BoA has been secretly preparing her US debut album with Madonna’s producer Peter Rafelson since last year. Unlike Se7en, Rain and other K-pop singers who spend their time flaunting about their grand US debut without producing any results, BoA has been concentrating on producing her album and honing her English skills because she understands the difficulty of crossing over to another country. Finally, someone is approaching the “American Dream” in a more sensible way.
BoA’s US debut plans will be released in March and her US debut is scheduled for May.
Good luck BoA!
Pop in:
BoA wants soju, not beer
BoA flew to Korea to support her brother’s business launch
Is BoA depressed?

I thought she wanted to be unknown to the US public and retire to the states after she’s 25? oh well, we will see. She’s definitely not going to turn into another Britney and I am sure people will love her!
good luck wishes aside, is it just me or does anybody else think the popping veins on her hand a little scary?
I dunno about this U.S. debut of hers. I heard her sing A Whole New World with Xiah at the Anyband concert and he has better english pronounciation than her. And the duet with British boyband Westlife wasn’t that good either. I hope she can sing with no accent at all because i don’t want people to diss her saying she has a fobby accent. She’s too good to be insulted like that.
Are you serious? she’s planning to debut in the US. Man I doubt she’ll make it.
I heard her English with Junsu and I thought maybe she hasn’t gotten better but damn she still sucks. She sound like a big ol’ F-O-B. Even Junsu sounded better than her.
If she plans on making it in the US she needs to work REAL hard on her english, she needs to get rid of the accent because she has a strong fobby accent.
Plus I don’t think she can sing all that well. Her voice to me is annoying that’s why I was never a fan of hers.
I hope she makes it. Isn’t she just bit tired from all her work? I read somewhere that she wanted to study for college but Papa SM wont allow her. Poor girl. I hope she wont overdo herself.
BoA sucks. She hasn’t been babbling about it because she has to practise waaaay too much her english before debuting, but that doesn’t make her any different from SE7EN or Bi. BoA won’t succeed, and I hope so, because she’s too generic to be true.
Well , even though I don’t think she’s a great singer most of the time , I wish her luck .
Although this also reminds me… when she said she wanted to attend school in the US … I thought that she never even actually finished elementary school? From what I remember reading/hearing, she started training in elementary school and then quit school ? Don’t know if it’s true , but I’m pretty sure she hasn’t graduated from high school, at the very least. Which, you know, ticks me off because she’ll probably end up being accepted to Harvard or something, just because ~ ( and because SM has that whole Harvard program thing going on ~ )
Oh well . Honestly , above all , if she ca lose her accent , then I think she’ll be OK in the US…..
^ yea, i wouldn’t be surprised if harvard accepts her rather than allow another peer institution to “steal” her away (the admission officers are still kicking themselves over the loss of that taliban guy)
well, I wish her luck, but I’m not a fan of her music, nor her looks, nor her dancing… Her accent is horrible, and frankly I don’t understand why she thinks she could succeed where a great talent like utada hikaru/ Tablo/ drunken tiger, etc hasn’t …yet.
Well, I wish her all the best. Hopefully she makes it further than just the plans and actually goes through with it.
she is not going to make it at all. She nothing but 90’s american pop. can’t really sing, can’t really dance, she is a bore. i would see her becoming an actress but i don’t think she can act. She is better off in Asia and maybe Europe. If she becomes big enough in Europe she will already be huge here. I really wish ppl would stop jumping into this. I mean this could ruin them. And i’m talking about My babies Rain and Se7en. I starting to think everybody is going to fail. Including Min and G sOul.
i sense another failure, they should just stay in asia!because Americans generally don’t give a crap about asian artists, well unless they’re those nerdy anime obsessed kids…
If she brushes up on her English..I can see her making it farther than Se7en and Bi did. (Considering that she’s female)
Personally, I think she may make it a bit farther than Bi and Se7en, but I think she’ll catch up to Utada Hikaru. >_>
(Which isn’t too great..)
