The pain train continues for Rain

One messed up interview was painful enough, but again?

Rain should stop, you know, giving out interviews in English altogether, you know.

However, it’s likely that Rain’s inflated ego probably got the better of him since he is in “Hollywood” and in the U.S. media spotlight. The wannabe Hollywood star should remember that he also represents his country. And his country(wo)men are probably cowering behind their computer screens hoping that Americans don’t pick up on his lack of language skills. Rain must have paid Warner Brothers to cast him in the movie, Ninja Assassin (2009).

Check out the excerpt of another cringing interview by Latinoreview.com at 2008 Comic Con. This time Rain was interviewed with director James McTeguire and a translator was present. But even with the translator, he doesn’t make sense.

Latinoreview: Rain, will you talk a little about your character?  And why you were attracted to this?

Rain: Yeah.  ”Ninja Assassin” is a big martial arts film and my role is Raizo who’s an orphan growing up as a ninja assassin.  I love my character.  He’s a very nice guy.  [LAUGHS]

Latinoreview: What makes you say nice if he’s an assassin? (my thoughts exactly!)

Rain: I helped too many people, you know and then I killed too many ninja and you know it was my good experience and yeah, I love my character. (Didn’t he say this about his character in Speed Racer?)

Latinoreview: Can we talk about your character a little bit.  We saw her a little bit in the trailer. What sort of training was involved specifically?

Rain: I learned you know I have a lot of you know teachers, I learned you know these techniques in Taekwondo, Korean martial arts, yeah. You know every time you know every day I throw up.  [LAUGHS]  It was really hard.  You know it almost killed me.

…..

Rain: From the moment you know I’d been controlling my mind and menu with you know chicken breasts and vegetables.  Yeah.  I never work out again.

[LAUGHS] (did someone actually write out a script for him? “controlling my mind and menu” – I’ll have that with extra cheese)

Latinoreview: Even with the throwing up, didn’t it feel awesome to do what you could do after that?

Rain: Very shame.  You know it’s you know so horrible.  Yeah.

Latinoreview: Rain, how different are the Comic Con fans to your regular music fans?

Rain: Okay, I speak Korean a little bit. [KOREAN]

Translator: To me, the music fans and the movie fans are the same.  That’s to say I like both.  I think it’s important to harbor them both. ( also please get a new interpreter, not translator)

Latinoreview: Was it strange having 6000 people during the panel.

Rain: Always for me, sometimes screen, sometimes you know I love my fans and yeah.  They are my everything.

……

Latinoreview: What’s next?

Rain: Next project?  I don’t know yet, but I wish my next film would be love story with James (McTeguire- the director) with Naomi (Harris, co-star).

Rain: Take me!

Latinoreview:There can be action but not that kind of action.

McTeigue: The next film he’s in is called Ninja Lover. [LAUGHS]

Rain: Nice.

rain’s interview clips are halirious, u know. however, he needs to stop speaking in english, if he can’t fully understand it, u know. i was watching the clips and it seemed his interputer would try to translate the question for him, but rain would just go ahead and answer the question already. it seems to me like rain understand the interviewer but just can’t speak enlgish, u know. he needs to stop, take a step back, and look where he’s at and what he’s trying to achieve for himself and Asia/Korea, without making a fool of himself. AND seriously, u KNOW, he needs to stop sayhing JUST KIDDING and U KNOW, cuz man, we don’t know at all………..why he’s trying to make a debut in America when there’s obviously more Asians in this world who already love him as he is…..it just doesn’t make him look professional. sorry to rain fans. I am a FAN and im dissapointed.

Everyone blaming the interviewer for this train wreck of an interview needs to get a grip on reality. How is it anyone else’s fault Rain doesn’t understand what he’s being asked? He simply needs to work on his English. I don’t think anyone expected his English to be perfect, but it’s not even mediocre. I’m sorry but he just did a terrible job and it’s no one else’s fault. Hell, the interviewer did a decent job considering Rain was on the speaking on the wrong subject a majority of the time. And before anyone accuses me of being an anti-fan, I like the guy a lot, but the truth is the truth. I really hope he uses an interpreter in the near future, if not stick a fork in him because he’s done. Trust me America will reject him quick.

