JYP’s Concert was no different from his press conference a week ago. The dancing gorilla hogged the stage, marginalizing stage time for his products including Min, G-Soul, J Lim and the Wondergirls.
In fact, these four weren’t granted any special effects for their performances. Min had only two back dancers, G-Soul the Boys Choir of Harlem, J Lim a malfunctioning keyboard and Wondergirls the “Tell Me”.
Watching JYP hogging the spotlight made me realize that the gorilla’s dream is not to make this tour into an Asian music festival but to become the main engine of tour – forever.
Young-ins, ajummas, G-mas & G-pas, obsessive teen girls, & 18/55 year old horny boys/men filled the WaMu Theatre as the clock struck 8:00. The sounds of screaming and the flashes of camera lights flew through the air as the lights dimmed and the name JYP shined boldly on the stage. NYC’s Hot 97’s gossip queen, Miss Info came out with her bad self and raised the roof for Asian Americans. A couple of “Hell yeahs & WoooHoos” were shouted, Miss Info peaced out and darkness scattered through the room.

The little man with the big voice, G-soul, walked on stage with a full out black choir. He and a fellow choir member belted out to the most played out song in music history, “I Believe I Can Fly,” originally sang by his mentor, R. Kelly. The small dude rocked a sparkly leather jacket while making a constipated facial expression every time he hit a hard note. In terms of physical appearance, he is no one to make you look twice but his voice has got some serious soul, and I found myself actually intrigued. As long as R. Kelly stays away from Min and the Wonder Girls, I think G-Soul might have a decent chance in making some fine music with the pedophile R&B legend.

The Alicia Keys of Korea, Lim Jung Hee is pretty, thin, and talented. As boring as it sounds, the only negative thing I can say about the gal is that her eye make up sucked. She’s got some serious vocals and if she works on her English more she can give BoA a run for her money when they both debut in the Land of the Free.

The Wonder Robots Girls ran onto the stage in their tacky polyester outfits and performed the same ole’ k-poppy routine. Little girls cried, boys ripped their shirts off and the Wonder Girls smiled & giggled.

And now, the highlight of the show had to go to none other than the dancing gorilla himself, Mr. JYP. The Asian Soul raised up from the ground in a rhinestoned jacket with red pants matched with black high boots. He descended down the stairs with his eyebrows arched and chin high – he thought he was the shiznat.
The only phrase that summarizes his performance is “sexually tacky.” His dancers were in skimpy lingerie most of the time, and a lot of pelvic thrusting and R Rated moves were made. During the time I blocked out JYP’s arrogant rants and subtle sexual innuendos, I realized someone needs to take his bragging rights away and put him in time out.
Overall, the concert was just average, the crowd was somewhat enthusiastic and JYP was stuck-up as usual. JYP Entertainment can hold as many little tours as they want, but we want to actually see if all this hype of Asians breaking out in the American music industry can actually happen. I’m skeptical, but my fingers are crossed.

Im definitely rooting for JLim. Min and G-Soul are ehh to me.
i like the wonder girls
well i guess some people dont like them that much xD
Min’s cyworld: http://www.cyworld.com/Diamond_is_cool
I agree…JYP was quite the stage hog but I give the man credit for his superb dancing and not-so-out-of-pitch singing as he had said that he was recovering from a cold..kudos! And I swear the Wondergirls received more hoots and hollers when they came on stage, am I right? Or was that just my ears going deaf from the little girls who were screaming right next to me?
I really liked G-Soul cause he did have that soulful-ness in his singing and I fell in love with that Boy’s Choir….I honestly love any kind of choir so that might have added to my knees going weak~
Aww, darn, I wish I saw you guys there…I would’ve given you a big handshake and appreciation for all the hard work you put into this site!
Well, it kind of WAS JYP’s concert.
omg ahahahahaha lol wish i was there review aboout WG, HILARIOUS!
LOL at the dancing gorilla comments!
Does JYP really expect to make it into the American market with these type of antics? Not only is he ruining the futures of his young stars, he makes himself look like a fool.
JYP is just gross. He has truckolads of money, but he still looks greasy. It’s called soap; I’m sure you can afford some. UGH!
I’m sorry. But anyone who said that Min was good must be outta their frickin minds. If her opening set of two songs were to showcase her dancing ability versus her singing prowess then, yes it might have been somewhat decent. Whether it be poor choice of song or nervousness, neither of her songs showcased her vocal ability. And she was damn near outta breath from dancing to even sing well.
G-soul on the other hand did just a smidgen better than Min. But still nothing to rave about.
The hype for both stars surpassed their actual abilities. Nervous or not, I was pretty bored. Heck, the girl from the choir could’ve smoked G-Soul on I Believe I Can Fly. if she solo-ed.
J.Lim did her thing, great voice. Did not disappoint.
JYP? The man that all the ahjummas and ahjushis came out for. Heard all the songs I wanted to hear and then some. Though his rendition of Tell Me was kinda freaky. I won’t even comment on the poor female fan. Went on for a good 2 hours on his own. Whether he is cocky or not, it’s nice to see more asians attempting to break into the market.
Min’s Myspace page is disgusting. The way she is behaving in some of those photos is embarrassing. Also, I bet she’ll be having sex with black men before you know it, if she hasn’t already. It’s not like men in the rap and hiphop world are known for their respect for women, and as reflected in their music and videos and lifestyle they don’t know any other way to relate to females except as sexual objects. Her parents should be proud–she’s in GREAT company. Based on her photos and her little “introduction” (she’s “down for any and every thing”) she is a vapid little girl who doesn’t care about anything but partying. Partying equals sex, booze and drugs in the world that she’s in–unfortunately. She’ll be ruined by the time she’s 20–personally and professionally.
LOL where she says she’s attending a “performing arts school”. We all know that’s not true.
@ Dumpling

so true .
@ mindy
LOL @ JYP trying to pass his *NON* singing ability off due to a “cold” LMAO! That’s priceless! So he must have had a cold his entire career, huh? lol
JYP thinks he’s still THE MAN. whatever. ugh!
JYP should hang up performing and just producing and promoting other, newer, and younger talents. I suspect that he actually embarrasees WG and other members of his “JYP family”…
The JYP Entertainment concert was not covered by Variety or the New York Times. If JYP’s plan was to come to the U.S. and break into the American music scene, he failed. No one noticed. Just by announcing you are going to New York, doesn’t mean anything. He did not allow his performers to use their talents because he hogged the stage.
