Se7en is trying

Se7en_080830_1

Unlike a certain someone who has been “controlling (his) mind and menu with chicken breasts and vegetables”, Se7en has actually put his money where his mouth is.

How?

Well, Se7en has just launched his new official Myspace page. His English skills are infinitely better than Magic Feet, mega U.S. producer Dark Child is backing him up and the man definitely has soul when he sings (in Korean).

So the million dollar question is-is this enough?

Like Rain and Boa, Se7en is another Korean pop-star who has been eying a slice of America for quite some time. Last year, POPSEOUL! was disappointed by his performance (or lack of) at the launch party in New York. The Rain rival must have been working under the radar since because now, Se7en looks ready for the American spotlight. But again, is America ready for him?

FIGHTING SE7EN! Oh I cannot wait he will succeed especially if he comes to NYC! I am rooting for him and wish him so much luck I cannot wait for the release of his English CD!

I watched the clip yourface posted and I have to say he has reached the competency level of someone who has invested the amt of time he has invested in learning english. It felt to me that his answers to the first two qns were reheased and prepared but the third and fourth ones were well answered. The way he answered the last qn abt how he feels abt Three Six Mafia was pretty duh… what kind of answer is they are cool guys. I mean he was asked how he feels abt them – he shld perhaps say something like they are talented/ hardworking (insert appropriate adjective here) instead of saying ” cool ” which is a filler word

Other than that, I think his language skills are fly. Hope he keeps improving. I was listening out for the pronunciation and diction – seems like he didnt put a foot wrong either.

  4. 5 tewkewl September 3, 2008 at 1:05 pm

rain’s english sounds like a guy chewing on a slug. Se7en’s english rocks. damn. hope he makes it big. But he better not eat any american beef since he was part of that hysteria that was against american “mad cow” meat products.

  5. 6 Song September 3, 2008 at 1:08 pm

Fighting SE7en! You can do it! America’s ready for you! Fighting!

  6. 7 aileeee September 3, 2008 at 1:29 pm

    in shock.

i respect the fact that he actually worked his ass off to be able to speak such presentable english, unlike rain who was like, to hell with it, i can do it.

    go se7en!

  7. 8 Ann*e September 3, 2008 at 2:13 pm

    WHOA!!!
    HE’S LIKE SUPER GOOD!
still a little fobby, but it’s
    almost perfect!!! :O

    i just hope the americans
don’t make fun of him because
    he’s an asian rapper.
    (or something~!)

  8. 9 renzus September 3, 2008 at 2:25 pm

when is se7en gonna release an album??

  9. 10 now September 3, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Ann*e: Don’t use the word ‘fobby’ because you are indirectly making fun of oversea Asians. Hypocrite.

Se7en is really trying hard – if anyone know how difficult learning languages is and obtaining fluency – they should understand what kind of effort other people go through.

  10. 11 Kyla September 3, 2008 at 2:46 pm

YES..Se7en has so much, 500x better English than Rain! I wish Se7en success and luck in the U.S. market! I hope that he makes it big here in the States. I also hope that him and his company doesn’t make any stupid mistakes like Rain.

  11. 12 fraulein September 3, 2008 at 3:48 pm

Getting the english right was the first part, now let’s see him get down to the music part instead of canoodling with chicks and groupies in clubs.

  12. 13 kimberly September 3, 2008 at 4:12 pm

^That’s so true. I’m a huge fan of his, but I hate seeing pictures of him with skanky-looking gals [and I've seen a lot of pictures, trust me]. Yeah, I’m jealous – but it’s so off-putting. I still want to see him as the sweet, gentleman Se7en I believed him to be.

I want him to succeed in America, but then I don’t in a way. **sigh** I’m just a jealous fan… the thing is, I’d rather not know anything about his social/love life. But in America, when you’re famous – all kinds of crap/gossip will go around…

  13. 14 milk&juice September 3, 2008 at 4:20 pm

OMG! se7ennnnn………….. his english is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than rain. && he looks soo GOOD…. am i right? OR AM I RIGHT?! LOL but why does he keep delaying his album release =[ I HAVE GREAT EXPECTATIONS when it comes out cus hes taking way to freakin long!

