Another tragic loss.
Actor Ahn Jae-hwan was found dead in the back seat of a black van at 9am on September 8th. Husband to Jung Sun-hee, the 36 year old left behind a suicide note requesting that his body be donated if found right away. He also apologized to his parents for leaving first and left a few words for his wife stating that he loves her.
In May 2008, Ahn Jae-hwan was forced to stop production on a movie project, entitled, “Icing” due to a lack of funds and disgruntled employees. The actor also had other businesses (cosmetics line with his wife) that were not going well and was known to borrow money from friends and family. His sonbae told reporters that the actor needed half a million dollars of investment for his businesses to start running again.
Police do not suspect foul play and are still investigating the scene. Details from the van reveal that there were 2 empty bottles of soju and 2 charcoal blocks (for heating), one of which was burnt.
Ahn Jae-hwan and Jung Sun-hee were married in November 2007.
R.I.P.
Update: Ahn Jae-hwan was 4 million USD in debt. He died on August 22nd, but his remains were not discovered until September 8th. There is denial that the couple were having marital problems, but they were living separately.
Jung Sun-hee collapsed (below) and was sent to emergency upon hearing the news of her husband’s death.

Committing suicide is disobeying one of God’s 10 commandments Thou shall not kill – killing oneself is killing & therefore not acceptable to God. There are so many people who are in worst situations, but did not consider committing suicide because of their great faith in God. If you’re in big trouble, I’m sure there are ways to straighten up the situation. First sincerely ask God for His help & then ask some agencies like in the U.S.A. people go to a lawyer & file bankruptcy. Life is too short & so precious. I lost my sister last July & I felt so sad that she died so suddenly. She always love life, but it was cut short by sudden illness, no warning at all. Statistically Philippines is a poor country & yet their suicide rate is the lowest in the world. I believe because they have hopes & faith in God. They were born to a very strong religious belief. What happen to our soul after one commits suicide? Was the problem really solve? No, it creates more problem for one soul & for the people they left behind. I feel so sorry for his wife & may God help her.

i think you skipped the part where i mentioned i wasn’t censoring anyone’s opinions or trying to force mine on them. hence the reason why i did not pinpoint any one poster’s comments. i was addressing the negative overtones i was reading while expressing my views on how i would personally mourn the dead. Perhaps you are taking my comments personally since you chose to respond/defend the masses.
as you mentioned, his life was connected to some people, namely the celebrities who showed up to MOURN him. my disappointment were in those posters who were expressing disappointment in his decision as though they knew his thought process. i am actually not a supporter of suicide myself. but i am a supporter of respecting the dead regardless of how they reached their final state.
i have my opinion and you have yours. and that’s fine.
wtf is up with koreans commiting suicide?
it seems like its always korean doing that ish
i think popseoul need to stop putting this in the front! THAT IS SO EFFIN STUPID! you tryna make ppl argue in here so you can increase your blog’s popularity…now that’s wrong…the guy die now stop putting him on top of the page!

Apparently Korea has a problem with accepting depression and tend to shun people with any kind of mentality different from their own. tsk tsk..
I feel so bad for Jung Sun Hee and my condolences to her. She has been through it tough when it came to men. I remember in her first marriage she was battered by her husband and was strong enough to get a divorce. Now, she has to endure the pain of her second husband’s suicide death. Hope she is strong enough to cope and move on. She deserves a good life from now on since she’s a good person that makes people laugh with her comedic personality.
NCDM: Amen to that!
wow. arguments here on this post…
He made a stupid decision for leaving your loved ones.
He ran away from his problems. He didn’t face reality.
Rest in paradise.
^ He made a stupid decision for leaving his loved ones.**
I respect his decision [after all, everyone has a choice], but I definitely don’t agree with it. I’m just sad that such a brilliant man didn’t choose to try to work this out in another way [even though it may have seemed too difficult]. I hope his wife and family can move past the grief, and he can rest in peace. Let’s not try to judge him in his pain, but rather mourn the goodness that we have lost.
My opinion is not for him, but for the Korean public. South Korea has the highest suicide rate in the world. I’m just hoping that suicide could be prevented in the future. They should embrace the fact that people get depressed, but have the right to seek professional help & not criticized them for seeking that help.
NCDM: I totally agree with you on seeking help; but there are celebrities that still committed suicide, despite receiving help. For instance, Yooni (Female k-pop singer) and the female actress from the drama “Bool Sae” (Firebird) both committed suicide even after receiving help from their psychologist. I think Korea needs to pay attention to their citizens’ mental health well-being and develop programs that will lessen the country’s suicide rate and depression.
I have read alot the what was going on with this couple and reading alot of people calling him a coward did anyone ever think that maybe he did this to save his wife. If their marrigae was never registered then by law they are not married and that is the same here in the states, she should not be liable for anything. I would also like to say the fact that he was gone for so long with no contact most-likley means he thought about what he was doing 4million USD is alot of $. It is very very unfortunate that he had to leave this and for this reason. I hope people stop calling him a coward. When dealing with people who want to take their own lives it means that this is all that is left for them, it does not matter how much you talk to them, you can get Dr. Phill if a person really wants to end thier life they will. It is very sad thay money can ruin people and destroy their lives. I hope that he RIP and his wife comes out of this in good health.
I’m shocked to know that An jae-hwan is Sunhee’s husband.
Call me slow, but i don’t wanna know about this fact until i saw her on Jin-sil’s burial ceremony and the reporter mention she lost her husband recently.
I really adored her wit and happiness T^T
Hope she stay strong and not follow the footstep of her husband and best friend.
Sunhee unnie, fighting~!
You have a Murder and You Must Avenge this Victim
1. Why would someone trying to kill himself break out his own windows?
2. Why would someone trying to kill himself need plastic gloves?
3. why would someone trying to kill himself need to drink out of 2 bottles?
4. Why would he use a heated fireplace poker?
Isn’t a poker used to get someone to confess or tell them where something or someone is, this is a torture device isn’t it?
5.Why is the glass outside the window in a neat pile?
6. Why would the victim burn his own seat?
7. If the police do not investigate this, we know that they have a confederate in the police department.
8. Did anyone check the fingerprints on the inside of the gloves?
9. Did anyone check the DNA evidence at all?
9. Is his death going to go unavenged like Lee Eon, the kid from Coffee Prince, too?
Loan Sharks are all over the world. Still, this is too messy t be a mob hit. At least not a contract mob hit. It looks like someone tried hard to make it look like a break in with a violent ending.
Is this murder connected to Choi Jin Shil? Were these torture devices used to get him to write the suicide note? The clue is in the note. He asked someone to examine the body. If it is to be donated, it has to be examined.
If this is not followed through, then we know beyond the shadow of a doubt, that there were law enforcement officers involved in this case. Even if their involvement was only being paid off to cover up the crime. Good luck to anyone trying to solve this case honestly. You have mobsters and athletes somewhere in your midst.
I don’t sympathize with anyone that committed suicide. If you are going to do something as drastic as that why don’t you think of something equally motivating to begin with in life! ‘m sure there were lots of solutions he could come up with if he had talked it over with his wife or friends, but suicide? Come on, give me a break!
