At the 2008 MTV Asia Awards, Super Junior won the award for Favorite Artist of Korea on August 2nd 2008 in Malaysia where Siwon accepted the award on behalf of the group. POPSEOUL! notes that Siwon’s English skills, although obviously rehearsed, sounded eloquent compared to the nonsensical verbal diarrhea from Rain’s multiple attempts at English.
For more Super Junior, catch K-popped’s interview at the MTV Asia press conference.
Check out Siwon’s thank you speech:

english language is…. just a language…
To noname,
I think Siwon is cocky in any language. Sometimes, I don’t even want to read the subtitles. Hehe..
Anyway, it’s still better than Rain’s. I totally agree with the nonsensical verbal diarrhea. Lol.
Love you Siwon! and Congrats SUJU!!!!
He really did put Rain to shame XDDD Imagine Rain there “uhmmmmmmmmmmm i LIAAAKRE to (Thank *fake american accent*) all my fans ahmmmmmmmmmmm yeah ahmmmmmmmmmm i lav you all thank you ahmmmm thank you”
Haha
Putting that aside congrats Suju and well done Siwon
So does it go something like Se7en>Siwon>Toodlers>Rain?
soorry for what im about to say but, i really dont understand a word of siwon, of course thats no problem, i just loook and look at him, jeje, but his english is still little bad
…..but im sooo happy that super junior won that award, i literally vote for SJ like 1000000 times jeje….fighting!
Why is it that Popseoul ALWAYS mentions Rain?
…English English, American English, Canadian English, Australian English, and New Zealand’s English are all spoken with different regional accents but you cannot deny the fact that it’s English as spoken by native English speakers…so what’s wrong having a Korean accent when one is Korean, French accent when one is French, Italian accent when you’re Italian, Russian accent when you’re Russian, or speaking Pidgin English when you’re a native of New Guinea? Non-native English speakers may speak funny to some but the truth is if you speak another language there’s the tendency to speak with a detectable accent like if an American tries to speak Korean…so it’s the same thing.
…Not to mention that Siwon doesn’t even speak English as a second language yet.
“”"although obviously rehearsed, sounded eloquent compared to the nonsensical verbal diarrhea from Rain’s multiple attempts at English”"”"
—-even fluent english speaking people try to rehearse their speech…
as for rain, i think you should commend his efforts too considering it’s really hard for koreans (especially the grown up ones) to learn the language because korean language and english language have different sentence pattern construction…
Siwon has speaks better, looks better (HAIR!!), and probably sings better as well.
YOU ALL NEED TO WATCH THIS… SE7EN IS AMAAAAZING, NOT ONLY IS SIWON PUTTING RAIN TO SHAME–BUT SE7EN AS WELL!!!
HE’S GONNA SHOW RAIN HOW TO SPEAK ENGLISH IN THE U.S.!!
^^SE7EN STARTS TALKING @ 1:08.
RAIN NEEDS TO WORK HARDER ON HIS ENGRISH!
^Coz of that link, I’m expecting another post with Rain’s-english-sucks or Se7en-puts-Rain-to-shame a few moments from now..phew..
congrats super junior…. shiwon English is good……
I have a lot of respect for Rain cos’ very few people can do what he has done and accomplish what he has achieved.I have heard him speaking English in a few interviews and I’m
definitely of the opinion that his command of English is much better than Siwon’s now.I think he had been speaking out of sorts lately as he was depressed over the breakup with his ex-girlfriend as evidenced by the songs ” In My Bed” and the song he sang with a female singer named Su Jeong.
Siwon’s english is pretty good…but Se7en’s english is better than Siwon’s and Rain’s. Anyway….Big Bang should have won that award. I’m saying this and I’m a Suju fan.
omg looking at heechul’s cool face makes me wana laugh but other than that, yes siwon did better than rain but WOW KIBUM AINT HERE to speak his ‘perfect english’ lol
Hey, guess what?? I live in Malaysia!!!
and yeah, Shiwonnie’s english skills are much much much better compared to Rain’s….imagine, a none learner and ESL student fighting, and…as it turns out, Shiwon wins… Rain just didn’t put much effort into it, all he wnats to do in the US is gaining popularity….he should spare his time learning, not just singing….what’s the point of singing if you don’t know what it is all about???
To read a prepared speech which Siwon did just requires memoty work. To answer questions in an interview which Rain did requires a higher command of the language. Rain did put in much effort to learn English despite hectic schedule.Remember he held concerts on both sides of the Pacific ocean.Besides spending much time to acquire excellent dancing skills,he is also a good actor and singer.Which entertainer does not hope to gain popularity? Are u certain that Rain does not understand what he is singing about? I bet he does. Please give credit where it is due.