  14. 15 Sail September 3, 2008 at 4:29 pm

Newsflash, lots of clubs have girls wearing provocative clothing – it’s pretty much normal in America. And a lot of new artists have to promote their songs through clubs. Skull did this too – and he was able to get up on the Billboard.

Se7en is pretty sweet. I met him at one of the autograph sessions. I think it easily shows in his videos as well. Good things will come for those who wait.

  15. 16 grace September 3, 2008 at 4:35 pm

This comment has nothing to do with se7en (yay!) but what is with the final fantasy song starting out his introduction?

  16. 17 kas September 3, 2008 at 4:55 pm

His English skills is definitely way better than Rain’s. But even before they both said they’re gonna have American albums, Se7en’s english was already better.

Is he ready? Yes, looks like it.

Is America ready? Nope. Sorry. Especially when he looks like a ghetto. He just looks like a black-wannabe. I’ve heard 3 songs and saw his one performance that was posted, it just screams another-asian-trying-to-sound-and-act-black.

  17. 18 uhm..yeah September 3, 2008 at 5:01 pm

Yep. Keep your shades on, Se7en.
Coz people will call you a wannabe when they see your eyes. That may sound racist but I’m definitely not going there.
It’s just that he sounds so ghetto. And he looks so ghetto. Argh!

I’m still hoping for your success, though.

  18. 19 aa.CAMEUN.aa September 3, 2008 at 5:10 pm

why his english, is good, its SCRIPTED!!!,but good part is HE DONT HAVE A KOREAN ACCENT!!!!

  19. 20 eh September 3, 2008 at 5:12 pm

Some people are not educated.. that’s not “ghetto.” lol sad stereotypes people get from that.

What about Big Mama (Korean group) – they have soulful voices – are they trying to be “black?”

Jero (Black American who’s 1/4 Japanese) sings Japanese enka (traditional music). Sure people were skeptical about him in Japan, but he gained a lot of success now.

Se7en’s style has always been R&B with hints of other genres, so it fits him. Must Listen visors were awesome.

    Whatever happens, happens though.

  20. 21 s123 September 3, 2008 at 5:30 pm

    he’s improving… keep it up!

  21. 22 Prefer the old Se7en September 3, 2008 at 6:09 pm

    Agree with Kas.

He just looks like a black-wannabe. I’d take the clean-cut, pretty boy look any day.

  22. 23 cutefloatie September 3, 2008 at 6:11 pm

    I LOVE SE7EN. I will def. buy his album. U are the best..go Se7en!!!!!!

  23. 24 sunsun September 3, 2008 at 6:17 pm

lol fans should know that se7en has always been influenced by black american culture even when he was in korea too – like someone mentioned his 2nd korean album era. se7en had to follow the japanese trend too with the fluttery hair. it’s business strategy, guys.

if you want cookie cutter kpop styles stick then just stick to the current kpop singers.

at least he doesn’t look like rain with ahjumma hair with questionable clothes..

  24. 25 nifer September 3, 2008 at 6:21 pm

    OMGSH I LOVE HIM

i hope when he travels to australia too :D

  25. 26 yomama September 3, 2008 at 8:06 pm

i honestly want this guy to do well. i mean, i’m not expecting him to be as big as justin timberlake or chris brown, but i want him to not fail.
    i wish him luck.

  26. 27 jip September 3, 2008 at 9:13 pm

    here’s news to break you fangirl’s hearts…

i heard he had a girlfriend. he was seen in knott’s berry farm holding hands with some chick.

    i’m not lying, that’s what i heard… don’t shoot the messenger.