Why didnt he let the translator help him ( with the whole interview)???????
    The translator’s job is to……… …..TRANSLATE right ???????
    Confused!!!!!!! O.O

Hey, at least he’s trying right?
The random “you know” everywhere is kinda funny though :p

  7. 7 la-di-la July 29, 2008 at 7:00 pm

    One word: FAIL.

I don’t know how he’s gonna actually “star” in this movie if he can’t even speak English properly. My guess is he doesn’t have many lines at all.

you know, ohNO! im startin . this pain train for rain reminds me of the ex Malaysia’s Information Minister’s interview with Al Jazeera News . heres the transcript :

Minister: I commend yo-yo-your journalists trying to project… to exaggerate more than what actually happened. That-that-that-that’s it. We are not the-the and I-I congratulate your journalists behaving like an actor, that-that’s it…

Reporter: As you say that, sir, we’re watching scenes of protesters being sprayed by chemical-filled water!

Minister: YA! I am watching! I’m here! You’ve been trying… trying to do it this – to do this everywhere but in Malaysia people are allowed to, you know? We know our police head our colleague… Police have whatever allowed the procession to go to the Istana Negara, you know? Do police, first police, like, they handle them, they attack them, they… the police don’t, don’t, don’t fire anybody?

Reporter: Our correspondent came back to the office, sir, with chemicals in his eyes!

Minister:You-you-you-you are here with the idea, you are trying to project, what is your mind! You think that we Pakistan, we are Burma, we are Myanmar. Everything you-you are thinking! WE ARE DIFFERENT! We are totally different!

Reporter: Well unfortunately when you refuse to let people protest, it does appear so.

Minister: Ya ya we are not like you! You-you have earlier perception, you come here, you want to project us like undemocratic country. This a democratic country!

Reporter: So why can’t people protest then, if it’s a democratic country?

Minister: YES, PEOPLE PROTEST! People do-do… of course they protest. We are allowing them protest, and they have demonstrated. But we just trying to disperse them, and then later they-they-they don’t wanna disperse, but later our police compromise. They have compromised and allowed them to proceed to Istana Negara! Police, our police have succeeded in handling them gently, right? Why do you report that? You take the opposition, someone from opposition party you ask him to speak. You don’t take from the government, right?

Reporter: Why did you not break up these protests…

    Minister: Pardon? Pardon? Pardon?

Reporter: Why did you not break up these protests more peacefully?

    Minister: I can’t hear you! I can’t hear you!

Reporter: Why did you not break up these protests more peacefully?

    Minister: No we-we are! We… this protest is illegal! We don’t want..this… the… NORMALLY…

Reporter: OK, so let me return to my former question. Why is this protest illegal?

Minister: YA! It’s a illegal protest because we have the erection in Malaysia. It’s no-no point on having a protest! We are allowing to every erection… every five years never fail! We are not our like, like Myanmar, not like other country. And, and you are helping this. You Al-Jazeera also is helping this, this forces. The, you know, these forces who are not in passion, who don’t believe in democracy!

Reporter: Alright, many thanks for joining us.

Minister: I don’t, ya, you, Al-Jazeera, this is, is Al-Jazeera attitude. Right .RIGHT?

what ASHAMED! i find them kinda similar except this moron leave out the English fourth” Language ‘you know’ with That-that-that-that’s ….. haha lets all laughoutloud to the idiots . the video is available in youtube too.

I think that on Soompi they were referring to Rain’s pronunciation/accent which, in some ways, is actually pretty good. What little bit of English he speaks, he does fairly well. Regardless, English is one of the hardest languages to learn…I give him props for trying. =)

  12. 12 Brooke July 30, 2008 at 9:47 am

    At least he’s trying.

english is not his native language so it’s okay to have mistakes. He should be more ashame if he didn’t know korean language because he grew up on it.

we all have our flaws, look at our own selves first before pointing out other’s mistake.

    peace y’all!

  13. 13 krns_on_krns July 30, 2008 at 1:27 pm

I’m assume that many of the negative comments are coming from fellow koreans…
    just one thing…
THIS IS WHY KOREANS CANNOT SUCCEED IN THE US!!!!
One slip, one little mistake from a fellow countrymen and the rest of us goes bonkers!
“Oh he ruined his chances…look what he’s done!” “He’s embarrassing our people!”

