula Abdul.
It’s all electronic and her voice has been massively edited, she sounds like a robot… which is not popular in the U.S. The song sounds like something from the 90s.
I’m all for her trying for it, but she has to be prepared to spend tons of cash (the radios and music stations don’t play your music and videos for free).
And to those of you who say “who cares if her English is bad?”… you need to stop and think. How can you honestly expect her to make it in an English speaking country if she can’t properly speak the language?

Her song is pretty catchy even though I’m not a fan of her voice- too whiny. BUT: she won’t survive. Even though she’s improved A LOT, THE ACCENT IS STILL THERE. Honestly, who wants to listen to an asian chic singing an english song with an Asian accent? The Asian accent isn’t exactly the sexiest one out there… I like her dancing though. BUT, again: just cuz she has all those famous producers and whatnot working with her, it ain’t gonna work out.
