David Beckham in Seoul

20080227beckham1

David Beckham (LA Galaxy) is in Seoul as part of their worldwide tour to promote Beckman U.S. football.

With all eyes on Beckham, it seems that the rest of the LA Galaxy is conveniently missing. But, let’s be brutally honest, no one cares about ‘soccer’ in the U.S. - not even people in the U.S. It’s sad to see that they are trying to promote U.S. soccer to the rest of the world.

The press conference was held at Lotte Hotel. This is Beckham’s 2nd trip to Korea since the 2002 World Cup.

Check out his interview here.

  4. 4 clueless February 27, 2008 at 3:16 pm

I think I’m missing some kind of insider joke. Why do you call Beckham “Beckman”?

  5. 5 nikki February 27, 2008 at 3:20 pm

    It was a typo then.What a shame.

  9. 9 popseoul February 27, 2008 at 4:35 pm

  11. 11 APRIL February 27, 2008 at 4:54 pm

I live in the US and I LOVE SOCCER! and I am the only one who does. The only time I remember the US loving soccer was when the Women’s team one the Women’s World Cup.

the LA Galaxy was a joke before Beckham joined and is a more publicized joke now…but i would like to see the man in a Hanbok.

You guys should be paying attention to S.Korea’s team…they won the East Asian Football Championship 2008…those were good matches.

  12. 12 E February 27, 2008 at 5:15 pm

err since when was David Beckam part of the US? lol I don’t get why they have a British football player promoting it for the US?

  13. 13 chachacha February 27, 2008 at 5:21 pm

    LOL
I thought it was some inside joke or something ^o^

  14. 14 penguin_x3 February 27, 2008 at 5:27 pm

ehh..i don’t think he’s interesting, and i don’t think he’s that good looking anymore…he doesn’t age as well at george clooney or brad pitt

  15. 15 igoRAWR February 27, 2008 at 5:56 pm

    LOL
look at him doing the V sign like an asian XD

  16. 16 igoRAWR February 27, 2008 at 5:56 pm

  17. 17 aegyo February 27, 2008 at 6:07 pm

david beckham is darn hot! koreans must be glad to have him as their guest!

haha. what i didn’t like was him doing the korean pose (V-sign)! haha. it was funny!

  18. 18 Shar February 27, 2008 at 6:19 pm

The V sign is the peace sign here in America and everybody does it here! It’s not the Korean sign only!!!!!

  19. 19 its_trish February 27, 2008 at 6:24 pm

    Shar,
that may be so but it is obviously an Asian tribute in this case. I think it’s cute.. and the man is hot and always will be ^^

  20. 20 iDAREyou February 27, 2008 at 6:36 pm

i don’t see what’s so attractive about this guy… there’s A LOT of hotter footballers out there but why he’s getting all the attention?

  21. 21 >. February 27, 2008 at 7:04 pm

    Wel i gues…

    nothing. wahaha!

He looks fiery on that pic.
AS if it was looking @iDAREyou.. LOL

  22. 22 Dumpling February 27, 2008 at 7:19 pm

I can never understand why anyone is interested in Beckham. I understand that he’s famous wherever soccer (or football) is popular, but why do Americans care about this guy??

  23. 23 ruthhh February 27, 2008 at 8:01 pm

    Eh… what’s with Beckham?

    He looks… shrivelled.

  24. 24 orange February 27, 2008 at 8:41 pm

yeah… he looks fiery on that pic..

I wonder what he’s up to.. hahaha!

  25. 25 Hyun Ae February 27, 2008 at 9:35 pm

i also live in the US and pretty much obsessed with sports especially soccer. there aren’t a lot of people in the entire US that love soccer but almost every single person at my school is on a soccer team like the Gladiators or Arsenal. I don’t really pay attention to soccer teams in the US but I do love South Korea’s soccer team since I’m part korean and I love my country.

“beckman hahaha man that guy is mighty hot. you’d be surprised how popular it “soccer” gets here in the US during World Cup. well…for california atleast :)”

I dont think he’s hot, but everyone else does and I think the popularity index will increase because of it.

  27. 27 soccerlova February 27, 2008 at 10:11 pm

    geez…what a hottie !!! *melts*
i think that he does age well for a husband with 3 little boys !!
well, tho he’s not American but he’s the only player in America who has a worldwide reputation. I bet not everyone would know if it was Donovan or someone else. Just look at it from media’s point of view.

I honestly don’t think there’s other guy can compare with Beckham. My support will always go for you, Becks!!

    Keep kickin’ !!!!!!!!

