Will May Doni surpass Se7en?

Maydoni_20080228_popseoul

May Doni is dubbed the “female Se7en” but that’s an under-statement. Her voice is better than Se7en’s and she has his moves down to the beat - she just needs a new stylist to surpass the MIA singer.

I have my bets on May Doni but what do you think?

May Doni dancing to Se7en’s “Passion”

Will May Doni surpass Se7en?
1) Of course - she’s the next Se7en

2) Never - no one will outdo Se7en

3) Maybe - let’s wait and see

4) I don’t care

she does hav sum talent, too bad shes no long with YG or JYP anymore cuz im sure those 2 will do better promotions then what she has rite now.

  2. 2 min. March 8, 2008 at 9:14 pm

i rmb being in awe over her voice. this might sound offending, but does anyone else think that her body is a little disproportionate? i know she’s petite. but it still looks a little funny. might be the tracksuit.

  3. 3 Fireee March 8, 2008 at 9:52 pm

I think her dancing looks kind of strange too.
Is it weird if I say it looks like a primary-schooler dancing?

  4. 4 Bi March 8, 2008 at 9:52 pm

I agree w/ min. How tall is she?

  5. 5 anonymous March 8, 2008 at 10:35 pm

i tot her dance was messy and a bit rushed. but it’s ok, i guess.. her voice’s really pretty, i’ll definitely be keeping track of her.

  6. 6 Mics March 8, 2008 at 10:38 pm

I think Sohee of WG should take singing lessons from May Doni —- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r9t7Sk9S9Y

  7. 7 himika March 8, 2008 at 10:45 pm

she is talented, but from what i see in the video, she fell out of balance a few times. o_0

  8. 8 for real March 8, 2008 at 10:55 pm

she’s gooood~~ definitely talented more so than seven when it comes to singing.

  9. 9 Dumpling March 8, 2008 at 11:28 pm

It was so thoughtful of Popseoul to put an “I don’t care” option. That’s exactly where I cast my vote. No, I’m serious. Most people create these voting things and never give an option for disinterested people. We should be allowed to vote, too. :)

  10. 10 Tinybubbles March 8, 2008 at 11:29 pm

The girl can dance, but she’s not that good.

  11. 11 Dumpling March 8, 2008 at 11:35 pm

I tolerated 20 seconds of the atrocious video and I have a few comments:

    1) What is she doing that Britney Spears and all the rest hasn’t already done…and wearing the same pink tracksuit, too?

    2) How can ANYONE say her moves are awesome after watching that video? Her “moves” alternate between robotically rehearsed (i.e. no natural talent) and just plain awkward (doesn’t have a clear idea how to dance without having to practice every step numerous times–again, no natural talent).

    3) In response to the previous commenter: I don’t think her body is out of proportion, I think her head is a little bit large for her body, and she *is* petite. It’s the size of her head on her tiny body that’s doing it. I don’t have a problem with her looks. I just think she’s yet another hack job who is being pimped out to the States, where no one is going to care.

  12. 12 Blahblahbon March 9, 2008 at 12:00 am

Dumpling, she kicked ass. Her dancing is far from robotic. True she doesn’t exactly have much more to offer to the states, but neither did Min and check it out. Either way, she can dance and she is that good. I’d love to see you guys dance like that, that’s hard to do and takes a lot of practice. Stop hating on her for no reason, you’re turning into popseoul. Nothing to say so you bash her for being good.

Her dancing rocks, she kicks Se7ens ass, but I am biased for I hate Se7en. She’s really good, but I agree with Dumpling, she probably won’t make it in the US since her dancing isn’t anything new and refreshing. She should stick to S.K.

  13. 13 Kosaru March 9, 2008 at 12:04 am

I like her tomboy/normal girl look better than that glamour shot on top, it’d be more appropriate for the music style too. Not every pop female needs to be sexy/feminine. And I think she’s really really young

  14. 14 Misty March 9, 2008 at 12:12 am

This makes me wonder if you’ve ever seen SE7EN dance. What’s with the funky spazzing she’s doing in the middle of the dance?

  15. 15 BKJSuh March 9, 2008 at 12:13 am

Its meh. Se7en isn’t greatest dancer either nor is Rain.

  16. 16 DotDotDot March 9, 2008 at 12:31 am

She’s alright…not extraordinary nor impressive. The only good thing is she looks like she’s really passionate about the dancing rather than looking very nervous and stiff. It’s weird to see her in those glamour shots. She resembles too much like a child…plus with her petiteness, it’s even more freaky. She’s a baby, don’t dress her up like that! Heheh I know someone who can dance those steps and even better…A real “soul-sista” who can really move her hips. So this child, May Doni, is probably better than average female Korean performer (when it comes to dancing), but I’m not wowed.