LOL AT HEECHUL!!
love that guy lols.
siwon is pro, what can i say?
Wow! Suju is pretty good at english! Awww! Its so cute! Sungmin >.<
justsaying: well, now that Rain has passed those critical conditions, why not he try harder on English? It’s sad to say that SJ Siwon’s English is better than his, when English is not even Siwon’s second language. (I think? The kid speaks Mandarin as well.)
I’m not doubting Rain’s English at all. OBVIOUSLY the man had it harder than Siwon. Rain had English interviews, Siwon just had to say a speech in English that’s obviously been rehearsed. But regardless, Siwon’s ability to speak English IS much better than Rain’s, at least from what I hear. Stop giving excuses for Rain. His English is bad, and it’s given.
If Siwon was to go global like Rain, he’ll do much better than Rain, considering that he has better chances – Siwon has better English, a better voice, better acting. Yes and also, he looks better too. The only thing missing is that his dancing is not up to par at all with Rain’s.
So Siwon was a rich kid and Rain wasn’t. Siwon had the chance and Rain didn’t. What difference does that make now? If Rain can hire ENGLISH TUTORS now than that means he has just as much chances as Siwon.
Siwon’s English pwns Rain’s but I still don’t see the use of dragging Rain into this. Give the man some slack.
And I don’t think English is Siwon’s second language. If he does have one, than it must be Mandarin because he lived in Beijing for six months before he debuted and plus he’s now living in China with the rest of SJ-M. (Although I think Siwon’s English is now better than his Mandarin, lol) I’ve watched Full House, and Siwon’s English was… bad. Whenever he spoke English he always looked at Kibum as if asking him if he was speaking it correctly. And he didn’t even speak English correctly – although accent was good, he was speaking in broken English. I’m amazed at Siwon’s improvement.
POPSEOUL : Everything about Rain and others

Hahahaha. What else?! I missed this also.
Pop Hoe making comparisons between a so-rehearsed line and an impromptu interview. Way to go!
Maybe it’s really “biologically” in you. Hahahaha!
***
You know why it’s so obviously rehearsed?????
The guy kept saying “I” and they are a 12 or 13 member group!
To be fair to Rain though, he speaks well when it’s rehearsed.
GO SUPER JUNIOR ! 8DD
congratulations to them.^^
-
on another note:
i do not understand why popseoul doesnt just write “congratulations to Super junior for winning the mtv asia awards-…”
i guess its because they usually bash super junior, so they drag someone else in to bash instead as for a ‘congratulations.’
why thanks popseoul ! >_________>;;
si won-sshi is the best!
hahaaha, shame on u rain…
si won:1
rain:0
gawd! eeteuk is super CUTE here <333333
yeah, i never know that siwon can speak english..
anyway, congrats to suju!!
I think his english sounds good…
he can speaks as well..
btw…
Congratulation for them…
Hwaiting…!!
someone said it already but I think I heard Siwon say “Mr. Smelly” too….lmao
Other than that, I think he did a decent job with the speech and surprised most people.
Let me get this straight…Rain has international fame…is one of the most successful Korean acts..represented South Korea for People”s Most beautiful…is the only Asian act to perform at Madison Square Garden …and has been named one of TIME magazine’s Most Influential People. But because his English isn’t good…he isn’t better than this kid from Super Junior? Must be a Korean thing (which I am not). Poor Rain…I feel so sorry for him. He has such fickle people to please.
Si Won has always been good at languages… rehearsed or not… it’s a notable effort… compared to the English of others… tsk tsk…
Kibum was not there for all those who are bashing Kibum for not doing the speech, plus he only lived in US for like what? 3 years, and he lived in Korea town ffs. So don’t look down on people just because they can’t speak a language well (then you are no better than Tiffany), same goes with Rain, the guy works and trying to improve himself 24/7, give the guy a break.
I don’t think Kibum’s English is sooooo good either. It’s just good enough… and yeah… no reason to bash him for not being the one speaking. Let someone else practice their English.
As for Rain’s efforts… Sure he’s really successful and all, but that only means he has no room to mess up… and he has messed up big… many times. Si Won may not be better than him collectively, but he knows where to channel his efforts to. Or at least SM ensures he knows where he’s channeling his efforts. Rain… he’s too big for his company to tell him what to do… so it could only be up to him… to improve, or to cruise… (possibly downwards).
Congratulations Suju…I know you will win…Siwon rocks…and no one gonna deny it…
I am Suju fan (and not even Rain’s fan)…but I don’t like the idea of comparing Rain’s and Siwon’s command of English…They both are great entertainers…and they are successful…we should be proud of them as their fans…
Suju Fighting…:D
omg he is soooo brillant! You are the best si won.
he’s always de best! yes.iwatched it n Siwon is much more better than Bi
