Song Hye-kyo makes fun of big heads

20080208sonhyekyo3

As you may already know, Koreans are sensitive to the size of their faces since the national consensus is that a smaller face equates to a beautiful face. This assertion is absolutely absurd.

However we are reminded that some people still think that way. For example, in Song Hye-kyo’s new commercial (CF) for Nintendo DS, she exclaims in a cute way, “oh, the head is so big!” of the snowman from the game she is playing. A snow man! Now snowmen are subjected to discrimination against face size.

I guess that snowman can never be a star in Korea.

I didnt blame her…she only said her lines!!

Actually I have big heads and wide face, typical asian ^___^
I found ,that small face is pretty, really amusing (haha)

Fortunately, i dont live in Korea… Most of the media in Korea often judge ppl by their appearance, which is not fair…because it’s not what we (or me..^^”) want to have big head or typical asian face…

O…well…hope in the future (or now!!) Korean media will be more couraging ppl (esp. women) to appreciate wht they already have…

You really cannot blame people for thinking that Popseoul is attacking Song HyeKyo when they give a title “Song Hye-kyo makes fun of big heads” for the entry. It could be very misleading. Actually, the write-up IS misleading. I honestly don’t see the connection between the issue of Koreans having something against big heads with what SHK said on the CF. It’s not like she is making fun of the snowman for having a big head. She is stating a fact: the snowman on the game has a big head. And as we know – unless you have never seen a snowman before – snowmen normally have heads way smaller than their bodies.

If people need to learn the art of reading, then Popseoul should learn the art of writing something that doesn’t mislead.

    @ ginger vitality:
Fine, so Popseoul is trying to relate two different things with something.

Small face is better than big face (As perceived by Korean society?).

The snow man has big head (Because the head was replaced with the bigger snow ball that makes it bigger than the body. SO it’s not “a normal snowman with big face”).

Ineteresting? Indeed, that a famous blog Popseoul can come up with that logic.

And I guess Popseoul writers are laughing in front of their computer to see how many people are arguing about whatever subject they wrote.

Seems like Shenyuepop has clearer and more objective style.

This writer is trying so damn hard, she/he/IT looks dumb. Poor writer! Nothing else to extract your “brain” on? Sheesh..!

On a positive note,SHG is so cute in this CF, she doesn’t look 26. Love her!

  5. 5 Blahblahbon February 9, 2008 at 12:41 am

Man, I love the language, and I love the men, but holy sh*t..Korean’s are just as shallow as Americans.

  6. 6 shk4ever February 9, 2008 at 4:03 am

is SHK thought to have a large face? she kinda does, to me, but she’s still so freakin, hilariously gorgeous!!!

but now that you mention it, i hate snowmen!

this blog and all the responses are funny.

  7. 7 bruce willis February 9, 2008 at 5:39 am

i hope you’re only talking about the females or else you people don’t know your aesthetics. it’s a known fact that men with literally large heads were chosen to become movie stars. clark gable, cary grant, fairbanks jr., me, and many more. men wth small heads look like snakes. there is someone in a korean boyband that looks like a snake because he has small features and head. i don’t remember the band though. maybe you can give names of a few snakey looking men. women with large heads though are not pretty. have you seen my daughter rumer?

  8. 8 han February 9, 2008 at 6:29 am

    omo so cute!
i love her so much T_____T
and she is so NOT overrated!! she really is the most beautiful person ever
those who think she’s overrated, you guys should see her up close! she’s just so angelic & flawless

her head isn’t particularly tiny though, but she still is the most gorgeous thing ever

  9. 9 Tiffany February 9, 2008 at 6:30 am

I hate the shape of my face. I envy those with small faces =P

I sometimes wonder if the Korean girls I see on the streets had plastic surgery before. There are times when their faces are so small (did I mention they are completely acne free and their skin is super white?) that I can’t believe it’s even possible. For instance, there’s a Korean girl working at my store and her face is the smallest I have ever seen! I have small hands, and I am pretty sure most of my hand can cover her face. What in the world is up with that?