  17. 17 Samira March 9, 2008 at 12:36 am

    Her first performance
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7e56MhfVPf0

Her singing is very good and her dance moves are incredible. And she REALLY needs a new stylist.

She’s no longer in YG because they wanted to promote the boys for now and she wouldn’t debut soon like they promised. Or something like that…it’s a pity, because I think she would get not only a better promotion but also a better stylist if she was in YG lol

  18. 18 mystiq March 9, 2008 at 12:48 am

Seems too wannabe-ish… She dances rather jerkily, and I’ve girls in my school that can dance way better too, and went all the way to the nationals.

And even as a female, Hyori’s hot! There’s nothing compelling (as a female) to make me wanna compare her to Se7en, or to see her as THE next big thing.

  19. 19 Mert March 9, 2008 at 12:56 am

What a beauty! and she can dance too! <3

  20. 20 rei212 March 9, 2008 at 1:20 am

Her dancing is alright. Like ppl have mentioned before me, she’s got talent, but nothing spectacular about it. But she’s young, and to be at that level at her age, she can only get better.. so let’s just wait and see.

Her voice still wows me though!!

  21. 21 Kiki March 9, 2008 at 1:27 am

Anybody can dance if they just practice hard
and I think she got some talent, and she’s young I hope that she’ll go all the way, but I don’t think she’ll be as big a BoA

  22. 22 kylie March 9, 2008 at 1:28 am

Her singing amazing!!! She can definitly compete in the states with her powerful voice. However, dacing is not her strong point. Why does she have to dance anyway? She can become successful just by singing! Here she is siging a kelly clarkson song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij5Z3QdJdoI&feature=related

ALSO! (This is only if she can’t already speak enlish) She has ZERO accent when she sings. By watching the video, you would think she was an asian american singing ^_^

As for her looks, she’s not ugly. Who cares if she is a little disproportionate? Her head may be a little big, but she’s not a hog head! She’s pretty enough…

  23. 23 Lanna March 9, 2008 at 1:36 am

She looks like she got talent but c’mon to compare her to Se7en?! At least compare her to another female artist. Her “interpretation” of his dance was just aiiite.

  24. 24 ohnoesyo* March 9, 2008 at 1:46 am

I wish she was still in YG. Her singing is awesome and her dancing is good but I cant compare her to Se7en uh uh no way.
Her voice is a bit better than his but his dancing imo pwns her dancing

  25. 25 Sarai March 9, 2008 at 1:51 am

I like her, but it makes me sad she isn’t in YG anymore. :/ YG’s not the greatest at promoting his female artists; true. But if she was with YG, she would be much more appealing. I don’t know.

  26. 26 resabambino March 9, 2008 at 1:53 am

I must have miss something in the video because I don’t see how she could really dance. Her moves seems to be everywhere not really popping out the moves. I don’t think she can really surpass Se7en with those moves. Sorry

  27. 27 rainy March 9, 2008 at 2:20 am

I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY DO POPSEOUL COMPARE HER TO SE7EN ??
    THERE IS ZERO CONNECTION .

  28. 28 KyungMin March 9, 2008 at 2:30 am

    To Rainy:

I don’t think it was PopSeoul who started the Se7en comparison. Alot of netizens consider her the female Se7en, or even more recently, the female Wheesung.

About her dance, I didn’t find it that great. Honestly, everyone in the Korean entertainment world can dance to a certain extent, especially if you were trained at JYP, SM, or YG in her case. She’s just another one of them. Now, her singing on the other hand is beyond talented and she should focus more on her singing in my opinion.

PS: Does anyone know if she lipsynched her debut performance? It was so perfect vocally and I just can’t help but wonder.

  29. 29 Dumpling March 9, 2008 at 2:33 am

She sounds like a thousand other singers of this same style. When are Koreans going to figure this out? They are not doing anything new to present in the States! Bring something new. Maybe in Korea all this crap is cool but in the States we have soooooooo been there, done that. It’s not these performers are BAD. It’s that there’s nothing NEW.

  30. 30 Dumpling March 9, 2008 at 2:35 am

“but neither did Min and check it out.”

Uh, we HAVE checked out Min. She’s a disaster waiting to happen.

  31. 31 soohyun March 9, 2008 at 2:36 am

i honestly never head of her before…
i dont think she will be that successful… uhhh just probably going to be known as another female artist…
she has an ok voice. ive heard better.
the image that she is trying to get… sorry but she wont get it.
her hair in that pic is… ?? sorry speechless.
i just dont think this is the “real” her. you know??!?
ive seen the video when she sings that kelly clarkson song, and she looks very cute and pretty.
but that pic that you posted popseoul, is not her.
i think she needs to clean up a bit.
    this is my opinion.

  32. 32 Sarai March 9, 2008 at 2:48 am

    Kyungmin: She sang it live.

