Zhangliyin5_popseoul_20080220

It’s Zhang Li Yin, one of Father SM’s many manifestations. She’s gone back to her roots and made an official debut in China with her first Mandarin album. As usual, the package includes little “gifts” from our Kpop Santa.

Super Junior’s Han Kyung and Choi Si-won will star with actress Lee Yeon Hee in the MV for “星愿 (I will)” (星愿 literally translates as ’star wish’ and has almost the same pronunciation as ‘wish’ in Mandarin). Han Kyung also scores another feature in her song “初恋 (First Love)”. In addition, she has recorded “One more try” in preparation for a Chinese victory in the August Olympics.

Along with the new tracks are also enclosed her hits from last year “Timeless” and “Y (why…)”. An ambitious and possibly underestimated musician as she is, looks to be out in full force. With Zhang Li Yin back in the scene and casting her net wider, amassing more fans from the mother land, it’s no doubt that she will make a bigger name for herself in 2008. But is she really just a Plain Jane or will she be able to live up to her mentor’s hopes of becoming a Chinese BoA?

  10. 10 Lolly February 20, 2008 at 11:36 pm

ew…she looks really weird and is cross-eyed.

  11. 11 varms February 20, 2008 at 11:37 pm

I hope she sings better this time…

  12. 12 Fireee February 21, 2008 at 12:08 am

I thought she was great in Timeless!!… just not live.
    And she looks weird.

  13. 13 sdjas February 21, 2008 at 12:55 am

well, in terms of face, and attractiveness she’s way behind boa…but, her voice is like WOAHHHH especially for an asian…i love Ri In and hope she makes it HUGE!

  14. 14 lalala February 21, 2008 at 1:00 am

her voice is good, but she cant sing live which just means her voices sucks .lol. i liked Y though, it’s a nice song *i sing along to it XD*

hm, yes, she is crossed eye. until today, these pics make her look SO chinese-ish. i’ve seen her timeless photoshoot but she looked ok. now she looks so skinny and weird @_@!!

her nose is kinda big LAWL. but she is pretty. i’m not a fan of BoA =_=, IMO li yin has a better voice than BoA.

i’ll just wait and see ^^

  15. 15 christine February 21, 2008 at 1:29 am

I like her … but the hair needs to go.

  16. 16 bon February 21, 2008 at 1:39 am

Erm, not pretty, though good vocal.

  17. 17 Lily February 21, 2008 at 2:11 am

I can’t wait for her album

  18. 18 Hahna February 21, 2008 at 2:52 am

She is a natural beauty! Just because she doesn’t have the same korean plastic surgery look doesn’t mean she’s not pretty!! anyways this is just my opinion but her voice definitely ROCKS and definitely better than any of those STDS girls!!!! lolz yes that is what I call them

  19. 19 Amber February 21, 2008 at 2:56 am

OMH! I love LiYin! She has a POWERFUL voice that gives you goosebumps and she doesnt show alot of skin…wich I respect ^^ I hope she does great!
But I dont see why people are calling her Chinese BoA? I mean she is nothing like BoA.
    ^^ I just doent get it…

  20. 20 jrizzle February 21, 2008 at 3:07 am

    i like her singing

  21. 21 Raye February 21, 2008 at 3:31 am

She is better then BoA ppl just haven’t seen it yet. She is amazing. Her voice is off the wall. But i don’t like those new pics of her. Not flattering at all.

  22. 22 nx512 February 21, 2008 at 3:46 am

    she’s ugly.. o_o

  23. 23 jaenie February 21, 2008 at 4:11 am

she’s not as pretty as boa
but i believe she has a stronger, better voice…only thing is that she has some problems performing to a large group or something…cause seems like she gets a bit shaky…also she had a bit of a problem with pronunciating korean words. but now that she’s singing in her own language i guess she’ll do better.

  24. 24 susan February 21, 2008 at 4:12 am

this girl’s voice is insane, love her <3

  25. 25 B February 21, 2008 at 4:52 am

    To Amber

    I agree that she has a VERY powerful voice! >_<; Personally though , I think it’s TOO powerful . It makes me go ” ugh ” when she sings ( for example in Y or ” Why ” or whatever it’s called . lol and also in Timeless …. ) I feel like she forces her voice too much , and therefore it comes out sounding very gruff ……… almost too ” ARGH ” like , if that makes sense . ^^;;;;

And it’s the first time I see her . Creepy , is all I can say . @__@;; Definitely NOT what I expected her to look like ! She looks weird .

  26. 26 Annie February 21, 2008 at 4:55 am

But definitely average looking but she has an amazing voice. Shi won, Han kyung and lee yeon hee will be featured in her MV again? Can’t wait!

  27. 27 haj February 21, 2008 at 5:45 am

i think her voice is powerful, but she doesnt have good control.
    maybe its cuz she doesnt speak korean as well but a lot of the time she sounds like she choking -_-;

  28. 28 Snow Angel February 21, 2008 at 6:16 am

i lik her, she hav an awesome voice =]
    good luch JRI

  29. 29 okeydoke February 21, 2008 at 6:30 am

i hope her voice is prettier than her face.

  30. 30 jinhee February 21, 2008 at 7:02 am

I don’t know…I find her extremely boring. Great voice, yes, but nothing else.

