It's almost May... And re: Lea Salonga -- she was (and is?) a musical star who broke big with Madame Butterfly or something like that. She was Filipino, not Asian American and there were Asians who protested the musical because they thought it was racist. Some Filipino's saw her as an icon of someone who 'made it' and got a green card and success in the states. She also sang as the princess for the Disney movie Aladdin but any mainstream pop attempt failed. She is not a pop success story, but a musical success story. I'm not sure where she is now though, so can't speak to her staying power. It's a new millenium though, every 10 years Asian/Americans get more and more integrated and get more breaks in Hollywood and the mainstream music biz. Maybe when we're all senior citizens there'll be lots of Asian American stars in the states. Is there an update on this? It’s almost May…