  27. 28 Rei September 3, 2008 at 9:56 pm

We’ll cross the bridge when we get there…My support always belongs to Rain…

  32. 34 hero September 4, 2008 at 2:11 am

jip: lol so what? that doesn’t tell much anyway – it’s his life; no one should snoop around his business and spread it online. besides idiots on soompi spread rumors. you’re not doing any better.

good job, se7en. instead looking down on any artists, support them all if you can.

  33. 35 ... September 4, 2008 at 4:36 am

    i’m impressed with his english.

  34. 36 Ali September 4, 2008 at 4:37 am

    Very promising,
i just hope he is able to converse like that…not just memorised?
    his accent is niiice :)
much better than Rain’s english anyway.

hope hes ready for america. hes been away from korea for far too long….

  35. 37 mast@_nu September 4, 2008 at 6:17 am

    GO SE7EN!
    FROM BEGINING…UNTIL FOREVER! :)
Anyway….his english has gotten ALOT better! I’m anticipating this english album ~~~~~

[btw...why compare Rain & Se7en?? They are BOTH EQUALLY awesome BUT they are very different..................... only a true fan would know that.:P]

  36. 38 cindy--rox September 4, 2008 at 6:29 am

I love how everyone keeps comparing Rain and Se7en.
    It’s so funny cuz I hate Rain…
And this is the first time I’ve seen so many positive comments about Se7en at Popseoul.

  37. 39 quel regard September 4, 2008 at 7:45 am

I see true potential in se7en…I bet you it won’t take him long to make it big in America

  38. 40 Hihi September 4, 2008 at 8:42 am

I think it’s pretty cool when even PS knows when to give props. I think.. I gained some respect for you. ^^

Hopefully, you can get people to think critically instead of have just negative thoughts on celebs in future entries. You might have potential to turn a new leaf.

  39. 41 Caffeine September 4, 2008 at 11:16 am

    Go Se7en!

    His english is so good!

  40. 42 Mary3lucky September 4, 2008 at 11:26 am

I wish you all the best Seven,America is a freedom country!!
So,there’s nothing harm in trying, though they’ve got lots of strong potentials singers there, but Who knows? you might touch their hearts, for being you are different to anybody….

  41. 43 Jann September 4, 2008 at 11:56 am

  42. 44 Cass September 4, 2008 at 12:41 pm

Yeah1 i knew se7en can make it! woohoooo! Good Job!

  43. 45 Janelle September 4, 2008 at 2:25 pm

He’s the epitome of good music

  44. 46 caramelpuddingg September 4, 2008 at 3:23 pm

aww hes so cute when he talks english :)

  45. 47 rk September 4, 2008 at 6:09 pm

the only way he’ll gain national fame in the US is if he sings in enlgish. then again, he could make it if he gained support from the asian community. thank god his English is understandable even if its not perfect otherwise he’d be a laughing stock like Rain…who’s interview with comic con i couldn’t even finish watching. *going off topic* Rain could totally make it if he wasn’t so awkward while speakin english. anyway, rain or se7en, It would be nice to see an asian make it in the US.

  46. 48 CherryO September 5, 2008 at 9:26 am

His English is very good ……………..\Yeahh way to go 7EVEN

  47. 49 Meru September 5, 2008 at 11:11 am

lmsandra, those things means nothing if the person can’t communicate to the audience. Did Rain grew into a big Hollywood star after Speed Racer? I don’t think so, that movie was a failure. As for singing at the Olympics, did you see the American coverage for that? They didn’t even care to introduce him or comment on him, he looked just like all the other Chinese pop stars. Se7en didn’t choose to jump straight into the limelight because he’s building a solid foundation for his SINGING career, not a “whatever the heck” Rain is trying to be. In America it’s very hard to be good at acting and singing because they’re both huge industries unlike in Asia. It takes sometime to train and focus on one’s career when one outgrows the cookie cutter pop star training camps in Korea.

  48. 50 Amber September 5, 2008 at 1:11 pm

I LOVE THIS MAN!!! HE WILL BE LOVED IN THE US!!! TOTALLY! GO SE7EN GO!!!