  33. 33 iheartjoongie March 9, 2008 at 2:50 am

She is talented, that’s for sure. I just hope they launch her with a different image than all the other female artists out there. I think that they should just forget about trying to make her look like a poser and just let her get out there as her talented self. That picture of her looks so cheap. Seriously, who needs another bimbo out in the music biz. I think they should learn a bit from SM and how he marketed BoA. I like how they didn’t rush her maturity and used the innocence that comes with young age to their advantage. Cute with talent definitely pulls in the crowd. Dye her hair back to black/dark brown and wipe off three layers of make-up from her face. Keep the outfits from being too outrageous and just showcase her talent and nothing else.

Here’s to hoping for the success of a truly talented person. We’ve seen too many flops due to image.

  34. 34 BBlover March 9, 2008 at 3:19 am

    NO she can’t beat Se7en..come on..she seem a bit way off..of beating se7en..

  35. 35 jaenie March 9, 2008 at 3:21 am

ummm…she’s good..but se7en is A LOT smoother in his moves than she is. she’s too rigid…makes it look a bit weird.
    but she’s good.
i love her voice too…but not in the PDIS album. i dunno…i like her R&B/soul voice better than her voice now. she should’ve stuck it out with YG!

  36. 36 Evercool March 9, 2008 at 3:48 am

How can you compare her to Se7en they are nothing alike. But you can compare her to Min. And from her live performance. I’m going to say she is waay better then Min.

  37. 37 Brina March 9, 2008 at 3:55 am

She even looks like Se7en…body and all.

  38. 38 Annie March 9, 2008 at 3:57 am

She looks like a little 12 year old… And I agree with the comment about her head being too big for her body.. But regardless, she’s a talented singer. Her dancing is OK I suppose, but she’s definitely no where near Se7en’s level.

  39. 39 smile March 9, 2008 at 4:01 am

she’s got the voice and dance skills, though this may not be the best display of her dancing. if your really want to see her real dance skills check out her MV with Cho PD. she’s just plain amazing. hard to find a singer like her who can dance and sing. you might even compare her with BoA (except they have different dance styles) because Maydoni really is just that good.

  40. 40 seri March 9, 2008 at 4:03 am

i agree she has a talent in singing. As for her dancing, she is no way near Se7en. Yeah, companies do make sure that their talents know how to dance, but naturally, some stand out more than others. Se7en, no matter what he dances, popping, robotic, popish, is smooth and coordinated. He even makes up his own choregraphy. But i do agree she’s really talented in singing, so i see why it’s compared to Se7en in tht sense. Maybe with time, she’ll become even better but i’d perfer is she’d lose the image she has now. because she wont make it far, with WG and GG, and all the other stars with that type of image. i do wish she stayed with YG tho.

  41. 41 janepak March 9, 2008 at 4:26 am

she definitely has a better voice than se7en, but the dancing has to go to se7en.

  42. 42 blake March 9, 2008 at 4:40 am

did i just hear popseoul say something positive about a korean celebrity? wow… that’s the sound of the universe shifting…

  43. 43 Tony March 9, 2008 at 4:45 am

she is good, but i still prefer JoA. i think her moves are better in that “Tell Me” clip…but it’s a close call…with more training i think May Doni can catch up very soon

  44. 44 Zee March 9, 2008 at 4:48 am

    i’ve seen better dancing.

  45. 45 sf March 9, 2008 at 4:53 am

huh. She’s note bad… but she doesn’t have the charimsa and the smile on her face that Seven always has that makes him look he loves every moment of the dance.

Also, the moves where her hand is grabbing? her crotch area disturbs me. If this was supposed to be an ‘interpretation’ of his dance, she could’ve just left that part out. Looked really weird from a tiny little girl.

Her voice is quite good though…no denying that. She needs a new stylist.

  46. 46 christina March 9, 2008 at 5:06 am

there’s no doubt she has a lot of talent. but she doesn’t have as much charisma as the other artists. like she’s good, but there’s nothing that’s really grabbing my attention or makes me want to find out more about her.

her singing is amazing though, and her dancing is pretty good too. umm except for the whole crotch grabbing thing.

I think she has a moderate shot at success.

oh and the whole comparison thing about se7en? right now, i don’t think she’s really even close to where se7en is. But we’ll have to see what she does in the future!

  47. 47 christina March 9, 2008 at 5:07 am

oh and actually, her MV looks pertty good. but her live could be improved…

  48. 48 wink0o0 March 9, 2008 at 5:07 am

her dancing is not better than se7en..on the other hand she got some vocal…

  49. 49 christina March 9, 2008 at 5:07 am

    like her stage presence.

haha whoops i posted 3 times in a row.

