Boa is ready to eat you up

How?

With her arm in a cast, Boa announced the release of her new song, “Eat you up” aimed squarely at the American market. At the press conference on September 10th announcing her entry into the U.S, the pint-sized singer expressed that she wants Lee Su-Man (president of SM Entertainment) by her side. Good thing, because the girl will need it.

Even though she has been preparing for the past 3 years for this moment, it’ll be very interesting to see if she can control the mind and menu of America’s taste in music.

The title song, “Eat you up,” was produced by Bloodshy and Avant who have also had a hand in producing music for Britney Spears, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez.

On the previous day, Boa injured her arms on the stairwell at the SM Entertainment office. Look how Lee Su-Man is giving his pride and joy some extra TLC. Hmmm. Sounds fishy. How did she “fall”? Perhaps a coincidence. Anyhow, the cast will be on for the next 6 weeks.

Boa’s new song, “Eat you up” will be released in digital format on October 7 and offline in the U.S. on November 11.

Check out the teaser MV for “Eat you up” (version 1). The song has a good dance beat, is sung in English, but there just something missing- it’s like she is trying too hard to be sexy (version 1). But sexy doesn’t come naturally to Boa- so what to do?

Wow, I actually like this song! Buuuuuuuut, I don’t know if the rest of America will :/ I think this song will get played on like MTV, and VH1 in the early hours of the morn. But I can’t see this song being in the top 10 or anything like that.

  4. 4 Noodle September 17, 2008 at 6:56 pm

The song is very…Korean.. Which can be good. Since she is going to introduce KPop to US. But the reception might not be as great as what Lee SooMan expects it to be.
As for the videos… Version two looks better.
I noticed.. there are only African-American dancers in version 1 and only Causasian-American/light skinned dancers (everyone else in the video too) in version 2. I’m not trying to play a race card. Just noticed.

It sounds like she used a vocoder during the vocal parts of the song…it sounds really synthesized

    @hyuyuyu-

The area where I live has a few main radio stations and the most listened to station allows requests of 11:00am – 12:00pm and at night from 8:00pm – 10:00pm. Then they do a mid-night special thing where it’s until one in the morning for music requests.

ORANGE LIPSTICK?!!! she’s really trying to be sexy but, you know, i think she only fits up to the image of ‘hot’ and ‘hip and cool’, not really ’sexy’. her dance is good but the mv doesn’t make her look like it. the american version looks SO LOW BUDGET while the korean version looks way better. that’s worrying.

furthermore BoA doesn’t have enough assets to compete against the american singers to be really sexy(which is used as a description for the more mature people). she honestly still looks like she’s still a teenager in her 17/18s due to her puny size.

i dislike lee soo man. he’s making use of BoA to do such things(‘EAT YOU UP’?!!) once she’s all grown up now. (psst… and how did BoA fall as to fracture her arm? nvm, this means nothing.)

    good luck, BoA.

song is catchy. i like the chandelier video. the other one, boa tries too hard to be “sexy.” This song reminds me of kylie minogue. and i love it. go BOA! and really, if she doesn’t make it big, it’s fine. but i think she’ll at least get through some crowds here in the US of A. :)

I like the Boa constrictor analogy someone mentioned. It then got rid of all the perversion my mind created.

And also I do agree her English is not the best, but it’s still English. And what someone mentioned, that she’s being Asian and herself. Totally agree with that.

  9. 9 KaNeaTieS September 21, 2008 at 8:46 pm

    lol…
I’ll just say that I have faith in Her haha…
I believe she can make it big! \V/

Anyway, she is not unfamiliar to many americans already and I believe She got quite a bit of fans in USA, so, No worries BoA jjang! ^ – ^

Oh ya… I think She did not fail to bring out her sexiness, just a new taste of sensual…
But, I still like the Korean style Vid 2 better haha~

    All the way BoA neichan!!!!

    Wweeee~

BoA at least has skills and sex appeal unlike many other female artists. She doesn’t have to try to be sexy, she’s already got it.

  11. 11 Fancythat September 22, 2008 at 6:14 am

^.. lmao sex appeal? I think not. She’s like fake jailbait.

  12. 12 mooshin93 September 22, 2008 at 10:13 am

mm..i really admire Boa as a really great artist n all but i dont have strong feelings about this song :/ this is just in my opinion but the whole song just sounds a bit corny n Boa’s voice is digitalized which makes it harder to hear her strong voice..the beat n choreography’s all good but i dont think this song should’ve been chosen for her debut.

  13. 13 mooshin93 September 22, 2008 at 10:16 am

oh n fyi to you guys:Boa tries hard to be sexy but…..it never really works out lol

  14. 14 hyuyuyu September 24, 2008 at 3:05 pm

    @Xenobia4
Let’s just hope they have the disc, then.

To me, she looks like a Velociraptor when she’s wearing the orange lipstick. I think it’s because her teeth are so… out there o.O

I wonder if we will see her on MTV and VH1… it can be pretty expensive, paying them to play your videos.

