Park Ji-yoon does An An magazine

20080220-anan

You would think that magazines in Korean in Korea would feature Korean celebrities on its covers. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Most are foreign models and very few Korean stars. And you wonder why people in this country are striving to look more “western.”

Anyhoo. Just had to let that out.

For March 2008, Wild-haired Park Ji-yoon graces the cover of (Japanese-based) fashion magazine, An An. Girl looks fabulous with the crazy hair and simple outfits.

The singer turned actress stars in the SBS drama, Bichunmo and will make a comeback as singer in April 2008 after 4 years.

And if Koreans don’t respect themselves, how can they expect anyone else to respect them? There’s a major image issue among Koreans and one only needs to look at their celebrities to see the proof.

  11. 11 faith February 23, 2008 at 11:34 pm

is it just me or does her horrible posture bother anyone else? why would they put that as the cover? ick

  12. 12 --- February 24, 2008 at 12:56 am

oh, so that’s why it’s a BIG DEAL for them for them to make it on the covers of mags.. that is just so… weird.. but then if i were a magazine publisher why would i want a plastic-enhanced celebrity to be the cover of my magazine..

  13. 13 >_> February 24, 2008 at 1:04 am

That does not look nice….her back is slumped….posture isn’t so good…but i will look forward to the music!

  14. 14 giddy February 24, 2008 at 1:20 am

Are you sure that Korean magazines feature Western celebrities as their front cover? Because, every time I go to a Korean place in the states with Korean fashion mags, the front cover has always been an Asian woman.

And, seriously… there are a lot of naturally beautiful Korean girls. I seriously think that some people just see a pretty Asian girl and just assume she’s plastic just because she’s Asian and pretty.
Personally, I’ve had a lot of Asian friends who were very pretty from a very young age.

A lot of you people are really really critical. I highly doubt that most of the readers can even come close to looking like these Korean celebrities even WITH tons of plastic surgery.

  15. 15 Gaijin February 24, 2008 at 1:27 am

woo-hoo :-) Big hair and short skirt…. yum yum!

  16. 16 giddy February 24, 2008 at 1:31 am

one more thing. It’s really naive to think that Western celebrities are more natural than Koreans.

Seriously…American people don’t focus as much on whether celebrities have had surgery or not. Pull up old pics of Beyonce, Tyra Banks, Paris Hilton, Fergie, or even Angelina Jolie.. Almost all celebrities have changed things about their face. It’s because that is part of the business of being in show business and it’s so cheap and tempting for them. Duh.

  17. 17 ?! February 24, 2008 at 1:40 am

yeah i agree with the first comment… d

she needs to def. need help with the pose cuz she look like she has a hump back. not sexy.. but she’s pretty with nice legs

  18. 18 for real February 24, 2008 at 2:05 am

she’s looking good~~ she should model more often.

  19. 19 spin February 24, 2008 at 2:15 am

I love the way her hair is the biggest thing on her…. although I’m not entirely sold on the clothes she’s wearing (accentuates her skinniness, which I don’t think is particularly good or bad) and her bad posture reminds me a nicole miller campaign a few yrs ago….

my mom hated that ad campaign w/ the bad posture – she went on about how it made the (white) model’s face look huge, compared to her stick body.

  20. 20 Raye February 24, 2008 at 3:39 am

Beyonce and Tyra never had surgery I know because I already checked. Jolie had the tip of her nose done and Paris looked the same way she did when she was younger. Everybody knows americans celebrities get surgery but not to the point they are seriously made of plastic or you can tell they even got anything done.

BTW i love her posture its very “high fashion” The slumped back and everything… This is not suppose to be sexy.

  21. 21 DB February 24, 2008 at 3:45 am

I have yet to seen any foreign models on Korean magazines.

  22. 22 WillIRememberMe February 24, 2008 at 4:28 am

    Dumpling,

why are you assuming koreans aren’t respecting themselves just b/c they’ll have a western celebrity on the front? It just means they value other cultures highly as well. It has nothing to do with some kind of personal complex.

  23. 23 spin February 24, 2008 at 6:34 am

beyonce and jolie both had surgery on their noses.

But I’d also say, they’ve had the best jobs done out of hollywood….

  24. 24 Sakura February 24, 2008 at 8:40 am

Korea just won Ford Supermodel of The World…. Give them some credit!!!

And almost every girl in Hollywood have some sort of plastic surgery done to them, whether it’s the nose, the boobs, or the azzzzzz. And some of them just don’t want to age gracefully..

  25. 25 joyce February 24, 2008 at 9:08 am

yah.. i agree with everyone saying that a lot of people in hollywood has already something done..that kind of trend has already been happening since the era of marilyn monroe(she also had a lot of things done to her face by the way)

  26. 26 mIcHeLlE-LuVz-KaNgIn February 24, 2008 at 1:44 pm

She so does not look good in that magazine at all! She has to fix her pose.

  27. 27 selina February 24, 2008 at 3:30 pm

    I… I want to hate it, but I don’t.

  28. 28 nx512 February 24, 2008 at 3:32 pm

    she looks soo good!

  29. 29 hohoo February 25, 2008 at 12:15 am

Oh, it’s the smae magazine where Yamapi was… ^O_O^

  30. 30 Lorielle February 25, 2008 at 5:41 am

wow, she’s the only korean celeb i’ve seen on a magazine cover that’s actually CLOSE TO LOOKING LIKE A REAL MODEL. but still, those clothes are SO drab.

  31. 31 Meru February 25, 2008 at 11:47 am

Nice natural look and the big hair fits her. Anyway, what’s ‘westernized’ anymore, the modern culture is constantly changing and evolving, welcome to the age of globalization. It’s good exposure for her to be on any magazine covers really.

  32. 32 tenretni February 26, 2008 at 2:46 am

ohhh… looking forward to this… i love her song “adult ceremony”, i hope she will get to do a collab with gorilla man…

lol i saw a interview of JYP and he referred himself as “sexy gorilla”.. who in the world thinks he is sexy?? lol.. thats wrong

  33. 33 breezy February 26, 2008 at 2:49 am

fix that posture girl… its not sexy, nor cute… she doesn`t do that in 1 but 2 pictures…