  50. 50 xolove March 9, 2008 at 5:33 am

you must be joking right popseoul? shes a good dancer, but you cant compare her to se7en who is just fanatical. her dance moves dont have any intensity or “passion” behind them. it’s a bit sloppy and the movements are not clean cut. let’s face it, shes good, but not that great. there are plenty of dancers better than her (one of them being boa). se7en’s dances are fresh, energetic, and charismatic (spelling? haha). Hers is kind of plain and boring -like the seen it before feeling.

  51. 51 DT March 9, 2008 at 5:34 am

Like everyone said, her voice might be stronger than se7en’s…but her dancing is no where close. Her passion dance looks so awkward for some reason.

  52. 52 DieuAn March 9, 2008 at 5:41 am

“Oh sure she can dance” NOT!
    All I see is a “do-the-steps” dance,
some guy teach her, and she do just that,
and that is also just some easy steps
anybody would be able to do if they just
tried to. It’s just *learn-and-do* steps.
It doesn’t seems like she really feel the
    beats.

And about her voice, yes she have a great
voice, it’s strong and she know how to use
    it too, unlike some *other*…
But is it really like *shocking-good*?
No, and also, very many other artists
have as good voice or even better.

    And then about her look,
she looks and dress like some cheap type
you can find on the street.

  53. 53 swtgrllubzyooh March 9, 2008 at 6:16 am

    Dear POPSEOUL!,

If you wanted to show us viewers that May Doniis better than Se7en, then you should have shown us another video.
When I watched her dancing to “Passion,” I thought that it looked kind of awkward. She looked like she wasn’t into it. I think that she need to show more PASSION in her dancing.
I think that she will make it in the MUSIC business.
Do you see her video with Cho DP? Well the PDiS Project that she was doing. Well, if you didn’t, here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/v/VjBJT5Maiqc
I think that if you wanted to show us her dancing, you should have shown this video. She LOOKED like her was into dancing. Her voice was good. I liked the song. I don’t think that she will better than Se7en. I think that she would be good as Se7en, but not yet. I think that we just have to wait and see her OFFICIAL SOLO debut and her many years to come in her the music industry.

    Love,
    Swtgrllubzyooh

  54. 54 linh March 9, 2008 at 6:28 am

i am not trying to be mean but i love her voice i think she can probably sing better se7en …. but i don’t know about the dancing i have seen her performance live and this practice but maybe like you said popseoul its just the outfit but it just look a little weird when she dances…looks disportional…. but then again (ithink i am going to technical here but)May doni and se7en ….if you leave it up to the fans than maybe se7en will win…come one people which do you see more of fanGIRLS screaming for their OPPAS… or fanBOYS screaming for their NUNAS???

  55. 55 Tiffany March 9, 2008 at 6:36 am

Although she was born with talent, she still has the potential to grow. It is hard to say whether she will surpass Se7en because it will be unfair to judge her when she is being compared to someone who is older and has been in the music industry a lot longer. As a result, we will just have to wait and see how she does when she debuts. She hasn’t even come out with an album yet, so it is too early to say anything.

In terms of fan base, male celebrities always have more fans in comparison to female artists (not to mention the crazy fan girls who will pretty much throw away their own lives for someone they don’t even know). As a result, surpassing Se7en might be a bit hard since he’s one of the most popular Korean male artists around. Either way, I hope May Doni will keep on doing what she’s doing because there will always be others out there who won’t compare her to others. People who like her (like me), will respect her by not comparing her to others in order to create headlines about her.

In the end, it’s all about different preferences, so either you hate her, or love her (or think she’s alright).

  56. 56 loving se7en forever March 9, 2008 at 6:45 am

    hahaha..
    i hope she becomes a..
    ONE HIT WONDER….———> wannabe >_<
    hahaha….

  57. 57 Mithel March 9, 2008 at 6:55 am

Her voice screeches a lot during lives. She has a strong voice, but I think she’s pushing vocals too far - she’s going to strain her voice pretty soon.

Example: May Doni singing Kelly Clarkson’s “Walk Away”:
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=E1HPGrY4HJw

As for dancing, it’s just average.

  58. 58 irees March 9, 2008 at 7:00 am

hey, popseoul, she just had her “debut” performance on music bank yesterday. it’s on youtube now. she’s good. yg lost some talent on this one because they were focusing more on the boys rather than the girls.

  59. 59 jrizzle March 9, 2008 at 7:36 am

uhh how does this support the argument that she surpasses se7en in dancing?

  60. 60 Meru March 9, 2008 at 7:38 am

She does not have his moves down to the beat in this video, like many have pointed out already. It was sloppy, and she come off as stiff when she tries to pop and lock, if you can call that locking. She can mimic his moves, but she’s got a lot more to learn. I think she has a different vocal style than Se7en, granted he’s not the best singer, so I think she have a stronger vocal. But all other department pales in comparison, charisma wise, she looks like a 14 yr old trying to look copy Kelly Clarkson, drink more milk girlie.