Still, I wish her luck! She’ll probably be a hit amongst the horny boys.
I have been waiting forever for BoA to make a debut in the states. After all, if Se7en and Rain is going to make a debut there, BoA is definitely not going to be missing out on that opportunity (I mean this in a good way).
I am not a huge fan of BoA, but I like her. Although Se7en and Rain aren’t making a lot of news in the states (or in my country, Canada), I think BoA has a good chance of expanding her popularity here.
In comparison to the two male celebrities I mentioned above, BoA is more well known in the Western countries. For instance, I never listened to Asian stuff until 2006, but I knew who Boa was back in the 1990’s (elementary school). As for those who aren’t into Asian things, most of them have heard of her before =)
You don’t need talent to break into the industry in America, as some people said, look at Soulja Boy. You just need a song that stands out from the others that people will remember (like that dance from the Soulja Boy song). But BoA really needs to work on her english before debuting. But she might get noticed because she’s pretty. Who knows. Her voice isn’t awesome, but she does showcase her strong voice in some of her songs (Moon & Sunrise, Anyband’s Promise U). It’s just sad that America doesn’t really notice Asian artists. But even if she does act, sing, whatever, she NEEDS to learn english better. Even a catchy song with bad english won’t help her. She should get Tablo to teach her.
i doubt she’ll make it in the US. if people are using the english as a factor then just look at Utada. she’s super talented and has no fobby accent and her debut album was produced by timbaland and she didn’t make it.. but seriously utada’s album was a little weird. look at jin, his english was good and he could obviously rap but he didn’t make it. I think you gotta have good english and a catchy tone. best luck to BoA
FIRST! She needs to do a collaboration with a popular US artist. Because of the fact that she’s a foreigner, she needs a big US name to “validate” her if you will. I hate to say that, but if she teams up with an American singer who’s really hot right now, like say, Rihanna or something, then she would have her foot already in the door. Maybe she can be the “chorus” or “catchy hook” girl until she really gets noticed. In America, it’s rare that someone can just “come out” with an album or a song out of nowhere and it become a smash hit. You have to generate hype first and THEN come out with a song….(Bi was on the right track with generating hype. Everyone was interested in him at first buuuuuuut…..well, we all know what happened there…)
SECOND! She needs a REEEAALY hot song. I don’t mean just catchy, I mean TOP CHART catchy! Like that annoying-ass Soldier boy song, it needs to get stuck in everyone’s heads. That is where Utada Hikaru failed. She had all of the hottest songs over in Japan, but when she came to America, she had that lame-ass (sorry utada ~_~) “Easy Breezy” song. (Who in the HELL decided on that song!?!)
THIRD! She needs to learn how do dance…….the American way….Once again, I really hate to say this, but America is NOT known for being conservative. If she wants to make it in America, she needs to show some skin, and come out with some Ciara-like moves. The bubble gum pop dances are sooooo like, 90’s in America, so if she brings that Britney Spears trash over here she will DEFINITELY not be taken seriously. Se7en and Bi have the dancing thing down pat.
So, all in all, I think she has a chance if she gets the right people around her. The English-learning thing has already been said, so no need to re-hash it here. To be honest with you guys (don’t hurt me) I really want her to stay in Asia. Asian music is so different than American music, and I don’t want her to have to switch up her style just to fit an American audience. Because she’s a girl, she’s going to have to dress like a whore and sing suggestive lyrics JUST to fit in. I think it’s refreshing to turn off all of the American crap and listen to some “feel good” music once in a while…
Um… BoA is… REALLY Asian. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to better phrase that, but I can’t, really. A jump from the eastern to western market is going to be tough, and that girl’s english has not improved in the past like five years. I heard her sing A Whole New World at that AnyBand concert, and unless she was trying to throw us all off, her accent is still pretty cringeworthy. I don’t really like BoA, but I don’t dislike her either… so from a fairly impartial point of view, I have to say I don’t think she’ll get that far. But good luck to her, anyway!