  28. 28 Blahblahbon February 27, 2008 at 10:14 pm

Wtf? Americans don’t know sh*t about football. They think that since they have Beckham now they’re undefeatable. Uhhh.. David Beckham is overrated, granted he WAS a good player, but his time has past. There’s no way in HELL America would ever win anything related to football, especially against European teams, with or without Beckham. I’m Spanish and I lived in England, football’s in my blood, I think I know what I’m talking about. Americans + FOOTBALL = Failure. Sorry but it’s true, they play sports liks American football and wrestling instead.. You know, games where the men roll around with each other. Beckham stands no chance on an American team, too bad he got kicked out of the England team, lmao. “Oh I missed the shot because of the f*cking grass” No Beckham you missed it because you suck, and can no longer play football.

  29. 29 spin February 27, 2008 at 10:40 pm

Soccer moms! American ’soccer moms’ love soccer!

  30. 30 WoonRyeo February 27, 2008 at 11:00 pm

Agree that Beckham is overrated. He’s over his peak now and non of the european teams want him anymore. People outside of europe (esp. asia) are crazy about him but over here it’s like “Beckham? Whatever…”.

Blahblahbon: LOL so remember when he missed that penalty and he blamed the grass on the penalty spot.

  31. 31 hahaha February 27, 2008 at 11:04 pm

I think men with waxed eye brows look weird.

  32. 32 --- February 27, 2008 at 11:41 pm

did you know that THAT “US FOOTBALL PROMOTION” was also offered to other country/ies last year (or even the year before that) but the other country/ies didn’t exactly want to shed some $$$ to pay Beckham and company for just appearing and coordinating with the local players…?

  33. 33 fraulein February 27, 2008 at 11:51 pm

His skin is not looking good

    Becks is not ageing well….

  34. 34 fraulein February 27, 2008 at 11:54 pm

as a man utd fan, I think he “lost it” when he lost man utd

    Park Ji-sung rules!!!! ; )

  35. 35 fraulein February 27, 2008 at 11:55 pm

    I meant left man utd

  36. 36 fraulein February 27, 2008 at 11:55 pm

I meant when he left man utd

  37. 37 Blahblahbon February 28, 2008 at 12:22 am

WoonRyeo - That was the most pathetic thing I have ever seen. I’m so glad he’s not on the England football team anymore, I love that team and I hate him. So it works out, lmao. I still to this day can’t believe he blamed the grass, What a friggin’ loser.
    Eurocup this summer. WHOOP!!

  38. 38 lavenderblue February 28, 2008 at 12:27 am

he’s an athlete, not a model, y’all! i say he’s pretty damn good looking for an athlete…erm…his arch is better than a lot of women’s which i find kinda freaky but i say that’s his wife’s doing ^__^

  39. 39 Raye February 28, 2008 at 12:55 am

who cares about soccer? football is better. i thought it was so funny when they thought this lame-ass man and his lame-ass wife was going to make soccer famous here. It was going to take alot more than that to make that dull sport intersting.

Anyway she use to be hott but he is getting old.

  40. 40 Raye February 28, 2008 at 12:56 am

    lol i mean “he” lmao

  41. 41 Lily February 28, 2008 at 1:15 am

why are they trying to promote US football? Americans don’t care to football. Forget this sport, you have others to be in top. Let Brazil always be first!

  42. 42 coconut February 28, 2008 at 1:30 am

The question shouldn’t be “why is he trying to promote US football?” but rather, why is he trying to promote it in SEOUL??

What about right here in, oh I don’t know…. the United States!
    Where it’s NOT popular!?
    Wouldn’t that make more sense??

I happen to live in the U.S and I think soccer is really the only sport worth watching!

By the way no one even cared when they were playing for the World Cup.

    Such a shame for America!

  43. 43 Blahblahbon February 28, 2008 at 1:39 am

Seriously Raye? Oh yeah, American football is such a manly and great sport. Drop the ball, throw it, drop it, throw it, jump on man and roll around in the dirt, WOW amazing.
REAL football is about running around for 45 minutes straight, a test of your endurance. And it’s called FOOTball because you kick the ball with your feet. Soccer is a dumb name for it, and American foot ball should be called fruitball. Way to be totally clueless.

  44. 44 marmalade February 28, 2008 at 1:49 am

It’s because football games are too long for the impatient Americans to watch. There’s little body contact like in American football aka men tumbling about, acting tough, and it takes too long to score. I don’t mind Beckham in the US too much, it’s a little more football exposure to the Americans than in the past. I don’t know why some people are set against it. Americans are ignorant about football but they don’t have to be like that forever. It’s only football fans who got a stick stuck up in their arse about it all.

  45. 45 christine February 28, 2008 at 1:55 am

Funny, I just saw his wife Victoria yesterday at Holt & Renfrew. She seemed very nice.

The only time the US is interested in soccer is when the Women’s Team is playing.

  46. 46 Lana February 28, 2008 at 2:53 am

First of all, Beckham is HAWT!