  61. 61 christine March 9, 2008 at 7:39 am

okay, when you watch her youtube performance…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7e56MhfVPf0

… i couldn’t help but crack up at 2:30-2:50. I mean.. WTF are those dance moves???? hahahaha

  62. 62 kate March 9, 2008 at 7:44 am

She growls a lot… kinda like Charice :\

Leave the big voices to those who can handle them.

  63. 63 Yun March 9, 2008 at 7:47 am
  64. 64 kate March 9, 2008 at 7:48 am

She may have a stronger voice, but I don’t think she’s that versatile in style.

  65. 65 cutie_honey March 9, 2008 at 8:02 am

she has a powerful dance and voice but when i look at her closely she seems like a little angry kid to me @_@
and i agree with everyone about her head being a litte too big for her body,, i think she should have another hair-cut maybe it could help ;)

  66. 66 Ang March 9, 2008 at 8:24 am

She have to change the looks like, but she can dance

  67. 67 charitee March 9, 2008 at 8:47 am

in the video you guys posted, may doni isn’t really dancing all too well. i felt like her dancing was mediocre. however, in the mv of her collaboration with jo pd, her dancing was a hell of a lot better. i haven’t seen her performance yet, but i’m pretty sure it’ll be awesome.

i don’t know if she’ll be able to surpass se7en just because i don’t think they’re on the same level yet [in terms of dancing; she kills se7en at singing].

  68. 68 Jake March 9, 2008 at 8:59 am

If anything, she’s better than Boa.

Female vs. Male counterparts don’t really work.

  69. 69 n/a March 9, 2008 at 9:11 am

Dumpling, (this is what you wrote)

“It was so thoughtful of Popseoul to put an “I don’t care” option. That’s exactly where I cast my vote. No, I’m serious. Most people create these voting things and never give an option for disinterested people. We should be allowed to vote, too. ”

well, if you dont care, then why are you even here? ==

  70. 70 miyaki March 9, 2008 at 9:30 am

i just hate it when newbies compare themselves to current singers like when dambi debuted, she’s the female rain… and there was the new lee hyori… etc…

btw, she didn’t do the handstand that se7en’s famous for and she did this really weird pose (like a ‘pink’ flamingo) instead and she even lost balance when she did that.

  71. 71 SS March 9, 2008 at 9:36 am

has anyone even watched her videos??? she really does have the talent to make it in the showbiz…her debut performance was good and her dancing was great!! not to mention her singing has gotten better (not that it was bad before). I dont however like her STYLE…lol…she does need a little help in that…. but i really did wish that she stayed with YG, but then again maybe she would never have debuted…i LOVE YG but i dont think they’re good at promoting the girls in the company…i mean…look…Lexy and Park Bom left YG. but best wishes to MAY DONI!!!

check out her performances and MV!!!!

  72. 72 kate March 9, 2008 at 9:41 am

Park Bom is still with YG. They train their trainees well, just needs to work on promotion.

Btw, May Doni left JYP too.

  73. 73 huhuh March 9, 2008 at 10:28 am

She definitely can sing better than BoA. Dancing isn’t too bad either.

  74. 74 spin March 9, 2008 at 10:51 am

    a female Se7en!???

If that’s the female Se7en, I’d hate to see what the female “george washington” would be like.

She was more concerned about how she looked in her pink tracksuit, bopping her head from left to right than dancing. And her head is too big.

She looked like a lollypop. She’s got the first 3 moves of Se7en, but she forgot #4-20.

This isn’t even a compliment - its a fantasy. Nice try JYP. the girl should head back to dance practice ’cause she CAN”T dance.

  75. 75 spin March 9, 2008 at 10:53 am

oh, and I dont’ think in any of Se7en’s dances does he repeat the same move over and over again. He’s an athlete when he dances - he’s never content to be “middle of the road”

    what a joke.

  76. 76 okeydoke March 9, 2008 at 11:02 am

i dunno why this girl is called the female se7en.
no resemblance and she can’t even dance
she looks like a little girl, but her voice is good.

lacks the feel of a star and there’s nothing attractive about her. all i see is her big read hair.

  77. 77 spin March 9, 2008 at 11:07 am

oh, and i just have to add, her voice isn’t that great - she can sing, but she needs more maturity -

    I’d prefer Ali ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvIMXOHguSU ) or BMK ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFjU-ZMrTXw )

Don’t bother being flashy if you’re just going to end up appearing like trash

  78. 78 Drunken Tiger Fan March 9, 2008 at 11:17 am

^Looks like we got a jealous person up in here.