  31. 31 spin February 21, 2008 at 7:11 am

she’s extremely plain. On that land mass we call china, we all know there are plenty of attractive girls who can sing.

Obviously, SM doesn’t want anything to distract the audience – first get the chinese fans interested w/ his tokens, and then turn on the SM star charm from BoA.

  32. 32 suga February 21, 2008 at 7:30 am

she sings nice, just need a bit of personality

  33. 33 Jenny Jen February 21, 2008 at 8:10 am

powerful voice, but not very good control. her voice blew me away in her studio recordings, but made me cringe when she sang live O_O. i hope she improved.

other than that she´s not very pretty. she´s cute, but not drop dead gorgeous.

  34. 34 steviewonder06 February 21, 2008 at 8:30 am

    shes sooooo pretty
    and i luv her voice
and no one can be another BoA!
    haha =]

  35. 35 big bang Ü February 21, 2008 at 8:40 am

good for her. but i don’t think she would look like a chinese BoA.

  36. 36 daneil February 21, 2008 at 8:41 am

she needs to learn how to control her big voice.. then she would be a pretty good singer

  37. 37 keke February 21, 2008 at 8:43 am

I love her voice…not so much her looks
    but she has talent!
    btw
    love the new banner

  38. 38 Lawa February 21, 2008 at 9:50 am

She doesnt have to be chinese boa. her voice is really good but yet cant sing live. i believe she will improve.
how old is her? she look like 25++ years old

  39. 39 popseoulreader February 21, 2008 at 9:51 am

    Hahna:

She is NO natural beauty! you idiot!
She got a nose job! just search her picture, biatch!
    She had mad flat nose!
even with surgery she is hella ugly!
her live still isn’t improved after 2-3 years of training.

i dont know about her making big. maybe SM can bombard the chinese media with her, she could get some spotlight, but i doubt it. just listen to her recent live, you will know what i mean.

  40. 40 guest February 21, 2008 at 9:56 am

woah… she is NO next boa. wtf?
she might have better voice than BoA, but she has no where near close to the same charisma and aura that BoA has as a female artist. let’s see if she could even get bits of what BoA has had achieved.

Oh and sorry to burst your “natrual” beauty crap.

Zhang is no where close to natural. She got plastic surgery. I saw her before pictures. She looks way better than before but still is not that pretty.

  41. 41 BKJSuh February 21, 2008 at 10:27 am

    Epic failure.

  42. 42 bloo February 21, 2008 at 10:48 am

She’s so average and awkward looking, but her voice is nice.

  43. 43 tomoko February 21, 2008 at 11:01 am

she’s the one who sang timeless with DBSK’s Junsu, right?

not too fond of her live voice… the recording was really good. but her live voice sounded weak… i mean, no doubt she has a good voice. it just sounded WEAK… like she couldn’t handle a concert; after one song, her voice would be screwed.

  44. 44 penguin_x3 February 21, 2008 at 12:20 pm

she looks freakin old for her age

  45. 45 Skina February 21, 2008 at 1:08 pm

awww they’re using the same actors from Timeless~~
cant wait to drool over the MV!!kakakaka

  46. 46 kim yuna February 21, 2008 at 2:08 pm

why is it alwayas han kyung and siwon…. seriously i don’t have a problem because they’re cute but like seriously… why are they always the only ones featured in mv.?

  47. 47 Ducttapequeen February 21, 2008 at 2:46 pm

she’s not that pretty but she has a good set of pipes. She’s extremely talented in singing, i think thats all the really matters so far.

  48. 48 jyyjc February 21, 2008 at 3:26 pm

people are taking this “chinese boa” thing too seriously. i believe that was just use to get fans attention during her debut. her voice is amazing, and she has plenty of room to improve on her live singing. and i know she’s not drop dead gorgeous but come on, she’s not UGLY..well i guess that’s a matter of opinion.

anyway, i’m definitely buying her album, go li yin!

  49. 49 Elle February 21, 2008 at 3:39 pm

I am really glad that Jang Ri In is making a comeback, especially with a Chinese album. If you’re familiar with mainland Cpop, you’ll know that the quality is lacking and a lot of the Cpop talents are drawn from Taiwan. And even in Taiwan, untalented singers are claiming fame just for their faces. Hopefully, Jang Ri In will be the singer to break that barrier.
I personally think Jang Ri In’s voice has more potential than BoA’s. It’s not only powerful, but also has soul and emotions. Her sound is definitely not for the light listener. She’s only 17, and therefore has lots of room to grow.
It’s a real shame that SM has not put a lot of promotional efforts on her. Her lives have gotten a lot better since the initial Timeless days, and if you heard her sing Magic Castle in Chinese during a Samsung Olympic event, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
She’s not a failure in her potential and talent, she’s only lacking the management support that SMAC can offer. So hopefully they’ll soon come to realize that.
And I love how half the comments on here are about her looks and how she’s not physically appealing. She’s a music artist, not a model. This is exactly why half of the music scene has gotten to where it is, where superficial-ness rules above talent. Judge her by her talents first and you’ll see beyond the looks.

  50. 50 Earel February 21, 2008 at 3:57 pm

I am glad to hear this girl is coming back to the musical scene. And… I totally agree with Elle. This girl has still a lot to show and offer us! Just I hope she gets the support she deserves. =)
    Fighting Zhang Li Yin!