Meh, let’s not forget she is mentioned in England’s history textbooks.
hi , wow bOA in north America is cute
gogogog BoA , all fans from peru is crazys
whit this news waaa- thank
good look para BoA is once dream
hmmmmm i’m rooting for BoA
even tho i dun really like her music….i think people will like her here
umm… i don’t get how she gets praise on this post for being “secretly” planning to debut in the US when you basically bash other celebrities for “secretly” helping out with the oil spill in korea… which the latter do have better intentions because they actually do help the country for the better… O.o
i think rain ans se7en did rush into it a little. boa is taking it slow and making sure
So… this means no Korean album?
At least Boa already has one edge over other American artists: she can dance like crazy. All my friends and the media over here seem to consider Britney (or used to atleast) and her random arm movements and twirls to be good dancing. Plus, guys don’t think girls can pop and lock well so I’m glad someone can finally prove them wrong (particularily because most people here also think asains can’t dance -__-;;;)
Anyways, good luck to her and hopefully she will be successfull.
I’m sure she’s a lovely girl, and I know she’s basically Korea’s pop princess, but the reality is that the Asian market is a totally different story from the US market. If she plans to succeed, she needs MORE than just a catchy song, a pretty face and good English skills to get noticed. I just feel she’s not ready or that she’s lacking. Hopefully, she’ll prove me wrong.
i don’t love her that much either
but you guys are all saying she has a huge accent
She hasn’t spoken english on a show for a long time so who knows how much she has improved? Everyone knows how hard she works haters and fans a like. so give her a chance.
Yes the chances of any asian artist making it in America are quite slim but we are all saying this before they even tried. Atleast they have the damn courage to try.
If they fail they fail. they can brush it off and try again. Its not like everything can work out perfectly. These people are human. Accents are so hard to lose. Look at all those Asian American parents who immigrated over to the US and lived here for like 10 years and still have accents..
I hate Bi and the last time i heard him talk in english was still really fobby but it was better than the first time i heard him.
SM needs some better hook ups. JYP has the best.
Its still sad how asians are all generalized. It pisses me off how some people view us.
omg, cant wait, BOA FIGHTING, i’ll support her forever, >< =] hope to see her more often since i’m living in the U.S
I agree with motley & daneil.
Promotion & marketing is very important. There are several mediocre artists in America but have great promotion. Also, success doesn’t happen on the first try, so it’s inevitable that they will try again. Just look at our history. Many things have changed because of people’s persistence and efforts to make a difference. It’s not entirely perfect, but we have come a long way.
i’ll admit i’m a huge boa fan. I would love to also say that whatever her decisions are is good/fine with me.. but really deep down i dont want her to debut in us +__-s
i can’t wait! i hope asian artists will become popular in the US, even though it’s a huge step
We don’t know if she will be successful in crossing over, but let’s give her major props for even attempting to do it. Because Asians aren’t popular in the music industry here in the U.S., it takes a lot of patience, commitment, and hard work to even consider debuting here. Major props to BoA!
Even if she won’t succeed, at least Asians can continue trying. And if we’re going to be so pessimistic about whether our fellow Asian will succeed or not, what makes us think Americans will believe she can succeed? Show some support guys!
I’m glad an Asian, and female Asian is working so hard to come into the Western industry. Best of luck to BoA!
There seems to be a lot of negativity everywhere i look regarding BoA’s cross-over ability. I think she has it, i have got my friends who never listened to asian msuic b4 heavily into BoA, se7en, big mama etc. Thsoe artists all have immense talent. BoA can sing, dance and is pretty. Shakira speaks with a thick colombian accent. No one discriminates against her, I think as long as its understandable it shouldnt be a problem. I have a real issue with the Americanization of everything. thats why people turn to the east for something new because the west is stale-hence y they keep remaking asian and african movies. OK i digress but as BoA is my fav artist i really believe in her. I dont care i’ll support her and buy her cds.
damn i just realised how many typos i made. this damn blackberry!
ok..what a surprise. wow.