From what I see, I see a hella talented girl with a great voice, some smooth dance skills, and that’s just the start. Like a lot of people have said, she’s got room to grow even more. Seven’s already 25 and is about to slow down while May Doni is just going to get better day by day.

Don’t need to dog on her looks man. I’m pretty sure you’re not attractive, but nobody isn’t saying it to your face, yet they think it.

  79. 79 miyoung March 9, 2008 at 11:36 am

i dunno, may doni seems like one of those kids with a lot of talent and zero personal charisma.

who knows if she has the x factor. it’s not showing up in this video. se7en definitely has it, though

  80. 80 Ivy March 9, 2008 at 12:09 pm

Didn’t she leave YG Entertainment a while ago?

  81. 81 Cassidy March 9, 2008 at 12:58 pm

    She’s so small.

She should debut with another look. She could be a trendstarter.

  82. 82 rainy March 9, 2008 at 1:05 pm

    KyungMin .
thank u for clearing that to me . but i personally think that the whole thing is stupid . how can anyone compare a new comer to an established star with huge fan followers ? . secondly how is agirl named the female someone !!? why a man never called the man of some woman ?

its really pissing my off . becoz we r women then we have to be called the female of some man to be known and famous ?
women voice and body is different than men . this is a fact .
if i want to see agood dancing skills i will never enjoy watching a woman dancing as a man and vice versa .
each sex has its own uniqueness . own style .

i think her voice is amazing . for a change . we are sick of watching mv with pretty girls with nothing to offer !
and if she isnt that good dancer . then i think that its not a big deal coz i will be enjoying my self with her voice .
by the way . what happened to se7en ? is he still alive ?
i hope so . eager for his music album .

  83. 83 lisa March 9, 2008 at 1:06 pm

WOW shes really good.. nothing to say 0.0

  84. 84 hanah lee March 9, 2008 at 1:22 pm

she looks like a 12 year old trying to be a 21 year old

  85. 85 confused March 9, 2008 at 1:32 pm

    she’s alright.

    but passing se7en? i dunno.

  86. 86 sweetie14 March 9, 2008 at 1:41 pm

    she’s good~! but u cant compare her to SE7EN!!! she cant beat se7en u know…everybody knows that >.<

  87. 87 ahhh March 9, 2008 at 1:44 pm

i don’t think her dancing is all that great…it’s kind of…stiff? not natural at all…she’s really forcing herself to do it…i’m sure boa could do a much better job. i mean, she can dance better than a lot people, but i don’t think she can surpass se7en’s dancing. but we have to take into account that as a singer, you also have to sing and i can’t judge too much on that since i’ve never heard her sing before. we’ll just have to see.

  88. 88 Annie March 9, 2008 at 2:11 pm

May doni can probably surpass many artists in terms of singing. But from what i see, she seems like any other teenager hoping to hit the big time. What separates a success from a failure is their genuine passion for what they do (look at Rain, Boa, DBSK & Se7en they put in 110% in their training days and careers). It seems as though May Doni kept on jumping bandwagons until she reached a company that would debut her real quick.

On a side note, May Doni can dance but not that well. She doesn’t have fluid/natural movements like Hyoyeon or Min.

  89. 89 gina March 9, 2008 at 2:14 pm

Why do LSM/YG/JYP/andthem always put out the ’same ole, same ole’? It’s always: the hot sexy girl with a ‘tude doing lukewarm R&B music. Or the gorgeous guy doing like the typical ballads, or is a mean dance machine. Nobody but overzealous naive little fangirls ‘n boys are looking for a seventh Rain or Hyori. Bring something new, something fresh! Where is the fresh??? I’m seriously missing the fresh.

  90. 90 Cat March 9, 2008 at 2:17 pm

hehe may doni really likes to se7en’s songs doesnt she? i saw her in another clip where she danced to se7en’s “all night” with her sis

  91. 91 jo March 9, 2008 at 2:24 pm

gina, I so agree with you! I mean, I love kpop, I really do, but there’s only so much you can get from it. That’s the beauty that is western music: you seriously have everything for everyone.

  92. 92 Star March 9, 2008 at 2:45 pm

I think she is different..she has her own style unlike Joo (and Min) :) Her dancing skills are okay but her style will make her famous…just watch :)

  93. 93 ashleeey March 9, 2008 at 3:17 pm

    my 1st thought..i dont like her name..0__0..lol~
dancing is quite okay..havent heard her voice yet but after reading all those comments above me, she seems to have a great voice..a korean singing an english song without accent is good enough for me~~lol~
and i agree with jo..k-pop is starting to offer the same thing to its listeners..i’m hoping that they’ll come up with something fresh soon~~^^ but hey, i think FT island is kinda considered as a fresh debut..yea, they still bring on the cute guy image..but their music is kinda different than any other male groups out there..in my opinion anyway~
    uurhh..please stop the female-male comparison…TT^TT

  94. 94 shirl2912 March 9, 2008 at 3:56 pm

wats new….her dancing wasnt THAT impressive…

  95. 95 solabear March 9, 2008 at 4:14 pm

ok i like this girl. she is definitely talented.