  10. 10 Raye February 9, 2008 at 7:51 am

i like Song and i think poseoul is overreacted but this cf is very similar to Nicole’s

  11. 11 hhhhh February 9, 2008 at 8:16 am

    she’s too cute!!!!!!!

  12. 12 shk4ever February 9, 2008 at 8:26 am

actually, I heard Vanna White was chosen specifically because she had a large face.

  13. 13 overrated cow February 9, 2008 at 10:02 am

    Blah! A boring, OVERATED celebrity.
    snooooooooze!

  14. 14 Angel February 9, 2008 at 12:27 pm

    Its like
    the reason why Koreans say
    smaller heads are better
isn’t because its so much prettier or something.
It’s because on TV, it look normal and it looks like a celeb. face/head in a way but if a person with a normal sized head or even a bit large-sized head, on TV, they won’t look proportioned and their head will look extremely huge.
That’s why most celebs in Korea have a small face and also
to be honest, a small face + normal eyes + normal nose[not super flat tho. buhh asian nose(Y)] = beautiful.
And im korean so like.. don’t say that’s not how koreans think .Lol But people think people with POINTY POINTY noses are like awesome-ly celebrity. Uhh no. Only the crazy koreans think so.
I personally like my nose. Its not super pointy but it STANDS, its small and its not super flat. Lol :]

    Peace out<3

  15. 15 joyce February 9, 2008 at 2:12 pm

    geez guys calm down..
it was in the script, and besides the snowman’s head was really big for its body.. i would say the same thing..
did some of of you really saw the cf??

and by the way.. popseoul has this thing for everythign and everyone close to rain.. hahaha

  16. 16 hero February 9, 2008 at 3:29 pm

All you dumbasses talking smack about P-Seoul: If you don’t like what the writers have to say; take your brokeass somewhere else. All you fools tripping about “this” and I don’t like “that” need to just stop making your life so god damn miserable and just don’t come here. So DUMB some of you ppl.

  17. 17 ginger vitality February 9, 2008 at 5:27 pm

@akakaze: Well, i liked your point of view tough i have to read it a few times to differinciate between HEAD and FACE.^-^ and I like the fact that ypu mention people

Well, actually I have learn skills of reading as well skills of writing not that important to mention here except that what I been observed here, PopSeoul used a cynical, sarcasm and critical way of writing. Yes! She write her topic in a provocative ( not misleading ) way that will invite 1000 speculation and assumption. But that is a blogger or a writers of rumors is all about. Still, it is better because she is still equal in her writing tough not fully satifying by most of us. Thati see in my humble opinons.

Tough it is not i agreed on everything in her writing and it is not a perfect there is something that the readers didnt satisfied but that make remakr question. We disagrred her, we didnt contradict with her, we didnt satisfied by what she writing, we think she didnt do her homework, bla..bla..bla. but why we are still visiting her blog and commenting her post? That is because tough we always critizing- well it is ok if it is on decent manner and objective not biased emotionally-, say this and that., I didnt found one that Popseoul will attack us again.

That is the stronger point that eventough people didnt like everything what she write and satisfied with the posts entries peoples like this blog.

It is like two way communication, she wrote what she want tough it is not correct 100% or satisfying for some pepole, we as the visitor, get what we want to gulity pleasure of reading and satisfaction on giving an opinon or being opinionted.

If you say that, I respected your view * Bow down. What I read is “Song Hye-kyo make fun of big heads of a snowman in CF; that a phrase of bighead persay is not a pretty structure of a face in Korean culture.

Then, it is merely in my humble opinons, people could differ in objective way. I respected the blog owner and what we have here is what we get.

  18. 18 ginger vitality February 9, 2008 at 5:39 pm

Sorry typo: we CONTRADICT. I have to learn skill of typing tough. I’m a humanbeing that is has lots of flaw.^_%

Well, we said that she has to learn skill or writing BUT we also has to learn skill of reading a cynical blog with provocative topics ( read between the lines ). Well, we are the vistoirs of this ‘house’ by the way. What should we ask more. Being different is normal but in objective and decent way.