i don’t have confidence in the americans. they will mostly likely make fun of boa and call her “the asian girl” or w/e. insults that boa certainly does not deserve. and i’d hate to see that happen. but i hope she’ll be really shaped up for the US debut..if not..sigh.
but i’d still be the huge boa fan that i am
So, does this mean that dbsk will soon debut in America as well? *crosses fingers*
Good Luck, Boa!!!
good luck to ya.. ^^.. aja aja!~ hehex.. more powers to you!!
is this even for sure yet? i thought she was supposed to go into acting, but that hasn’t happened yet. and isn’t she going to be on tour during may in japan? it just doesn’t make sense if they’re going to rush her us debut like this.
eh. her english is still terrible.
and comparing BoA’s accent to Shakira is comparing apples to oranges I think. Whereas romanance languages tend to mesh well together accent wise (I mean, we all hear about the endlessly sexy French/Spanish accent in movies and in high school). Somehow an Asian accent is never defined as “sexy.” It might just be due to integration of the accent into society. Also it’s a lot harder to understand an Asian accented speaker than an accented speaker of a language closer to English. I don’t how far this arguement would fly linguistically but that’s always been my impression.
Speaking of….
I think it would be interesting if someone would come out with a song that is a Korean/English hybrid. It would lessen some of the tension to speak in English the whole time. Spanish/English songs tend to go over well, sp I think it would be interesting to adopt a similiar style. I think a 60% English, 40% Korean song might fly. May even make the singer seem more ‘exotic’
i think she’ll be a flop in the us market, sorry boa. just stick staying in sm entertainment and perform in japan!
Um. Yeah, it’s not a secret it anymore and there will probably be delays for her too if it’s not ready now. And SM already dropped a famous producer’s name. How is this any different from the other Kpop artists debuting in the States? This is still stirring hype for her.
I swear, some people are so hypocritical.
I made a research and there’s an Asian who became popular in the US and Europe.
Lea Salonga-Chien (born Maria Ligaya Carmen Imutan Salonga on February 22, 1971 in the Philippines) is a multi-awarded Filipino singer and actress who is best known for her highly-acclaimed portrayal of Kim in the musical Miss Saigon.[1] In the field of musical theater, she is recognized for having won the Olivier, Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics, and Theatre World Awards, the first to win various international awards for a single role.[2][3] She was also the first Asian to play Eponine in the musical Les Misérables on Broadway.[4]
Salonga recently released her first studio album in seven years called “Inspired,” which has just been certified platinum.[5] She also just finished another stint in the musical Les Misérables on Broadway, this time as Fantine,[6][7] and is appearing in a number of musical events scheduled in different countries until 2008.[8][9][10]
In her 30-year career thus far, Salonga has performed for five Philippine presidents (from Ferdinand Marcos to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo), three American Presidents (George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush), and for Princess Diana and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
we should all be optimistic for another Asian to hit in the US.
Good Luck BoA!
hopefully she can master her english. American market is not easy and i personally her voice is just h…that good
Woo good luck BoA!
stop dissing her just cuz of her english skills.look beyond that, sheesh.
say BO-A~!good luck BoA we are all behind you
omo I’m surprised. Hopefully she’ll do well. Good luck to her.

Can you name Asians that have been popular in the US?”
Hmmm… Yao Ming. ^^
Haven’t found the singer. But there are some Asian actors that have been popular in US: Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Lee, Chow Yun Fat.
well what I’m sayin is just give BoA a chance maybe she could knock out the US.
maybe US tired to watch their female singers that keep exposing their bodies to attract the audience, so Boa could be something new and fresh in US.. Hope she won’t imitate the US female singers’ style.
What happened to her V pace on the picture? TT
omfg. i love boa! awesome she’s coming to the states! <33
Good for her! Lately, all I hear is how so and so Korean star wants to infiltrate the American entertainment industry and none of them speak a word of English! It’s good that she keeps all the hype down and hone on her English skills if she wants an American fan base.