But, she shouldn’t try to come out plugging herself as the female se7en, bc honestly ,her dance moves still look rough and kinda awkward. she should just play up the fact that she can sing. the bad image makeover and frenetic dancing could just end up tripping her up

  96. 96 miyoung March 9, 2008 at 5:31 pm

eh, I was with you until this: “if i want to see agood dancing skills i will never enjoy watching a woman dancing as a man and vice versa .
each sex has its own uniqueness . own style .”

you made a good pt about how it’s always women getting compared to men (although what about ajoo and younha?) but you don’t need gender essentialism to do it.

look at kaba modern. the girls there dance in an uber-feminine way and they also dance in a gender-neutral way doing the same moves as the guys. it all looks great.

  97. 97 anon March 9, 2008 at 6:04 pm

pretty good….. but based on the video posted, i’d say she was abit to rough and looked awkward

  98. 98 Angelbaby March 9, 2008 at 6:46 pm

She has a lollipop head lol.

I agree with Gina. I want kpop to bring something totally new to the scene. All I’ve seen from Music Bank is some overly sugared pop music (Girls Generation and Wonder Girls)

And as Gina stated “the hot sexy girl with a ‘tude doing lukewarm R&B music. Or the gorgeous guy doing like the typical ballads, or is a mean dance machine.”

And most of the kpop scene seems to be overly saturated with R&B and Hip Hop..For once I would like to see an acual Rock Song performed in Music Bank and not the crap they show with some cutey pie of a lead singer with fake bandmates who play instruments that are not even plugged into an amp! And don’t get me started on the actual credentials of those bandmates (Bank up dancers who are hired to be bandmates) playing those instruments.

I like my Kpop as any other korean girl in here but a little diversity in the music genre wouldn’t hurt….

  99. 99 Blahblahbon March 9, 2008 at 8:51 pm

Lmao. Dumpling that was the point. WHat I’m saying is if Min can make it, why can’t this chick? Min’s just as useless and has nothing to new to bring to the table either, yet Lil’ Jon wants her.

  100. 100 Remoneko March 9, 2008 at 9:11 pm

I don’t get why so many people are using this video as the main point of comparison and evidence that “she doesn’t have the ‘passion’ that Se7en has.” That’s obviously in the practice studio, it’s not a performance. Would you be putting 100% energy in and trying to do things that would absolutely wow the crowd when you’re in the practice room?

  101. 101 junsufan March 9, 2008 at 9:52 pm

this girl is GOOD. love her vocals. Sad thing is i don’t quite like her image, but whatever, her vocals and charisma makes up for everything.

  102. 102 maltesers March 9, 2008 at 10:22 pm

    i am not impressed ~ ~ ~

    se7en rocks!

  103. 103 Annyeong March 10, 2008 at 12:52 am

I’ve seen her debut performance on youtube. I like her voice, it’s so much better than other female singers have in Korea. But she has to drop that look…

  104. 104 Mika March 10, 2008 at 2:29 am

Yes I would consider this a perfect example for people to use as a comparison. She knew she was being video taped, knew there was a chance of it getting posted online and knew others would be comparing it to SE7EN. Why else would she be dancing to his song? She should have given it everything she had and if this is everything then there are many people who are unimpressed.

And let’s end the “let’s see you try it” line. You don’t have to be a professional to know something doesn’t look quite right. If you’re going to list dancing as one of your main skills then you can expect people to be watching and criticizing, especially if you’re not at the level you’re hyping.

  105. 105 koko March 10, 2008 at 3:38 am

popseoul, put up a live performance of her
    please :)

  106. 106 Taejus March 10, 2008 at 4:14 am

meh.. i dont know se7en enogh to compare her with him so i dont really know. But if she were to be put up with min… it would be interesting. and is it me or does her head look reeeeallly big…
i like her dance moves somewhat.^^
and im realy curiuos DUMPLING, what do you like? do u hate the korean indusrty sooooo much that u evn find the time to bash almost evry artist. and im also curiuos abt this too, which star do you admire? (doesnt matter where they’re from.)

