So you don’t want to eat his kimchi, but what about eating at his Korean restaurant?
Before giving details on the restaurant, let’s walk through the food. At first glance, the layout and colors of the dishes looked scrumptious, but at closer inspection-the first thought that came to mind was? is this traditional Korean food? Hell no. More like bastardized Korean food (excuse my French). Bae Yong-joon mixes “anju” with other side dished. For example, odeng (fish cake soup) is never eaten for dinner as part of a traditional meal. It is usually an afternoon snack for kids or “an-ju” (hot and cold snacks served with alcohol). Ditto with pajeon (green onion pancake-yum!), which looks unappetizing and doughy. The “hye-dok-bab” (mixed rice with sashimi and vegetables bound together with a Korean chili-paste sauce) is generally a meal in itself. I could go on…but I will spare you.
So this is the spread that you can have at Bae Yong-joon’s restaurant, ‘Gosireh’ in Japan. The money-maker has one restaurant in Tokyo and will open a 2nd in Nagoya City in October 2008.

that looks good…
first!!!yummy
mmm yummy food!! dang bae yong joon is doing everything!!!
i wonder what the prices are…
I actually think it looks appetizing… traditional maybe not
but then again it’s in japan isn’t it?
I reckon, these are not Traditional Korean food!!!But again, we must support him, right???and actually PS, it does look appetizing, just what Calvin said. The interior of the restaurant is also great.Never mind about the style the dishes been brought up, we must give him a credit for what he does…PS, do you have that much money to open a restaurant, and worse, do you have the ‘much’ money to open a franchise in Japan???Think before you post an article…^_^
Wow those food are starving me.
gosireh in nagayo is different from the one in tokyo. the one it tokyo is so classy and that it’ll take a month before they take your reservation. in tokyo they serve the traditional korean dish. i just forgot how many viands are there. i will check it out for you later. the gosireh in nagoya if i’m not mistaken would cater mostly to working people and its theme is more like of a bar, serving more korean liquor, roasted, and fried dishes that is why food that you see in the photo are not the traditional dishes are served for dinner or lunch. PS you never really learn. post the complete details before you make post.
that got me hungry, fast!
it won’t be BYJ’s korean food unless it’s overpriced, eh?
they should pick up the local trend: have BYJ-lookalike spread naked (except for scarf & glasses?) on dining table, the obasans then eat the courses off his (chiseled) body.
This is the legitimate article.
“[ChanMi's star news] Bae Yong-joon opens a restaurant in Japan
Famous actor Bae Yong-joon was successful in his first restaurant and opens a second chain restaurant ‘Gosireh’.
August 2006, Bae has opened a Traditional Korean Restaurant in Tokyo and has been very popular. In October this year, he is opening a chain.
The first restaurant was a luxurious dining where the sophisticated decorations with dark colors gives a weighty aura. For the second restaurant the interior is designed with a fire theme serving more Korean liquor, roasted, and fried dishes. The restaurant opens at 5 P.M containing 80 seats with special times providing unique services.”
Now you will notice that this writer is not grasping the meaning of the news article. The Traditional Korean Restaurant is in “Tokyo” while the soon to open Nagoya branch is more on the “casual” theme.
Please do your homework properly before posting. You’re confusing the readers.
This is a complete translated article from regarding BYJ restaurants Korea. Please don’t complain about the English bec the person who translated this article speaks many languages and her native tongue is not English.
BYJ, invests 30 billion (won) in expanding Korean cuisine specialty restaurant ‘Gosireh’
[Donga Daily]3/27/08 08:19
There begins ‘40 billion Asia Project’ by BYJ, the front runner in Hallyu hot wind. BYJ, having been enjoying top popularity in Asia as an actor all the while, will be out as an businessman in this time, and advance his own Korean cuisine restaurant brand ‘Gosireh’ into 5 Asian countries within this year.
The ‘Gosireh’ is a Korean court cuisine specialty restaurant which BYJ, having highly interested in restaurant business in ordinary time, set up in Shirokane, Tokyo in July 2006. It gathered a lot of topic of talks from early upon opening business, and since then, it is established as a new famous spot where gourmets in Tokyo visit.