  19. 19 han February 9, 2008 at 9:34 pm

lol i found it’s amusing. People are being too sensitive. I think it was just a mere statement that SHK made ( in accordance with the script) in the CF. I guess being a small head is a requirement in korean movie industry but it doesn’t mean it’s beautiful. As most you guy can see i can fine tone of beautiful hollywood celebs that have big head like angelina jolie, kate hudson, nicole kidman… and they don’t have such stupid surgery to reduce their faces. Btw, big head means more brain lol

  20. 20 angel26_j February 10, 2008 at 12:56 am

    Hwahahahahaha…
But its the fact that the snowman’s head was twice bigger than its body in the game… Of course she would say that…
Geez ppl are being OVER SENSITIVE…

  21. 21 Frosty_The_Snowman February 10, 2008 at 2:12 am

Hey, STOP talking about my BIG HEAD. You are all so mean. Next you’ll be talking about my carrot nose and twig arms. Can’t we all just get along?

  22. 22 Melissa February 10, 2008 at 4:50 am

“I guess that snowman can never be a star in Korea.”

haha i laughed at that! cute snowman :D

  23. 23 Melissa February 10, 2008 at 4:51 am

and the comment above my previous comment, HAHA! ^^^^

  24. 24 Cassidy February 10, 2008 at 9:29 am

WTF! Hye-Kyo didn’t mean it THAT way. The character put a head larger than the snowman’s body on. Obviously, that would make it “too big.”

  25. 25 Fleep February 10, 2008 at 10:33 am

Actually snow men are quite cute with their big heads.

  26. 26 wth February 11, 2008 at 8:49 am

all korean celebs have pretty big heads except for super junior, dbsk, and snsd.

  27. 27 wtf February 11, 2008 at 11:09 am

lol ure so retarded this has nothing to do with Koreans being senstive to how big their heads are..
It’s just unbalanced isn’t it? When ure head is bigger then the body?

  28. 28 blinkable February 11, 2008 at 2:49 pm

*haha* The title got me here and all I got was snowmen XD She looks cute tho ;)

  29. 29 Ange February 11, 2008 at 4:14 pm

heeeeeeY….what’s the big deal of BIG HEAD!? It doesn’t matter if you had it and as long as you can carry it anywhere it’s okey.

  30. 30 hearts February 12, 2008 at 8:29 am

song hye kyo is overrated b/c ppl keep saying she’s a “natural beauty” but she is not. she got a plastic bridge. well, that’s a lot less than other korean celebs, but it doesn’t change the fact that she’s gone under the knife. kim tae hee is the one who is all natural.

anyway, why would anyone want to have a tiny head? only tiny ppl have tiny heads, like song hye kyo. she’s a midget, so her head would be tiny. i’d rather be tall and sexy and have a bigger head.

  31. 31 Rachael February 12, 2008 at 3:45 pm

haha. well, any face bigger than the person’s body is too big :P

  32. 32 Uci March 13, 2008 at 3:55 pm

    You very beatiful and smart….

    I love you Song Hye-kyo

  33. 33 toodles March 14, 2008 at 2:29 pm

    Does Popseoul understand Korean?

Yes its stupid that many Koreans equate beauty with a small face.

However, in this Commercial, the Statement was taken out of context. The actress was just referring to the fact that she made a weird snowman. Not that it was attractive or not.

The classical snowman has a body graduating from small on top to big on bottom.

Song just made one with a large head on accident. Thats all she was referring to!

Popseoul really should be more deliberate with the things she posts.

  34. 34 boua March 14, 2008 at 10:59 pm

    she very beatiful
    i love you Song Hye-kyo
i want to see your drama, songhyekyo and jeongjihoon

  36. 36 d April 8, 2008 at 10:53 am

oh, she’s pretty. i like her.
but why on earth did she make fun of big head? for her short frame, i don’t consider the size of her head or face small either!

  37. 37 kimcing April 14, 2008 at 1:51 am

    oh…she is so cute……*_*
