Celebs put on their best hanboks to celebrate the New Lunar Year

Jewelry_20080206_popseoul

Hanbok, the Korean traditional dress is worn during the holidays and although the practice is becoming obsolete in modern day Korea, it’s great seeing celebs embracing our culture to its fullest.

On sul-nal, Koreans typically eat ddok-guk, rice cake soup in the morning. Then families gather to bow to elders in return for allowance. This is the best time of the year for underaged kids, but once you reach the legal drinking age, it ain’t so fun anymore, for you are expected to cough up some dough for the youngins in your family.

Happy New Lunar Year!

Check out other lovely hanboks worn by celebs.

Another reason, why I wish I had a Korean aunt or Uncle. Allowance. Why is Lee Junki the only one wearing a decorative hanbok? It suits him.

  11. 11 Promote Korean food February 7, 2008 at 6:14 am

Koreans need to really work on promoting their country’s culture to the world! Korean food is so delicious, but it’s not as popular to the level it needs to be. I don’t know why the Korean government won’t promote their country and culture to the world. It would really benefit their country and boost their economy as well. My favorite beer is CASS. It’s so delicious.

I hope Korean-Americans, and other ethnic Koreans promote their culture in the country they reside in.

Hyundai, Kia, LG, Hankook Tires, Kumho, Samsung, LG, Daewoo, Cass, Hite, OB Beer, Ottogi, etc. are awesome korean companies.

LG should sponsor an arena or stadium in the U.S.A. It should be called the LG Center, like how there is the Staples Center in Los Angeles, etc. Koreans need to break out of their tight knit shell to promote their country’s culture. It will really help the country’s economy.

  13. 13 Torie February 7, 2008 at 8:46 am

although I am korean, i have to say that the hanbok for males can’t get any gayer…pink, puffy pants and lime green jogori…dang.

  15. 15 nerdyazn February 7, 2008 at 9:23 am

  16. 16 BigMeat February 7, 2008 at 9:47 am

    Promote Korean food

What Korea needs to promote is their sex industry. Because from what I hear they have one of the biggest sex industries in the world. Over 500,000 korean women are in the industry.

Testing, because I seemed to have been blocked from posting comments. =/

Okay, then it’s just the other thread about Joo, where I tried four times under different names and emails before I gave up because nothing was submitting at all. Is this some odd attempt at censorship, Popseoul? If that’s the case, it’s rather sad.

  20. 20 jehan February 7, 2008 at 10:00 am

when the flower festival started in our place, every february, i was always amazed at how the Korean Community participated in the street parades and showed the people from all over the country how beautiful and rich hanboks are… i hope i could wear one in the future, hehe!

  33. 34 promote Korean food February 8, 2008 at 3:22 pm

koreans need to promoote korean food. it’s still quite unknown compared to Japanese food and Chinese food. Koreans need to brand their country and let people all over the world know about korean food. When people know about korean food, it’s a good marketing strategy for their country.

Koreans also need to stop the extreme littering. all countries have littering problems, but in korea, it’s too extreme.

  34. 35 eunbit February 8, 2008 at 3:44 pm

  39. 40 김효진 March 4, 2008 at 3:59 am

    i lyk everyone..
    in hanbok, they look elegant..

  40. 41 Wilkes March 8, 2008 at 6:31 pm

I don’t like modern hanboks of the past couple centuries. I like the older ones where they don’t wear the short bolero type jackets. I like Korean costumes that have long jackets, belts, girdles and flowing skirts. they looked more like ancient chinese dresses.