  107. 107 penguin_x3 March 10, 2008 at 6:26 am

surpass se7en? Popseoul apparently has no talent and seeing whose the best. Her voice I must say is a tad bit better but her dancing is no where near se7en’s level. Se7en’s top talent! well not so much, but better than May Doni…if anything se7en probably help create her

  108. 108 cindy--rox March 10, 2008 at 7:49 am

i like may doni but i LOVE se7en…
the first time i heard her sing acapella i was amazed..
    but i don’t think she’s gonna surpass se7en…
she’s good but not better than se7en…

  109. 109 Liang March 10, 2008 at 7:50 am

    Gina and angelbaby are correct.
I like korean music, but listen to it too much, and you’re guaranteed to get diabetes.
There’s just too much sugary pop/R&B going on right now.
Only the crazy fan boys and girls could cope with that LOL.
There’s nothing really edgy in korean music at the moment.
If korean artists want success out here in the west, they need to come up with some serious uniqueness.

  110. 110 wassup March 10, 2008 at 8:05 am

man, this girl should debut with min in the US
    she has MAD POTENTIAL
i love her dancing and singing it rocks and it all seems so natural

  111. 111 bloo March 10, 2008 at 8:16 am

I can’t take her dancing serious when she looks like a midget. It just isn’t powerful.

  112. 112 Love-Peace-Music March 10, 2008 at 8:21 am

haha i was way too distracted by the backgroud dancer on the right to notice her dancing XP…that all ive got to say…

  113. 113 May March 10, 2008 at 8:38 am

    talented? yes
    charismatic? no

and why does she look like she’s 4 feet?

  114. 114 Beckbeck March 10, 2008 at 10:09 am

She’s a really good singer but I wouldn’t compare her to Se7en exactly, plus her dancing looks like any other girl k-pop group I’ve seen-crappy.

  115. 115 JGirl4You March 10, 2008 at 11:19 am

Se7en is unique, I think she’ll have her own style

  116. 116 miyoung March 10, 2008 at 11:46 am

someone posted a youtube link to may doni’s live debut. i don’t know about other people, but that’s what I was using for my comparison

  117. 117 nx512 March 10, 2008 at 2:19 pm

    she’s a freaking midget

  118. 118 Dumpling March 10, 2008 at 7:38 pm

    @ Taejus

Here’s some advice for you: when you’re going to ask someone a question (assuming you are really looking for an answer) you don’t accuse them of something else at the same time. What’s it going to be–a serious question or just a lame accusation? Make up your mind.

  119. 119 the one. March 11, 2008 at 7:59 am

not to be all mean or negative or anything.. i just feel like ger moves aren’t that powerful as min.. but maydoni has a better voice than min.. so idk.

  120. 120 xoxo March 11, 2008 at 12:01 pm

She’s adorable!!!! But she seems really young..how old is she? Maybe they should’ve waited a bit more until she matured and grew a bit.

Her voice is GREAT. Her dancing is not to my liking, but it just reminds me of that Asian group on Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew. It’s hip and modern. She has waaayyyy too much makeup. It makes her look like a future skank. It would be better if they tone down on the dancing and concentrate on her voice and the songs. Sometimes, kpop concentrates too much on dancing and not enough on advancing the actual music and talented vocalists out there.

I think it would be a huge mistake if they force her to become like those uglifying SNSD and WonderGirl bimbos with zero talent. Koreans need to take a break from the superficiality or their music will NEVER advance. Even when an artist is talented, all they do is talk about how pretty/handsome they are. (maybe with the exception of BigBang) I think MayDoni should come up with a concept like JOJO in the U.S., who debuted when she was 13 and is a huge success.

  121. 121 yaya March 11, 2008 at 1:08 pm

xoxo: right? It’s all about handsome, beautiful, and aegyo. Where’s the rock? Where’s the soul? Where’s the jazz? Where’s the real hiphop mcs? No. Only watered down R&B music.

  122. 122 Se7en March 11, 2008 at 2:25 pm

Please.. you can’t compare a newbie to se7en..

female se7en my left butt cheek..

she’s just gonna end up like all them other girls.. yeah she sings well but so does other washed out female artists… the fame is gonna get to her head and she’s just gonna become like all the rest.. OVERRATED

  123. 123 han March 14, 2008 at 8:09 pm

whatever i haven’t heard her voice yet but her move is so so. You need a dancer who’s better than boa on stage to surpass Se7en. Charisma? there ain’t any there

  124. 124 Orchid899 March 15, 2008 at 8:00 am

She’s got talent, but needs polishing. She reminds me more of a grasshopper than Se7en. She bounces & hops around too much. I can’t stand it when she shakes her head from side to side like that. She looks like a cheerleader.

  125. 125 Strawberryz April 14, 2008 at 5:58 am

her dancing is kind of strange… i don’t know why. But how can you even compare her voice to se7en’s? He’s a male artist, and she’s a female artist. They’re both different.

  126. 126 pammiej August 15, 2008 at 12:05 pm

From what I’ve seen…Rain and DBSK seems to be the best entertainment Korea has to offer. And the girls?..they don’t stand a chance. I am curious to know why women have to be the “female seven or rain” to get people’s attention. No originality. Why?