Second of all, it is weird that he’s ‘promoting’ football, because the US don’t care about it here, but it’s the #1 sport everywhere else, so it’s like, ummmm….what are you promoting again? He NEEDS to promote it in the States so people will gain an interest in it!

Lastly, no, we don’t think that we’re unbeatable because we have Beckham. You know why? Because a LARGE majority of Americans DON’T CARE ABOUT SOCCER!
If you’re not talking about American football or baseball or basketball, then we just really don’t give a rat’s butthole about it. Sad to say, but soccer isn’t looked at as a real sport, here. It’s at the bottom on the totem pole of sports.

Oh and it would be ’such a shame’ that we are so ‘ignorant’ about football….if we cared…LOL!

    Boohoo.

  47. 47 tazz February 28, 2008 at 3:12 am

the only think i like about him is his squeaky voice

    Such manly face…such girly voice
    it cracks me up XD

  48. 48 Raye February 28, 2008 at 4:50 am

Blahblahbon, but kicking a ball back and forth is soo cool? yeahh… ok.

soccer is gay just like the men who plays it.

  49. 49 BKJSuh February 28, 2008 at 5:13 am

He came to ri ght place.

  50. 50 Meru February 28, 2008 at 5:16 am

Soccer is a popular sport in the rest of the world except in the US, the land of Nascar and American football. Oh yea, so much gayer than men in tights wrestling each other for pig skin.

Beckham is popular because together with his wife, they’re the “power-couple” in Hollywood. I guess there was a period where he was good at soccer, but whatever, he’s making more money than ever in the US.

  51. 51 soohyun February 28, 2008 at 5:43 am

no one cares about soccer in the US. everyone in the US only cares about football. right??
anyways, i find it rather odd to see him in seoul. But soccer is VERY POPULAR in korea
    so maybe thats why??
well im not a beckham fan so… yeaaa..
    lol

  52. 52 marmar February 28, 2008 at 8:34 am

shoot i’ll be honest i don’t care much for “football” as well. The only “football” i care for it NFL football. other than that I’ll pass.

  53. 53 okeydoke February 28, 2008 at 9:05 am

    yum.
    he is one sweeet candy.

  54. 54 seoulfood February 28, 2008 at 9:08 am

Blahblahbon- American football should be called fruitball??? wtf. That was lame. This years Super Bowl was watched by almost 98 Million people and was very exciting. I have nothing against soccer but the reason the rest of the world loves soccer so much cause most of them are third world countries and soccer is a cheap (meaning you don’t need to much funds) sport to play.

  55. 55 marmalade February 28, 2008 at 9:50 am

“but the reason the rest of the world loves soccer so much cause most of them are third world countries and soccer is a cheap (meaning you don’t need to much funds) sport to play”

If that is true, England, Japan and the rest of the world that aren’t third countries should be lovin American football by now. You can play flag football or just play catch with the ball without all the funding you’re talking about either. I really doubt money is the reason. I have nothing against American football either, but it revolves around commercialism and excessive money spending, and sadly, all of that is a part of the American culture. Most Americans have the mentality that if it’s not part of my culture, I don’t care about it.

  57. 57 PROMOTE KOREAN FOOD February 28, 2008 at 2:21 pm

i hope david beckham teaches koreans how to use a garage can. koreans litter too much. koreans need to promote their food.

  58. 58 seoulfood February 28, 2008 at 2:37 pm

    marmalade-
I see your point but seriously comparing flag football to football. ???
I was just saying it is more cost effective to play (the rest of the world) football than American Football.

Last year pre season exhibition game was held in London and it was sold out. yes I do know that there were Americans at that game.

Yes, yes everyone hates America and Americans.

  59. 59 pikachu February 28, 2008 at 7:39 pm

beckham looks unhappy. if he could only smile, he’d be more gorgeous and handsome.

  60. 60 marmalade February 29, 2008 at 2:21 am

I thought you meant that people can play it on the streets for fun, therefore, it’s widely popular. The comparison to flag football was to illustrate that American football can also be played as a past time. So if you’re only talking about playing the sport in as a profession, I doubt there’s a big difference in the amount of necessary funding. You know, sans the big screen board, fireworks and the half-time circus show.

I would give you this, football has a long standing history all over the world, whereas American football was just invented (based on rugby) in the 19th century. That’s part of the reason American football is only popular in the US, and perhaps, why it’s recognized in London.

Lastly, the rest of the world doesn’t hate America and all Americans, don’t give yourselves that much credit, they just think some of their attitude stinks.

  61. 61 Lily February 29, 2008 at 2:27 am

    ^ No, everybody hates America

  62. 62 Dovey February 29, 2008 at 8:45 am

Hmmm, I can count as one of the people who don’t care about soccer in the U.S.