Mr. Chung Kyeongeon, CEO at the Smart Kitchen, BYJ’s business partner in restaurant business told, “Powered by success of Tokyo branch of the ‘Gosireh’, we are presently pushing forward a second branch restaurant in Nagoya,” and “Beginning with Nagoya branch that will be in a size of 120-pyeong, we will expand business network in Japan into 3rd branch within this year.”
BYJ will define year 2008 as ‘the first year for spreading Korean cuisine’ and plans to perfowm ambitious walk of extending to Panasian region going beyond Japan, the epicenter of Hallyu hot wind. Mr. Chung, CEO, told, “At present we are preparing to open (restaurants) within this year including Hong Kong, Shanghai in China, as well as Singapore and Indonesia, and the result will be very positive.”
Continuation..
The investment amount in ‘Project to advance into 5 Asian countries’ is expected to reach in a range at about 30 billion won. BOF International, which is in charge of BYJ’s overseas businesses, predicted that “When we take into consideration of size of 6 branches to be built additionally in this year, particularly branches in Hong Kong and Shanhai in China, amount of investment will be around 30 billion won”, pointing out that capital for Tokyo branch of the ‘Gosireh’ was 415 million yen(4.177 billion won).
Also, sale to be recorded from ‘7 branches in 5 nations’ is expected to be at least over 40 billion won, considering that annual sale at Tokyo branch is 6 billion won.
However, what BYJ expects the most through project like this is propagation of Korean food culture into Asia. BOF International stressed that “BYJ’s dream is not increasing profit, but spreading another different Korean Culture through food, following dramas.”
Actually, the utmost devotion BYJ has been exerting himself into the ‘Gosireh’ all the while is going beyond level of simple for-profit business.
At present, Professor Han Bokjin, who is a third daughter of late Mrs, Hwang Hyeseong, who was skill keeper in Korean court cuisine, as well as Dean at Graduate School of Culture and Tourism in Jeonjoo University, is in charge of organization and supervision of menu in ‘Gosireh’. famous Korean designer personally designed interior and staff’s uniforms. Food materials are also either flown from Korea by airplane on the same day or supplied from exclusively contract farms in Japan localities.
BYJ continiues showed interests including having sampling meeting on new menu even while he was filming drama ‘TWSSG’ in Jeju Island. A staff at BOF International introduced, “Most of profit from Tokyo branch of the ‘Gosireh’ are spent for highest grade food material and personnel expense for service, etc.,” and “If we only think of profit, it is impossible to invest like this.”

Thats interesting. I was just in Japan earlier this month and I was in Tokyo. Its probably not as well known since theres not been much publicity. I figured since he’s so popular in Japan, maybe someone would’ve talked about it.. hmm.
I didnt hear about him opening a restaurant until this article nor have anyone in Tokyo been talking about this. Its probably quite popular if you are a BYJ fan and you’re into Korean food.
how about looking for it in youtube?
all of the tv stations announced it?
they even sometimes bradcast it when there are new menu’s.
u were in tokyo? where in tokyo?
fyi his restaurant is in shirogane its a hihg class town
u really wouldnt heard about about it if ur just in akihabara.
@kirara43
You have to ask the people cos nobody will tell you if you won’t ask. I live in Japan and I can say that his restaurant is pretty popular even with non BYJ fans.
I’m so sure about this because every TV stations reported about the first Gosireh and its opening on Nationwide TV broadcast. The second Gosireh in Nagoya was known also to the public when he visited the still even if the site is still under construction. The scene of him going there was all over the TV. Even the scene when he rode the ferries wheel on that building was reported on TV.
Don’t tell a lie on the net.
Ha ha ha where’s Meru ?
kirara43 , are you Meru?
Who’s Meru now??
Oh, kirara43 ! please…. that’s just too lame….
But don’t all “tradition” (insert country) restaurants do that. Foreigners generally wont know that one dish is usually eaten for dinner, or the afternoon, or if old people usually eat it, etc. Just like chinese food in the US. If someone came from China, it would probably be kinda weird and more like “chinese-american” food.
Wow, another restaurant for BYJ……awesome… the one in Seoul is actually very nice……..
hahaha….
PS
you looks stupid here…
more accurate next time
do ur homework… and some research first
stupid and lazy girls….
I LOVE KOREAN FOOD!!!!
