Despite denying earlier rumors that he will perform at the Closing Ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games, Rain surprised by showing up in Beijing a few days earlier. In front of 91,000 spectators at National Stadium on August 23rd 2008, Rain, sporting a new hairstyle again, performed in Chinese, the song, “Beijing Beijing, I love Beijing.” He shared the stage with Hong Kong star Kelly Chen and Taiwanese hottie, Wang Lee Hom.
Rain will extend his language skills by singing a song in Chinese on his upcoming album. The new album is expected to be released in October 2008.

Like many of you have said Rain looked totally Chinese there. In the last picture where he has on sunshades, he almost looks like Nicholas Tse. Hated the song!

Much as many antis and thinking clouds know, Rain is not the most humble or congenial of stars we know,
He has his diva moments but I don’t think he really considers himself a world star. It was coined by the Korean media who are proud that their ” son of heaven ” has accomplished what many entertainers have not managed to.
I’ve seen him give interviews in non-Korean speaking ctries when he side-steps questions like ” how to you feel being called a world star” ? In other interviews at home, and depending on whether he’s in a chatty mood or not, he’ll take the trouble to clarify that he is working towards it and hasn’t reached that level yet.
He is an Asian superstar but definitely not a world star yet. I hope he makes more inroads but time seems to be running out for him and he is showing signs of fatigue + burn-out after 6 yrs.

He got the part because the Games are about global friendship, bonding (supposedly) and diversity.
He needed to go to Beijing to fulfil his Samsung obligations anyway. And when invited, he leapt at the chance to perform . Evident from him butting in whenever the camera panned onto whoever was singing. Since when has he been pally with Lee Hom, I’d like to see him put his arm around LH when the cameras have been switched off.
More screen time = increased chances of being recognised. Not that it worked, he and the many other performers were dwarfed by the sheer pomp pageanty of the event.
I am far from being an anti, I just find his actions questionable and fake most of the time.

i’m so glad my baby cut his hair cause that mullet was so wrong. i looked for him at the closing ceremonies but just like the openings the stupid crackers were talking the whole time so i could barely hear anyone sing and they only showed a close up of jackie chan (and andy lau by closeness to jackie) and mention him by name like it was his show. i get that jackie is big in america but uhm if this was the grammys and someone was performing would they do this? no. thank the gods for youtube.
I was just wondering who was that gay looking guy in blue when I saw it on TV, I thought he was Chinese too. It turned out to be Rain who got a haircut apparently. Then again, I didn’t recognize Leehom either. And NBC only showed Jackie Chan anyway which is funny coz Andy Lau was right next to him. Funny how these coverage works.
