Rain, stop controlling your mind and menu with chicken breasts and vegetables!

20080730_rain

I know. Knocking a guy down when he’s already down isn’t very nice. But I just can’t help it!

Rain is pure comedy. The reason being is that you can’t make this stuff up.

Yet again, Magic Feet entertains with the same hilarious (and rehearsed) line “controlling my mind and menu with chicken breasts and vegetables…you know, it’s horrible, you know” in another interview at the 2008 ComicCon in San Diego. This time, you can see the translator beside him trying to keep a straight face by looking down. Just imagine how many times the poor guy has heard that same tired line!

The best part of the interview was at the end:

Interviewer: “Did you learn any German?”

Rain: “It was beautiful. Yeah.” (translator whispers)

Interviewer: What are you working on next?

Rain: ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… I don’t know yet but….I wish… I wish… you know… my next film … would be…love story”

The repeated mention of a “love story” here at the end of this interview and also in the Movieweb interview suggest that the man needs some real good loving. I guess the “two swords” as girlfriends did not satisfy.

Any volunteers?

Check out the interview: (Note: Since you are probably desensitized from the 2 previous interviews, this one is not so bad)

    @ Whatever

I am not trying to start anything here abt Jay Chou. I think Jay understands more english than he speaks. For Rain, I dun know because I havent been in his head before. Wish I could though.

I am a huge fan of Jay too and applaud his effort when he said ” why should we learn english, when the rest of the world can learn mandarin?” Coming out of someone else, that might’ve sounded mightily pompous but someone as big as he is in Asia, I say it’s appropriate.

My journo friend managed to sneak me into a press con Jay did for his movie Secrets ; all the questions were fielded in English but he answered them accurately in Mandarin. No translator needed. I dun know if Rain can do that.

    Rain at Comic-Con

What a waste of attention. This dude couldn’t speak enough English to talk his way out of a phone booth. The Q&A session went a lot like this:

Exuberant fan #1: “Hey, Rain, you’re awesome. You’re totally awesome. Now that you’ve done an action movie, are you going to move on to something like comedy? I love you. You’re awesome.”

Rain: “I work very hard on this movie. Very good. Everyone… give your money… see it.”

Exuberant fan #2: “Rain, you’re so cute. What do you like about American girls?”

Rain: “I work very hard on this movie. Very good. Everyone… give your money… see it.”

Stop criticizing his English. Just imagine yourself learning a new language. Not to mention he’s often too busy to spend enough time learning English. But he’s improved so much. The translator was hardly any help to him. Which means his English, slowly but surely, is improving. :D

  5. 5 Morbi August 23, 2008 at 4:08 pm

    His pronounciation isn’t bad actually…he just can’t really find the right words to say, plus the fact that he can’t understand half of it…>.>;;

  8. 8 Eggz September 24, 2008 at 9:54 am

Leave Rain alone. He is doing very well; I think his english gets better every second, and minute of the day.

LOL. I don’t even like rain but this is so juvenile. I mean, I’ve heard worse interviews.

@ Jjok Pal Yuh – I don’t know why, but to me you type like you eat senator Mccain’s poop for lunch. :(

i like rain but he needs to go home to korea, where he belongs
if he wants to break into the US market, he needs to toughen up his vocab, his accent is pretty decent but there is a MAJOR issue with the vocab.

he also needs to stop sounding like a bimbo too, “like…you know” “like…” “you know…”

  13. 13 shameera410 October 11, 2008 at 2:51 pm

    WTF is this???

  14. 14 MiniMomu26 October 23, 2008 at 3:57 pm

the love story bit makes tons of sense now.
he was totally plugging his love story mv/movie.

  15. 15 Chris November 30, 2008 at 3:01 pm

Actually I don’t see why people are hating on him so much. He accent is pretty damn good, and the “y’know” might be a bit overused but sounds somewhat natural. His responses were pretty spot on for the most part, though admittedly yeah the “chicken breast and vegetables” had me grinning a bit.

Seriously guys, I’m no huge fan of Rain myself, but he has some good stuff and this was a pretty good effort at an interview. I’m a native English speaking Korean, but I reckon even I’d be stuck trying to come up with sophisticated answers to a live interview… He just needs some time to get into the flow. Nonetheless, kudos to Rain for have a good shot.

PS. The “y’know” thing might have come from the whole RNB, etc. scene that he’s probably getting influenced from.

  16. 16 Chris November 30, 2008 at 3:02 pm

Oh yeah, and I’m definitely looking forward to Ninja Assassin. About time a Korean got a lead role in Hollywood… I’m pretty sure Rain could easily pull of scripted lines, considering he’s a damn fine actor as well ^^

  17. 17 Hyura December 24, 2008 at 3:57 am

Okay, I will admit some of those responses were horrible and like WTF?? but hey at least he’s TRYING to learn English. MUCH better than certain people who go to other countries and then swear and complain about people not knowing their language. *cough* Americans *cough*

Oh yeah, and I AM American by the way. Just thought I’d mention that do avoid any ‘clever’ comebacks or ‘witty’ remarks.

  18. 18 XD December 25, 2008 at 6:24 pm

    lol shame, stupid selfish jerk.

soz to rain fans, that’s just my op. of him.

    no flame!

  19. 19 Betsy December 26, 2008 at 6:41 pm

    His english is really bad…
    but..
I think it’s the fault of the tranlator..
    He should not be whispering…
    Say it aloud to Rain…right..?

    or maybe..on otherhand..
rain should be listening to his translator too…

  20. 20 verbatimcries January 5, 2009 at 4:16 pm

He may have improve his pronunciation of words in his songs but he needs to work more on his communication.

    AzaAza fighting!!

  21. 21 sabrinaazalia February 11, 2009 at 12:20 am

    HEY ENOUGH!
I KNOW HIS ENGLISH IS BAD!
BUT IT’S HIS TRANSLATOR FAULTS ACTUALLY!
MAYBE HE TRANSLATED IT WRONGLY, SO RAIN MISUNDERSTAND THE QUESTION!

IT’S OKAY RAIN, ENGLISH IS NOT YOUR MOTHER LANGUAGE THO’ ;)
    KEEP PRACTICIN’