  15. 15 kb_ly1011 September 26, 2008 at 12:45 am

i like boa and proud of her,she is trying to bring a new style for us.

    BoA,you `ll never sing alone

    @Boa’sfanclub in viet nam:
    Wow… that’s kinda harsh

Heh, I wrote about her debut on my site, and it pissed someone off :p

  18. 18 SAE-BIN September 27, 2008 at 11:06 pm

hmm, not a boa fan but the choreography is good.

  19. 21 Eazy October 3, 2008 at 1:30 am

aaaah…I’m gonna say no…it’s nothing really out there like *ohwow!* I think BoA has the potential to sing so much better than in this song. Like when she really draws notes out it sounds so good (like in Tri-angle with DBSK and in TPL with Anyband). Also the MV is really awkward, sexy doesn’t go well. I only thought that if it was Lee Hyori in the vid it would have looked way better. The choreography is sick though. It really does feel like she’s trying too too hard. It’s like she’s trying to be Britney (this song does sound like sthg Britney would put out)

  20. 22 addie October 12, 2008 at 11:02 pm

The second is wayyy better, I like it alot!

I feel like SM could have made much more use of her vocal talents… The kind of song they chose as her debut single doesn’t showcase her voice much, which is a pity. BoA is obviously overstressed, and her eye bags are painful to see x.x

  21. 23 addie October 12, 2008 at 11:05 pm

And on a side note… Sexy so does not go down well x_x

The lyrics are SICK and I mean that in the most base way possible, not like “awesome”. “I wanna take you to my room, I’ll eat you up”?!

  22. 24 Jason October 16, 2008 at 5:30 pm

I LOVE IT!!! :) so damn hot!

  23. 25 Lee October 17, 2008 at 9:59 am

I want BoA to succeed in the West, but this video won’t do it.

    (1) The title of the song is tacky and sounds dirty.

    (2) Her strong and awkward Korean accent is distracting. Asian accents are not considered sexy (while European accents are).

    (3) The choreography and lyrics feel empty. There isn’t a feeling of a personality coming through. She feels too manufactured.

    (4) BoA needs to develop a personal style and a persona. In America, the individual is celebrated, and pure manufactured music does not succeed the way it does in Asia. Even Britney, who was manufactured, has a strong individual style and personality shining through.

What is BoA about? What does she stand for? What is her personality? For example, Madonna is about POWER, rebelling against religion, breaking free. Also, Madonna wrote her own songs, and they were very clever. This song is not clever at all.

  24. 26 ML October 17, 2008 at 10:10 am

I just listened to the whole track of “Eat You Up.” The lyrics really are PAINFUL.

This song sounds like it was penned by a middle school kid about oral sex.

If BoA wants to debut in the US, she needs a much more skilled and sophisticated song writer. Americans tend to almost care more about the lyrics than the melody, unlike Koreans.

Maybe she should hire a poet. The person doesn’t have to be a Bob Dillon or Cat Stevens. Even Madonna is pretty good.

  25. 27 Kerito October 19, 2008 at 3:08 am

I think she has the “it” factor its just that they announce it too suddenly and the preparations is too short… so I guess what I’m saying is it’s too early or it’s too sudden

  26. 28 sassy October 19, 2008 at 1:30 pm

why did they dress her up in such baggy clothes?
boa is so talented..why did they give her a song that makes her vocals sound like her voice hurts..poor girl!

  27. 29 byul October 21, 2008 at 2:30 pm

    boa ,,
    Don’t give up !
    TO TELL THE TRUTH ,
    I like YOUR SONG :-)

  28. 30 taeja October 23, 2008 at 9:44 am

The American version of Eat You Up sucks. And the song is annoying. Although it grew on me in the end, as do all annoying songs tend to do. Anyway, with the way the American version looks, BoA’s reputation in America is probably going to go nowhere. I love her, and she’s my idol and all, but honestly? No. She probably would do better if the Korean version was released in America. It’s fresh and nicely directed. And at least she didn’t dance in the middle of a freaking desert. Wtf is with that? It looks fake, and utterly stupid. She’s a pretty girl, but she looks extremely odd in the parts where she’s being all “sexy” in that unattractive-looking, black top. The dancing is nowhere near as good and energetic/attractive as the Korean version. So with the way this is going, I lost all hope that she’d actually be successful. BoA’s pretty, a good dancer, and sings well so she could prove me–us–wrong, but we’ll see. I mean, it took her a while to fit into the Japanese music industry, but she did it in the end. Just.. SM/Avex should do things like how they’d normally do things in her Korean and Japanese mvs. The American one was just a try-hard.

  29. 31 veoh veoh October 23, 2008 at 3:40 pm

    Well well well…

    lot of readings

just stop talking and listen that music

If you dont like it, just dont listen Period

  30. 32 yukari October 27, 2008 at 6:05 am

I thought she was absolutely amazing in both versions. Although many of you are correct that “sexy” isn’t her department, if she keeps to kickass cool dancing shes gonna make it big.