    SEriously! STFU!!!
You don’t see the Chinese bringin down their own: Michelle Yeoh, Jackie Chan, or Jet Li..
I would think Jackie Chan and his “opera singing in Chinese” would be embarrassing for them but it’s NOT. He’s sold millions of albums!

Wake the F up you KOREAN bastards! support your people! don’t hate cuz THAT IS EMBARRASSING!

  14. 14 krns_on_krns July 30, 2008 at 1:33 pm

don’t practice what the older generations have taught us…
koreans are too prideful, prejudice, selfish, and full of ego…yeah, that goes to all you ‘practicing Christians’ as well…even more as a matter of fact.
i know WAY too many wannabe korean yuppies with their ivy educ (not kissing) but literally licking the fudge outta corporate white mens arses…

  15. 15 whats the big deal? August 1, 2008 at 5:46 pm

how supportive and concerned these people are but dont you get it? if he’s still baby step learning shouldnt he memorized a long script about what his character are and what about the movie! or else, just quit trying in US. he himself should known better what would happen if he messed up especially this kinds of little things which the media set an eye for. its true that he is an embrassment. if you couldnt, just dont. just dont have any interview in english make it in korean instead what more ashamed than making fun of yourself. whats so wrong with an article about his failure? or maybe people dont get it, A BLOG GOSSIP ! im not korean and i dont defence necessarily but when something caught me in dont hesitate.

  16. 16 mayalynn August 2, 2008 at 6:59 am

    wooow.
    what an idiot…=]
    poor thing,

  17. 17 Tiffna August 2, 2008 at 8:04 pm

He’s really trying. I know Koreans are not too good in English.

And Popseoul, please don’t hate Rain. They have a lot of fans in Asia, you know.

AND You’re TOO OBSESSED with Lee Hyori. You’re reporting about her TOO MUCH. I even don’t know anything special in her.

  18. 18 Kira August 12, 2008 at 4:01 am

Wow I’m ashamed at all of you who are bashing rain. What kind of fans are you? Do you know how hard it is to learn another language? You can tell he’s really really trying hard hey he may have embarrassed himself this time maybe another time he will succeed but in the end he will overcome his embarrassing interviews and make it in America. I mean I swear If he was using his translators you would of bashed him saying “Oh he’s not trying at all” blah blah blah all your other BS comments you guys leave.Seriously I had enough of this bashing of rain enough is enough ..And Popseoul What is the matter with you guys? Every rain article is about How his career is sinking in the drain , he’s getting less famous , and he’s desperate. First of all He’s career is not going down the drain! If it was ,you wouldn’t be talking about him in the first place? Right? I mean If you don’t like him Why write about him? Stop it. Or maybe you need the views and high comment ratings. I can’t believe it .. I really can’t calling him a Idiot , Saying he should get enlisted, he’s making my pride go down etc.. Bunch of BullFckinSht!!!! But when he becomes a big Hollywood star I bet the tune will change in the comments because he won’t be embarrassing anymore. Disgrace.

    http://baloneyandcereal.blogspot.com/2008/07/comic-con-2008-thursday-evening.html

This dude Rain was there for a movie. If you watch The Colbert Report you might know him because they have a rivalry going. He’s a huge Korean pop star or something. All I know is he doesn’t speak much English, and the English he speaks involves “girls”, “see my movie”, and “I am the best.” I like this kid.

LOL. I’m not sure whether this person was sarcastic or not.

  20. 20 Clee August 17, 2008 at 9:37 am

I would love to be in the movie Ninja Lover. LOL He can make out with me a million times in it….I think it would end up being x rated if there was no security on set ha ha

  21. 21 gengsha September 23, 2008 at 10:44 am

    guyz…lets undrestand rai…you know…now he’s korean…you know…but i was curious about how many times he speak the words ….you know….

  22. 22 Ti September 24, 2008 at 12:26 pm

At least he is not that bad ,good effort for trying though.I must admit learning another language is very hard, trust me.And he does say “you know” which is awkward.Keep trying and make a good comeback !!!!
